About the Focal Integration ISS 130

Audiophile-grade engineering

Focal applies the same technology they use in their studio and audiophile-grade home systems to their Integration line of car speakers. The Integration ISS 130 component system includes 5-1/4" woofers with cones made from Polyglass, a material that combines the warm sound of cellulose with the strength of glass, so they'll play accurately with no added resonances.

Focal ISS 130 5-1/4" 2 way Component Speakers

You can use this angled tweeter mount to improve high-frequency dispersion in problem vehicles.

Adjustable tweeter

Each separate Integration processed aluminum inverted dome tweeter features a built-in phase plug and wave guide, which act together to increase the power of high-frequency notes and improve the stereo soundstage. Focal includes a low-profile surface mount and an angled mount so you can set up the tweeter for the best possible imaging in your vehicle.

Built-in crossover networks

The crossover networks are built-in, so you don't have those extra boxes to install. Low-profile Integration speakers allow you to put Focal sound quality and construction into your vehicle, so you can enjoy a dramatic jump in performance over your old speakers. Grilles are not included; factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Woofer grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Speakers good, attaching hardware is not

Darin from Puyallup, WA on 7/21/2019

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Sound quality of these speakers is about as expected for the price. Nothing special. You definitely want to run them with true woofers and/or a sub. The baskets are plastic not metal which was a bit of a surprise. What was disappointing was the mounting hardware. After a month of use, one woofer began to sound like it was blown. Crutchfield fortunate is a Focal dealer and promptly shipped out a new set. Upon disassembling the door, I discovered that 3 of the 4 screw mounts (included with the speakers) had sheered in half. Definitely odd especially considering I sealed the speakers direct to the door panel with silicone in addition to the provided mounting hardware. The speaker was being held in by only one screw. Since I wasn't entirely sure the speaker wasn't damaged, I replaced it and tested the replacement. Upon using the new (provided) attaching hardware, one broke. I've done a lot of installs in my days and work on computer hard drives as a profession. I understand torque. The screw was not over-torqued. Just cheap attaching hardware. My recommendation is to buy these speakers but use your own, more substantial attaching hardware. Also, Crutchfield rocks! Their customer service and technicians have never, ever let me down. I've purchased from them since the 80s.

Pros: Speakers good for the price , if on sale Tweets are amazing if staged correctly Included high passive cross-overs

Cons: Base response of woofers is more mid-range Awkward wiring - no option to tie-in tweets Plastic baskets have a cheap feel regardless of sound quality Could use cross-overs for woofers to avoid damage Mounting hardware is inadequate - buy your own

Great set for the price. Super clear sound with out amp. Broke in for a few weeks then put 45 watts rms to them and wow they woke up. Sound is great and would put in any car. But do sound good with out a amp. The highs are so good. Just what i was looking for.

I guess they sound ok...kinda disappointed to tell you the truth. The mid bass is not capped so I will have to do that before putting anymore power to them. Also, nowhere in the instructions does it specifically say how to wire these into stock configurations. I just spliced the mid and tweeter together from door wires.

Such clarity, if you use your cars OEM deck, it'll enhance that wonderful white noise fuzz you get from pushing it. A little lacking on the bass side but if you have a sub that's no problem. Even without a sub they're worth it. The Clarity is not touched by many other speakers I've heard

Started off just with the speaker installed and no tweeter running off my factory receiver. It really didn't sound that good at this point. Figured out how to install tweeter with some research and tech support and big leap in performance! Two weeks later I had a new aftermarket amp And it even got better! Still playing with equalizer to get it right but you can tell this speaker can do anything. Bass you won't get but that's because these speakers aren't designed to do that. It's meant to be accompanied with a subwoofer.

Detail and clarity

Stephen from El Dorado Hills, CA on 9/18/2018

2005 Saab 9-2X

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought these with the coax speakers for the rear doors on sale and was initially unimpressed immediately following installation. I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel like my critical listening skills are above average. Initially, the speakers sounded extremely bright and lacked even the low end grunt of the cheapo factory speakers. But after making adjustments and giving them a few hours to break in (if that's even a thing in car audio), they really started to warm up to my ears. They really do deliver a noticeable detail and clarity that wasn't present before. With the proper adjustments throught the head unit, they can deliver respectable bass as well. I think I'll probably add an amp in the near future and see if I can improve things, but for now I'm quite cntent.

Pros: An undeniable improvement over factory speakers.

Cons: They might leave you questioning whether you should have ponied up for the next level in the Focal lineup

Good speakers, not as much low end extension as I expected from Focal. I bought them to replace the stock speaker for the rear doors. I think they will respond to more amperage. I prefer the other Focal speaker I bought for my front car doors.

Pros: nice large magnets, and decent cage.

Cons: Would benefit for more mounting holes, like some of the other Focal car speakers.

Perfectly balanced sound stage.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I wrote a review on the ISS 690's before I installed these. Still powering them from the Alpine UTE-62BT. As a set, and just being powered by 18w/channel 50 max, I have to say the sound stage is impressive. They'er a perfect compliment to each other. Precise clean sound that doesn't really have a range that overpowers. Well balanced between high mid and low with an emphasis on clarity and accuracy. I'm very impressed with the sound given that it's such low power and just a receiver amp. I'm excited to give these some real juice.. These may not be for everybody though.. I really like a more natural balanced reference sound. If your looking for something with heavy bass and a mellower high range you may not like these.

Pros: Sound clarity and well balanced sound stage. Great sound even with low power.

Cons: Being nit picky again. But these are really so good that I have to be to find a flaw. The installation equipment could be better. There was a crossover for the tweeter, but no wire to connect the woofer..

Sound great. Much better improvement over my JBL speakers. Running a 100x 4 amp must put RMS power into these. They do handle over RMS but the tweeters are overbearing. But 70w rms going into them the sound quality is fantastic. Recommend these 100%

Pros: Great sound.

Cons: Had to shave brackets too get them into my eclipse. (We're not recommended to fit in my car by Crutchfield)

I'm a professional audio engineer, and do pro audio consulting/tuning and studio work for a living. Focal was the obvious choice.

Pros: The detail is fantastic. The crossover built into the cable makes install easy.

Cons: If you're looking for a smooth sounding speaker, this is not it. The detail is great, but it very often comes off as harsh, and it makes the faults in speaker placement and car acoustics very obvious.

Love these speakers, was the final touch to my system and complimented everything nicely. These speakers are great when powered with a speaker amp and provide great high and mids, however do not expect much out of the low end, these speakers best work when pair with a subwoofer. The best part to these are the intigraded tweeter that focal has designed for a straight plug and play. Overall i am extremely happy with my purchase and once everything was tuned in, I can clearly hear my music with the top down in my jeep. Crutchfield has some amazing advisers that helped with the purchase and selection of my speakers, and even were willing to help me when i had a question about wiring my amp. Thank you Crutchfield for all you help!

Pros: Clean Crisp Sound, Easy Install with integrated speakers

Cons: No cons, after speaking with the Crutchfield advisers i was very confident in my selection and happy with my overall purchase.

Definitely pumped up the highs. However, thats a mixed blessing. Tweeters sounded shrill in my 2002 Subaru WRX wagon, so I cut the gain. Sound is overall clean, middle to high mids sound good.

Pros: Fairly clean, improve as volume goes up. Didn't need to max out with JVC kw-v340bt head unit (22 watts) to get decent sound.

Cons: Tweeters shrill to my ears, in my application, but once I trimmed the gain was okay. Low mids are clean, but not substantive.

Solid sound from these using 75wrms from a Sound Ordnance 4 channel. Made the fronts in my Jeep TJ not just audible but loud. Great sound with country, rock and metal. Clean tones to the ear with minimal distortion. Could use a better crossover or would be good on an active system with knowledge and time to do so. Does not respond well to lower frequencies.

Pros: Highs are crisp and mid sounds are strong and warm. Great if on a high pass filter.

Cons: Crossover is not great and the set doesn't handle lower frequencies well.

I was Skeptical installing these speakers with a stock radio "8.4AN RA4" without an amp but am I pleased with the results. First I mounted the woofer in the stock position but I elevated the tweeter to the triangle door piece that is the first piece you remove when taking the door skin off. I used the angled cone not the flush mount. then I put the Focal ISC 690's in the rear door and then I used the JBL club3020 3 1/2" in the corner dash positions. I must tell you these puppies sing. They are clear at low volume as well as cranked. I must say that I'm mainly a classic rock Guy with some country, Pop and metal mixed in. These all sound terrific. I'm not a Rap kind of guy and I don't have a subwoofer but for me these are clean and your able to differentiate between the instruments and vocals. I'm thrilled with these speakers and can't wait till they break in and really sing.

I can't take all the credit, working with Norm made it absolutely easy, yes.. their was some modification neseccesary but minor compared to the excellent modification that we set out to complete, modify a 20 years old stereo speaker system, and replace them with ISS 130's. The replacement of the original speakers with these Focal's allowed the true sound to be brought back from many years of loss highs and lows. Very impressive and enjoyable ride.

Fantastic sound. Put these in my dash and the ISS165 set in a sound bar I custom built in the back of my 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Powering them with a 4 channel Alpine. Even in something as acoustically unfriendly as a TJ the quality of sound I am getting is jaw dropping. Don't expect big base, but then if that's what you are looking for you probably shouldn't be looking this direction anyhow. Great speakers. Very pleased. These speakers sound great. Very rich soundstage. I have them hooked up to an Alpine MRV-F300 and the sound is impressive. These speakers need an amp. For those that say they are lacking in bass, these speakers wont produce ground shaking bass but the bass is very clean. Make sure you set the hp crossovers right and the bass in my opinion is great. Buy a sub if you want bass. I had them hooked up to just the head unit and they sounded good but when I wired them to an amp it's like night and day difference. Thanks crutchfield for such a great product and service that is second to none!!

Woofer

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Phase Plug: The bullet-shaped phase plug in the center of the woofer ensures a smooth, flat off-axis frequency response by preventing the high frequency sound waves emanating from one side of the cone from interfering with sound waves from the other side of the cone.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Tweeter

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.

Mounting Options: The tweeters include two types of surface mount housings, one low profile and one angled:

Flush Mount Low Profile Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.3" 0.894" 1.933"
Mounting Depth 0.55" 0.875" (screw depth) 0.875" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 1.871" 1.88" N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.67" N/A N/A
Width N/A N/A 1.895"
Surface Depth N/A N/A 2.839"

Crossovers: The included 19" tweeter wires have integrated crossovers. The tweeter ends of the wires have quick-slide terminals that easily connect to the wires soldered to the tweeters. The input end of each wire has three leads, a negative and two positives. The positive leads are labeled Car and Display, with a lower output level from the Car lead (useful because the placement of the woofer in a typical car installation requires the tweeter output be lowered to maintain a balanced sound).
