About the Boston Acoustics SPG555-2
Deep bass from an unusual shape
Boston Acoustics' SPG555-2 subwoofer features an oval cone that will catch your eye, but its revolutionary features go far deeper than the shape. The "race track" design packs lots of punch the sub presents the surface area of a 12" subwoofer, yet it will fit into the space usually required by a 10" sub.
Big-time power without the weight
Extended cone excursion allows this sub to push lots of air, for bass that you can really feel. Yet, this potent woofer is built around a powerful neodymium magnet that reduces the overall weight to only 26 pounds, so you can load up on bass without loading down your car.
If you're a bass competitor, you'll appreciate Boston's unique Removable Voice Coil and Soft Part System assemblies, which allow you to quickly repair the defective parts of a blown sub. And, the SPG555-2 handles up to 1,000 watts RMS, so you can expect mind-bending performance whether it's mounted in a ported or sealed enclosure.
Customize your sub
Want to define your own look? You can disassemble the sub easily, then paint, chrome, or powder coat its exterior components to your heart's content. Whether you customize it or use it straight out of the box, the SPG555-2 will redefine bass performance in your vehicle.

Race Track Cone Design: The SPG555 incorporates a unique cone profile. The race track, or oval, design allows the SPG555 to fit where other woofers cannot, giving you the ability to install the SPG555 in an area that would normally limit you to using a 10-inch subwoofer. The area of the cone is larger than a standard 12" subwoofer. This greater cone area gives you greater output.
Neodymium Magnet: The SPG555 uses a powerful neodymium motor structure that is significantly lighter than ferrite motor structures, keeping the total weight of the SPG555 to only 26 lbs.
RVC (Removable Voice Coil): The SPG555 features a 3-1/2" Removable Voice Coil allowing you to either change the impedance of the subwoofer or repair a damaged voice coil without having to remove the SPG555 from its enclosure. By removing six screws, you can simply slide out the RVC and replace it with a new one. The item number for the 2-ohm coil is 065SPGVC2, and the 4-ohm coil's item number is 065SPGVC4.
SPS (Soft Part System): The SPG555 has a removable Soft Part System that contains the cone, surround, and spider built into one frame. In the event that the cone, surround, or spider becomes damaged, it is easily swapped out with a new one (item 065S555SPS).
Customizable: The SPG555 can be completely disassembled to allow customization. You can paint, powder-coat, or chrome the SPG555's basket and heatsink to customize the appearance of the SPG555 for a custom installation.
RadialVent Cooling: The RadialVent cooling design directs airflow around the 3.5" voice coil for increased power handling.
Terminals: The woofer has rugged spring post terminals that accept up to 8-gauge bare wire or pin connectors.
Long Excursion: The woofer has a 3-1/2" peak-to-peak excursion for accurate deep bass output from a small sealed enclosure.
Sealed Enclosure: The SPG555 woofer is optimized for use in a small sealed enclosure with a 1.0 cu. ft. internal volume.
Ported Enclosure: The woofer can also be used in one of the following ported enclosures:
- Sound Quality: 2.1 cu. ft. ported enclosure with a 22"L x 14"W x 1-1/4"H slot port opening, or two 3" diameter x 16" long ports, tuning frequency is 33 Hz
- High Output: 2.5 cu. ft. ported enclosure with a 19"L x 14"W x 1-3/4"H slot port opening, or two 3" diameter x 10" long ports, tuning frequency is 38 Hz
