Great lens for close up photos. Coupled with my Nikon D7100 this is a winner. Beautiful clarity, Colors are remarkably.

Pros: Quite when using auto-focus. Won't disturb insects and small reptiles when getting a close shots.

Cons: None so far.

Using on a D800E to replace an older 55mm Macro Nikkor - Couldn't be happier. Been a Nikon user forever and this lens continues my appreciation for Nikon quality, sharpness, and build. Very pleased with the purchase and got a great deal/fast shipping from Crutchfield

Pros: 1:1 mag ratio, light, sharp images, smooth operation

Cons: none

My favorite lens...

Short and sweet: Great all-purpose lens. Fantastic for portraits. Depth of field control with f2.8. It is built as a macro lens, and is fantastic for close-up photography (as long as the subject is not living) but you have to practically touch the subject for life size photos. Not good for insects, critters... (Get the 105mm macro if this is your shooting preference.) Overall a wonderful, fairly compact/lightweight lens that can handle just about any subject. Highly recommended!
