Toyota practicality

You were already thinking smart when you bought your Toyota, but now Focal gives you the smart way to upgrade your factory sound. The IC 690TOY 6"x9" component speaker system fits perfectly into the factory speaker locations in select Toyota Prius, Camry, Tacoma, Tundra, and FJ Cruiser models. Focal has engineered a more compact tweeter to ensure a fit with your choice of mounting hardware, along with built-in crossovers that maximize speaker performance in your Toyota. The package contains almost everything you need for a quick, easy installation, including brackets for mounting the tweeters in the factory locations.

Signature Focal sound

These highly efficient speakers will make the most out of your factory radio's power output, giving you precise sound, free of false coloration. They also handle up to 75 watts RMS, so they will soar with some serious power from an outboard amplifier. Your music's midrange will gain presence and depth, thanks to the articulate response of the light woven fiberglass woofer cone, the same used in Focal's premium Access speaker line.

Focal also puts their signature inverted dome tweeter design to work here to give you sparkling highs. The inverted shape of the aluminum dome does a better job of dispersing high frequencies than a traditional raised dome tweeter and creates a very wide soundstage with stellar resolution and exciting dynamics. Best of all, the plugs that you disconnect from your Toyota's speakers plug right into your new Focal woofer and tweeter — no wiring cutting required!

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Easy install and huge sound improvement

Clayton from Victoria, BC, Canada on 8/21/2019

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great and easy install in 2017 Tacoma. Crutchfield says that it will not work but that is completely false and they should update the compatibility chart. The tweeters come with appropriate brackets to mount into the existing dash location and the front door speakers are an easy swap out. As for sound, they are a significant improvement over the stock non-JBL speakers. Night and day improvement.

Pros: Easy Install using existing bolts, etc Great Sound

    Cons: Price

    2018 Toyota 4runner install

Unamplified sound better than stock but not outstanding. Be very careful when assembling the provided tweeter bracket as the tweeter magnet will pull metallic objects into the cone and crack it like an eggshell. Also be careful when handling the tweeter wires as the solder may break on the smaller wire. The driver and passenger Toyota brackets are oriented in opposite directions. In order to align the Focal tweeter assembly with the circular opening in the Toyota plastic grill, the Focal tweeter assembly should be in the same "U" direction as the Toyota bracket. Driver side installed well. Passenger side Focal tweeter assembly screws did not line up and required some force to secure. In addition, the passenger side tweeter angled slightly towards the windshield. Crutchfield advised "the orientation of the tweeter really isn't that important in car stereo environment. The sound is mostly accomplished by refracting (bouncing) the sound around the inside the inside cabin anyway. If you're really concerned about it, the Focal bracket is pretty easily bent to accomplish the angle you want, but the overall impact to the sound is minimal." I ended up removing the passenger Toyota bracket and bending the tweeter mounting points to get a better angle. Finally, when installing the tweeter assembly be careful with your wrenching to avoid cracking your windshield. In regards to the 6x9, just be careful not to tighten the screws too much as the Focal mounting points will crack.

Pros: Easy install except for passenger tweeter.

Cons: Passenger side tweeter not a perfect fit. Unamplified sound is better than stock but not outstanding. Instructions not specific to 5th generation 4runner. Watch YouTube videos to get a better idea before starting the install.

Install was EXTREMELY easy. I don't even think one needs directions. Speakers sound a lot clearer and more detailed than the factory ones. There are A LOT better speakers but the price and the ease of install of these is why I went with them. Decently better than stock but I will be adding an amp soon. Overall for the price I think they're worth it for the quality and installation ease.

Pros: Ease of installation. Sound quality.

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed these to replace the factory speakers in the front door as well as in the dash of my 2019 Tundra double cab with the Entune factory head unit (not the JBL system). Despite Crutchfield listing this item as "does not fit", both the tweeter and 6x9 door speakers absolutely fit perfectly in the factory spaces. I provided a picture of the tweeter and as you can see the provided bracket bolts directly into the factory space. I forgot to take a pic of the door speakers before I replaced the door panels but trust me, they are an exact replacement/fit for the factory front door speakers in the 2019 Tundra double cab. One issue that did arise with the provided factory plug adapters for the tweeters is that they did not account for the retention clip on the factory harness and I had to trim away from the bottom of the provided adapter to avoid making any permanent changes to the factory plug, but it worked (also pictured). As far as sound is concerned , there is a noticeable improvement in the quality of the higher notes from the tweeters but since I am still running them with the factory system i cannot tell a huge difference in the door speakers, hopefully installing a aftermarket amp will make more of a difference. $300 is a little steep for what they are but the plug and play nature make that price a somewhat easier to stomach when it comes to the ease of installation, but these should be around $200 really. Overall seem like quality speakers.

Pros: plug and play and direct fit for 2019 tundra, improved sound quality over factory speakers, extremely simple installation

Cons: expensive for what they, factory harness adapter requires modification to work

I installed these into my 2015 4Runner. I have many years of experience upgrading Car AV systems and I have to say these were by far the easiest speakers I have ever installed into a car or truck. In fact, I allowed my 9-year-old daughter to take lead on the install and with the help of the Mastersheets, she did a great job with a little bit of guidance from me. Sure I did the heavy lifting of popping off the door panels and stuff, but she was the one following the instructions and telling me what to do. The only part she had trouble with was the tweeters since they were a hard reach for her, so I did those myself without much hassle. The tweeter brackets are painted black on the ones that I received, which was great since I read on some other reviews that they would reflect the sun in 4Runners which was not so fun. Sound quality wise, I have them running off the stock deck and man they sound so good. These are a huge upgrade from the stock speakers. I went from High-Low-Mid settings that were all over the place to sticking them at neutral, they sound amazing! Even with the OEM head unit, these things hit pretty low and you can feel it in some songs. As good as they sound with the stock head unit, I plan on powering them with 50watts from an Alpine amp soon. I can't wait to hear them after giving these things more power. While the price is a bit hard to stomach, you are definitely paying for some high-quality speakers and sound reproduction from these

Pros: Great Sound Quality Good Bass from stock power Super Easy Install

    Cons: High Price

Easy Install - Glad to ditch the factory speakers

These speakers were installed into a 4th Gen 4Runner (2008 sport) with only slight/easy modification required. For the 6x9 I had to unwrap some of the factory wiring tape so that the wiring and connector could reach the speaker plug. Alternatively, I could have used the supplied speaker post connector to reach the factory harness but I preferred to install will fewer connections. The tweeter physically fits but the kit does not include a connector that matches the factory harness for this generation of 4Runner. I simply cut off the connector from the factory tweeter and installed onto the Focal tweeter. Only trick was differentiating positive and negative wires on the tweeter - the wiring is unlabelled with only wire color to differentiate. Researching on the internet from other modified installations, I wired copper to (+) and silver to (-). I am not completely certain on the polarity but that is what I went with. From there on the installation was simple, the supplied bracket perfectly fits that factory installation points. I would recommend considering painting the tweeter's the shiny brass bracket black as it can be seen through speaker grills. For door installations I would prefer not to see the brass bracket through grill. For dash mounts, it causes a reflection on the windshield on sunny days. Sonically speaking, I was hoping for better sound but I will be installing a kicker key 180.4 amp soon. Currently driving with Pioneer AVIC 8200 NEX h

Pros: Easy install Easy to modify for 4Runner 4th Gen install

Cons: Hoping for more sonic performance after amp installed Pricey

Insanely Great Running Straight From Factory HU

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

If I had to sum these speakers up in two words: Insanely Great!!! I purchased the lower priced vehicle specific speakers by Power Bass for my Toyota Highlander running them on the factory HU with no amp. The original Toyota speakers were louder and brighter. (I imagine with an amp they would have been better.) So I decided to exchange the Power Bass speakers for the Focals. I did another A/B comparison replacing just one side at first. The difference is insane! The Focals are putting out sound so crisp it's hard to describe. And you can get this without an amp. I cann'y wait to hear them with and amp eventually. Others rated them well but complained about the price. Take it from someone that did A/B comparisons on both speakers that Crutchfield sells for Toyota's. These are well worth the price and so easy to install. Took approx an hour for total install.

Pros: Crisp and Bright Sound direct from non JBL factory HU. Quickest best upgrade you can do to your sound.

    Cons: NONE!

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Even though Crutchfield recommended against buying. This speaker does work in my 2012 Camry SE. The tweeter doesn't just drop in, needs to drill new holes in order to secure properly. The woofers also need new holes to secure properly. The speaker connection is as expected plug right up. As far as performance goes, this preform far better than stock speakers and you have tons of clarity all the way to max volume. I paired the with the IC 690TOY for the rears which needs modification to the baffles in order to fit. I recommend against buying the either in the camry because the factory location in the rear is not a true 6x9 hole. There's two straight edges on the long side of the elliptical that doesn't allow for the focal speakers to fit. Once modifications to the baffle (plastic piece surrounding the magnet on outer edge) the speaker is too tall. It was a struggle in putting everything together.

    Pros: Sound quality Build quality

Cons: As expected new holes are needed in order to secure speaker Price Maybe. Considering you don't need adapters they are right on the money. But at first glance you feel that your paying alot.

The stock stereo in my 2017 4runner TRD off road sounded pretty muddy. No real highs or lows were present, it was just a mid range mess. I have plenty of experience building home audio loudspeaker enclosures but very little knowledge of automotive audio systems. I knew that I wanted the system in my truck to sound accurate and powerful like what I enjoy in my home audio. For those reasons I chise this plug and play component set from Focal. I have a few more steps to complete before I will call it a complete system, but I began with front doors by installing sound mat to the inner side of the door skins, sound deadening foam to the surface of the door behind the door panel, and intalking the 6x9" woofer from this set. The tweeters went in dash locations. All of it truly was plug and play and could not have been simpler. They sound amazing. The highs are crisp but not harsh, so not fatiguing. And finally bass that can be felt. I will be including a subwoofer in my build, but I would bet that many people would not find a sub necessary after installing these, as they dig down pretty low. All of this is distortion free on the factory head units power. It simply doesnt push enough power to cause the focals to distort. Up next? Rear focals, processor eq, amps, subwoofer.

Pros: Drop in install, no cutting of factory wiring, amazing difference from factory speakers

Cons: Pricey, but probably THE BEST upgrade you can find for 5th gen 4runner stereo upgrade.

This is a great kit for my 4Runner. The door speakers are a breeze, no cutting, no messing with wires, just plug and play. My one an only reason for the 4 star is that the tweeters in the dash were not quite plug and play. They weren't difficult, but did not just drop in like the door speaker did. However, the truck has MUCH better sound (did the Focal in the rear door too - IC 165 toy I think).

Pros: Super easy install, Great sound, would recommend and would buy again.

Cons: Tweeter not quite so plug and play, expensive.

Good improvement from the stock speakers in my 2012 Sienna. I think I might have had my hopes too high, though. I don't feel they sound better for the price than running off the factory head unit with no amp. The tweeters are too bright for my taste, and the bass response isn't as solid as the factory 6x9s. Outstanding product. They sound great and installation was a breeze in my '16 4Runner Trail. The hardest part of the install was breaking loose the bolts holding the factory tweeters in their brackets; they likely had some kind of loctite on them. I kept the factory head unit and notice a remarkable difference in sound over the cheap, paper factory speakers. If there was a comparable product from Focal/Crutchfield for the remaining speaker locations in the vehicle, that would have been the direction I took. In absence of that, I went with Focal ISS 130 in the rear doors; while slightly more involved than this product to install, they we're still very easy to get in place and are a nice compliment to the 690TOY setup.

Pros: VERY easy install & great sound

Cons: No similar product for other locations in the vehicle

These speakers are great OEM upgrades, however to get their full potential you will need to crank the volume over 50 and my car max out at 63. (these can handle 63 with no problem, but they rattles my doors when playing rap and hip/hop) would definitely be getting a 2 channel amplifier later on. probably be looking into getting the Focal IBus 2.1 once they are avalible.

Pros: Big difference compared to stock speakers They actually do hit pretty hard when you crank them up

Cons: Drilling out the OEM rivets took the longest time (broke two drill bits) Need a rivet gun to install new speaker The screws and clips they sent me wasn't of any use due to the speaker holes are too far away from the edge. Maybe a 1" screw clip might solve the problem. Didn't measure the distance

2016 Toyota 4Runner. Wasn't happy with the stock speakers. After doing my research, decided on these Focals for the plug and play feature. Provided instructions and a few online videos were enough to bring the confidence level up to removing the front door panels on a new vehicle. Speakers plugged right in, holes matched up perfectly, and filled the speaker cavity just like the originals. I am able to max the volume on the factory head unit with no noticeable distortion. Nice bass, clear definition in conjunction with the tweeters. On that note, one of the tweeters was intermittent. Notified Crutchfield and they provided a new one. Installed in less than an hour with common hand tools.

I was on the fence if these were worth the price. These sound great. Much better than the infinity kappas in my other vehicle. These are not plug n play for my truck. Called the tech and he was nice but couldn't figure out why they sounded terrible. My conclusion is the factory amp wires directly to each speaker and has it's own crossovers to match the factory speakers. These have their own crossovers so they were getting double crossovers blocking out a lot of sound. Wired them directly to the new head unit and they sound great. So you have to wire them to an aftermarket deck or amp if you have the jbl system.

Pros: Significant sound improvement accross all frequencies. Sound is clean and clear, not bright, not dark.

Cons: These are not plug n play for the 2010 tacoma with jbl system.

After owning this vehicle for a month I realized the factory system sounded very dull and muddled. I was originally planning on some Polk or JL components for the front doors and dash. After talking with Crutchfield advisors, they pointed me to these Focal components. They were apparently designed specifically for Toyotas. The benefits of these speakers were a seemless plug and play installation. They fit perfectly, and absolutely no wiring issues. All the adapters hooked up very easily without stripping a single wire. The additional install pages sent by Crutchfield on how to take the door panels apart were a huge help as well. The speakers truly sound amazing. Very clear and bright and don't distort when turned up. I am strongly considering replacing the other speakers now as well. I will still probably add a small powered sub down the road but these definitely hit harder than the factory speakers ever did. Very happy with this purchase and my Crutchfield service.

Pros: Very easy install. Superior sound, exceeded my expectations. Everything remains factory clean as far as install.

Cons: These where more than what I wanted to spend but I needed speakers that would fit correctly. The instructions from Focal on the tweeter install in the dash where very vague. I realized how to properly use the brackets( both of them) after I had done the first one wrong. This was an easy fix and didn't take long.

Awesome speakers! They sound absolutely stunning compared to the junky (non JBL) stock speakers in my truck. Only minor modifications needed to hook the tweeter up to the stock wiring harness meanwhile the 6x9 hooked right up! I am powering these speakers with a Pioneer gm-d1004 amp and they just sound wonderful!

    Pros: Quality speakers! Easy installation.

Cons: Installation instructions they come with are useless. Tweeter harness connector did not fit stock harness and had to be modified.

This is a great plug and play upgrade for a variety of Toyota models. I'm thankful they put in the engineering to properly match the speakers and crossovers in an OEM type package. The Focal kit includes everything I needed for a professional installation. No worries about connectors, brackets or speakers not fitting. You can expect noticeable improvements in clarity and detail over the stock speakers.

Pros: OEM fit and finish, sound quality and included all necessary hardware.

Cons: You need a drill (pliers help too) to remove the factory door speakers in some Toyota models. Thankfully Focal provides you with the replacements and Crutchfield supplies a pack of screws and brackets as an alternate option. These people know how to take care of their customers.

After doing a lot of research I realized this would be the easiest way to up grade my car audio. The stock audio system has some strangely placed crossovers and makes any other option very difficult and more expensive than it needs to be. Thankfully, Focal created a very hearty plug and play upgrade. Immediately after installation the speakers sounded much more clear and the high end no longer sounded muddy and muffled. I cannot wait to break these speakers in.

Pros: Ease of install. Sound Quality. Customer Service through Crutchfield

Cons: I probably need some extra power to truly get the best out of these speakers.

I put the speakers in a 2011 Camry XLE and they sound fantastic. I can max out the volume on the factory stereo with no distortion. Installation took only 30 minutes.

    Pros: Simply awesome sounding speakers

Cons: Wire harness supplied didn't match factory harness for tweeters. With a little trimming on the factory harness it went together fine.

These do indeed fit Toyota tundra double cabs (2013). Crutchfield has these as not compatible but they absolutely fit my truck. The install took about an hour, but only because the supplied "plug and play" tweeter terminal clip needed to be swapped to the existing stock tweeter clip. The one in the box was a different type. Speaker depth and supplied brackets were otherwise a perfect match. Sound quality is significantly better. I am not pushing them with an amp but the bump in clarity and rich sound is phenomenal. Amplification would be a bonus but not necessary at medium to moderately loud listening.

Pros: Easy install. Fits tundra. Massive upgrade in sound

Cons: Supplied tweeter clips not compatible (need to be swapped for the existing or re-soldered).

I was instantly attracted to these speakers since they were a FOCAL brand and a true plug and play for my 2010 Toyoda Venza. The price was scarring me away for a while, and then I decided, what he heck, I plan on having this car for years. I bought these speakers and I must say, even though all of the info I read said it would be an easy install, I was hesitant because I have been through installs too many times to find issues. This was not the case. Speakers where installed in a half hour, and I can't believe the sound quality I am getting from them when only throwing 45 watts rms to each speaker. No buyers remorse here. these speakers are worth the money. they sound so good even at a higher volume, and the base hit so hard in my front doors, that I decided Against adding a sub. If you have a Toyoda these will fit into - Buy them, you won't regret it!!

Pros: Sound Incredible - very balanced - best speakers I have owned yet. Very easy install - Plug and play. Hits so nice in door panels, a sub is not needed for low end fill.

Cons: Price a little scary at first - until you hear them.

This is NOT a plug and play by any means for a 2015 Toyota Tacoma. I was told by Focal it is but come to find out the plugs supplied do not match up with the factory plugs. The instructions from Focal are of little help. I will have to cut factory wires and make my own connectors. The speakers do fit, just a mess when it comes to wiring. Have not reviewed the sound yet as waiting for a damaged tweeter. Thanks to Crutchfield who is sending replacement tweeter. Glad Crutchfield has a wonderful customer service team otherwise I would have sent everything back. But very disappointed in Focal.

    Pros: Crutchfield is great

Cons: Focal needs to update their Plug and Play with correct fittings and better installation instructions.

Bought this for my 4Runner which has the factory stereo system (non-JBL). The woofers came with Toyota-compatible speaker mounts and were easy to install. The tweeters took a little more time to install. The result? Much improved sound over factory speakers! (Currently using a sound setting of BASS -2 and TREBLE +1.)

Pros: - Sound quality: A great improvement over that of factory speakers without needing an amplifier. - Easy to install: No speaker mounts or wiring harnesses needed.

    Cons: - Not cheap.

Woofers were easy to install. Reused OEM screws didn't need the screw pack and harness Crutchfield sent, thanks anyway. Tweeters were another story, had to disassemble the plug and reuse the wires in the connector Focal supplies.

Wow were these easy to install. Instructions said i would have to drill out rivets from the stock woofers and use rivets to install the new woofers. Well didn't have to cuz the stock speakers were bolted in and i was able to use the said bolts to install the new ones also. Tweeters went in just as easy with the supplied bracket. The hardest part was figuring out how to take off the door panel. All done in less than an hour. I could do it in less than 20 minutes now that I know how. Sounds good so far with the stock head unit. Maybe there is a amp in my future.

Pros: easy install, good sound so far

    Cons: none yet

    Features

Woofer: The light and rigid woven fiberglass woofer cone is humidity resistant. The rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: Because the tweeters include no grille, the IS 690TOY should only be installed in applications where there is a factory tweeter (with a grille).

Wiring: In most installations the IS 690TOY is designed for, the factory wiring harnesses plug directly into the woofer frame and one of the included tweeter wiring adapters.

This setup is designed to be 4 ohms and your amp will not see 2 ohms.

Not 100% on this but a refrence mount speaker is actually two speakers wire in parrallel also so Im guessing no impedance drop. Plus the built in crossovers delegate power accordingly. Theyre not a huge power handling speaker anyway but sound good with what they can take.
    [ Bulls Bridge  Jan 22, 2017 ]

The tweeter is isolated by a capacitor so it's impedence is not seen by the woofer. 4 ohms...

The speakers are definitly an upgrade to the factory speakers. The 6x9 door speakers provide plenty of mid bass without an amp (Kenwood after market). The tweeters were not quite as bright as I thought Focals would be. I think the issue may be the location of the tweeters in the dash. Overall, I am satisfied.
    [ rob  Apr 01, 2016 ]

i have the non jbl system on my 06 4Runner. I used a 2 channel amp to power the speakers. You just wire the tweeters directly to the 6x9s the cross over is built into the 6x9s. The sound is incredible. You'll need to turn down the highs a little, the tweeters are so good they can pierce your ears if you don't the treble down a little. This was one of the best purchases I made. For my whole set up. I did the 690toy, a 2 channel amp, and an aftermarket headunit. I couldn't be happier.
