i bought this as a "scratch and dent" for my 2003 hyundai sonata. i have yet to find either a scratch or dent, crutchfield is great. took me maybe two or so hours to install it. i've never done car audio before, although i'm very handy and good with electronics. it was fun to install, and i didn't have any problems with it. i never had to call crutchfield for help, either. however, when it first arrived, the mounting bracket was broken. i called crutchfield up, and they promptly sent me a new one with 2 day shipping. this company seems to be great, and i'll definitely be back to get new speakers. as for the radio itself, it sounds good, looks great with it's blue glow, the aux input works great too. the only only thing is that the aux input jack is a cable that runs from the back of the unit, instead of a jack on the front. so a had to burn a hole into the back of the mounting bracket so it could come around to the front. also, it made me realize that i BADLY need new speakers. the stock ones sound really tinny and are buzzing now that there is a better head unit installed. but other that, everything has been great! it's only been two weeks, we'll see how it holds up.

Pros: cool blue color, aux input works great, fairly easy install

Cons: blue light is kind of distracting at night, and there is no dimmer.

I replaced an older Alpine head unit with the new Dual and overall was very happy. The Alpine had a little better sound quality, but the dual has better functions and is easier to use. I love the color of the display and overall would recommend it to everyone. For the price I do not think you can get a better stereo.

Pretty decent head unit for the money. In fact, my only observation/complaint is that you can't adjust the FM tuning in .1Mhz increments. I'm sure it's not a problem in the states, but over here in Europe, there are some radio stations you can't pick up because you can't tune in the even numbers on the FM dial. Something to think about if you live overseas!

I have a 1994 Volvo 960 that has been through a number of audio upgrades. I went from my stock Volvo deck to a Blaupunkt one (a older model) that was promptly stolen out of my car, along with my 2 12" Kicker Comps and MY STOCK 6x9 rear speakers. Needless to say, I was not looking to spend much money to get music back in my car, so I got one of the cheapest units that had a iPod plug in. The funny thing is...this is one of the best budget decks out there. I have listened to a number of my friends higher end systems, but I would take mine any day. The blue face does glow a bit bright on dark nights, but is great during the day and for most other situations. The iPod plug it is flawless, and easy to hide if you want a more stealth approach. The CD player itself leaves some to be desired (skips rather easily), but I never use it because I always have my iPod. I have speakers in the back doors, and just installed Alpine Type S component speakers in the front, and this deck drives them both hard and clean. Not a single complaint from me about this product, and GOOD LUCK finding a better value out there.

MP3 Player, I-Plug, Power and Sound Quality flat smoke the factory stereo. Installed with factory speakers and the sound quality is significantly clearer and more crisp. Light is bright but is only a minor issue at night. I use the Iplug with my laptop computer to play DVD's through the system. It also works perfect with my MP3 Player. NICE! Overall, This was a great buy and a huge improvement over the factory stereo. It may not smoke a budget Alpine unit but it is feature packed and made my stock speaker equipped 4Runner sound better than it should! Crutchfield is the best around!

HU with a BIG "BUT"....

I have bought and used many high-end brands of CD players....Alpine / Eclipse / JVC / Kenwood just to name a few. I bought the XDM6820 to see what low-end was like, and it actually worked and sounded great!....especially for the price. BUT.... Three months down the line, the CD player started to skip over any bump that existed. I called Dual and asked them to help repair it since it was under warranty, and the CS-rep said that it was installed wrong?! I got upset because I have installed several dozen HU's in my time without a single problem. It just goes to show who is standing behind the product. Also....to say that it was installed wrong over the phone?...what's up with that nonsense?! SO!....if you want a good CD player, buy anything else.

Well.. first of all.. don't be afraid of the "extreme bright light.. cuz its not that bright.. i was afraid of buying this H.U because of the people saying it was so bright.. its not THAT bright... its cool.. second.. a lot of people complain about it not being that good and that they are staying with their alpine or kenwood.. ive never had an alpine or kenwood but my bro has... and he spend over 300 on his head units.. and to be completely honest my head unit is 10 times better than his.. (altho he did buy it like 3 years ago)... overall this H.U is darn good.. it made my stock speakers sound 10x better and it has cool features... it comes Ipod ready the only thing u need is the connector which is 2 males and of course ur ipod or whatever u want to use.. and with this head unit it never skips... unless its like a 9.0 earthquake... overall i would buy this H.U again and again and again.. i like it... and for the price.... and quality.. u cant go wrong... i give it a 5 because i find nothing wrong with this stereo and the price is a steal...

I bought this because it has plenty of features and is really cheap. It has been a really nice receiver for me, the install was very easy in my 1990 ford tempo. The iPlug is pretty much an extension of the aux input, and is really not all that great as you need to buy an additional cable to use the iPlug. The 18 watts per channel is not that good, but if you just want a lot of features and not a ton of sound this is a pretty good head unit.

Lets just say you won't ever see this in my line-up. The overall feel is very cheap, offset by it's shiney plastic trim to try to give it a higher end feel. Sound quality is second to overall sound output, the two are often confused. I think more attention was paid to the effect of the blue illumination than anything else on the radio. The mounting cage isn't what I would call quality, even for a mere stamped piece of steel. Do yourself a favor, save up for an actual head unit.

Decent Value

Price to performance - this receiver is pretty darned good. No complaints about audio quality - I love the turn-on volume memory and tone controls which remember presets for each audio source (CD, radio, and aux). However - it seems a trivial matter to have added one wire and the circuitry to dim that incredibly bright display. During the day - it's great. But it is more than a bit imposing at night. I checked the Dual website - and it appears even their high-end units don't have a dim feature. This seems like a very basic safety and asthetic issue - and one which could be easily added to the design. (And if you didn't want it to dim - just don't connect the wire - Duh!!!) I would have preferred a 3 or 4 band EQ - but again, for the price, this receiver is a very good value. Enough so that I purchased another for my daughter's car.

I bought this product after good bit of research, and after 2 weeks I am happy to say that this is an excellet receiver. Crystal clear sound, snazzy looks, and very intuitive interface. For the price paid, I think it is an extremely good deal. The instructions that came from Crutchfield were precise. That along with the fact that Toyota had already marked each wire with appropriate description made the installation a breeze. Even though this was my first time at any DYI stuff, I was done in about 45 minutes! For installtion remember to buy the crimper/wire stripper tool. It will be a worthwhile investment. Thanks Crutchfield!

Very good head unit

2004 Saturn Ion 1

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is a great head unit and I am happy with it. It has many features as the more expensive units do, which is impressive. But it's not perfect, so here is what you may run into: My Saturn ION has standard speakers with a stock CD player. The speakers would vibrate when there was too much bass(one-way speakers), so it was time for an improvement. I replaced the head unit first with a generic DVD audio system. The same speakers sounded amazingly much better, even with decent bass. But I didn't like the head unit for other reasons, so I sent it back and bought this Dual from Crutchfield. They included excellent instructions and shipped it really fast. Surprisingly, my stock speakers sounded much worse on this Dual, even worse than the original stock CD player! Once I replaced the speakers with some decent Pioneers, the sound quality is now good with the Dual. In other words, you may not get good sound from stock speakers with this head unit; although many other people here said their stock speakers sound better with the Dual. Like so many people have said, the display is too bright at night and is distracting. Instead of trying the "sharpie" trick, I opened the display (5-6 screws to open it) and covered the LEDs on the right side of the display with black tape. This shouldn't void the warranty as the tape can be easily removed (sharpie marks cannot). That solved the problem with the display brightness, as most of the brightness came from the six buttons on the right side of the display. Other than that, this is a great head unit. For the price, it's worth every penny and then some!

PROS: It was very easy to install on the radios part, some incompatibility with my 88 Honda Civic Hatchback. I really like the iplug, it works great with my iriver H10 20GB and the 1 foot 3.5mm headphone jack extension that I got so I could set my MP3 player on my center console. Not to mention that it looks great in my dash with the faceplate surround clipped on. CONS: The seek doesn't allow for rapid clicking. If you press the button to seek for the next station you have to wait for it to pick up that station before you can click the button again. If you press it too soon it just goes back to your previous station. Also the volume dial is very inaccurate. I can't quickly turn the volume up, if I rotate the dial to quickly then the volume either goes up then back down or goes up way to slower to accompany the speed I'm turning the dial. I haven't had to much problem with the bright blue lights because with the way I sit and drive, my arm usually blocks it; but the addition of a dimmer feature would be a great improvement (along with the correction of its other faults).

I was a little skeptical about this unit because of the low price, but purchased it based on the features and reviews I read. My son and I installed it in his '98 Jeep Cherokee. The install went great (about 2 hours with a pair of speakers) thanks to Crutchfield's instructions and harnesses. The unit itself is great and I still can't believe the features it has for the price. Everything works fine and the quality seems fine. Really like the i-Plug feature for hooking up an iPod and conceiling the wiring. I think this unit is a steal at this price.

This receiver is priced just right. It has very impressive looks...better than the picture shown here. Very simple to operate the basics of this unit. The six blue buttons don't bother me but maybe my radio sits lower than most vehicles out there today ('96 Sebring Convertible). Maybe I don't have sensitive eyes. With the wiring harness adapter the installation was a breeze and the radio sits perfectly in the dash. I plan on purchasing another one for my '96 Explorer (I like the simplicity of the radio). Just can't go wrong here.

Usually, the term "economical" isn't all that sexy but this case is completely different. I wanted an in-dash cd player stereo, found this unit, read the reviews, & was an excellent replacement for my factory original radio. Great price, fast shipping, pretty good installation instructions, & didn't take long to install for a beginner like me. Sound quality is excellent & the factory speakers sound better. 2 gripes I have: 1. The clock isn't always displayed but it's no biggie. 2. If you're a newbie like me, then you'd appreciate more detailed installation instructions especially when you don't know where the ground wire is & what to do with it. Mine was connected to the back of the factory stereo & I don't have the infinity sound system. All in all, good unit for a nice price. Glad I bought it & installed myself.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought one of these radios for my '95 Toyota Tercel mainly for the aux input so that I could stream music over my Treo from my server at home and listen to my tunes on the go. The Dual XDM6820 was a piece of cake to install. The sound is decent, and despite concerns from a friend that the wattage wouldn't be enough to sound decent at loud volumes, the radio can definitely perform admirably at volumes loud enough to drown out the road noise of my noisy Tercel. The display is pretty bright, as others have said, but I don't find it too bright while driving at night. In fact, I kind of like it as it's very crisp and easy to read at a glance. Being able to play re-writable MP3/WMA CD's is great, and works well/easily. The ability to cycle through file name/folder name/artist/song title/etc is convenient. My only complaint is that the button labels are very hard to read unless you bend down and stare at the thing head on. This means you pretty much have to memorize what each button does so that you don't have to struggle to figure out which one you want to hit while cruising down the road at 70+ MPH jamming to your tunes. In summary, for the price this thing can't be beat (at least as of this writing). It gets the job done, and done well.

I upgraded from a sony CD player that was in my '97 civic to the DUAL. I mostly just wanted an inexpensive way to plug my iPod in so I didn't have to use ear buds while driving. I can't believe how much better everything sounds compared to my old Sony! Still have the factory speakers too. I ended up having to manual wire it in, but evenso, it only took me about 20 minutes and it was in (and it was the my first time installing a car stereo). Ok, the blue lighted buttons are certainly bright at night, but for me, it's not that big of a deal. I still give it 5 stars for what you get for the price. As always, Crutchfield is fantastic and made this real easy.

This is the first time I've installed a car stereo, and it was an excellent experience for a beginner. I did my research before buying, and I am so glad I purchased this receiver from Crutchfield. With just one call to tech support, I was able to put the stereo in my car in under an hour. Even without new speakers to back it up, the Dual receiver has power, balance and style. It's just too bad my 1997 Camry doesn't have a wire to dim the ultra-bright blue light display. Overall, I had a great time buying, installing and rocking my new Dual CD receiver. Thank you, Crutchfield.com... I'll definitely be back!

This is only my 2nd purchase from Crutchfield. I consider myself a novice at installing any kind of automotive equipment. Here's the deal, you have to decide if you want to simply upgrade your stock stero (80% solution), or you want to go high-end and blow a wad of cash (100% Solution). I just wanted to go the upgrade route so I paired this with four Blaupunkt PCxb series speakers (total investment: under $200!). This combo sounds 100 times better than my factory stereo, nice Bass, clear highs. This deck has all I needed, plenty of power, logical interface, my iPod sounds awesome through the iPlug, and the ability to play mp3's allows me to carry all my favorite songs on 10 cd's. But if you want the "announce your arrival" using your stero, you may want to look into something more pricey. For everyone else, do yourself a favor, save your money, and get this unit!

when i got this, i was so excited, installed it(very easy thanks to crutchfields wire harness. my 1992 oldsmobile cutlass had some really tight screws so i had to do the worst and saw some screws out, but it turned out ok. everything sounds way better, i havent tested the mp3 part of the cd player yet, lights are how i like them, blue and bright. the only reason this is not a 5 is because it tends to lose its memory of everything occasionally, even with the battery in good shape, but other then that, this is a awesome reciver. my front JBLS are playing at there best, and now i need some good spekers for the back. good for the price too.

I bought this for a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ. The install kit fits fine(Surprise!), and the Crutchfield wire harness & instructions made this an easy job. I did all the soldering at the workbench, and plugged it together at the car. Easy! Because my Jeep spends a lot of time bouncing along rough trails, I am concerned that the install kit isnt strong enough for that. All the weight of the stereo is supported by just a soft plastic front frame. I improved that with 4" piece of 2"x 1/2" wood to support the bottom middle of the stereo (sits on a plastic shelf, youll see). Some double-stick foam tape will keep it from moving. I wish that the faceplate kit was off center, leaving room for a cd storage pocket above the stereo. Bad: this stereo has obnoxiously too bright blue buttons. Loses ALL memory when Battery is disconnected. Good: Stereo will pick up playing cd where you left it last time. :-) I bought it for the iPlug (which is good), but so far, I am playing mostly MP3 cds and they work out great. Easier than operating iPod & they store 10+ hours per MP3 cd. unit can display the song names, artist, etc. iPlug is great. Clock can stay on even when stereo is off. I mounted the iPlug facing right, down near the base of the stick shift(on dash). Ran the wire for it down behind everything, (drivers side), and came out under the dash by the console above the coin dish. It was easier to use only 1 screw & some double stick tape than try to get 2 screws in there. Looks neat, and is secure. Bottom line: This Dual XDM6820 stereo is way better than the Jeep factory unit. Plays MP3s & iPod, I'm happy with it.

Good looking, better sound (in a budget system) than the old one it replaced. iplug is OK, but why not just put the aux jack in the faceplate? My only problem is with the display, I cannot get it to default to time instead of function, the instructions to do this in the manual are the same as to change the time. So I have to hit the diplay button to see the time. So no 5 stars, but still a great budget buy.

Bought one begining of the summer. It's been great. Was easy to install, and worked perfect form the start. Have my iPod wired to the head unit and it's such a difference from the iTrip. This head unit is probably the best you can find for people that don't want to spend $400 and don't need a bunch of fancy features. I wanted a unit that worked, was easy to use, and sounded great, and this is definately it. Haven't replaced the rear speakers in my car that are terrible, can't imagine how its going to sound, it's already amazing.

Have had it installed for a couple of weeks now and I have no complaints. I am surprised by the power of this deck, I installed this along with two 4" front speakers to replace the factory jobs, and also added a pair of Dual 4 way 6x9's in the rear deck. wow, quite loud and clear sound for an unamplified system - all I could ask for. I am very pleased with this purchase. Also I like the look of it, very simple and clean. The nighttime brightness of the buttons - well, it doesn't bother me as it is in the lower console so it doesn't distract and actually has a nice look. If it was in the upper console I might not like it so much. The i-plug has also worked out well for my car, very handy and a nice feature to have tossed in with the deck. don't forget to purchase a mini-jack to mini-jack adapter with your order if you plan on using this feature. As a last note - I installed this in an 84 volvo GL, and was a little worried how it would fit in my clunker and if the install would be more difficult than I thought. again, no worries, fits like a glove and install was fairly smooth (speakers are another issue!!).

This unit has lots of good features at a great price, but does not deliver acceptable sound quality. The output for the CD player and the AUX is just too weak. Even turned up to max volume the music just wasn't that loud (however the radio was plenty loud). The sound has a harsh quality to it (perhaps due to distortion from having to turn the volume up to like 11) that is only partially relieved by using an EQ setting that trims the treble. The cheap Pioneer that I replaced with this Dual sounded way better (until it broke). This thing gets an extra star, however, for the handy iPlug and easy to read white on black display.

All of my former Head units in the past consited of Clarions, up to this point I have never found anything that could even come close to playing on the same field, at first I thought I had a brain lapse. I figured if I did not like the radio I could use the XM tuner with the Clarion that I would order, but that will not happen. This radio rocks! I hope it just lasts. My stock speakers even sound 10x better, I can turn them up with the bass down and they dont distort untill it really gets loud. As for the bright lights people seem to be crying about, there nothing. I have seen PLENTY of brighter deck's and this one is not bright enough to complain about. It does produce some light, but not a "driving hazard" as some people seem to cry about. Very good deck for the price, highly recommended!

I am running a car computer system in my car. I use it to play DVD's, run my Sirius and play my 3000 mp3's. I have a 7" touch screen VGA display that folds away in the lower mounting hole of my dual DIN dash. The computer runs its sound output out its sound card and I needed a way to connect that to my head unit. The factory unit, while acceptable, did not have an easy way to hook the computer up. So I thought I'd give this unit a try and see how it did. The deciding factor....this is the least expensive unit I found that had an Aux. input (RCA's L/R). I also purchased the wiring adapter to hook to my factory wiring harness. I had it installed and hooked to the computer in less than 10 minutes and started testing. This inexpensive unit has a nice sound with alot of nice features. The sound is outstanding for the price and much better than the factory unit. Overall I would not think twice about purchasing this unit again. It is a great value and most people will enjoy it's nice sounds and features. If your a high end audiophile you'll pick this little unit apart. But the rest of us will enjoy our purchase and have some change left over to take the family out to dinner. Enjoy !!

I bought this receiver for my 87 volvo 240, and man was I impressed. I bought this one because I was looking for something that played mp3's, wma's, and didn't cost an arm and a leg to buy. This reciever had everything I wanted and more with the iPlug that hooks up to my dell DJ. This thing sounds excellent, looks good, and has a couple cool tricks along with it. Some people have mentioned the "super-bright" buttons on it, but I don't find these lights too bright at all. The installation was nothing, and incase I want to add a sub, it has the pre amp outputs ready for hook up. This was defenitely a great buy with great performance and super low price.

This is a great unit for the price. I love that it supports MP3/WMA playback for under $100. The display is nice as well. The only cons I've seen so far are that it doesn't support satelite radio or a CD changer, and it doesn't have a dimmer for the display for night driving. It also lacks true EQ curves. Standard Bass/Treble are fine for my needs though. At under $100, you can't go wrong.

This stereo is really terrific. I was skeptical, because it was cheap, but it is better than the one that I had in my car before that cost a lot more. It was very easy to install and it has a function that gives it different options for sounds, like a surround sound system has on a tv. The ipod adapter is perfect. I had an aux. in the front of my last stereo, but this one is actually better, because I can set it such that it is conveniently near me without a long adapter wire. It was a snap to install and the buttons are very easy to read and understand. If you ask me this is a fantastic deal. Because I had a stereo that I installed myself before this one, I did not need to buy the adapter that you have to splice together to install it, I just reused the previous one, so I did not need to buy anything extra. So it was just a matter of matching wires. And I don't think it is too bright. I haven't read the whole manual, so I haven't learned how to change the brightness if I chose to yet, but will investigate that as well. This IS very good.

Great sound on the factory speakers of my '99 Toyota Rav4. Good functions, easy to use. The lights are bright, and the marker idea didn't do too much. There is a fix, fortunately. Take the back off the face and take out the 6 buttons. Then use a black Sharpie, permanent ink, and black out the back of the buttons. It works great and make the buttons the same brightness as the rest of the reciever. Now it is the perfect player.

This unit was everything that I expected it to be when it arrived. However after preparing my car for this new stereo, original one was stolen, the installation was a snap with the extra directions supplied by Crutchfield. But, when I went to turn the stereo on I had no sound. Thinking that the thiefs done more damage when stealing my original stereo I thought I had other problems. After eliminating all other possible problems I called Crutchfield technical assistance and they guided me thorough all other possiblilities. After determing that it was a faulty system, a month after I originally purchased the unit, without hesitation Crutchfield sent me a new unit which is working perfectly. This stereo by Dual sounds very good and has a ton of features that only your very expensive name brands have, if they have them at all. I would recommend the unit to anyone. As far as the complaints of the brightness of the display, it doesn't seem all that bad to me.

With the instructions provided by Crutchfield, along with the recommended additional parts (wire harness/DIN pocket), installation was very fast and easier than I expected -- and the unit fit perfectly. I do not find the buttons to be too bright/distracting for night driving. It's been just what I wanted as a replacement for the 2006 Subaru (Forester) multi-CD unit (no aux/no MP3 CD).

Install: Easy. Most difficult was grounding the black wire. I ended up just grounding it to itself since i didn't want to get extension wire. It works, but this might not be advisable. [Editor's note: definitely not advisable - in fact, you can't actually ground something to itself. There is some other unidentified ground connection that is responsible for this "working" for this installation. It's likely that the unit is receiving ground through the chassis or antenna, which can cause unwanted noise. We recommending properly grounding all electronics.] Sound is improved over stock even with stock speakers. With the LOUD function on, sound is fuller and bass is much better over stock. Navigation is not intuitive, so you will have to read the manual to figure out and remember which navigation buttons are most important to you. Although another review states otherwise, there IS a function to have the clock on when the unit is off. Function buttons ARE bright, but if your unit is not too high in your field of vision then it isn't a problem. In my 96 Sentra, at first i thought it might be distracting but it's not. For the price it is a good value.

Installed this unit in my 1997 Avalon after figuring out the wiring and soldering in all connectors and testing along the way the sound was Excellent much better than the stock system that I replaced. I wish however I had tested it at night as the display is sooo bright you need sunglasses and in my opinion is a night driving hazard. Unfortunately its already installed so I will have to put a cover over it. If bright lights do not bother you on the dash at night then this is a great product if it does buy something else that can Be dimmed.

I don't have very good speakers so I will not comment on the sound quality, but so far I am impressed overall -- especially for the price. MP3 CDs and Aux input are great features. The player does not seem to be picky about the MP3 CDs at all -- which is more than I can say for the MP3 CD player in my brother's new $75K Corvette Z06! The only other thing I think this lacks is a better EQ. You can only adjust the basic Bass and Treble. Because of that and the super bright buttons, I'll hold off on a full 5 starts, but it's a solid 4 stars for sure.

Good: The price is very attractive, easy to install, has RCA pigtails as part of the unit and includes a mini-adapter iPlug component, hard case to store face plate, and good overall sound. Bad: Radio receiver is weaker than the my vehicles stock receiver. The Dual emblem continually falls off. DIN tool guides are really lame so removing the stereo requires a bit of jury-rigging. Provided tool typically cannot release the latches enabling full removal of the stereo. Overall: Just can't beat the price. Plus, 95% of my time is spent listening to satellite radio so weak radio performance isn't much of a factor for me.

So far so good. My only complaint is that it should have come with the mini stereo audio cable to connect to the Ipod interface. It is much easier to find an RCA to a male mini stereo cable (by-passing the Iplug interface) than it is to find a mini stereo male to male cable.

This unit is an excellent performer in every way EXCEPT for the too bright display. The main display brightness is not as intense as the 6 mode buttons which are dowright dangerous at night. The glare off my windshield and into the corner of my eyes made me turn the unit off at night and consider returning it. I covered the offending sections of the display with black electrical tape which stops the glare and allows me to use the unit at night but looks really stupid. I noticed that a lot of other units lacked this ability as well. How expensive could it be to include a dimmer for the display? I would not buy this unit again simply for this reason. When a dimmer function is built in this unit will be awesome.

Granted, I'm not much of an audiophile, but I like this unit very much. The internal amp has plenty of clean power for the four 4x6 speakers in my Porsche 944 Turbo, and the large rotary knob and relatively large buttons make using the various functions a snap. The CD doesn't skip except over VERY rough stuff, the programmable turn-on volume is a great feature, and the iPlug adapter is awesome. Irritating stuff? The blue display is too bright, and I sort of wish the clock would display even with the power off, but other than that, it's great. Install took me less than an hour, and I'm "electronically challenged." Overall, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

A lot of features, plays mp3's and cd's well. I wanted a cd player that was under $100, but still sounds good. This is it! Some of you audiophiles out there may like your expensive decks, I am just a father of 2 on a budget. I like the EQ setup and the overall appearance of the deck is nice. As stated in previous posts, there is no way to dim the LED's but that is not an issue for me. The sound is way better than the stock Delco GM tape deck that was in my GMC Sierra pickup. It offers more power, so now I have a good volume level. I like the volume knob, as compared to some with button type volume controls. Easy installation, easy setup and good instruction manual.

I just installed this unit in my 1988 Land Cruiser. The truck is an off-road winter beater so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This head unit fit the bill perfectly. It has great sound (92db s/n ratio) and the built in amp provides plenty of power to my front and rear 6.5" speakers. The only issues I have with this unit is that the light from it is very intense when driving at night; and that the MP3 engine does not list folders, just an immense sequential MP3 list. These issues are minor however, and overshadowed by the immense convenience of an auxiliary input (which are surprisingly hard to find). Although this unit won't make me forget the McIntosh system in my other car, it is perfect for those with 4x4s looking for some tunes on the trails. And the aux input lets you plug in your iPod for some solid state shock-proof rock humping, or your GPS so you can hear those voice prompts from your Lowrance iWay500C.

This unit is great at (now) $90. Just like some other reviewers, I rated it 4 out of 5 only due to lack of a dimmer circuit..maybe they'll include that feature later. Also, another reviewer reported the volume always turning on at 10 - that is also controllable if you read the instructions..it's a great feature if you turned off the car when jamming and then get back in late at night ;) I simply cannot seem to find a better deal if you are on a budget, given the features of MP3/WMA & included aux. jack.

I bought this unit based on reviews I read. While "Dual" is a fresh name here in the US, the company "Namsung" has been around for years in Korea. Anyways, I am totally impressed with this unit. It replaced 6yr old Alpine deck which would not play CD anymore. The sound quality is pretty good and its ability to play MP3 AND WMA is totally neat. I thought I was going to connect the IPOD to the aux but i ended up just using the MP3/WMA CDs. I know some folks complained about the bright blue LEDs. I think they are totally cool. They are on a little bit bright side but it doesnt bother me at all. I would highly recommend this unit.

This unit performs all audio functions as expected. However the 6 blue buttons are entirely too bright with no ability to dim them. The LED's they selected for these 6 buttons are so bright that it is a distraction when driving at night or perhaps the LED's are the right type but the plastic used in the buttons doesn't absorb enough light i.e. not opaque enough. I'm going to have to try to jury-rig something over those 6 buttons for I cannot stress enough how distracting it is for an otherwise excellent unit.

I love being able to play mp3 disks, so i dont' have to change cd's that often, and the iPlug, so i can play my digital music player through it. This is the best reciever in terms of bang for your buck, and will be in my car until either it or the car won't start. I haven't replaced any speakers yet, but i'm sure i'll love it more when i do.

In a nutshell, you'll be hard pressed to find another unit at this price with these features. However, I have returned mine for an Alpine unit. The blue LED's on the control buttons are so bright they are a serious distraction at night. On my car, there is no wire in the wiring harness to control the brightness of the display. Some cars have a connection so that when you dim the dash lights, the stereo will dim. Because my car did not have this, the LED's were cranked up to Max. I called Dual, and they said that others have complained about this, and that is no way on the reciever itself to adjust the brightness. Other than this, it was a nice unit with great features, but I couldn't live with the intense blue glow, so I exchanged it.

This Dual CD/MP3/WMA receiver is far more capable than the price suggests. I installed this receiver about two months ago, and it greatly surpasses the abilities of the more-expensive Aiwa CD/MP3/WMA receiver that it replaces. For the price, I got a CD receiver that can read MP3 and/or WMA-encoded discs, whether on CD-R or CD-RW discs. This receiver remembers the location of each track from when the vehicle was last turned-off. My 2002 Aiwa receiver could not do that. This receiver also has a file-searching feature that allows the user to use the Jog Dial (volume control) to search for a specific file/song by three different methods. My $250 Aiwa receiver didn't even have a Jog Dial, nor could I search for anything. An added benefit to this receiver that cannot be overlooked is the iPlug feature. You can connect practically any audio source to this receiver with a single 3.5mm stereo cable; portable DVD player, plug-n-play satellite radio, MD or MP3 player, and on and on. And the best thing about this feature is that the plug is connected to a long cable that connects to the receiver, so the iPlug can be mounted anywhere in your vehicle, for easy access. Plus, there are the single set of preamp outputs on the receiver that are ideal for a powered subwoofer or amp. For the price, I don't think there's another receiver out there that could come close to the feature content of the Dual XDM6820.

This unit delivers more than you should expect for $99. MP3 support is excellent. The unit handles poorly encoded mp3s flawlessly where those files might have a 'bleep' or other hiccup in some sofware players. The MP3 search interface is not at all intuitive, but is quite useful once you read the manual to figure it out. I especially like the "folder skip" buttons. And the random-play-inside-a-folder feature. My only complaint is the very short limitation on the file/folder name length (16 chars?) that is drawn on the screen, but this is easily worked around by re-naming the files to only include track number and title. Note that files with longer names play properly, it's just that the full name doesn't scroll by when the song's playing.

This is an incredible unit for under $100! The features are hard to beat for a head unit of this price. The included Crutchfield installation instructions and the necessary (for me at least) dash kit and wiring harness made installation a snap. Installed and up and running in less than an hour. A major (but not necessarily the most important) feature that swayed my decision to purchase this unit is the iPlug adapter that is included so that portable electronics devices (like MP3 players and satellite radio receivers) can be played through the unit. The only problem I have is with satellite receiver playback. I have a Sirius Starmate and get a lot of electronic noise when connected to the iPlug but that is not a fault of the XDM6820. I would buy this unit again when the time comes.

I initially just wanted something really really cheap for my old Camry. I knew this would be the perfect option for that. Let me tell you what, The Alpine9843 I had in my last car, only costs $50 more, and was the better deck. This unit is kind of weird, for one thing, if you turn off your car, and have a burned CDRW with mp3 tracks on it, it messes up if you dont turn off the deck first. (MY Alpine decks never had this issue) When you turn your car back on, it will say disc reading, and give an ERROR. So you have to hit eject and re-insert the cd. (PRETTY ANNOYING when yer goin in and out). The odd part is, the unit functions FINE if you 'POWER' the unit off first, before turning off your ignition. Except for the fact that it cant "remember" the previous volume setting, and itll default to the volume of 10. (which isnt a big deal, but when u specifically set yer volume at 4 and you turn yer car back on and have it blare at you...) ..ANYWAYS, apart from these "minor/major" faults, the unit is pretty good. The LCD is also rather "choppy" when displaying track names in marquee, where as, my alpines werent.. (yea Im picky) Then u gotta deal with returing the old deck, yaadda, yaadaa, (thank god for Crutchfield though) my .02 cents.

(A local "super store" dealer wanted me to wait for days for professional installation on the same unit and was charging 50+ for mounting material without including labor fees). You'll never find a receiver with so many features at this price with support of MP3, Microsoft WMA and Auxiliary Input (3.5mm stereo jack). You can hook up an iPod, any MP3 player, a Sony PSP, a Portable DVD Player, your notebook computer or any device with a stereo jack to the auxiliary input. Ok, I replaced my older Clarion Pro audio head unit with this item. My Clarion was $499 and did not do mp3 or wma.(but it looked pretty!) I had a Pioneer deck with mp3, but the dual is faster at skipping between tracks and files at a fraction of the $$$(but the Pioneer looked pretty!). This deck looks similar to some Alpines, but in blue black, and it has "20 watts RMS". My Clarion Had only 16 watts RMS, but stated 50!(What a Joke!!!!). The dual also sports the i-plug to plug in ipods and portable dvds and other stuff. It sounds awesome through my Infinity speakers and for the price($100) is absolutely spectacular. One fifth what I paid for the Clarion, and I am much more satisfied with this unit. Do not hesitate to get this head unit. I promise you will not be dissatisfied. Display Features

Display Priority: You can set the unit to a source display or time display priority. When set to source display priority, the radio tuner frequency, CD track/elapsed time, selected MP3/WMA information, or Aux display will be displayed by default. The clock can be accessed temporarily when the Display button is pressed. When the time display priority, the clock is displayed by default, while the source information can be accessed temporarily with the Display button.

12/24 Hour Clock: When the unit's radio tuning interval is set to USA spacing, the clock is displayed in a 12-hour format. If the unit is switched to European frequency spacing, the clock switches to a 24-hour format.

Clock Display Note: Normally, the display illuminates only when the unit is on. You can program it so the clock is displayed when the unit is off. In this case, the clock display is "keyed", and will turn on and off as the ignition key is turned on and off.

Audio Section

Preset EQ Curves: You can choose from five preset curves: Pop, Jazz, Classic, Beat and Rock. Any adjustment to the bass or treble settings automatically cancels the current EQ curve.

Source Audio Memory: Individual bass and treble settings are retained in memory for AM, FM, CD, and AUX modes.

Turn-on Volume: You can preset the unit's volume when it is powered on. Each time the unit is turned on, the volume is reset to the preset level regardless of the volume level when the unit was last turned off.
