Ouststanding value.
Jesda from SAINT LOUIS, MO on 2/23/2021
Connects to bluetooth immediately. Plays songs from my 32GB thumb drive quickly and flawlessly. Excellent value. The pros outweigh the minor cons.
Pros: Pros: Huge improvement in clarity over the stock stereo. Large display with easy to read text. Decent power with minimal distortion. Buttons use a firm but very satisfying press. Blends into the Mazda 2's dashboard quite well with a large center volume knob that makes it easy to adjust sound with my wrist on the shifter.
Cons: Cons: No dimmer but the display is adequate during the day without being too bright at night. It doesn't read song titles or ID3 tags but does show the file name for USB input. Bass is in the somewhat boomy mid-low range. Fake spectrum analyzer animation is slightly annoying. At initial startup it pairs bluetooth right away but also changes sources, so if you were listening to FM or USB last time it switches to bluetooth on its own.

Invest $20 More dollars for a better system
Ammar from WAUKESHA, WI on 2/16/2021
2006 Lexus ES330
You get what you pay for. Display is dim and hard to see in the morning. I always have to use cyan or yellow in the day, as its the only thing you can see in the light. Bluetooth link is strong, when i start the car in the morning, it stays connected even if i go 15+ feet into my basement. But if you turn off bluetooth, its a pain to relink, constantly looks for pairing but never really works, usually have to restart car and rest my bluetooth on my phone. I have 2 12" subs linked with a Rockville db12 amp, works fine but there is a large volume increase from 29 --> 32, which is the sweet spot for undistorted music. If you are looking for a quality Double Din Radio, look a little deeper for $20 more. Otherwise, great for a budget build like mine
Pros: Plays music Bluetooth picks up immediately, when you start car Skip, pause, and mute easily accessible on face plate 3 preset EQs 4 pre amps for subs or RCAs
Cons: Dim colors in light Volume Knob comes uncentered Mic is mehh.... Controls are very sensitive

I'm happy with what I paid except one thing and believe it when the reviews say it. The AM radio is trash and essentially doesn't work. It bleeds and never fully locks onto a channel. Everything else is great at this price no complaints. FM, USB, BT, and line in all work fine for the price with prewired harness. The BT mic did not seem to be a problem for my phone but does not sound great. I use the CYAN led color because it is the only one that displays well in day light. I used a Dremel to cut down the bezel on the Ranger and bought the prewired harness. Easy!
Pros: Cost
Cons: AM

2004 Honda Civic
I had the Sony CDX-GT565UP on my 2004 Honda Civic EX Sedan. It has a CD player, Radio, USB audio, and Aux jack. The one thing that I needed the most was a Bluetooth audio stream. $60, I pulled out the old radio and replaced it with this one, the BOSS 480BRGB Radio. I tested the Bluetooth and it worked! Audio quality, not so great. Radio, it only picks up static. No CD player, but I never use it. Only thing I cared about this was a volume nob and Bluetooth Audio stream. The best part, it automatically connects to my phone when I start my car. I love it and for the price, this gave my old car the major feature it needed.
Pros: Bluetooth Audio stream (auto connect on start) Volume Nob Physical buttons USB Charging
Cons: Radio has bad reception No CD Player Bad Sound quality (I don't really care for this in a car though...)

A Neat Upgrade That Doesn't Break The Bank
Richard from CORAL SPRINGS, FL on 1/9/2021
2013 Nissan Cube
I bought this radio in an effort to upgrade the audio functionality of my 2013 Nissan Cube. The stock radio was fine, but it lacked Bluetooth (I don't wear a headset when I drive and sometimes I take work calls in the car). The installation was really easy. The master sheet that comes with the package made putting the radio in a snap. I did have to make some grooves in the corners in order to make it fit, but one it was in, you weren't able to see the dug in grooves. Which, by the way, if you're doing a similar install, the grooves are super tiny (1/2 to 1 mm in size). It works well, it's fun to look at, and is kind of a blend of old school meets new school with the digital readout and the analog volume knob. The EQ on this is preset, so you can't pump up the bass (that's why I deducted a star) the "Rock"setting is the setting with the most bass, and every other setting has flat sound, so stick with the Rock setting with the "Loudness"setting set to "on". The Bluetooth on this model works well enough, but sometimes you have to reset your phone or unpair and repair in order for it to catch again. The remote on this thing sucks (second star off). I assumed that this package came with fresh batteries, but even out the box, the range and the amount of pressure you have to exert for the remote and radio to interact was ridiculous. Stick to changing the radio manually. There are better radios out there, but this is a decent buy for a low budget.
Pros: Fun to look at. Economic. Decent sound
Cons: Crappy remote. Can't set the color on the radio. No real EQ settings to speak of.

This review is more for the service than the radio as I just installed it in my son's car. My family was thrilled and amazed when the installation was complete so quickly and with virtually no swearing, something unique for when 'dad' grabs his tools... The de-install/install instructions were clear, concise, accurate and easy to follow. But the real bonus was the "ReadyHarness" service. It saved a lot of frustration, swearing and time: I'd recommend it to anyone.

For the money, you just can't beat it. Everything I needed to put it in my Tacoma. Hardest part was getting that darn clock bezel out of the old unit. I'm not some hi-tech audiofyle...I just needed a bluetooth stereo for my truck. Don't need a lot of options or a pounding bass line or 120dB blaring at me. Great no-frills unit. If I had a gripe, and this is just nit-picking, I wish the display brightness could be changed. I did however find a way to work around it...I use the red display for night time, and the cyan for daytime....voila!
Pros: Inexpensive, sounds good, looks great, easy to install
Cons: display brightness not adjustable (but workable)

Like the radio. Pairing with phone was easy. Having some slight feed back in the speakers when increasing RPM. Not sure if it is the radio or wiring interface issue. Bought radio more on certain features and price point. The remote isn't working but that isn't critical to me.

Cons: Slight feedback issue, remote doesn't work, wish I could turn off equalizer bar lights and wish clock would remain shown instead of return to the source

2011 Ford F-150 XLT
When my stock f150 radio finally died, I began researching the cheapest option for a replacement radio. I read quite a few negative reviews about this radio, but for the price alone I needed to give it a try. Installation was a breeze with the correct wiring harness and antenna adapter that Crutchfield recommended. As I mentioned above, this radio is cheap. You will not have all the fancy bells and whistles of the more expensive radio. But this radiO is exactly what I needed. Pros : Cost Bluetooth Clear radio reception Ease of installation Cons : Doesn't display radio information (for example when listening to 98.5 The Sports Hub it only displays 98.5) Doesn't display the clock (which I found extremely odd) While streaming Bkuetooth, the display shows BT (or something to that effect) and doesn't display any song information Doesn't work with steering wheel controls or the f150 SYNC All in all, I'm extremely happy with purchase. Price was right. Spent about $100 for the radio, wiring harness, antenna adapter, and the new dash trim kit. The Bluetooth connects with the phone lightning fast. I've had no issues with the Bluetooth cutting in or out. Even the range is impressive. When I remote start the truck, my phone connects when I'm roughly 30' away. Like the saying goes, You get what you pay for. This radio just works. If you can survive without all of the other feature intergration, this radio will work fine.

You get what you pay for. Better yet, you don't get what you don't pay for. My factory unit lights were dead so I wanted a cheap replacement. My pros are minimal things. The cons have greater consequences in daily function. Spend a little more money and avoid this headache. Seriously considering replacing this with my old Sony head unit.
Pros: -Bluetooth connectivity. -It works. -Display color choices.
Cons: -Very dim screen during day. -Screen will not stay on clock! It reverts back to whatever source is currently playing. -Can't use EQ & loudness at the same time. -Underpowered for phone calls requiring to crank the volume up to at least 25.

Great value. Reviewing low price products is hard. I needed a new radio in my 225k mile expedition but didn't see the point of sinking in cash. This product has drawbacks. No auto switchover to BT phone when navigating, it has to go on BT or it also silences your phone because it thinks you're on BT. No constant display of time, just the station. No dimming of display at night. But. Great value and great service support from Crutchfield, who cannot be faulted. Hey everyone, you get what you pay for! Don't expect $1000 features in a head unit at this price and then criticize it! All in all a good deal IMHO. And great back up from Crutchfield.

Unit is very cheap, and also very cheap. It does the job but its nothing fancy. I had Crutchfield make the wiring harness and it was poorly done. Two wires came apart trying to install it, also the piece called the CRUX was faulty. I had to call Crutchfield Technical support and run a 12V accy wire because it would not shut off when the key was off. I really do appreciate how helpful and patient the representative was with me. With that being said I really expected a better experience out of the whole thing than what I got. Do not purchase the pre assembled wiring harness, that is $ I wasted and should have just done it my self. I probably will not be doing anymore business with this company.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Cheap, poor sound quality and very bright illumination with no way to dim.

Warbling hum and wine. mic no good
Crutchfield customer from Brookhaven, MS on 10/27/2020
2005 Toyota Camry
I was really disappointed with this product. When installed, there was a warbling hum that when up and down in pitch with the rev of the engine. One minor plus, it made my car sound like a sci-fi spaceship, which my daughter enjoyed. Also, the built-in mic for hands-free calling was really bad. People could not hear what I was saying, which is the main reason I purchased. Also, the brightness of the display was VERY low. At night, the white and purple colors were beautiful, but during the day, it was very hard to read. I talked with customer service, and reinstalled everything, checked the grounding, reset the unit, and the only other suggestion was to buy a $50 noise reducer-- for this radio, no, no thank you. I am returning the radio for a better, yet more expensive, unit.
Pros: Nice choice of LED colors
Cons: Warbling hum and wine constantly Hands-free mic terrible Display not bright and no way to change

Awesome Inexpensive Radio

2004 Toyota Matrix
I got my daughter a bright yellow 2004 Toyota Matrix with 219,000 miles on it to learn to drive and be her first car when she gets her license. We've been fixing some things up, and one thing that needed a lot of attention was the radio. It has a simple Pioneer unit that had no bluetooth or USB connectivity, sounded awful, and wasn't installed well. After much research, I decided to try this since it was simple and inexpensive, and I liked the way you could change the colors to match the car or your mood perhaps. I got the radio yesterday and sat down inside to start figuring out the wiring. That part was super easy with the instructions included. I was able to wire the radio harness to the factory plug sent by Crutchfield so that all I had to do was plug the radio in. Once I figured out the proper way to mount the adapter and mounting kit brackets, I had the radio installed and looking almost factory in the dash. The features are great, but the sound is amazing. I really was very unhappy with the sound in this car until I got this radio. This pushes so much more powerful sound. The car sounds like a totally different vehicle. It's amazing how it doesn't even sound like the same car. The radio reception is better too. I can't overstate how impressed I am with this simple radio. My daughter absolutely loves it too. Thanks so much Crutchfield!
Pros: Looks great, very powerful, incredible sound, bluetooth, USB, simple operation
Cons: no external microphone for hands free calling

Great Bluetooth capability. I like the look and the light color options to match the car interior lights. Installed in 2006 Subaru Impreza. Easy installation. My daughter loves it in her college car. Highly recommend buying the Crutchfield ReadyHarness. Actually, I would say, do not think about buying a retrofit stereo without the ReadyHarness. It turned a potentially 3 hr project into a 30 minute project. Thanks Crutchfield!

Sean from Pittsburgh, PA on 8/29/2020
2003 Ford Focus
Radio does not fit with 2003 Ford focus trim. Trim needs to be cut and modified despite Crutchfield stating its compatible. You will also need an antenna adapter. The universal wiring harness is helpful. The master install sheet sucks is very generic and vague. The wiring guides are mostly helpful, but if you're unfamiliar with wiring, you may want to get it professionally installed. The DIN kit doesn't match up to holes very well. Havent completed install yet because of trim, will post second review of product when complete.

Very good radio at an unbelievably low price. This was a nice upgrade when installed in my 1998 Forerunner.
Pros:
Cons: The unit does not differentiate between BT and AM/FM when it comes to the power antenna. The antenna is up when the unit is on, regardless of the audio source. I would prefer that the antenna were only up when AM/FM is the chose audio source. The internal microphone is not great. You have to speak loudly to be heard when talking on the phone via BT, and even then you have to compete with background noise.

I bought this for my son's car, which is an '02 Alero and the radio size was large enough to fill the area. The harness that we bought made it easy to install. The only issue we had was the face plate that goes around the radio. Even though we bought the installation kit for the model of the car, it was a tough fit. We had to shave the outer part of the car's assembly to make it fit around the new radio. We were not able to use the face plate around the radio. It just delayed the process, but overall, we made it fit. So far so good!
Pros: easy to install large face plate easy Bluetooth connection
Cons: microphone on the unit, so hard to hear the person while driving the installation kit around the car's radio did not fit accurately

For this price you can buy a decent receiver with bluetooth without having to spend more and buy a microphone. Sound quality is decent but given the price is more than forgivable. Don't use the extra bass option as it muddies any music played. Sound quality from the microphone is good but you do have to talk really loud for the other person to hear you. All things considered, you can't get a receiver packed with this much stuff for so little.
Pros: Cheap Bluetooth enabled w/o needing and add. mic
Cons: Sound quality is decent Extra bass option sucks Gotta talk loud so the mic can hear ya

SOLID! Works like a charm and looks pretty good in place! Display is lackluster but forgivable for the price range. Installed in my 08 Trailblazer using the kit from Crutchfield and it went right in no issues! Loving listening to my Spotify when I drive now!
Pros: Bluetooth works great! Lighting is adjustable. Fits great!
Cons: Display. What you expect for the price. When using Bluetooth, the screen will literally only say BLUETOOTH on it the whole time. If you try to look at the clock by pressing the CLK button, the time appears for 10 seconds and then it goes right back to reading BLUETOOTH. Kinda annoying but not a reason I wouldn't recommend it.

You get what you pay for. Powers on, Bluetooth works, radio works. Only problem is you can't set the clock as your primary display, to check the time you have to push the clock button which would require you to take a hand off the wheel while driving. After about 5-10 seconds it goes back to displaying the source. Not the end of the world but it's an inconvenience.
Pros: It all works fine

Not bad, bluetooth issues
Daniel from Washington, DC on 1/9/2020
2003 Toyota Camry
Was looking for a budget radio for the second car and decided to go with the BOSS 480BRGB. The radio was easy to install and the sounded amazing. The main issue was the hands-free calling. I could hear the person I called but they complained that I was breaking up while speaking. I tried numerous people trying cell phones and landlines and all had the same complaint. Some other issues to be aware of, the radio does not dim when lights are turned on (unless Crutchfield wired the harness wrong, which I doubt), the Bluetooth volume is much lower than the radio volume so if you make a call you must remember to turn the volume down before ending the call or you could blow your speakers and there was minor noise feedback while using Bluetooth. Overall not a bad radio for the price Bluetooth calling is not important to you.
Pros: Music sounds amazing
Cons: Bluetooth calling

Bought this to replace failed radio in a 2005 Escape. Sound quality is OK. Build quality feels like a $60 radio. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and price paid. Bluetooth with built in Mic works surprisingly well. Double DIN Install kit from Crutchfield made install easy and radio looks good in the dash. Lots of backlighting colors to choose from to make matching existing dash lights pretty easy. USB and Bluetooth streaming music work well.
Pros: Cheap. Built In Bluetooth works really well. Easy install.
Cons: Clock won't hold time. Think it's something with my vehicle and not necessarily the radio.

2001 Isuzu Upgrade
Crutchfield customer from Pasadena, TX on 12/12/2019
2001 Isuzu Rodeo
works Very good, sounds Great, easy Bluetooth setup (no MIC setup required). Installation a little confusing- mounting brackets from factory receiver Have to be modified slightly and mounted on the BOSS. Nice fit once installed. The lack of detail on using factory Mtg bracket is only reason not getting 5 stars and lack of that knowledge from Tech. support; tech had never heard of this problem and no feedback. once brackets were figured out entire instillation with wiring was 2 hours, +/_.
Pros: Easy Bluetooth setup, sounds very good.
Cons: Good attitude but no help from Tech support and no follow up.Had to figure out mods on factory brackets myself.

Easy Install

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
This is a great radio and super easy to install. I put it in my 06 Silverado in about 15 minutes, with the harnesses completed by Crutchfield. Could not have been easier or faster. Very pleased to have all of the options in music connectivity and colors in the face plate. There is a click button but it would be nice if there was a way to make the clock the primary screen. But, not a big deal to me. It is also small enough with the lack of a CD player that I did not need to cut out the support bracket in my dash. Saved time and made it very easy. 10/10 would recommend for time and ease of installation.
Pros: Easy install. Easy connecting.

Quality BlueTooth Sound for the Price of a BlueTooth Headset
Crutchfield customer from Mundelein, IL on 11/7/2019
2010 Chevrolet Aveo5
For less than I have paid for some BlueTooth headset, I was able to get a new stereo that out-performs the Chevy stereo by lightyears. The sound is crisp and clear. Not to mention the added bonus of having a BT stereo in the car! No more adapters or wires, just play my tunes!!!!!!
Pros: Decent Sound and BlueTooth connectivity
Cons: There is not an option to turn the colors off. You can select one color, but there is no option to disable them. Not a huge con, but a con none the less.

Modern day transistor radio
Tony from Tullahoma,TN on 10/6/2019
2004 Mazda Tribute
This unit has all the desired modern features at a low price. Just keep in mind that you are buying Boss and not Bose. Easy to navigate. Syncs easily and reliably. Clock will NOT keep time. Resets to 12:00 every time you start the car. Finicky reception. Either picks up everything within 100 miles or nothing. You can clearly hear a phone call but they can barely hear you. All the audio clarity of a transistor radio. I have adjusted the settings numerous times to be able to listen to it but the sound is hollow. Would be perfect for talk radio or podcasts. The remote was dead on arrival. I bought this for a car I am flipping. Serves it purpose. Crutchfield value and customer service was top notch!!!
Pros: Price Options
Cons: Sound quality

2014 Jeep Compass
A good upgrade from my factory stereo that had no Bluetooth. The sound isn't perfect when on a phone call, you have to speak loud and clearly. Not all sound settings work with every song, I find myself changing it often to adjust the sound.
Pros: Bluetooth, phone calls, phone charging port, sleek flush look.
Cons: Sound quality off for different songs, when on call the other person may not hear you clearly, buttons are loud when pressing.

Secondly, I have set the clock on it several times, and as soon as I turn my truck off, it resets the clock, all other settings are fine.

Buy only if you want a disco in your car...
Arthur from Simpsonville, SC on 6/23/2019
2007 Ford Escape
Well, the first thing you should be aware of is that the backlighting on the panel switches color about every 10 sec. Amber, Blue, Green, Red... every 10 sec. That would have been a deal breaker for me, if I'd had known. Maybe another review mentions it, but the product description doesn't, so be forewarned. I installed into my daughter's 2007 Escape. Barely fits. The wiring harness they include for free doesn't fit the radio, but the one from the manufacturer does work. I'd already whittled the opening a bit for a previous install that failed after 2 years (not this model). But the side mounting brackets that come with the radio will block the HVAC vents, so can't use them. The freebie mounting brackets don't align with the screw holes in the radio, so I only got one screw in each side. But with the mounting brackets installed I couldn't use the radio's provided bezel, so the front looks a little sloppy. With the mounting behind me, the unit's sound quality is not bad, especially for the price. Functionality seems like it's decent - easy to set preferences and store stations. Would I buy it again? No, like I said, the light show is a deal breaker.

Not satisfied with this unit. It was inexpensive, but works poorly. Reception on FM stations is horrible (reinstalling the factory radio, and stations work perfectly). On this model, FM sounds like its coming from a cardboard box 900 miles away. Very very difficult to work the press, or press-and-hold style menu to perform functions like pairing a telephone to play pandora, etc. USB plug will charge, but won't play music like other models do.
Pros: It's cheap.
Cons: It's "cheap".

Easy to install in a 2007 Honda Odyssey with the Crutchfield wiring harness. My iPhone 6 connects to it everytime and the controls on the unit work with the iPhone as expected. The steering wheel controls don't work, but don't know if this is a wiring harness limit or not. Wished the light dimmed at night as it is very bright (red is good at night, but useless in daylight). Also, I wished the Mute button would pause the playback when streaming, esp audiobooks and podcasts. (I have not used it for phone calls.) With all that said, it does everything I really need it to and at a low price.

Great buy on a nice stereo system
Will from St Charles, MO on 3/24/2019
2001 Buick Century
First off, I am 56 and it has been a long, long time since I have installed a stereo. I have worked with Crutchfield in the past, but I have not bought a whole stereo setup from them. If ever I do a stereo setup again, I will buy from Crutchfield. My 17 old son wanted a new car intially. I bought him a 01 Century in Dec. '17. I said if you want a new car YOU need to buy it this time. Well, needless to say, he wasn't up for that, so he said if he can upgrade the stereo, he wouldn't mind keeping the car. I bought this Boss receiver and 4 Pioneer speakers for him. This old crate of a Buick is super easy to install a new setup in. I really like the idea of the speaker harnesses and the plug and play harness for the receiver. Life couldn't be easier with this setup. What is nice is the fit of the receiver in the dash is great and the Pioneer speakers fit under the factory grilles. Everything looks right!! So this is the boy's early birthday present and that is all he is getting from me :-). Now he has to hit up mom and girlfriend for anything else!!
Pros: Inexpensive gear, great sound. It is awesome that I paid this price. 35 years ago I paid something similar for a mediocre setup and I had to cut and splice everything together, this setup has everything I need.
Cons: I cannot say that I have any cons.

I actually give it a zero since it doesn't work. Had this radio installed today. It didn't even work. The tech said this is a common problem with Boss radios. Would have been nice to know before spending $100 to have it installed just to have it taken back out. Would also have been nice to know that I didn't need all the wires that were suggested I buy. It's unfortunate to buy your husband something as a gift and see his disappointment when it doesn't even work.
