STURDY and pretty easy to install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It arrived fast and I had it up a day later with a 46" Samsung LCD TV. The instructions are pretty good, especially if you've put together knock down/flat pack furniture before. Believe the other comments -- you'll need two strong people to hang the TV on the mount, and you must find the centers of two wood studs because the whole thing is very heavy. Once up, it moves easily and smoothly, like it weighs nothing. I really bought it for the 26" extension feature. When I'm done watching, I glide it back 2 feet to keep the TV well protected. Pulling it out 2 feet before firing up the system has impressed a couple of neighbors! Recommended.

... be prepared to improvise a bit during installation. Right from step 1, the machine screws included did not work with my new Sony Bravia XBR 40". The short screws were too short & the long ones too long, so off to the hardware store for screws. While I was there I picked up stainless lags (read the other reviews). Next, the allen wrench included with the hardware was the wrong size - very frustrating. Somewhere around step 6 I discovered the instructions were out of sequence, so I had to backtrack a bit. But once it's installed, the mount is like a tank & works very well. Hardware & instructions issues aside, I'd give it a 5/5.

If there's a chance you'll change your viewing position, consider this instead of a cheaper tilt only mount. My 83 year old mom can swivel it with a 52" Samsung LCD TV. The listing here is for 50" or less sets: Sanus now lists it up to 56". Install was very straightforward; you will need two adults and I'd plan for two hours. The instructions are very clear and all parts are included. Make very sure you've got the wall stud located and you're drilling into the center. If there's an outlet close the floor near the stud you'll be using, then be a wire is probably stapled to one side of the stud. Make a couple of extra passes with a stud finder (don't just bang on the wall and listen) to make sure you've got the stud located. I did replace the screws used to mount the brackets to the set. Sanus supplies two lengths of screws for every possible diameter for the set screw holes. For me, one seemed to barely enter the set screws while the other seemed to make contact with something inside the TV at the last turn. I bought a few screws of in-between lengths (totaled under $4) but same size diameter and threading (metric) as those that fit my set. They worked perfectly. You'll need two adults to: help place the wall brackets, lift the TV onto the mount, and steady the TV while you make the final adjustments. Both Sanus and Crutchfield have great sales and tech support.

Excellent Product!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a mechanical engineer, as so when the time came to choose a wall mount for my new Samsung 52" LCD TV, I took my time. I am very happy with the Sanus VMAA26. It is very well-designed and very well-built. The extent to which it makes it possible for me position my TV so as to make it convenient to watch from different locations is my home is very impressive. Considering what I paid for the television, multiple high-quality HDMI and audio cables, a Blu-Ray player, and installation costs, I am convinced that the money I spent for VMAA26 was money well spent.

Solid - few complaints

Dave from Nebraska City, NE on 3/7/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The product was solid and well built. Assembly was not difficult. A few minor gripes. While the loose parts were conveniently packaged in separate pouches sorted by the step in the assembly instructions, apparently the instructions changed at some point and no longer match the steps marked on the parts. Also, the Crutchfield web site says it is good up to a 52" set (which mine is), but the manufacturer's manual says it is only rated for up to a 50" set. The Crutchfield rep assured me that as long as the weight limits were not exceeded it would be fine. So far so good. I just recommend this discrepancy be reconciled to avoid future confusion.

[Editor's Note: While the manufacturers information only lists TV's up to 50", our research team has identified this will work with TV's up to 52".]

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This mount is very heavy-duty and well made. I used this to mount a 50" Panasonic plasma. The instructions are concise and detailed, and took about 20 minutes to do most of the assembly to attach to the back of the TV. One bit of advise - be careful not to over-torque the "wedges" that crimp onto the round horizontal bars since they're made of plastic and the hex bolts could pull through. The wall mount piece had plenty of slots for the lag bolts. I followed the instructions for drilling proper pilot holes and had no problems with the supplied lag bolts. Then just a matter of carefully lifting the TV (definitely two people recommended!) onto the wall mount and securing with three lock bolts on the bottom. The swivel and tilt works great - just what I needed!

Great mount!

Neal from Blacksburg, VA on 11/18/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing was easy to install, as long as you find the studs. With a decent studfinder, there is no problem. I did NOT use the lags that came with it, and instead bought 3" 3/8 inch lags w/ washers. I just think that in the case of a lot of weight, bigger lags are better. I love how adjustable this mount is. I have a 50" Plasma mounted to it, and once I got the TV itself on the mount, it was a snap to level and adjust placement.

Great Mount

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This mount works great and is really well designed. The 46' TV is so easy to adjust. Just what we were looking for. I bought stainless steel lag bolts to install it and used a stud finder and a thin nail to actually mark both sides of the stud and then drilling the pilot holes dead center, thus ensuring maximum grip for the lag screws.

Lag bolts

Donald from Ridgewood, NJ on 2/23/2008

Wall mount is very strong, and attached well to Sony 40" TV. I would rate this a 5, but had a poor experience with lag bolt. Head broke off in ratchet without significant torque. If you purchase, make sure to replace lag bolts.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Vincent from Central, California on 2/8/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this wall mount to hang a 42" LCD TV (Toshiba Regza) on my daughters bedroom wall. The time from beginning the assembly of the unit to hanging the TV on the wall was about 60 to 90 minutes. Really easy to use with very clear, easy to understand directions. If I can do it, anyone else can. I had no problem with the lag bolts supplied. I pretty much had a large blank wall to start with so this might be why it went up so easy. This unit is a very well built item. Nothing "Cheap" about this wall mount. The best thing about this wall mount was the ROLL feature. Even if you were off a little on the horizontal (Level) it could easily be adjusted after hanging the TV. The telescoping part of it made it super easy to to hook up your components. I had no problem with the frame blocking the component (HDMI) inputs comming out of the bottom of the TV. You really need 2 people for hanging the TV on the wall portion of the wall mount. A GREAT product from a Great Company (Crutchfield).

This mount could hold a 10 foot tv, it's that strong! It also has a great looking finish on it to. Mount comes with spacers for different shaped tv designs for a perfect fit. I also upgraded the Lag bolts to 5/16 x 3 inches for a extra hold to the wall. I'm very happy with this product.

Great Mount

Mike from Allentown, PA on 1/22/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this mount for free as a special when I purchased my 32 inch Samsung. I needed an extending, swivel mount. This is what was recommended, despite the small size of my Samsung. It is amazing. Very sturdy, and as someone else mentioned, I think my wall will fall down before the TV comes off! I have no hesitation. However, I will mention a potential serious problem that I was able to overcome. It had to do with the size of my LCD and this mount. Because the mount is really for larger TVs, the bottom stainless tube portion of the mount directly covers the place where the power cord plugs into the back of the TV. There was no way of avoiding this. Unfortunaely, I did not realize this before I hung it on the wall! After discussing the problem with Crutchfield's excellent tech support, we came to the conclusion that I had 2 choices. Crutchfield offered to have me send the mount back and get a different model or I could just cut off a piece of the tube with a hacksaw. I did the latter and it is fine. Still remains super stable.

I would by it again. Just be aware if you get a smaller TV.

Roger from Connecticut on 12/1/2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received this mount free with my TV, and it was worth it. I would not describe it as sheet metal as some do, more like plate metal. The mount is massive. I would worry about the wall collapsing before the mount breaks. I put it together in about an hour, and only needed help to get the TV on the wall. Simple design. I had no problem with the lag bolts as others did. Worth every penny I did not pay. It makes work on the back of the TV easy!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a bit concerned when I read the reviews about this wall mount. However, I did not have any problems straight out of the box. The wall mount screws worked perfectly and it is very easy to use and manipulate. I couldn't have asked for a better piece of equipment. If you have a 45-50" HDTV that you want to swivel on the wall, this is the mount for you.

Outstanding.......

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first word that came to my mind was WOW; I was very impressed with the quality and construction of this mount. The fit and finish of the assembly was flawless and believe it or not, all the parts were there. It is very clear that this mount was designed with strength, flexibility and adjustment in mind.
Strength: Everything part of this mount is made with heavy steel and all of the nuts used to assemble the mount are self locking nuts. The pivoting parts are already lubricated and assembled so there is virtually no prep work to do other than mounting the backing plate.
Flexibility: The length of extension from the wall allows for full pivoting of the panel to either the left or right, depending on of course the size of your panel. The panel can be pivoted to face up or down with limited range.
Adjustment: The back plate is heavy steel and was designed for lateral adjustment which is a hugh advantage if you're limited to a particular set of studs which was my situation. I did however take the advice from another reviewer that recommended replacing the lag bolts with tempered steel lag bolts. As long as you drill the 3/16 pilot holes in the studs you shouldn't need to buy the other bolts, I just did it just in case.
Great deal Crutchfield and great product.

Well worth the effort!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 46" Widescreen LCD looks fantastic on this mount. The mount is heavy duty and gives you tremendous flexibility in positioning the screen for viewing (especially if your studs and windows are off center, you can still get the TV centered between them, COOL!). I would buy it again if I had to do it all over again.

Now for bad news, the lag bolts that come with this mount are terrible. I followed the instructions to the letter, pre-drilling pilot holes and not overtightening but the darn bolt snapped off in the stud. I was able to fix the holes and reposition, this time using stainless lag bolts from a local hardware store. With the new bolts it went up without a problem. Buy new bolts before you install!

Don't let that deter you from buying this mount. This mount is worth it, just buy the stainless lag bolts and save yourself a major headache...

disappointing

Mark from Hawaii on 11/11/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This mount is very expensive, but with Crutchfields great deal of 50% of with a TV purchase I decided to go for it. We had just experienced a pretty big earthquake here that wrecked my 205 lb. 36" Toshiba CRT television. So I was up grading to a 42" Panasonic plasma and didn't want to take any chances. At first I was impressed with the mount, very heavy duty metal and sheet metal parts, but after mounting the tv bracket and the wall bracket I went to hang the tv and found that the tv bracket wouldn't fit properly on the wall bracket so I wasn't able to engage the locking screws behind the wall plate allowing the tv to possibly bounce off the wall bracket. With the help of a sledge hammer and wrenches and files I was able to persuade the brackets to fit, not the kind of thing most people would be willing to do,but I didn't want to wait for another shipment to Hawaii that might or might not fit while we're still having aftershocks. Other than that the mount seems to work very well.
