About the Dual MMC36BT
A space-saving stereo with app control
A space-saving stereo with app control
If you don't have a lot of space but do need a lot of stereo, Dual's MMC36BT marine digital media center will bring great sound and versatile functionality to your boat. This NMEA 2000-ready package consists of a compact color LCD controller that goes in the dash, along with a hideaway "black box" that can be installed out of sight. You can also control the stereo using Dual's iPlug Smart Remote app on your Apple® or Android® smartphone.
The heart of this system is the hideaway "black box" receiver.
The heart of it all is a hideaway box
The hideaway box contains a built-in global AM/FM/Weather Band tuner, plus an AUX input and a charging USB port. Built-in Bluetooth lets you stream music from just about any phone, and you can also plug in a USB thumb drive and enjoy your own music files. The compact box is easy to mount and the whole system can be integrated into your boat's NMEA 2000 system. The receiver is made for marine use, with a conformal-coated circuit board and an overall IPX5 rating for water-resistance.
Watertight wired controller
With the "black box" installed down below, you control everything from the IPX6-rated watertight wired controller installed topside. The 3” TFT color LCD screen and intuitive control buttons make it easy to switch sources or change the tune. The controller is engineered to stand up to the extremes of a marine environment, so splashes, spray, and sunlight won't stop the music.
Start your system here
With three sets of preamp outputs (including sub outputs), the MMC36BT is a terrific building block for an epic marine audio system. The built-in 8-channel amp sends 18 watts RMS per channel to three different zones, while the 3-zone speaker selector (with separate subwoofer control) lets you adjust the sound all over the vessel. That's a handy thing to have on any size boat, as is the ability to connect a rear-view camera to an RCA input. And the zero-current draw memory back-up will preserve your boat's battery when you're not around.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Marine Certified: The Dual MMC36BT Marine Media Control Center is specifically designed and built to last in harsh marine environments and is ASTM B117 and ASTM D4329 compliant.
- IP66 Waterproof: Designed to meet IP66 waterproof standards, the wired media controller will not fail or allow water seepage when exposed to heavy splashing or rain. The hide-away source/amp unit is only IPX5 certified and can withstand small amounts of water spray.
- Conformal Coating: A transparent protective film is applied to surfaces of all interior printed circuit boards. This additional layer of defense guards against dust, condensation, and corrosion; ensuring maximum longevity in demanding marine installations.
- UV Resistant Construction: The faceplate and other exposed elements of the receiver are carefully injection-molded using high-temperature ultra-violet resistant resins, preventing them from breaking down in the sun and give you peace of mind to enjoy your music on the water.
Hide-Away Source/Amp Unit: The Dual MMC36BT's hide-away source/amp unit houses all the system's inputs, outputs, built-in tuner, and amplifier. This unit should be mounted in a location that is not exposed directly to extreme temperatures or conditions. Extended exposure to high temperatures or direct submersion will cause failure. Because of the built-in amplifier, the unit must be mounted in a location with adequate ventilation.
Note: The hide-away source/amp unit measures 9.1875" (w) x 2.625" (h) x 7.0" (d)
Wired Media Controller: The included wired media controller provides full operation over the system. It connects to the hide-away source/amp unit using the included 10' proprietary DIN-cable. The media controller features a vibrant positive-type 3" LCD screen that provides enhanced visibility under the toughest boating environments. High-contrast black characters on a white background ensure readability in any situation from total darkness to direct sunlight. View menus, audio, source, and song/artist/album information (no album art). You can manually adjust the LCD's backlight level (1-7). The wired media controller also features a rotary knob and 14 push-buttons. The controller requires a rectangular cutout and is held in place by the included mounting bracket and hardware.

Use the weather band tuner to stay one step ahead of storms while out on the water.
MOSFET Amplifier: The Dual Marine Media Control Center is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the system are as follows:
- CTA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
- Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for this system are compliant with the CTA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.
4V/6Ch Pre-Outs: The Dual MMC36BT is outfitted with three pair of 4V pre-outs for Front, Rear, and Sub. The Front & Rear pre-outs are fading, while the Sub pre-outs are non-fading. The subwoofer pre-outs offer a variable low-pass crossover (80/120/160Hz) and adjustable volume level (0-12).
3 Zones: Because the Marine Media Control Center's built-in amplifier is 2-ohm rated, you can connect up to 8 speakers and create three zones of audio. Zone 1 consists of four speaker outputs (front/rear), as well as the system's 6ch pre-outs. Zone 2 and Zone 3 consist of two speaker outputs each. You can turn on/off all zones, or select specific zones for playback. The same audio source will playback in each zone.
