Really great radio to use in emergencies. Easy to use and rugged and reliable.
Pros: All you could ever imagine in an emergency radio with transmitter and microphone included.
Cons: None that I can think of. What more could ask for in a affordable radio from Crutchfield.

Read and Save Operation Manual

Upon receipt, I quickly went through the instructions and thought I understood the operational procedures. However, I discovered the Midland XT511 to be a complexed unit requiring careful reading of the instructions which were excellent, clear, and concise. I can now enjoy listening and using the device in a multitude of functions. Thank you for providing this unique item at an affordable and reasonable cost.
Pros: Product delivers as promised. Antenna receives Short Wave, Weather, FM, and AM clearly.

Hand held to base

I needed a unit for the farm that we could leave on in the house. This AC powered fit the bill plus when power fails it makes a great remote unit! Mostly it is used for our sons to report and keep in touch with their hand helds. Tractor issue while bush hogging no long walk back,Dad dispatched. Mom worried about the youngest exploring the back 40 she can "reach out" and safety check. During a really bad storm neighbor checked in because we know each other's channels just in case. In this part of TN cell phones are unreliable holler to holler. This is a reliable backup that makes a base unit for handhelds. Cannot begin to tell you what an upgrade it was from the old leave a hand held behind. Better reception and true AC power. Works from inside our home fine and all over 120 acres in the wooded hills here. Crutchfield shipped fast as always and I couldn't be happier.

Nice compact size with all of the features needed, and then some. So many that the menu is multi-layered and would be difficult to remember in an emergency without the owner's manual readily available. Seems to be reasonbly well- built for the price-point. It should be durable and protected from most hazards. Lightweight with the perfect carry handle. The dynamo crank charged the battery in an acceptable amount of time. Wishing that the microphone cord was 12 inches longer or that some sort of 12-24 inch extension was available! The only upgrade that might be usefull would be a built-in solar panel for charging. Nice product. I have a Midland CB radio that I bought in the mid-'80s. Still works like new!

Used as our main front end register radio to communicate with store personnel across a large local hardware store & lumber yard. We bought 2. They work great!
Pros: A nice loud speaker on the base unit and a PTT button on base unit - you don't have to use external mics unless you want to.
Cons: 1) If using an external mic - the received traffic is broadcasted via the external mic and not the louder base unit speaker. 2) The base unit does not use NOAA-NWS "SAME" technology for weather alerts.
