Overview: The Boston Acoustics P442 is sold as a single speaker, this allows you to use one as a center speaker, two as a pair of main or surround speakers, or a package of 3, 5, 6, or 7 in a multi-channel home theater system. The P442 is voice-matched to the other Boston Acoustics P4 series speakers. The P442 is sized to fit well along side TVs in the 42 inch range.

Enclosure: The cabinet is extruded aluminum resulting in a superb structural integrity that eliminates the spurious resonances and vibrations that degrade the sound of typical speakers.

Grilles: The package includes 2 aluminum grilles, one silver and one black, to match a variety of decors.

Tweeter: The P442 speaker uses Boston's 1" VRH.O. aluminum dome tweeter with AMD (Amplitude Modification Device). This high output tweeter uses a specially anodized aluminum dome. Compared to a soft dome, aluminum is equally light, yet more rigid. Compared to other hard dome materials, an aluminum dome is unrivaled in its ability to accurately track the input signal, in other words, when the voice coil says "jump," the aluminum dome does so, without changing shape. AMD is used to further optimize the aluminum dome's output, without taking anything away. AMD is a patented acoustical tuning device that uses precisely sized hollow tubes positioned in front of the tweeter to refocus short wavelength energy and create an extremely smooth, flat response. This is done without using elaborate electronic components that can degrade the sound's purity.

Midrange/Woofers: The P442 has a 4 1/2" midrange and two 4 1/2" woofers. The mid has a large 1 1/2" voice coil for superb driver control and extremely high power handling. The benefit of multiple 4 1/2" woofers is authoritative bass response, low distortion, and smooth uniform upper bass/lower midrange frequency response. Each woofer and the midrange is built from the ground up for the P4 series speakers and uses a rubber surround for added durability.

Video Shielded: This speaker includes MagnaGuard, Boston Acoustics' proprietary magnetic shielding technology. By reducing and containing the magnetic field naturally generated by a loudspeaker's magnet, MagnaGuard allows you to place the speaker near a TV or monitor without distorting the picture.

5-way Binding Posts: The wire terminals are 5-way binding posts, allowing you to connect the speaker wire using dual banana plugs, single banana plugs, spade connectors, pin connectors, or bare wire. Bare wire up to 10 gauge fits through the posts. Because of the way the speaker terminal is recessed into the cabinet, if spade connectors are used, they need to be angled.

Wall Mounting Brackets: The P442 is equipped with a metal wall-mounting bracket which can be positioned vertically or horizontally. Using the wall bracket adds about an inch to the depth of the speaker. The bracket has three mounting options to allow varied angles. When mounted vertically, the speaker can face perpendicular to the wall or it can be angled 15° left or right. When mounted horizontally the speaker can face perpendicular to the wall or it can be angled 15° up or down. Mounting hardware is included.

Bass Management: When setting bass management parameters on your home theater receiver, the outputs for this speaker should be set to Small.

Optional Stands: The P442 speaker can be placed on one of two optional stands, the table top stand (item number 065P4TS) or the floor stand (item number 065P4FL).

Dimension Note

Depth: The measured depth of the P442 is 3.938". The included bracket is necessary for wall mounting so the effective depth becomes 4.673".
