Excellent camera, not just for neophytes.

This is a great little camera, and not just for neophytes. I started with a Canon AE-1 Program in the late 80s, moved up to a Canon EOS 10s a few years later, then in the mid 2000s switched to digital and switched to Nikon with a D40. I loved the D40, and it did everything I needed, but after 14 years it started to have.... Issues. Enter the Nikon D3500. The main reason I chose it was I could still use my lenses from the D40, and it's low price. It has proven to be amazingly easy to use, like the D40, with the perk of 5 fps. I am no professional. I take photos only for myself... I don't use all the features, but all the features I do need are here and easily accessible. Very easy to learn, very easy to use, and it takes great photos.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to learn, lightweight, versatile.

Cons: Lacks options a professional would require.

No brainer for excellent shots at a low cost

This is a great little camera. I say little because I use a full frame Nikon D810 daily with a 70-200 f2.8, and the 3500 is minuscule in comparison. Despite the small size I can get 90% of what I'm used to getting with the big camera. And of course you can jump into much better lenses than the kit lens if you want to, to bridge the gap further. Overall, the kit is great, even for daytime indoor shots with no flash. Color rendering is natural and unsaturated, like other Nikons. For those who regularly shoot in S or A priority, you can wring out nice results with this with a bit more patience than needed with the full frame cousin cameras. Obviously there are smaller cameras that produce excellent photos, but they're pricey and a bit harder to control. This is a really nice compromise, and you're not compromising much no matter how you look at it.

Pros: Size, value, MUCH smaller than full frame SLR, better control and picture quality than most point 'n shoots

Cons: Bigger than a point 'n shoot, less capable than a full frame SLR
