Reviving my old pioneer PL-530 turntable
Crutchfield customer from Port Royal, PA on 6/4/2020
I"vebeen using Audio-technica cartridges since 1976, and have been very pleased. This one did not let me down, it tracks at 1.5 grams and the sound is awesome. Glad to get back to listening to so good old vinyl.
Pros: Sound quality for a decent price
Cons: Can"t think of one

Crystal clear capability

Used primarily to replace its predecessor, the AT-120e. Very similar. The additional tracking force is not bad for your records... sometimes better. Chosen over others including a Shelter 201, Denon 103 and 301 (both MC) due to its excellent high frequency extension without peakiness. Bass is a little less than the others mentioned but I judiciously equalize my phono preamp to cut highs back while slightly boosting bass. Result is a simple MM cart that reproduces large orchestral classical music with far less ear fatigue and better violin separation. Crisp, forward sound that makes vinyl a fun medium. If you don't equalize a cartridge (most people don't) be aware of the VM530EN's shifting tonal range. Mine works well with jazz, rock and folk as I have it set up. Your speakers should determine your cartridge selection IMHO.
Pros: Clear sound, tracks well with nude diamond, inexpensive.
Cons: Depends on your speaker range. If you need heavy bass without adjustments, choose another.

i like it!

i had a sumiko black pearl that was perfectly fine, did a good job! but, i`m a tweaker and always looking to better things. i talked with marshall and we came up with the audio-technica VM530EN. well, i have to say it`s performed very well! tracks really well and the music sounds great. i listen to just about everything including jazz, pop, blues, country and some classical. the sound of the classical records is the most amazing of all. you can pick out the instruments even when they`re all playing at once. i`m satisfied, for now. bill
Pros: ease of mounting, tracks well and sounds great!
Cons: none
