Q
How do we crimp these?
[ Tom  Sep 18, 2020 ]

A
My recollection is that I used a regular pair of pliers to crimp them.

Q
I have a pair of Thiel Speakers that require a Spade connector - while the TV requires a (sigh) RCA connectors. Does a this type of wire harness exist? Or do i have to build one?

You can purchase rca-male to rca-female main cables to suit your length req'mts, then use this adapter at your speakers (Rockford Fosgate RFI2SW Adapter Cable from Speaker Wires to RCA Plug). The Crutchfield spades are pretty high quality. The black insulating sleeves are meant to be pulled back over the wire, then pulled over the crimp after wire crimping is completed ( I.e. wires not crimped w/ the black sleeve in place like standard crimp spades). If you don't have a crimp tool, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to save money. Hope this helps. GB

Hi Larry, First I want to say that Thiel Speakers are very nice, high end speakers! Next I have to say that something about what you want to do doesn't quite make sense. Spade connectors on speakers are pretty common, but I don't think I've ever found RCA output jacks on a device used to power speakers directly. My guess is that what you are looking at on your TV is a pair of RCA jacks probably labeled 'Audio Out'. These would not power speakers directly as the output power is quite low. In fact, don't try it as the low impedance or resistance of your speakers may overload the circuits in your TV and cause some damage. Anyway, the 'Audio Out' jacks on your TV are, I believe, to be used to connect to a separate device such as a surround sound amp or a receiver. This separate amp or receiver would then have speaker output terminals with the power required to drive speakers. It might even have terminals for spade connectors. I suggest you review your TV's manual for examples of various external component connections. If you don't have a manual you can probably find one online. Also, you could call the guys at Crutchfield if my answer doesn't seem to apply.

Q
What is the outside width of the spade/forks?
[ Matthew  Feb 06, 2019 ]

Measuring a terminal I have, the outside width is .316" which is basically 5/16". Also, FYI, the slot in the tab measures .166" wide. This will fit up to a #8 Machine Screw. The material thickness measures .036" which is basically 1/32".

Q
Can these be soldered instead of crimped?
[ William  Feb 18, 2019 ]

No. That rubber wont come off and it will make for poor connections if you solder over it.

Yes ... slide the boot down and solder your connection then slide boot up to cover the joint .
