Love your iPhone®?

Axxera's ACPM6628BT digital multimedia receiver gives you everything you love about your iPhone right in your dash. With onboard Apple CarPlay®, you can quickly navigate your phone's music, maps, and contacts using the receiver's big touchscreen and your voice. When you don't want to be tethered to the stereo, built-in Bluetooth® lets you wirelessly stream music from various apps on your smartphone and take hands-free calls.

Apple CarPlay®

CarPlay integrates your iPhone into the driving experience in a touchscreen interface, putting iPhone content at the driver's fingertips with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

The freedom of Bluetooth®

Bluetooth gives you wireless streaming for stored music, music apps, podcasts, and audiobooks. This receiver also lets you take and make calls while keeping your hands on the wheel. Axxera includes an external microphone to ensure the best call quality possible.

The look and the sound

The vibrant 6.2" touchscreen display makes navigating sources and apps a breeze, and with a connected backup camera (not included), you'll have a useful view for backing in and out of tight parking spots. Use the receiver's rear USB input to charge your phone and to access Apple CarPlay.

Tweak your sound with Axxera's 10-band equalizer, or jump through the seven EQ presets for quick tone changes. To get more impact out of your system, six preamp outputs let you connect amplifiers to power your speakers and subs.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

This digital multimedia receiver will not play CDs.

It looks and sounds great in my 2003 Silverado. I'm using it with an external amp for all speakers. My only complaint is that it will sometimes reset itself for no apparent reason and loses all my settings and presets.

Pros: Looks good with the dash illumination and sounds great

Cons: It resets itself at odd intervals and loses all my settings and presets

These Units fail!!!! This is the 2nd of this exact unit that has stopped working as soon as the car has been jumped. The second time being after my alternator was replaced at a shop.. No fuses were blown either time meaning there was no surging to the radio. Crutchfield is going to charge me a %10 restocking fee dispite the clearly faulty radio units I've received from them. If you buy this radio pull your fuses before jumping or you'll be stuck in silence!!

Really wanted this to work but after two months of hassles, I am returning my whole order. The unit won't even power up after less than 45 days. The $100 worth of PAC interfaces and ReadyHarness Sevice seemed great but never could get the steering wheel controls to work. Had three different Tech Support folks provide three different solutions none of which worked. Now the unit is dead, and I am done. When working, sound was just OK, my son preferred the factory head unit. (Ford Expedition 2007)

Pros: Good price point, decent features, Car Play is same as any other Car Play unit.

Cons: Unit failed after 45 days, wiring harness service looks great but could not get PAC controllers to work after multiple calls to tech support.

    Crutchfield response on 2/19/2019
We were sorry to hear about Dan's experience with Tech Support team. He contacted our Customer Support team and set up a return. Purchases from Crutchfield can be returned or exchanged within 60 days.

    2006 Nissan Frontier

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I purchased this unit for my '06 Nissan Frontier (Nismo). I received it in a timely manor , with the "ReadyHarness" and dash kit, it was as simple install. At first I had some trouble with the PAC wiring interface but one call to the help desk and was quickly remedied. As I began to use the unit I found it simple and straight forward in operation. I began to run into trouble at higher volume. As I increased the sound ( past the 25-30 on the dial ) all became distorted. When I say distorted I mean like if you had it playing loud and you hit the loudness button. I was not expecting this and tried to adjust the equalizer, sub woofer, and surround sound. Nothing seemed to work so I called the help desk. They were very pleasant and knowledgeable he explained to me that the units sub woofer buttons would not work with factory subs. He suggested I try adjusting the EQ and possibly disconnected the sub. I then did disconnect the sub and readjusted the EQ. The distortion was still there just not as much bass. I do not want to give this unit a bad review nor do I think its a bad product. I give it three stars because I do not feel it's a good fit for my Nissan. The help desk was very attentive and knowledgeable.

Pros: Easy to use and works great with Carplay

Cons: The volume button too small

This radio completely broke not even a year after it was put in. It was a hassle to put in and didn't even come with what I needed to set up steering wheel controls. The only solution was for them to send a new radio which is again going to be a hassle to put in and could potentially break again. Very unhappy with this product.

Purchased for my 96 GMC work truck. So far so good. The radio was a bundle that included a back up camera and installation for the most part was pretty simple other than the contradicting instructions for the camera install. The install kit and wiring harness fit perfect. Yes it does have some features that I am not fond of but for the price of a Bluetooth radio that also supports Apple car play and a screen for a back up camera, I can live with it.

Pros: Clear camera, user friendly, great sound

Cons: Not able to switch from Bluetooth to phone without disconnecting call unless you disable Bluetooth during call first. When back up camera comes on, the sound from radio is disabled.

This unit sucks. It cuts the music when the reverse cam is activated and it doesn't remember the last audio source used and defaults to the radio. This is super annoying because I'm greeted by loud radio static every time I start my car. There aren't any options to change default source. The remote that came with the unit is a joke. It's really only good for adjusting volume. If I had to do it all over again, I would opt for an in-dash GPS unit. Do not buy this. I would return this if I was still in the return period. RUN AWAY!

    Pros: Looks good

Cons: Cuts music when reverse cam is activated Always defaults to radio when powered up General lack of features

Was easy to install even with required add-on for my HHR. Easy to use and understand layout. Having AUX cable set up for friends and other to connect their devices, bluetooth was easy to set up. Having multiple devices connected is simple as long as each is a different source (Bluetooth, Aux, Apple Car Play).

Pros: Set up and connection was easy, Having multiple devices connected at one time makes it easy to switch between my device and friends.

Trash. Started out good for a few weeks but as soon the volume goes above 26 the apple compatibility shuts off and radio freezes. Waste of time and money do not recommend this radio

    Pros: Apple car play

Cons: Any bass, volume, or anything above 26 causes it to pause, skip two songs forward, and freezes.

Giving this one 2 stars as it has malfunctioned twice in less than a week. 1. The unit just does not boot always. When it does fail, you get a blank screen but, blue lights are on indicating that is does have power and accessory. When this does happen, you must get a toothpick and push and hold the reset for about 10 seconds. After that, you can press the power and begin settings again. This has happened twice in the whopping week that the unit has been installed. 2. The unit has failed to recognize an Apple Iphone a number of times. Multiple cables have been used. It just appears to be a random glitch. Due to these 2 problems, I am fairly disappointed with the purchase. My goal was to get a unit with a volume knob that was Apple Carplay compatible. Had I known this unit had "hit or miss" software, I would have spent a bit more for a better brand. If the unit did not have glitchy software, it actually sounds pretty good.

    Pros: Sounds good

Cons: Locked up with black screen 2 times in a week

It looks great to me. It was a very easy install in my 2006 Honda Accord LX. I took the time to tie the hook up together with the easy to read diagram. Also the wires were labeled properly, so it was easy to connect my speakers, ground wire, and power wire. I should've ordered an antenna cable extension with it so I could've hooked up my radio right away. I did connect it to the system before installation to see if it worked and it worked great as well. I will be ordering a cable extension from Crutchfield to hook my radio up. The microphone provided for hands free communication is great. It picks up my voice well.

For the price, considering I really just needed an interface for CarPlay, I feel like this receiver was a great value. The accessories Crutchfield sells really helped make the installation very easy (there's no way I could have known what to do on my own). As others have mentioned the screen is extremely reflective and washes out in direct sunlight, but it hasn't been enough of an issue that I couldn't see what I was looking out. I don't know if it's also a placebo, but music sounds much better in my car now instead of using the stock receiver.

Pros: CarPlay, sounds better than stock Corolla receiver, easy installation.

Cons: Screen quality could be better.

Good Unit But One Big Issue

Unit was a nice upgrade from the stock stereo. This was for my son's truck and he only needed the CarPlay and Bluetooth for cell phone. Wiring was straightforward and a backup camera was added as another nice feature. Everything worked except the steering wheel controls never worked correctly with the PAC RP4.2-TY11 interface. That is advice to anyone looking to install this into a Toyota that wants to retain their steering wheel controls. Crutchfield did work with me and replaced the PAC unit once, when that did not work they replaced this unit with a Jensen VX5228 unit. That unit was truly plug and play.

Pros: Great upgrade over stock stereo. CarPlay worked very well.

Cons: Will not work steering wheel controls in Toyota with PAC4.2-TY11 interface.

All I'm looking for is CarPlay. So I installed this unit in my old beater truck a 2003 Chevy S10. I'm not looking to invest much more in this vehicle than its actual value. First off the Crutchfield Receiver Installation instructions specified that a bracket would need to be hacksawed off. This is not the case. The unit seems to work ok except that the maps are very washed out. So much so that they aren't useful. The second issue came up when I called tech support and the tech complained that he couldn't hear me. Evidently the microphone performs poorly. Very poorly.

    Pros: Other functions ok

Cons: Washed out maps - Very poor microphone

Pros - It works great. Everything is as expected, no glitches found so far - Touch screen is capacitive means you don't have to use your nail or press hard but it will also not work with gloves in a cold weather (same as a smartphone) - Bluetooth correctly recognizes 2 devices (I didn't try more) and quickly switch between these. This was a concern with my Ford Touch sync and another 3rd party stereo. They always lag a lot and sometimes do not connect the phone. It is not about this unit Cons - This one is so significant for me that I decided to give this stereo 3 out of 5. It is a screen. It is literally unusable in a sunny weather no matter where sun is from - you will not see anything on the screen even with 100% brightness. At the same time night dim is too dark so when you turn on your headlights in dusk you end up not seeing anything on a screen again even with no sun. The only comfortable time you see the screen is at night. I bought a anti-glare screen protector and will probably update this review after driving with it. If this will help - it is a small price to pay for a great stereo overall - Menu screen button that navigates you back to the main menu is kind of small so as FM station selections. It is easy to miss these

This thing is embarrassing to have in my truck and the only reason I haven't removed it is the hassle of reinstalling my stock radio and returning it. It's 2018. There is zero reason for a piece of technology to have such an ugly and non-user-friendly interface. It's clearly based off of a Linux base; let the user configure the icons to replace the ones that came from some third-rate clip art bin. Not only that, but it glitches and crashes while doing basic tasks. It doesn't load album art from your phone, it can't keep the clock properly set, and when I went to research how to update the software/firmware (something that would be trivial with its USB connectivity), the manufacturer doesn't provide ongoing software updates. The almost saving grace of this unit is Apple CarPlay, because at least I can pull that up while my phone is hardwired in so that there's a screen showing that doesn't embarrass me in front of my passengers. This stereo represents why technically inclined people think custom car stereos are unappealing. They are cheap, they don't work well, and just aren't worth the money. This is the last time I buy aftermarket components for my truck until units are released with software at least on par with an old smartphone.

    Pros: CarPlay isn't ugly

    Cons: Software is awful.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

6.2" LCD Touchscreen: The Axxera ACPM6628BT features a 6.2" LCD touchscreen monitor (800x480) with LED backlighting. This unit's touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics make menu navigation simple and intuitive. The screen's brightness is adjustable.

Note: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the pink wire of the included harness must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. Apple CarPlay works without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the 6.2" LCD touchscreen, the unit also has push-button controls and a 3-way rotary dial on the front-panel along the left edge of the screen.

Date & Time: The receiver allows you to set the Date (day/month/year) and Time (hour/minute/format). The Time is visible on each menu and source screen. The Date has to be accessed through the menu.

Remote Control: The Axxera ACPM6628BT comes with an IR remote and supports many vehicle's steering wheel controls (adapter required).

    • IR Remote Control: The ACPM6628BT comes supplied with an IR remote control which provides wireless operation of the digital media receiver; including Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming functions, as well as Siri when using CarPlay.
    • Optional Steering Wheel Control Interface: The unit features a SWC (steering wheel control) input and is compatible with a PAC or Maestro steering wheel control interface adapter (sold separately - see accessory tab), so you can keep your vehicle's factory steering wheel controls.

    iPhone & CarPlay Compatible

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the Axxera ACPM6628BT's rear-panel USB port. Apple CarPlay launches immediately upon connecting your iPhone to the receiver via USB. A familiar user interface will appear on the receiver's touchscreen including the home button to activate Siri voice control. Use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mail, send/receive messages and select music in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Maps: Apple Maps will be mirrored on the receiver's touchscreen, including traffic information and estimated time to destination. Use Siri or the receiver's touchscreen controls to request turn-by-turn directions, and search by address or by points-of-interests (POIs). If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze (coming soon), you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have there own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone & Messages: Use Siri or the receiver's touchscreen controls to make calls, return missed call, listen to voicemail messages, and answer calls with caller ID notification. You can also ask Siri to send, read, and reply to text messages. This hands-free operation minimizes distraction and allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
    • Music & Apps: Access your iPhone's music by artist , song, playlist, and more through the receiver's touchscreen control or via Siri. The receiver will mirror the iPhone screw with artist and track information, including album art. Apple CarPlay also supports audio form select music and podcasting apps - including Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Audiobooks.com, Audible, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, & OverCast.

    Notes:

    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If the included USB extension cable is not long enough, you can replace it with the PAC 6' USB extension cable (541USBDMA6, sold separately) or a 6' Apple Certified Lightning-to-USB cable (see accessories tab). Any cable longer than 6' could cause CarPlay to not function properly. The included USB extension cannot be used in conjunction with the PAC USB extension cable (you can use one or the other).
    • Apple CarPlay works without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.

iPod/iPhone USB Direct: In addition to CarPlay, the Axxera ACPM6628BT supports direct connection of select Apple iPods and iPhones with a Lightning or 30-pin connector through its rear-panel USB port for audio playback, control, song/artist/album display, and charging of your Apple device. The touchscreen of the Apple iPhone & iPod touch will remain unlocked during USB connection, so you can also access music apps from the mobile device; the click-wheel of the iPod nano and classic will lock during USB connection.

    • Control: You can use the ACPM6628BT's touchscreen to browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Composer. You can also control playback functions such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat from the receiver's touchscreen.
    • Display: The Axxera ACPM6628BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information from stored music and select music apps. The head unit will display elapsed playing time, artist name, song/album title, as well as album art.
    • Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

iPod/iPhone Compatibility Chart: The Axxera ACPM6628BT is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and support the following iPod/iPhone model features 1/25/2018):

    Bluetooth & USB Integration

Bluetooth Technology: The Axxera ACPM6628BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles - HFP (Hands Free Profile),  A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile), & SSP (Simple Securing Pairing).

    • Hands-Free Communication (HFP): The ACPM6628BT supports wireless hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The ACPM6628BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the include external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your car audio speakers will mute automatically during a call. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.
      • Answering A Call: The ACPM6628BT allows you to answer a call from the head unit's touchscreen monitor or set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call. Incoming phone call information will be displayed on the unit's LCD monitor, while a ring-tone is heard through your front speakers.
      • Making A Call: You can make a call from the ACPM6628BT using the unit's on-screen keypad (0-9), your phone's downloaded phonebook (contacts), or recent calls (dialed/received/missed).
    • Wireless Audio Streaming (A2DP/AVRCP): The Axxera ACPM6628BT also allows you to play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or personal music player using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track, from the ACPM6628BT's touchscreen. This unit will also display song/artist information on its touchscreen monitor.
    • Simple Secure Pairing (SSP): Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the ACPM6628BT. The unit features SSP (Simple Secure Pairing), so you can pair and connect your device without entering a pin-code. You can only pair and connect one device at a time. The unit will auto reconnect with an already paired device.

Notes: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some mobile devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the ACPM6628BT.

USB Port: The Axxera ACPM6628BT features a USB (type-A) 2.0 port attached to the rear-chassis via a 4" pigtail and comes with a 18" USB extension cable. The USB port supports connection of a USB mass storage class device, such as a USB thumbdrive or portable digital audio player. The unit will playback of MP3 music files and JPEG photo files stored on a compatible USB MSC device (up to 64GB). USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (max. 1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On. You will most likely need a longer USB extension cable (sold separately - see accessories tab) to access the receiver's USB port.

    • Control: The ACPM6628BT offers a variety of playback & search functions, so you can find and enjoy your music in the car. Playback & Search functions include File/Folder Search, Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, & Random/Repeat.
    • Song/Artist Information: During playback, the unit's touchscreen monitor will display song, artist, and album information (including album art) - when available.
Note: The unit's USB port is not compatible with Android smartphones or tablets.

    Audio & Tuner Section

CTA-2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the ACPM6628BT are compliant with the CTA-2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. This feature can be turned On or Off.

Programmable Turn-On Volume: You can set what volume the receiver turns on with each time. The volume range is 0-35.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation (this can be turned On or Off).

AM/FM Tuner: The Axxera ACPM6628BT features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, & preset tuning. The built-in AM/FM tuner allows you to store up to 18 FM station presets and 12 AM station presets (for a total of 30 presets). You can tune your presets manually or have the head unit do it automatically. The Local function allows only strong radio stations to be received, blocking stations with weaker signals.

    AV Connectivity

Aux Input: The Axxera ACPM6628BT is equipped with a rear-panel Aux input which consists of female stereo RCA jacks for connecting an external audio source.

Rear-View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional back-up camera (sold separately). This RCA input enables you to connect a rear-view camera to display the area behind your vehicle. This increased visibility encourages and facilitates safer driving. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (orange wire of the harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.0 seconds.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

I'd suggest you ask one of the sales representatives if you could wire in a crossover or similar to do so. My guess would be that you could run output through an appropriate amplifier regardless.

What is the purpose of the female USB coming out the back of the head unit? Do you have to use it?

Your unit should've come with a USB extender, and you can use it to relocate the USB port to a more accessible location. In terms of what it's used for, a USB connection is the only way apple car play will work. If you don't have an iPhone, then this will not matter
    [ Isaac  Apr 13, 2019 ]

You can use it to plug in a phone for audio and the apple car play.
    [ Kyle  Apr 12, 2019 ]

thats the usb input used for an ipod, or memory stick, or what have you. You don't have to use it.

That's so you can run lightning cable for your iPhone for apple play. You don't have to use it if you're not looking for that feature

Yes it does . I have mine with rear camera connected
    [ Ernesto  Feb 06, 2019 ]
    A
Absolutely! And when I purchased mine, it was bundled WITH a rear camera. Two notes about this functionality: 1 - running the wires from head unit to your rear deck/lid, etc. is probably the hardest part of the installation. 2 - the radio/music will mute when you shift into Reverse using this device (which I personally don't mind if it allows better concentration on the camera.)
    [ Stephen  Feb 06, 2019 ]

    It does support rear cameras.

Crutchfield said this would fit in my 2007 Tacoma but it didn't come/recommend the proper cables to set it up Correctly with Carplay. I need to know if there are instructions to add a USB outlet from the back of the unit to the cigarette lighter? I already purchased a USB port that can be mounted into the the cigarette lighter but I'm not sure how to remove it from the console.
    [ Jeffrey  Jan 30, 2019 ]

    A
It would simply be a matter of running a USB Cable from the back of your adapter to the head unit. As far as removing your cigarette lighter, I don't have a clue but if you check You Tube there are bound to be videos outlining the procedure. If not Crutchfield will know.
    [ Michael  Feb 04, 2019 ]

This unit has a female usb wire coming off the back of it. It is approximately 2"-3" long. You supply a usb-lighting cord. Connect that to your phone and CarPlay shows up. Works great too.

I have a Kia Soul with built-in hands-free calling using the controls on the steering wheel. Will this unit work with those features?
    [ Tech  Jul 02, 2018 ]

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Can you have multiple phones on the Bluetooth at once?
    [ Pickle  Jun 13, 2018 ]

You can pair multiple devices to it, But like most radios only one device can be connected to play music off of at a time.
    [ Jason  Jun 16, 2018 ]
    A
No just one phone at a time
    [ Joseph  Jun 15, 2018 ]

Great question for which I don't currently have an answer, but can try to attempt it and see whether you can. My assumption is NO, considering you run the risk of multiple callers/access that would be a bit, shall we say, unfruitful for functionality. Imagine two calls coming in simultaneously... how would that work?
    [ Stephen  Jun 15, 2018 ]
    Q
Will I be able to listen to the radio with this or will it just be music from my phone? Also will I be able to program stations on here if I do have access to the radio?

    A
You will absolutely be able to listen to the radio. Make sure you get the antenna adapter
    [ Joe  Mar 01, 2018 ]
    A
Yes it will play AM/FM radio and you also can program your favorite stations. Here's a link to a review of basically the same receiver rebranded. https://youtu.be/aH7ldCTcOS8 So far I'm very happy with my purchase from Crutchfield. They have been great to do business with.
