Great value for the price. My only complaint would be that you cannot shut off the color change, like select a color, or just cycles through them. And you cannot adjust the brightness of the LED, which makes it hard to see in full sun. Happy with the product!

Bad alternator whine with this one :-(
Steve from Lake Isabella on 5/18/2023
2003 Chevrolet Suburban
I bought this to replace a Dual unit that had a wonky volume control but other than that it worked fine. I installed this and as soon as I started the vehicle there was a pretty bad alternator whine coming from all of the door speakers. I then proceeded to try every trick in the book to improve the grounds. I also bought high end RCA cables and installed a noise filter, none of which helped. Just for the heck of it I put my old unit back in the vehicle and it still works fine without any whine, so I know that the Boss 480BRGB unit was either defective or maybe just very low quality. Either way it's not a problem with my installation. I'm going to try to return it, otherwise it's going in the garbage because it cannot be used like this.
Pros: cheap
Cons: you get what you pay for

Gets the job done; I got this to replace a factory stereo that gave out on me. Only complaint is that you're limited to 4 eq presets and basic bass/treble controls, so if you really want to tweak your sound, you'd have to look elsewhere. But for the price, not bad, and a couple of the eq presets are pretty good.
Pros: Can change illumination on unit to match your car's interior/dashboard lighting. USB for MP3s, aux input, and Bluetooth.
Cons: Lack of options for EQ

Crutchfield is awesome, service is wonderful. Good company to work with and they stand behind their products. However, this boss radio does not cut the mustard. I was cheap and bought the cheapest thing I could. Mistake, spend a little money and get something decent.
Pros: Price
Cons: Volume knob broke, almost immediately, dim lighting. I would not suggest going for the very cheapest option. I only did so, because I am getting rid of this vehicle. Love Crutchfield, have dealt with them before and they are awesome. However, this "Boss" radio is not worth the money. It is the lowest option for a good reason.

Fine Stereo, Mounting Screws Fell Apart Though
Re from Tacoma, WA on 12/21/2022
2009 Nissan Versa
A decent stereo, does what I want. The screws that came with it for mounting were useless and fell apart and I had to bore the holes on the radio open wider in order to use the slightly larger screws from my car's factory radio instead.
Pros: A major improvement over the factory radio from my car.
Cons: Mounting it was an annoying process. The threading on the mount screws it came with literally crumbled apart as I tried to screw them into the unit. It doesn't seem to get quite as loud as I'd like it sometimes.

1st gen(01-04) Toyota Tacoma Definitely get the pre connected wiring if you don't feel like doing it yourself. It shaves some time down. And so far this radio works perfectly So for Tacomas(idk about any other year besides my generation) use the stock bracket. With some grace you'll be able to put it on the Boss 480BRGB radio. See the photos below. The bracket Boss sends with it definitely won't work without some modifications. I pulled the stock bracket off and used the screws that came with the Boss radio to attach it. It won't sit level and is going to take some light work to mount it to the truck, but if I can do it so can you lol. The mic for phone calls isn't the best. Going to have my friend wire up a microphone for me like he did in his 4runner.
Pros: Loving the color
Cons: Mic for phone calls isn't the best

Good deal, but
Crutchfield customer from West Warwick, RI on 9/22/2022
2011 Subaru Forester
This was really a good deal for the money and installed easily. But.... after 3 months it seems to have some hiccups. When the color is changed to red, everything locks up and needs a reset. Other colors seem to work fine, hmmmmmm. Speaking of the lighting, the one fail in this unit is the backlighting on the most important part of the unit: The part that tells you what's playing etc. Can't be seen in the daylight, but the surrounding 'atmosphere' lighting is MUCH brighter. Not sure if my issues are what you get for the price or not.

STAY AWAY! DO NOT BUY!
Justin from KNOXVILLE, TN on 8/31/2022
2012 Mazda 2
Only gets 1 because the install was the only thing that worked the way it was supposed to. We immediately noticed that the screen is completely unreadable during the day. At night, it looks fine. We also noticed on the first use the USB door appears to be mounted incorrectly and feels like it's going to break off after a few uses. Both of these things we could deal with. But now, after slightly over 2 months of use, the radio randomly mutes itself and even tries to change the time on the faceplate. This makes it completely unusable as once you unmute it, it almost immediately mutes itself again.

Honestly, I'm disappointed. I wired the harness that I purchased with it exactly as instructed. I plugged the wire harness into the unit and all was well... for 4 minutes. After that, the display went black and would not come back. I've tried resetting, I've triple-checked my wiring, and I'm at a loss. At this point the only thing I can suspect is a bad unit. The sound is great compared to my old stereo, but its unusable without the display. I had a total of 5 minutes of functionality for my 2 hours of work. Hoping to get a refund or replacement for this. Overall, I don't mind Boss systems, I've had 2 for diffrent cars and both have worked fine, but this one is unusable.

Might die within a month or two
Crutchfield customer from Chicago, IL on 8/2/2022
2010 Toyota Corolla
This product died on me within 1 month of purchase. I checked the wiring harness, fuse, and speaker leads and no issue. The head unit will power on and have lighting but absolutely no audio output from any source. It's a bit disappointing to spend the time to install and have that issue so early. However, Crutchfield's technical support has been excellent and a new unit is already on the way after we determined that it was indeed a bad head unit. Hopefully the next unit will perform better, but my hopes aren't too high. For anyone looking into this product I would recommend spending a little more for a higher quality head unit. Crutchfield as always has been great on their end, but this head unit is subpar.
Pros: Crutchfield's technical support
Cons: Longevity of the head unit

Purchased this stereo for a 2005 Honda Pilot. I was blown away that Crutchfield included the wiring harness, trim pieces, and installation instructions at no additional cost to the sales price of the stereo. I paid extra to have them prewire the harness and it was the best money spent. The Boss stereo is so much louder and clearer than the factory unit. I will, and have already recommended Crutchfield to my friends.

Extremely entry level radio
Otto from Newark, NJ on 6/29/2022

First and foremost Crutchfield always does a great job at not only giving your everything you need to install but also excellent instructions on how to do it. This 3 star rating doesn't reflect how I feel about Crutchfield. The 480BRGB media head was very easy to install and it worked immediately after installing it. Unfortunately the operation of the unit is another story. The Bluetooth pair with an iPhone seems to be haunted. While listening to music it just randomly calls phone numbers in my phone book. So I shut the BT operation off. The USB port using my own music files (which is my primary reason for getting this device) works well but the buttons on the unit are a bit clunky. The biggest issue it navigating the folders in which the music is contained. You can simply switch from folder to folder. The units OS makes you switch folders 10 songs into each folder. So if you make 10 folders (each being an album of music for example) when you switch folders it will be in the middle of the folder and you have to remember where you are in the file system. The Boss 480BRGB sounds fine and has lots of EQ and preset sound adjustments to fit your needs but don't be too picky at this price point. For what I paid I fine with this units short comings but if Bluetooth operation is why your buying this find something else.
Pros: Lots of preset and manual sound adjustment options. USB automatically finds your music. An equal value at the price point Very easy to install
Cons: BT is possibly possessed by Satan (might be a plus if your into that) Buttons feel cheap and clunky USB/mp3 file navigation is a pain Included remote works intermittently

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
I did purchase the stereo for my 2005 Hyundai Elantra. And of course all of the necessary adapters did come with my purchase. My only complaint about this stereo is the fact that I cannot use my iPod in the USB drive. I just got a hold of crutchfield technical support, and was informed that the USB port will only support flash drives and such. This is fine, I will use the USB port to keep my iPod charged, then I will use an auxiliary input to control the iPod music through the stereo. I did pair my phone with the stereo. I was able to stream Pandora from my phone through the stereo. I was also able to make and receive a phone call using the stereo. I am not sure if there is an internal microphone, or if they use the speakers as microphones. Either way, it seems to work well enough.
Pros: The installation was easy enough. The sound coming out of my factory speakers seems to be cleaner.
Cons: As mentioned above, the USB port on the stereo can be used for USB drives or for charging only.

Install was okay. Reception is very poor even using long distance setting. The brightness of the LED readout is so dim I can't read it and I can find no way to increase the brightness. I didn't expect anything great from a cheap radio, but this is beyond bad. I'm seriously considering sending it back and telling them to just keep it.

This radio did NOT fit my 99 Chevy Silverado as stated on the website. The body of the radio fit the opening but the face of the unit was about 1/4 inch too tall to fit through the dash trim on my truck. I bought this for the price and my first one worked for a few days then started being really weird. It started making phone calls to random people and would turn off and mute itself. it was weird! So I called Crutchfield and got a new one and it's worked great since until recently. Now I have a problem where my volume knob doesn't work anymore and yes I've reset it multiple times and the same thing happens. So I would not recommend this product. Try something else.
Pros: Cheap, easy to install, has really cool features, fast pairing.
Cons: Both of my units have had problems, the microphone that it comes with is trash and Bluetooth calls are near impossible

Nice radio for a good price. I Installed it myself with zero prior experience and it took maybe 40 minutes. Agree with previous comments about the screen being a little hard to read- Cyan and White work best during the day. Made a huge difference for me with Bluetooth audio since I have a 2004 CRV. Also highly recommend getting the ReadyHarness service- worth the extra cash if you don't trust yourself with wiring yet lol
Pros: Easy installation, readyharness was perfect
Cons: Plastic buttons not designed to last forever, screen a little hard to read in direct sun.

Finally taking the plunge to replace my factory 2007 head due to the death of an aux jack.. really who uses CD's still? Anyways, has a good sound. Not going to break any windows with it but it's loud enough to get you groovin. Much more modern sound than the museum piece i'd been rocking. Display is a bit dim, and if you're like me you're going to wonder how to change the screen colors because the manual is the polar opposite of intuative.. just hold the button in and cycle until you see the word AUTO.. rotate on that one, problem solved. I kept it green.. can see that any time of day.

No biggie because I drive a truck for work so I am used to no rear speakers anyway but the kids aren't happy. The receiver been in use less than five hours and now the bottom half of the screen display quit working. I just hope the top half does not break or I will have no clue to what the heck is playing. Am I happy? No but I don't want to deal with replacing it just yet. Just expected more from Crutchfield.

I checked all wiring and periodically it will provide output (sound). unfortunately, since I ordered it before Christmas, we are past the 60-day return. I cannot find on Crutchfield's website where to send the unit under the factory "3-year warranty". Please provide warranty information on your products. No, I don't want to call and talk to anyone. When you consider the price, the ease of installation and moreover, the ease of use... this is the perfect choice. We were not looking for lots of bells and whistles. In fact, we were trying hard to avoid them. This was a gift for Mom, and we wanted a clean, easy to read face, with simple navigation. And thats what this BOSS brings. The FM tuner is clean. The AM is unfortunately a little weak, but passable. The USB drive is easier than CDs. If straight forward and simple is your wish... then this is the unit to get.
Pros: Easy install Easy operation Clean sound
Cons: AM is weak
