Planning on making a permanent home for your Escort radar detector in your car, but want to keep the 12-volt outlet free for charging your portable electronics? This handy Direct Wire SmartCord from Escort lets you hardwire your compatible detector to your vehicle's dash-based fuse box so you can keep your 12-volt port unoccupied. The straight cord runs easily along your windshield or dash to keep your car's interior tidy.
Escort's convenient SmartPlug module features a mute button for when you want to keep things quiet, plus LED indicators for alerts and power. You can mount the plug near the steering wheel for easy operation and quick viewing, even if your detector's in dark mode. The Direct Wire SmartCord works with most current Escort windshield detectors.

Easy to install and works as advertised
This was everything I would expect out of Escort. Simple to follow instructions and very easy to install. Multiple mounting options keep it within reach but mostly out of sight.
Pros: Great instructions, multiple mounting options, typical Escort quality
Cons: The power cord for the radar detector could stand to be a little longer.
Just what I needed
The smartcord is a must have. Very simple to install and works great.
Great product. Keeps my dash clear and my Power Outlet free. No More wires over my CD Changer. I have a professional connect it for me. It took him less than 15 minutes to connect the wire and mount the Mute button.
Super easy to install, and this retains the mute and alert LED no matter where you place the Detector. Free's up the power outlet on my dash and no more cables to get in the way. If you are looking for a way to clean up your dash and get a more professional looking install, then pick up this Direct Wire SmartCord and you wont be disappointed. Crutchfield has superior customer service and quick shipping.
Pros: Easy to Install, cleans up dash, free's power outlets, allows to be installed in any location, easy to read instructions (if you need them)
install really easy directions was great. Shipping was fast and prompt
Pros: the directions were very complete the kit came with everything I needed.
Great product, easy for any car shop to install, clean finish, remote is really convenient too. No reason to use the cigarette lighter adaptor cord when this is such a cheap alternative
Great addition to the escort 9500ix, it nice to be able to remove the spiral cord and hide the wiring so I can have a clean install.
Pros: completely replaces spiral code
Cons: none, other then the time it takes to hard wire and run the wires
Nice unit. Easy to install. I only gave 4 stars because it uses a glass fuse instead of a mini blade. What is this? 1973?
Pros: Clean install, no wires dangling.
Cons: Glass fuse. I should have ordered the red one. The Blue power indicator is REALLY bright. Brighter than the alert indicator led.
easy to install, works grear
Pros: works great
I bought both my blue Passport 8500 X-50 and later on, this SmartCord from Crutchfield as well as a Nuvi GPS. Both were mounted high up by the rearview mirror. This keeps them almost totally out of view from potential thieves. It also gives a completely clear shot of front and back for the radar detector. The problem though, is two cords hanging down that I had tied together. It just looked sloppy to me. So I removed the the GPS cord as it seems to hold a charge forever. That cord I keep in the glovebox. Now I had a friend mount the SmartCord directly into the fusebox and he groud it near there too. It took him five minutes. The cord runs under the top lip of the windshield and behind the left column by the door. He used the supplied velcro to mount the tiny receiver on the dash all the way to the left of the sterring wheel. It is barely visable except to me. The blue and yellow lights are very bright and the mute button is easily accessible. The detector is dead reliable up to this point as is the GPS unit. Crutchfield as usual is great to deal with also. A very good buy.
Pros: See Above
Love it being hard wired into the vehicle. Off and on with the ignition. The mute button it where I can reach easily.
Compatibility: The SmartCord MuteDisplay works with special circuitry built into the Passport 9500ix, 9500i, 8500 X50, 8500, 7500S, 7500, 6800, Escort C65, and Solo S2.
Module: The SmartCord MuteDisplay's module includes a power-on indicator, a bright alert light (Red) that warns of radar or laser, and a mute button. The module can be mounted in any convenient location with the supplied hook & loop fastener.
Connections: The SmartCord MuteDisplay comes with a power/ground harness to hook directly to your car's electrical system, and a signal cable to route to your detector.

already have this with another escort radar. it makes using it so much easier when you don't have to reach up to windshield to mute radar, just mount on top of steering column with supplied sticky tape/Velcro and can be easily operated without taking eyes off road. [ perry Nov 17, 2017 ]

Chad, The cord will not likely reach to the bed of your truck. BUT, consider getting the power off of a switched source. In doing so the unit will be off when you turn the truck off and when you return and turn the key on, the escort returns to the state it was in when you powered down. I think a much better way to use the unit. [ Gary Apr 15, 2016 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You do not have to have a Smart Cord to be able to mute the system. The Passport Max 2 has an Auto Mute feature so it will automatically reduce the volume after the initial audile aler. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Mar 29, 2015 ] Staff
