Major upgrade

These speakers by themselves drastically change the way my car sounded. Woofer and tweeter combo is incredibly accurate while also providing impactful midbass. The price is high but once installed you'll understand exactly why. The only complaint I have is that these speakers stick out slightly further than the OEM speakers, meaning that they actually touch the door when put back together. So I only knew that it was an issue after I had cleaned everything up, then having to take the doors back off and trim down portions of the panel to get rid of the vibrations. I just wish I had known beforehand so I didn't have to do the whole process basically twice.
Pros: Sound quality Shallow door fit Relative installation ease
Cons: Instructions don't mention panel trimming.

Good at First

At first these speakers were amazing. Clear sound, easy enough installation, made to fit my car, etc. I had to get different speed clips because the speed clips that came with the speakers were a hassle to use, but with the right speed clips (120HWP0001 - Metra-HWP-0001) these were much easier to install. About 3 months after installing the speakers, one of them started having a static issue when playing mid-range notes. It will still play the notes, but they're fuzzy. I was enjoying the clarity of my music until the static issues started. I have JL Audio speakers for my rear doors that don't quite fit as well as these for my car and they were much more difficult to install, but they sound much better.
Pros: Easy installation with the right speed clips Made to fit my car
Cons: Speed clips that came with the speakers are pointless. Use the speed clips in the review. Started having static issues 3 months into ownership.

Major sound upgrade

Couldn't ask for better speakers, however, they need to be shipped with factory rivets, the hardware that comes with them will not work unless cut into the lip inside the factory speaker hole, I recommend using as much hushmat as possible to avoid rattles.
Pros: Exceptional sound, bass is much better than stock, overall easy install
Cons: Needs to be shipped with factory rivets to avoid having to cut the inner lip out of door!

Definite upgrade, ALMOST bolt in
Nick from Seattle, WA on 2/19/2017
2017 Volkswagen Jetta
The focal 165vw speakers are a compatible replacement for both the front and rear doors for a 2017 Jetta se (without the fender system). They are "bolt in" except the speakers come with screws and clips that are useless. Instead you should use (not supplied) rivets to install the new speakers just like the factory ones were. Also the speakers are slightly thicker so they push against the door panel and create a buzzing noise (on both the front and rear door panels). This can be solved by removing the sticky foam tape around the speaker hole on the door panel, using a dremel to cut off the protruding part of the plastic ring and tabs that are underneath/adjacent to the foam, and then reinstalling the foam. This gives you the clearance you need without blemishing the door panel.
Pros: Easy to install and the door panel/old speaker instructions were great. Manufacturer wiring connectors and bracket holes were spot on. These speakers will fit both the front and rear doors. (2017 Jetta SE)
Cons: These speakers stick out just a bit more than the stock ones, requiring slight trimming of the interior door panel (you can't see it) to get the clearance you need. The screws and clips provided were useless. Use rivets.
