2014 Silverado upgrade

Crutchfield customer from White Bear Lake, MN on 9/12/2019

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I replaced the door speakers in my 2014 Silverado non-Bose system. The dash speakers are tied to the front door speakers. Once I replaced the front door speakers my factory dash speakers came to life. I am not running a amp but these things are working wonderfully. I also use Focals in the rear doors and Focal tweeters on top of the dash tied into the factory 2 3/4 inchers. I'm impressed which isn't easy. So the moral of the story is... Go with top notch speakers.

Pros: wonderful response. Great range even without a amp. Can't beat the price.

Cons: nothing

Outstanding clarity

Great budget stock replacement for Lexus/ Toyota. They can be loud but what's great is how much more pure the sound is over stock. Less noise and distortion. Lots of clarity in voices for podcasts and voices. Of course, this is dependent on the quality of the audio. Specifically the GX470 but I believe the 4Runner and Tacoma are very similar. With the provided adapters they fit great. It might have been better with an additional gasket since I used the spacer but no big deal. It's just that rattles are evil and must be prevented in the future. A little glue helps hold the gasket in place for assembly. Also a great time for a deadener like Damplifier Pro. The plastic water barrier can be carefully peeled back and a few pieces easily applied. You have to cut to fit around the side impact bar but it can be done well in less than an hour per door. Just have spare clips on hand as they break easily. I recommend the ones with gaskets to avoid rattles. Yilushun makes a very affordable 100 pack available elsewhere. Hard to believe but the GX can get even more quiet! My only regret is not going with the Toy690 Focal offers. But I saved a couple hundred dollars or more.

2nd set of these purchased from crutchfield. They sound great both with and without an amp. I tried them before i amplified them and knew i was going to be super happy with my purchase. I have them in my 2018 F-150 Super Crew, bass thumps out of these plenty hard and unfortunately they do such a great job i will need to invest in some deadening for my doors. Good problem to have. Can't go wrong with these focals.

Pros: Quality for the Price Point. Great with or without amplification.

Cons: NADA yet.

Excellent upgrade choice

Crutchfield customer from Wilmington, NC on 4/28/2019

2005 Toyota Camry

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Shopping for speakers was very confusing until I found Crutchfield, the professional advice help me choose the right combination of speakers for my needs. The speakers are for my wife's Toyota Camry, I wanted quality and true sound without elaborate modifications. The focal speakers performed beyond expectation, and the peripheral installation material was a great help. The speakers have appropriate range and proportion for the type of music we listen to (60's-90's), granted we don't listen to heavy base beats that is popular with younger generations. The focal speakers are designed to work with factory equipment, an excellent choice for consumers who appreciate good sound without going to extremes. The real magic comes from the Crutchfield advisors who cut through all the noise and marketing hype.

Pros: Quality and balanced sound, works with factory equipment

Cons: Instructions and provided material are very helpful, however every car is unique and installation will require some level of modification and installer skill. Read a few reviews from DIY installers, if you perceive the complaints as valid the project will be beyond your skill level, if you perceive the complaints as whiny you will have no problem.

Purchased for 2018 Nissan Frontier Front Door Replacement. Install was total of 20 min. max per door and installed with no issue. The speakers sounded good on the factory radio and I was very happy. After a week I amplified the speakers and found that the sound quality was great and again I could not be more satisfied with my purchase. First replacement speaks I was able to utilized with or without amplifier and have great sounds quality either way.

Pros: Easy Install, sound quality with or without amplifier

Disappointed

2017 Ram 2500

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I purchased these along with a focal component set. These were installed in the rear doors of a crew cab truck with 75 watts rms coming from a JL Audio XD 1000/5. The sound from these is not on the same level as the ps130v1 components I have up front. I didn't expect it would be but figured they would at least provide a mid bass kick. Honestly they really do not. Ive experimented with crossover settings and I do have the foam fast rings. My end opinion is simply I regret purchasing them and I don't recommend them. I have had $60 Pioneers that sounded better. They will have to do until I find a replacement for them.

Pros: None

Cons: muddy and unclear with lacking midbass. Not on par with my other Focal speakers

Incredible Clarity, Non-existant Bass

Peyton L. from Wake Forest, NC on 2/1/2019

2011 Toyota Corolla

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

If you like bass these speakers alone will not do the trick. However I have a jl audio w7 subwoofer in the trunk and I was looking for speakers that could complement this and I think these are perfect! In terms of clarity they are incredible and I am hearing sounds in songs that I have never heard before. However when I turn the power to my sub off to hear the speakers alone the bass is almost nonexistent. For me this is perfect because I have ample bass in the trunk but these speakers will not be sufficient by themselves if you enjoy bass as I do.

Pros: Clarity

Cons: No Bass

Very happy with these. Put them in an 18 F150. Build quality seems great and they sound great. I know these are the lower end of the Focals but installed in a metal door in probably the worst acoustic chamber possible (a vehicle) they really shine. Anything more more would be a waste. Great focal sound without the huge focal price.

These were an upgrade from the factory speakers of my Honda Accord. I have a Pioneer MOSFET receiver @ 22 watts/channel RMS. I listen to a variety of music and talk radio also, so I tend to keep the EQ flat. I thought my stock speakers were pretty good but I wanted more detail out of the listening experience. The Focals gave me that, and not just in the way I expected. Where the stock speakers made everything sound pretty good, the Focals exposed deficiencies in the source recordings. Now, it's not just about the music, but it's also about the quality of the recording. My first impression with these speakers is they are very punchy, especially when there is a snare drum beating. In the beginning, they seemed to lack low end bass, but now I think it's just the quality of the recordings I was listening to. These characteristics are especially apparent on the 70's music channel from SiriusXM. I've found that well-produced CDs showcase what the Focals are capable of in the bass department, and I am very satisfied with them. I ordered a subwoofer system to provide more low end support for those recordings that need a little help and to compensate for road noise. The Crutchfield website didn't show me these speakers with my vehicle selected. I used the undermount spacers that came with them as lift rings, they are a little larger than a quarter inch in height. I top mounted the speakers but I don't use the supplied grills, I use the factory Honda ones.

Pros: Budget audiophile features

Cons: Useless installation pamphlet

Great speakers with some awesome bass. I currently have then paired with an Alpine HD149BT and everyone thinks I have a small sub. Truth is, there's no amp, no sub. I love these speakers. Easy installation due to the shallow depth too.

Pros:

Cons: Crystal clear with great bass and midrange.

In 2011, I installed a pair of Clarion SRQ6932R speakers I bought from another retailer into the back of my 2004 Sebring convertible and thought that they sounded pretty good. This year, I checked out several sites to find a better speaker. I'm driving these with a 60Wx4 JVC amplifier I installed in 2012 along with a JVC head unit I purchased from Crutchfield. However, after installing the Focal ISC 690's I was wrong. These speakers have not only amazing bass reproduction but also a very well balanced and clear high and mid-range. I believe that the high range is due to the ability to modify the focus of the tweeters. These speakers actually took up less room than the Clarion's. I have to say that this amazed me considering the amount and quality of sound produced by the speakers. Sadly, I am going to have to replace my Pioneer TS-G971M front speakers as the Focal's out produce them badly and the sound image is biased to the back. So, the good is I love the Focal's and the bad is I have to buy more Focal's? I'm thinking I'm better off with another set for the front!

Pros: Awesome sound reproduction. Easy installation. Great for my amp.

Cons: I'd say price but you get what you pay for?

Features

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter is angled and rotates on its post, so it can be pointed toward the listeners.
