Starting at the top, the SL80 features a Type-S1 dome tweeter, constructed from a soft material that keeps the highs clean and smooth. The tweeter is mounted separately from the woofer, for precise stereo imaging.
For resolute reproduction of the lows, the woofer cone incorporates a special design that keeps the speaker running cool, minimizing distortion. A powerful but light neodymium magnet keeps the woofer's weight down — important if you're trying to shave ounces in a performance car.
The high-quality crossover mounted on the speaker ensures that the woofer and tweeter work together in perfect harmony — you'll enjoy impeccable sound from the highs through the lows. Grilles are not included. (Factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.)

Features
Overview: The Boston Acoustics SL80 speakers are 5 x 7 component plate speakers. They include a 5" round woofer and a 1" tweeter mounted side-by-side on a 5 x 7 oval plate. This design gives you the excellent imaging and performance of separate component speakers with the "drop-in" convenience of oval coaxial speakers.
Woofer: The SL80s are equipped with AMD copolymer woofers with butyl rubber surrounds. Each woofer is equipped with a neodymium magnet, which has a high power-to-weight ratio and a compact size about one-tenth the size of traditional iron-ferrite magnets. The dual-stage aluminum heat sink is integrated into the motor structure to draw heat away from the voice coil increasing the power handling capability.
Tweeter: Each speaker has a 1" Kortec soft-dome tweeter for a smooth high frequency response and linearity. Kortec is a specially engineered material with the rigidity of a composite dome and the smoothness and detailed response of cloth. The contoured SL tweeter planes delivers superior on- and off-axis tweeter response compared to traditional coaxial designs.
Crossover: Located behind the tweeter, the multi-element 2-way crossover delivers component level performance.
