Great sound and versatile mounting options

The Bravo 20 from Boston Acoustics doesn't just deliver high-performance sound — this compact, multi-purpose speaker also allows for a variety of wall-mounting options, even in tight spaces. It features a wedge-shaped cabinet, so you can position it vertically in a corner or horizontally near the ceiling or floor — brackets and hardware are included. All that placement flexibility means you can enjoy clean, warm sound just about anywhere in your home.

The Bravo 20 houses a 4-1/2" woofer for excellent midbass performance and a 1" aluminum dome tweeter, which delivers clear, crisp highs. A unique shallow air channel leading to the speaker's exterior port gives it a thinner profile while allowing it to breathe openly for deeper bass response. Pick up a pair of these speakers for smooth stereo sound, and team them up with a powered subwoofer for even more bass. Or you can use Bravo 20s as surround speakers in a home theater setup. They're voice-matched to all Boston Acoustics speakers.

Great sounding small speakers!!

Justin from Edgewood, NM on 10/14/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We just moved into a new house with a challenging living room regarding speaker placement (surrounds). I have been using the same Boston CR speakers that I bought around 2001 or so. Two towers, center and two bookshelf for surround in a 5.1 setup. I had always appreciated the sound of these and have cranked them as loud as I needed with various receivers thru the years, not one issue and they still sound great all these years later. With the new house came my desire to not have bulky bookshelf speakers hanging off the walls with brackets, with that said i decided to try the Bravo 20's. For the fun of it I placed them on my existing Boston towers and ran them solo as "fronts" along with the subwoofer. I even re-ran the Audyssey calibration on my Denon. It crossed them at 90 hz. which I thought was a little ambitious for such a small speaker but I left it alone. I cranked up various genres in 2.1 mode, and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of sound these little guys can put out. They were crystal clear and could not get them to distort even with volume at the -10 to 0 range. I can't wait to get them mounted and crank up some movies. I may even buy a second set and finally move up to 7.1!!! Love that I could get them in white which matches our ceiling and wall colors nicely.

Pros: Signature "Boston Sound", nice build quality, small and versatile.

Cons: Little pricey, but you get what you pay for as always.

Versatile speaker, Boston quality

Crutchfield customer from Fort Collins, CO on 8/24/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this to serve as a bigger center channel for a Boston Soundware 5.1 setup. I like that it has the traditional Boston Acoustics quality and matches the Soundware gear pretty well. It does the job of getting the center channel (dialog) out better than the little cubes that come with Soundware. The best thing about this one, however, is the excellent mounting versatility if you are in need of an on wall speaker. I chose to mount mine on a single gang low voltage outlet box and it works perfectly. But I'd imagine this speaker is most at home in a corner of a wall, and it includes all the hardware necessary to make that happen. If you want to setup an economical 5.1 arrangement you could easily do it with 5 of these and a sub for less than $1000, it would look great, and have the Boston Acoustics quality. But for me it does the job as a good center channel on wall speaker to augment what I already have.

Excellent speakers - using as surrounds. Very very pleased!

David from Cumming, GA on 5/13/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Using for surrounds in a 5.1 system. Ceiling mounted and aimed at listening position without an unsightly bracket. White color makes them look very professional. Sound quality is top notch, as is build quality. These were the perfect solution for my needs and I couldn't be happier with the quality, appearance and sound. Will likely buy another pair for my shop as I will be able to mount them in corners.

Pros: High build quality, excellent sound quality. Ability to mount on ceiling as surrounds and aim towards listening position without ugly brackets (fits flush to ceiling).

Cons: None when used as surrounds, cannot speak to use as mains as that is not how I have set them up.

Great Sounding Speaker

Michael from Nottingham, MD on 5/27/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased one of these in April to try as a surround speaker in my 5.1 setup. I really liked the sound and the mounting options. I purchased the second speaker in May, so I now have these as my rear surround speakers. They are mounted where the wall meets the ceiling which causes them to angle down towards the seating positions on the sofa. That works out perfectly for the room. Comes with all the mounting hardware. Only problem I ran into was with the toggle bolts. All of them. Both speakers. Couldn't get them started. I don't think the problem was with the actual screws, because I could get them to work with toggle bolts that I purchased at the local hardware store. Both speaker shipments had bad toggle bolts which I find somewhat strange.

Pros: mounting options and great sound

Cons: issue with toggle bolts

Great Sound and low profile

Jay from Jackson, TN on 3/5/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a speaker that could be mounted in a corner and not be real noticeable, this speaker worked great. Low profile without losing sound quality, painted to match wall and its footprint is invisible now

Pros: Small and fit in a corner nice, great sound from a compact speaker.

Cons: None yet

Very good sound

Drew from Lawrenceville, NJ on 12/31/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good quality sound for the price, which is particular nice since there are not many corner-mounted options available. The Bravo 20s blend in with most any room decor.

Perfect fit

GregB from Connecticut on 9/17/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Picked these speakers to match two other Boston Acoustics speakers that I already had to finish off my surround system. Placed them in the front right and left and they sound great. Awesome mounting flexibility. Good quality that I expect from Boston A.

Pros: sound and overall quality

Cons: None to date. Time will tell on durability, but I expect no problems from B. A.

Fine as secondary speakers

Charles R from Indiana on 9/7/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall these are nice secondary speakers that can be used as surround or height channels for Dolby Atmos installations. Their lack of bass should stop one from using them as main speakers such as a 2.0 wall installation. With my receiver Audyssey set the crossover at 110Hz (top height) and 150Hz (rear height).

Pros: Fairly high quality construction and they blend nicely with other Boston Acoustics speakers. Includes several mounting options.

Cons: Somewhat expensive due to their lack of a lower end.

The only speaker for the job...

Taken from Massachusetts on 4/17/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My new RV was lacking in the LR audio dept. and I didn't want to run speaker wires through the well insulated ceiling to mount 6.5 car speakers that are usually used with these rigs. So, I looked high and low for a wall mount or corner mount speaker. These have the hands down most secure mounting method of any on the market. This is important in an RV that has it's share of vibrations going down the road. Standard wall mounting speakers have a pivot point for adjusting angle which would inevitably come loose in an RV. These mounted rock solid where the wall meets the ceiling and I was able to route the speaker wire behind the crown molding to make a very clean install. Now, on to the sound. Since it was an RV I wanted a 12v head unit which are generally 4 ohms. The Sony receiver I paired with the Boston speakers had a built in 40 watt RMS amp which compensated for the power drop due to ohm mismatch. The end result was sound that rivals my high end home system. Just outstanding warm rich sound that blows away every person who hears the setup. Bottom line is I thought I was spending way too much money on these but really needed their amazing corner mounting system. After a couple of minutes of listening to my favorite tracks, I knew it was worth every penny...

Pros: Mounting system, sound, esthetics, quality.

Cons: Price... but worth it in the end...

OK for Surrounds

elo from United States on 2/26/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice bright clear sound. A bit light on the low end, but better than some small speaker that try and boost low freq at the expense of a muddy bass.

Pros: Very nice small size and easy to install the included mounting bracket. Great for surround use.

Cons: In A-B comparisons with other small speakers the low freq is weaker. Would not recommend these as main front speakers as there are much better ones at this price.

Excellent speakers!!!

Justin from Tarpon,Fl. on 10/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speaker are excellent in everyway. They fit on corners of walls, easy to install, and they sound excellent for surround sound. LOVE THEM!!!! I am currently running these with a Yamaha receiver. These are also great for Denon receivers as well

Pros: excellent sound, loud Great speakers!

Cons: Their is nothing I can say that is bad.

Boston Acoustics Bravo 20

GeorgeG from Arl.VA on 3/28/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice solid construction, the fit and finish if this speakers are top notch. I have then connected to a Yamaha Advantage AV RX-1010 receiver . Sound is crisp. "The Boston Sound" has highs, mids, and lows that all play in perfect balance..easy to hang good brackets for corner walls. I installed them as surround speakers in a home theater setup replacing older Boston Acoustics Micro90XII that I had for over 10 years. Really pleased with the purchase.

Pros: Solid sound, in a wide direction. Excellent midbass. Crisp highs Included brackets allows for a variety of wall-mounting options

Cons: Other than price I haven't found one yet

Driver Technology

Tweeter: The Bravo 20 uses Boston's 1" VR aluminum dome tweeter with AMD (Amplitude Modification Device). This tweeter uses a specially anodized aluminum dome. Compared to a soft dome, aluminum is equally light, yet more rigid. Compared to other hard dome materials, an aluminum dome is unrivaled in its ability to accurately track the input signal. AMD is used to further optimize the aluminum dome's output, without taking anything away. AMD is a patented acoustical tuning device that uses precisely sized hollow tubes positioned in front of the tweeter to refocus short wavelength energy and create an extremely smooth, flat response. This is done without using elaborate electronic components that can degrade the sound's purity.

Woofer: The Bravo 20 has a 4-1/2" copolymer woofer that's built from the ground up for this speaker. A rubber surround is used for added durability.

Bass Management: When setting bass management parameters on your home theater receiver, the outputs for this speaker should be set to Small.

Enclosure Design

ABS Cabinet: The Boston Acoustic Bravo 20's cabinet is made from textured ABS with a matching metal grill (detachable). The speaker is available in a black or white finish.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Bravo 20 employs a bass reflex (ported) enclosure with a front-firing port. The ported enclosure adds to the full sound of the speaker by increasing efficiency.

Binding Posts: The wire terminals are spring-posts, allowing you to connect the speaker wire using pin connectors or bare wire. Bare wire up to 12 gauge fits through the spring loaded posts. The binding post are color-coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).

Mounting Options

Wall Mounting Brackets: The Bravo 20 includes a wall mounting bracket which can be positioned vertically or horizontally. The body of the speaker is essentially one quarter of a cylinder so it can be mounted vertically, recessed into a corner, or horizontally at the junction of the wall and ceiling. The bracket can also be mounted perpendicular to the wall anywhere in the room. Mounting hardware is included. The large rectangular hole in the middle of the wall-bracket will fit a single gang electrical outlet to route the speaker wire through a conduit.

Tabletop Mounting: Included with the Bravo 20 are four self-adhesive rubber feet which allows the speaker to sit vertically on any flat surface (such as a table or shelf.) Also, included with the Bravo 20 is a rear bracket stand which allows the speaker to sit horizontally on a flat surface. When the rear bracket stand is removed, the Bravo 20 tilts up at a 45° angle (when placed horizontal).

6 questions already asked

Yes, this is what I did as I use them for the ceiling Atmos channels. I have tilted them towards the seating position and it works well. [ Guy  Jan 22, 2018 ]
They would work well anywhere along the edge of the ceiling and wall, mounted in a horizontal position. If you want them on the ceiling itself I would recommend a different Boston Acoustic speaker. [ Nico  Jan 22, 2018 ]
I have not tried them on the ceiling. But you should be able to because they come with screws (two for each) that make them convenient to mount. [ Muhammad  Jan 22, 2018 ]
Yes you can. Mine are not in the corner [ Joseph  Jan 22, 2018 ]
Each, being a single loudspeaker. [ E. Larry  Aug 17, 2015 ]
It is for a single speaker. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was off the grid [ Michael  Aug 17, 2015 ]
199 for each speaker. [ WILLIAM B  Aug 16, 2015 ]
The price is for one (1)....But they are worth every penny for their appearance, flexibility, and most important the sound. [ Carl  Aug 15, 2015 ]
$199.99 is for one speaker. $398.98 for two. Rather expensive and I purchased four (only) because they should timber match my other (7) Boston Acoustics speakers. Rather nicely made and I haven't used them enough to say how well they sound. Don't expect too much bass as my receiver crosses them at 110Hz. [ Charles  Aug 15, 2015 ]
A single speaker is $199. These have a 5 year warranty so that's what you are paying for. [ AGUSTIN  Aug 15, 2015 ]
That would be one not a pair. I found that out. Great speakers. [ Tom  Aug 15, 2015 ]
I would not recommend to use as a subwoofer. I use mine as the middle surround speakers on my 7.1 system. Subwoofers are made very well nowadays, and for the same price, you could find a more appropriate speaker to use a subwoofer depending on how much room you have to put one near your television. [ STEVEN  May 18, 2017 ]
I'm using 5 of these with Sub for our entire system. They are much above the level most of the super store bundles out there. [ James  May 17, 2017 ]
no I mount the flat to the wall without the brackets about ear level when I am sitting on the couch [ ROBERT  Dec 23, 2015 ]
i have two of these mounted horizonal on the wall behind my couch. Very easy install and sounds great. [ Ricky  Nov 04, 2015 ]
We have 8 of these speakers in our yoga studio. We have four each in booth a 1,000 and a 700 square foot room. They are mounted in the corners of the room and provide ample sound even when we have 30-50+ people taking yoga. The speakers are mounted on a flat wall and angled to the listener. I hope this helps! We have been nothing but happy with the speakers. [ PATRICIA F  Nov 03, 2015 ]
No, the supplied brackets do no allow for angled mounting. You would need to make some forty five degree spacers from mdf and then mount to those. [ WILLIAM B  Nov 03, 2015 ]
No. The brackets only allow for a flat placement. I don't know how big your room is, but I had the same situation and the speakers work very well being flat without having to be angled. [ Jim  Nov 03, 2015 ]
Hi Martin, I am using these speakers indoors but if you want to use them outdoors, I would make sure there is no exposure to elements. Crutchfield has excellent speakers designed for ourdoor use. I would highly recommenr the Infinity all weather speakers. Good luck. [ scott  Jun 19, 2015 ]
We put them in a protected area in the ceiling of an outdoor portal and they are great there. They are not exposed to the elements otherwise [ Kim  Jun 17, 2015 ]
Martin, Although my two pairs of these speakers are both indoors, as long as they're protected from the elements, I would think they'd be fine. I've been very pleased with their performance over the years. [ Jim  Jun 17, 2015 ]
No, they are designed for indoor use. [ SIMON  Jun 17, 2015 ]
The B A Bravo speaker is perfect for outside use. The design and many ways of installation make this speaker blend into any outside structure application. Most important is the sound that it produces. The Bravo speaker does an excellant job for its size an price point. [ Carl  Jun 17, 2015 ]
You can fit them outside but they weren't designed for it. The speakers are made of a polymer so they should resist humidity to some extent but you might void the warranty if they get soaked. [ AGUSTIN  Jun 17, 2015 ]
I bought 4 of these for rear satellites in a 7.1 indoor setup and they sound great. These are not advertised as outdoor speakers, so I wouldn't recommend using them outside. Buy outdoor speakers. [ Gary  Jun 17, 2015 ]
I don't believe they are outdoor rated [ Edward  Jun 17, 2015 ]
With these speakers it may be a little to flat, bright, in sound. I would just recommend it for a hometheater with a subwoofer. You may want to try Bose or Polk speakers. [ Justin  Jan 20, 2015 ]
With these speakers it may be a little to flat, bright, in sound. I would just recommend it for a hometheater with a subwoofer. You may want to try Bose or Polk speakers. [ Justin  Jan 20, 2015 ]
Casey, I've purchased two pairs of the Bravo speakers (the first pair about 8 years ago and the second pair more recently) and have been very pleased with these. Both pairs are used as part of a home theater setup and they're more than I need for the room (which is about 16' x 16'). Depending on how loud you play them, they should met your needs. I wish you well. [ Jim  Dec 29, 2014 ]
Yes these speakers would do very well as the only source in your setup. The low and highs are very clear and crisp and even without a sub woofer they fill the space nicely. [ SIMON  Dec 29, 2014 ]
Yes, we installed 5 in the family room next to the kitchen and they are great! Good choice. [ MARGARET A  Dec 29, 2014 ]
We use 8 of these in our yoga studio, The Freyja Project. We have two separate rooms for yoga that are 1,000 and 700 square feet respectively. With only four speakers, one in each corner, the rooms sound great! We would definitely recommend them. [ PATRICIA F  Dec 29, 2014 ]
Why are you not doing in wall speakers. These nose speakers are very big. [ Vincent  Dec 29, 2014 ]
I was using them as the only source of sound on my open floor plan in kitchen / dining / living room. I added a subwoofer for a richer quality sound. I hope this information helps. [ Kurt  Dec 29, 2014 ]
I have them in a family room about 15 feet by 20 feet; 9 foot ceiling. The sound is good - but I don't get the same bass response that I did when I had a system with a separate subwoofer with my previous speakers. Overall I've been happy. [ Edward  Dec 29, 2014 ]
