Absolute Bliss

Focal has absolutely delivered an incredible audio product with these open back headphones. Having owned Focal car audio components and having been impressed, decided I wanted to invest in a nice pair of open back headphones now that I spend a majority of my listening time at my desk. I paired these with the Ifi Neo DSD desktop DAC/Amp. These things will blow your ear drums, so you will not have to worry about whether they will get loud enough. The clarity, the bass response, the soundstage are all just incredible. Listening to Dave Matthews Band on TIDAL MQA is just pure bliss. You can easily isolate every single instrument, it's just something to behold. Once you start listening you don't want to take them off. Everytime someone taps your on the shoulder to break your immersion, it makes you wanna slap your momma! If you can afford them, and if you're reading this your probably can, just go for it!

Pros: Incredible Clarity Soundstage Comfort

Cons: None

I've never owned audiophile headphones. What a huge difference. The Focal Clear headphones have a very focused bass, smooth mid range and crisp highs. Highly recommend them. Crutchfield has always delivered perfect service for me.

Another GREAT headphone from Focal!

These took everything I enjoyed about the original Clear and brought it to the next level. These headphones do a great job of balancing their robust (but not bloated or overly boomy) bass with open and detailed highs. I didn't get any sense of harshness from the highs, even with longer listening sessions. Midrange was very natural sounding also, though the bass was the star of the show for me. Sound stage is good, but in particular the imaging is spot on - though some of this can be amp dependent. I had good results with portable DragonFly DACs as well as a few desktop DAC/amps (really enjoyed these with my older Cambridge DacMagic Plus!). Very comfortable earpads as well. Big fan of these headphones, so if you're looking to cover a good balance all the way from deep bass to clear highs, these fit the bill!

Plainer Sound Without the Weight

I'd been using Sennheiser HD 600's, which were Absolute Sound Class A rated back in the day. I decided to upgrade, so I started with Audeze LCD X's. The sound was excellent, but at 22 ounces, my neck got sore after about 20 minutes. I sent them back & tried the Focal Clear Mg's. They sound very similar, with solid bass and crystal clear highs. I've got Revel Performa 328be main speakers & the Focals sound very similarly clear and smooth in the highs. The construction on the Focals is top-notch and the overall design is quite beautiful. At 16.7 ounces, they're much more comfortable for long listening sessions than the Audeze were. These headphones are easy to drive from any phone or tablet. The shorter of the two cables that it comes with seems designed to work with a phone in your pocket. For that purpose, the length is just right. But for any other purpose, it's absurdly short. The longer cord has an XLR connector, which my DAC doesn't have, so I just use an extension cord on the shorter one. I'll get a longer single cord when I get around to it. One other aspect that I considered was expected reliability. I've owned three planar-style speakers: ESS, with the original AMT driver, Infinitys, with the EMIT, and Magnepans. So I obviously love the clarity that comes with planar speakers. But on every one of those, the planar driver burned out. I've got standard coil-driven speakers that outlasted them all. It's just a more reliable technology.

Pros: Great sound Solid construction Beautiful appearance

Cons: Cord too short for many purposes

Focal Clear Mg Headphones - Best Sounding cans!

It has been several weeks now since I have upgraded from the Focal Celestee head phones. I really liked the Celestee. One of the most beautiful headphones I have seen. The sound was great, great detail, good bass, good mid-range but lack the high end I was looking for. So I took a chance and traded in and up graded to the Focal Clear Mg. The Chestnut color at first was ok but over the weeks it has grown on me. The sound was good but if you wait until the Clears break-in, the Clear Mg get better and better. the detail is fantastic, the bass is incredible you hear and feel the bass. The mid-range is spot on in detail as well and then the highs I was lacking from the Celestee I could hear the details I was missing. The open back sound from the Focal Clear Mg puts you front and center with the music and I spend hours listening to music from; Jean-Luc Ponty, Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani, Rush, Pink Floyd, to Tool, Three doors down and groups like Chevelle, and even Music from Blank & Jones the bass is excellent, Sunlounger just to name a few. Mozart, Beethoven just to name a couple of Orchestra's, The sound is awesome. again the detail is fantastic. Could the highs be even more detailed, sure but it would be too bright for me. I also own a pair of Sennheiser HD 650, Bererdynamic Amiron Home, Bererdynamic DT 990 pro and even an old pair still sounding fantastic, "30 Plus yrs" Nakamichi sp-7 headphones. None of these Headphones compare to the Focal Clear Mg.

Pros: Best sound from headphones I have heard to date. very comfortable to wear.

Cons: The 4ft cord, but I did buy Grado 15' extension headphone cable cord and problem solved!
