Slight Japanese Quality, but from China!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received it recently...but, Oh yes. Wow. Two disadvantages: the plastic lid does not stay open unless it is extended fully (approx.55degrees) and as mentioned by others, the Power Switch is located at the bottom portion of rear. My old Pioneeer PL-4 from 30 years ago had a "CUT" button for the user to retract the tonearm back to its resting post without lifting the plastic lid; a small omitted feature that could have added something more to needed convenience! Overall, it will probably not last half the 30+ years of my PL-4---which BTW is still operational. Be happy; buy Crutchfield!

Easy right out of the box.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very impressed with this unit. Replaces a 40+ year old turntable. The AT-LP5 makes every disc clearer, even seems to rejuvenate older, scratchier records. Very little if any noise. And looks great with my other black components!

Pros: Easy, clear and quiet.

Cons: None.

Great product

Great product and service from Crutchfield! The precise mechanical design is a delight. Suggest that a future product redesign includes moving the power switch to the front or top. Also, I'd prefer a slightly longer set of cables, or even the option of Bluetooth connectivity.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a beautiful, well-built and heavy unit with a minimalist design that is exactly what I had hoped from a performance standpoint (sounds terrific) and stylistically. It matches very nicely with my classic ADCOM GFA555 power amp and GFP565 preamp, with no unnecessary lights, displays, buttons or distraction. I agree with another reviewers comments that it could have more automation- i.e. auto return and auto start- but like that reviewer it was a conscious choice not to have these. The only design flaw is that the power button is tucked away in the back of the unit, so you need to plug it into a switched outlet on your preamp or receiver to power it off and on without fumbling around the back for the power button. The cord is grounded, so if you have a classic preamp like the GFP 565 that has ungrounded switched outlets in the back, you just need a plug adaptor to make the connection. It's an easy enough solution for a great turntable.

Pros: Built and sound quality, minimalist design

Cons: Power button in the back of the unit

Very Happy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this as a present for my husband. Not knowing anything about the new technology for turntables, I did do some research. This one consistently had good reviews (PS: there's always going to be one 'bad apple' in the barrel). We are extremely happy with the performance and audio out on this unit. Would recommend. We are not DJ's, but did want something simple, but with great sound. Thumbs Up!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great turntable. Very well built, very easy to set up, and it sounds fantastic. It would be nice if it had a few more automatic features, but that was a conscious choice I made and I am totally pleased with this turntable.

Pros: Heft & build quality. Fantastic motor isolation -- absolutely NO hum. Ease of set-up.

Cons: No automatic features. Power switch not conveniently positioned.

Features

Direct-Drive Turntable: The Audio-Technica AT-LP5 direct-drive turntable brings advanced technology and sleek, contemporary styling together for performance that looks as good as it sounds. Its precision-machined, die-cast aluminum platter is powered by a direct-drive, high-torque motor, ensuring stable, on-axis rotation at 33-1/3 or 45 RPM (adapter included). The platter is topped by a 5mm thick rubber damping mat that improves low-frequency reproduction.

J-Shaped Tonearm: Born of Audio-Technica's rich analog heritage, the AT-LP5 incorporates a J-shaped tonearm that takes its inspiration from the classic A-T models of the 1960s and 70s. The tonearm features a metallic gimbal suspension system and precision bearings to mitigate tracking errors, and includes an adjustable counterweight and anti-skate control.

Dual Moving Magnet Stereo Cartridge: The AT-LP5 comes outfitted with a lightweight (10g) AT-HS10 headshell and high-performance AT95EX Dual Moving Magnet stereo cartridge with an elliptical stylus, created specifically for this turntable. The headshell/cartridge/stylus assembly will need to be installed to the turntable's tonearm.

Anti-Vibration Construction: Constructed of anti-vibration damping materials with heavy-mass metal chassis inserts, the AT-LP5 turntable is a class leader in limiting low-frequency acoustical feedback. The anti-resonance feet are adjustable for leveling the turntable.

Switchable Preamp: The AT-LP5 features a built-in switchable phono/line preamp that enables it to be connected directly to a computer, home stereo, powered speakers, and other components that have no dedicated turntable input.

USB-B Output: The turntable is also equipped with a USB-B output and comes with a 6.5' USB cable for direct connection to your computer or laptop; plus comes with Window PC (XP-up) and Mac (OSX 10.4-up) compatible Audacity software that lets you convert your records to MP3, WAV, or other digital audio file formats (up to 16-bit 44.1/48kHz).

Stereo RCA Output: The AT-LP5 is outfitted with a set of stereo RCA outputs and includes a 40" stereo RCA cable to connect to your AV receiver, integrated amplifier, or powered speakers. Use the "GND" terminal to connect the grounding line of the RCA cables to the ground terminal of the amplifier.

Detachable Power Cord: The AT-LP5 includes a detachable 6' AC power cord (IEC 3-prong).

Hinged Dust Cover: The Audio-Technica AT-LP5 turntable comes with a hinged dust cover that is also removable.
