About the Focal Chora 826

Innovative driver design

Focal's Chora lineup is all about a big soundstage, clean sound, and exquisite detail. How do they do it? With a relentless dedication to developing innovative new drivers. Focal designs and produces all their drivers in house, resulting in a wide range of great speakers for varying budgets. The 826 tower carries a lighter price tag than many high-end speakers. But anyone who has ever heard it would never call the sound anything other than bona fide hi-fi.

Focal's latest woofer design

The secret ingredient of the new Chora speakers is the Slatefiber woofer, made of recycled carbon fibers. Carbon fibers are very rigid — important for any speaker cone material. But they go beyond rigidity. These cones are lighter, more responsive, and have better damping than the Polyglass woofers of the previous Chorus speakers. As a result, the Chora 826 looks to be better balanced (particularly in the midrange), offer better, tighter bass response, and respond beautifully to high-current power.

Trickle-down tweeter tech

For the Chora's high frequencies, Focal chose their TNF inverted dome tweeter. This design is known for a wide soundstage that's not seating-position critical. One new development in this iteration is the use of a material called Poron, which suspends the tweeter from its mount. This suspension is trickled down from the Beryllium drivers in Focal's flagship Utopia speakers. Think of it as memory foam. By maintaining its shape as the driver moves, it significantly reduces distortion for clearer sound.

Gorgeous lean-back cabinet

Time alignment is a fancy way of saying that the sound from each driver should hit your ears at the same time. That's why the 826's cabinet is angled, for sound that's accurate and locked in. The speakers are available in three beautiful finishes that will make a statement before you even turn on your amp.

Product Research

3-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker: The Focal Chora 826 floorstanding speaker utilizes a 3-way driver design with a 1" TNF aluminum/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter, a dedicated 6.5" slatefiber cone midrange driver, and two 6.5" slatefiber cone woofers for smooth highs, balanced and precise midrange, and perfectly articulated bass. The Chora Series floorstanding loudspeaker offers the most faithful sound reproduction, whether you are listening to a music or movie soundtrack. The Chora 826 works best in rooms measuring over 323 sq/ft.

TNF Aluminum/Magnesium Tweeter: The Focal Chora 826 features a single 1" TNF inverted-dome tweeter made of aluminum and magnesium alloy. The inverted-dome technology allows optimal energy transfer and wide dispersion. The aluminum/magnesium makeup guarantees exception performance in terms of stiffness and damping, thus ensuring a subtle blend of softness and dynamics. Performance of the TNF tweeter is enhanced by its new Poron suspension material. Poron is a polyurethane micro-cellular foam which has a porous open-cell structure. This memory foam is very light which means that the suspension will not become damaged or compressed with time. It is an essential element of the TNF tweeter as the suspension allows the dome to move freely. Its uniform and constant physical properties ensure excellent stability and linearity, along with extreme accuracy and distortion-free sound. The result is a sound which is soft and precise and which offers improved harmonics richness and a more precise soundstage

6.5" Slatefiber Cone Technology: The Chora 826 uses Slatefiber cone technology in its midrange driver and woofers. Slatefiber technology, exclusive to Focal, involves the use of recycled, non-woven carbon fibers applied as a sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers have opted to use non-woven carbon fibers, all pointing in the same direction to achieve even greater rigidity and better damping. Manufactured in the Focal workshops using an ultra-modern industrial tool, the "slate" effect of the cone provides better damping and rigidity, but also lightness - the three "essentials" of a good loudspeaker driver.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Focal Chora 826's speaker cabinet uses solid MDF construction, internal bracing, and a non-parallel inner wall structure to reduce internal resonance for less coloration. This bass reflex type cabinet uses an aerodynamic front port for greater efficiency and to reduce distortion of the bass.

Grilles: The Chora Series floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a detachable magnetic cloth grille that covers the woofers and midrange driver. The grille has to be aligned just right with the front of the cabinet to magnetically attach to the speaker. The tweeter features its own integrated, non-removable grille.

Binding Posts: The Focal Chora 826 is outfitted with a pair of binding post terminals that will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin connectors, spade connectors, and banana plugs (single only). You'll need to remove two plastic caps from the binding post terminals to accommodate banana plugs.

Tilted Based with Rubber or Spike Feet: The Focal Chora 826 comes with a tilted base that provides proprer time alignment for optimal soundstage imaging that is more focused on the listener. It also includes spike feet for carpeted floors; as well as rubber feet for hardwood, ceramic, laminate, and vinyl flooring. The base and feet have to be installed.

  • Dimensions With Rubber Feet: 12.0" (w) x 40.5" (h) x 15.875"
  • Dimensions With Spike Feet: 12.0" (w) x 40.875" (h) x 15.875"

Note: The plinth and feet should always be used for proper time alignment, optimum sound quality, and maximum stability.

Applications & Placement: The Chora 826 can be used in a stereo application, or as front and/or surround speakers in a home theater setup.

  • A pair of floorstanding speakers should form an equilateral triangle with one another and your main listening position.
  • The speaker performs best when its positioned away from the corner. Do not corner load the speaker.

Chora Series: Focal's Chora Series integrates speaker drivers manufactured in France and features an exclusive Slatefiber cone. Every detail of the Chora Series has been meticulously thought out to meet expectations in sound reproduction and aesthetics. The Chora Series by Focal consists of three floorstanding loudspeakers (816/826/826D), one bookshelf loudspeaker (806), a center-channel loudspeaker (Center), Surround loudspeaker (Surround - coming soon)

Optional Powered Sub: Add on a Focal powered subwoofer (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for bigger, deep, and more dynamic bass response.

Customer Q&A

4 questions already asked

Hi I wanted to know how the Focal 826 or the 816s will work with my denon x1600h. It will be for home theater and gaming. I was suggested to get the a2100 2 way amp, any thoughts? I am thinking I will go with the 816s because I have a sub.

Denon is a very fine machine. However, I was using a 100 watt Cambridge that provided an excellent sound but exchanged it due to fan noise. I am now using an 85 watt Yamaha that is not as good but still very enjoyable. I think you'll be fine particularly with your sub.
[ DANIEL  Sep 27, 2021 ]
My product was lost and was refunded. But i have listened to 826 on my friends place paired with SVS sub and its awsome, get any model and you won't be dissatisfied
[ TANIM  Sep 27, 2021 ]

Hello, should be an excellent match. You just need two channels and you even have room for a potential subwoofer. 100w are enough to get the best from this wonderful pair of speakers. ????
[ ALEJANDRO  Jan 25, 2021 ]
The 140w power being driven should be more than enough for all of your listening levels. I used a 75w for these originally and was always no more than 36-40% volume for moderate, normal listening volumes. The fact that your amp even has tone controls...even better for room eq!
[ STEVEN  Jan 25, 2021 ]
Thank you very much.Because i dont very sure for these speakers if need very very power and my amp dont have.
[ 6948455427  Jan 25, 2021 ]
Yes! Plenty of power for these speakers.
[ BRUCE  Jan 25, 2021 ]
How do these sound compared to the previous generation Focal Chorus 726?
[ Matt R  Aug 28, 2021 ]

I don't know but can say they are crisp and tight at all levels. Only problem is you'll need a sub as they don't deliver any real low end
[ brad  Aug 28, 2021 ]
Can I drive these speakers with a Pioneer VSX-824 (80 RMS) for a while before I upgrade? Thanks
[ Jeremy  Aug 21, 2021 ]

Yes I feel you can. They are 91db sensitive measured at 1 watt per meter. I am currently driving them easily with an older Marantz SR-18U receiver until my separates finally arrive. While I will likely send mine back and purchase their bigger brother the Aria 948, these are really nice speakers. I wanted a bit more presence without relying on the sub for depth. Focal makes a very nice product indeed.
[ Todd  Aug 23, 2021 ]
I have pioneer sc24 in a 5.1 and it does very well. If you do stereo and it is a temporary, that should be enough.
[ MANU  Aug 21, 2021 ]
Yes. No problem.
[ BRUCE  Aug 21, 2021 ]
It shouldn't be a problem, these are efficient speakers. I've used a Denon AVR-X3300 with similar RMS and it was enough to produce clean quality sound at volumes loud enough for most rooms.
