Meticulous design and construction

Handmade in France, the Elite K2 Power Series ES 165K component system is the culmination of Focal's passion for perfect sound, exceptional standards, and technological advances. Focal's sound gurus engaged in intensive listening sessions designing this line of speakers so that you hear uncanny realism, sweeping dynamics, and breathtaking depth in your music.

A classic woofer with a new twist

The 6-1/2" woofer uses Focal's classic "W" sandwich cone design to reproduce your audio with incredible accuracy. The nimble Kevlar and glass-fiber woofers demonstrate the control needed to play delicate classical passages, yet they'll handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy tracks with authority. Focal adds a new Tuned Mass Damper (TMD®) rubber surround which minimizes harmonic distortion for the cleanest midrange possible.

A redesigned tweeter

The unique aramid fiber tweeter employs an "M"-shaped inverted dome design that disperses the highs with remarkable precision, all the way up to 22,000 Hz. The K2 Power crossovers use hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs and lows for a dynamic stereo image. Three levels of tweeter control let you dial in the sound to your car's environment

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Love these speakers

I put these in my 2014 SS Camaro convertible with an upgraded JBL amp and this is the BEST car stereo I have ever owned!! These speakers rock and stay clear at all volume levels! Tweeters can sometimes be too bright but for the first time ever hear so much in music I have been listening too for decades!

Pros: Clarity, sound quality at all volume levels,

Cons: Tweeters can be too bright on some songs, but I really only notice it 5% of the time

Absolute perfection! with the right tuning. These sound best with quality components, ie. quality RCA, quality amp, dedicated speaker wire. These are so loud and clear that I haven't gotten it above sound level 15 of 40 on my head unit yet. Head unit sound level 15 is already pushing decibel levels very high for keeping my hard top on the Jeep. I'm sure it'll like higher levels with the top off. Current config: . Alpine head unit . Alpine PDX F6 amp- 165w (rated) x 4 . Stinger RCA . dedicated speaker wire . Focal ES 165k front . Focal PS 165FX rear Don't under-power these, feed them what they need and they will perform flawlessly.

Pros: . extreme attention to detail & quality in build materials . balanced and crystal clear throughout the entire sound curve . absolutely no distortion at any volume level . "studio quality" really means studio quality. Hear the music the way the artist intended . notes & lyrics appear you will never have heard before on another speaker system . handles any type of music with extreme precision, there isn't a music genre that doesn't sound incredible with these

Cons: . price- you get what you pay for

Woofer

K2 Cone: The woofer cone is a sandwich composite consisting of a foam core, a structural glass fiber bottom layer, and a Kevlar top layer. This combination of materials results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.

Surround: Focal's patented butyl rubber TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) surround helps control unwanted resonances, providing a clean and neutral midrange with very low harmonic distortion.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1-1/4" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Focal, call this size woofer a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size as a 6-3/4". Please enter you vehicle information to confirm fit in your vehicle.

Tweeter

Inverted Dome: The "M" profile, Aramid fiber, inverted dome tweeter is designed to increase precision at very high frequencies. The push-pull motor also damps acoustic resonances on the back of the membrane and extends the low end of the frequency response.

Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted using the included adapters, or the trim ring can be removed and the protective washers added for mounting in a factory tweeter location. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at one of two angles; approximately 60° and approximately 40°.

Crossover

Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality. Thermal camera imaging is used to optimize component power dissipation, improve reliability, and lower temperature.

Slope: The high-pass crossover slope is 12 dB/octave. A switch allows you to choose between 12 dB/octave and 6 dB/octave slopes for the low-pass crossover. The crossover point for both is 3,500 Hz.

Tweeter Level: A three position switch on the crossover allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeter to -3 dB, 0 dB, or +3 dB.

Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
Previous Focal K2 165/2 speakers performed beautifully but lacked the punch of the 4 ohm K2 165/3. These are to replace the K2 165/2 2 ohm door speakers. [ MIKE F  May 16, 2016 ]

Q
Can you biamp the crossovers?
[ Michael  Mar 27, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
I'm afraid the Focal ES 165K crossovers are not bi-ampable. If you'd like to discuss further, please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat.
[ Larry  Apr 06, 2018 ]  Staff
Q
can they be hooked up with out the crossovers ?
[ rick  Nov 30, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
The provided crossovers are optimized for use with the component speakers so, while you can connect the midbass drivers & tweeters without the crossovers, it's certainly not recommended .
