    CarPlay & Bluetooth Integration

CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss Elite BE62CP. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss Elite BE62CP in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BE62CP receiver's 6.2" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BE62CP's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Boss Elite BE62CP. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BE62CP's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BE62CP's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BE62CP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the front-panel USB port). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • The BE62CP does not support Android Auto.

Bluetooth 4.2+EDR: The Boss Elite BE62CP is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss Elite BE62CP without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

    • Hands-Free Communication (External Mic): The Boss Elite BE62CP allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the BE62CP provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BE62CP allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.
    • Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss Elite BE62CP allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (no Album art). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boss receiver.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your Apple iPhone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple iPhone device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss Elite BE62CP will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    USB/SD/AV Connectivity

USB MSC Playback: The Boss Elite BE62CP is equipped with a front-panel USB (type-A) port that allows for connection of a USB mass storage class device; such as a USB thumbdrive (up to 64GB) formatted in FAT32. You can search by folder or file, control playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), well as view song/artist information - including album art. USB portable devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the receiver's USB port (5V/1.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: The front-panel USB port is not compatible with Apple iOS devices, Android devices, USB hubs, or card-readers.

When installing in a '04 Corvette, is it necessary to replace the OEM bezel?
    [ Craig  Jul 09, 2022 ]

The only way we found that a double din radio like this one can be installed into a 2004 Chevy Corvette is by replacing the dash bezel surrounding the radio location.

Sorry. I goofed on this one as this particular radio was installed on my girlfriends car and not mine. This does have back up camera hook up but isn't needed on her car. My Expedition has a different radio installed. Her radio is really nice. I like hers more than my Jensen CAR710
    [ Steve  May 16, 2022 ]
It sure does. I installed one on my Ford Expedition with this radio and with the big screen, it makes backing up so much easier. Very visible and clear. The back up camera I bought is a HD eRapta ERT01.

So my radio works normally with Bluetooth but as soon as I plug it in into the CarPlay the radio resets over and over and it doesn't connect it won't even show that it's on. I tried switching my phone settings and I even got a new cable for it and it still won't work. I have a 2006 ford fusion any help?
    [ Angelo  Mar 25, 2022 ]
    1 answer
I plugged my iPhone in and it connected immediately, no issues at all . Did you try the manual reset yet with a paper clip under the flap where the usb is located ? My thoughts are it's an issue with unit and needs to be swapped out . My unit still works perfectly fine except for a bit of echo when making calls via Bluetooth.

Can you wire subwoofers into this?
    [ Dillon  Mar 17, 2022 ]
    1 answer
Yes. The Boss BE62CP has two line-level RCA jacks SUB1 and SUB2. The manual lists a selectable low pass filter (LPF) frequency 50 Hz, 80 Hz, 120 Hz, or 160 Hz.
    [ JEFFREY  Mar 17, 2022 ]
Can you flip the camera? it is showing backwards left/right
    [ Brady  Mar 16, 2022 ]
    1 answer
No, the Boss BE62CP manual does not show any provision to flip the camera image. This is normally a function of the camera itself - typically you can flip the image by cutting or connecting a jumper wire on the camera harness.
    [ JEFFREY  Mar 17, 2022 ]
Can you change the color of the buttons?
    [ Seth H.  Mar 04, 2022 ]

    [ Wyatt  Jan 24, 2022 ]

My touchscreen radio "Tuner" is working. Can select the Tuner and change channels up and down with the touchscreen (without the iPhone connected). I just followed the wiring instructions to connect the unit to the car's wiring connectors. All the colors were exactly as in the instructions.

In the installation package it says it doesnt support touchscreen radio connection, do i need to get something else for this to work? (I have a 2005 mustang)
    [ Wyatt  Jan 24, 2022 ]
    1 answer
That means the wiring interface does not supply the extra wire connections needed to install a touchscreen radio. We have not found a second wiring harness for your vehicle that does supply those connections which means those wires must be spliced into stock wiring found elsewhere in the vehicle.

Hi; just double check and make sure your buying the installation kit for a double din radio you will also need and additional adapter if your car is equipped with the Mach 1 sound system

Sorry I got it for my daughter as a Christmas gift so we haven't installed it yet. I had a different radio that had apple CarPlay and it would play pretty much any app including Spotify and iHeart radio.
    [ Michael  Dec 12, 2021 ]
Yes, as well as other apps. Just do a google search for "CarPlay apps" for a list of compatible apps.

It works with the pandora app so I would assume it would work with spotify also.

After installation in my 2004 GMC Yukon Denali XL, I find that my volume is not loud enough for music or calls. What amplifier options are there for the Boss BE62CP? I'd like to buy an amplifier to remedy this option. My phone volume is all the way up.

In the settings menu you can adjust input volumes for phone, Bluetooth etc. they are not set to their highest levels from the factory

It may be phone dependent. I do not have any problems with it - using BT. But I usually connect via CarPlay, and then it works even greater!!

Search for wireless CarPlay adaptors to add this to your CarPlay radio
    [ Bill  Dec 12, 2021 ]
    Sorry, no it doesn't
    [ RAYMOND  Dec 03, 2021 ]
No, but the receiver does stream audio from your iphone and will host calls via bluetooth without being connected to a USB port supplied with the receiver. When you do connect it with the USB cable, the differences is that you get all Apple CarPlay features, i.e., iphone screen options appear on the receiver's screen, and you can control your iphone from the receiver touch screen, and by using Siri after pressing the receiver's microphone button. For this to work you must install the USB port and receiver microphone in the dash when you install the receiver.

I don't believe so, as far as I know, there is a wire for Apple car play on the back of the radio. I routed it out for easy hook up. That's how I do it.
    [ Robert  Dec 02, 2021 ]
No. Your phone needs to be plugged into the USB port.
    [ MICHAEL  Dec 02, 2021 ]
No, this unit only supports CarPlay wired via the rear usb

Is this a radio also or does it only play what is in your phone?

To be honest, we haven't tried it yet - I bought it for my son's birthday and we have not installed it yet! ?? But I am sure it does, can't tell you how well it receives/plays yet! What I can tell you is that the Crutchfield company was great to work with. Excellent customer support should you need it! Good luck!

Yes it is. This unit has great iPhone control, plus classic stereo features like AM/FM, built-in Bluetooth®, and preamp outputs for system building.

There is a USB dongle for CarPlay on the rear of the unit into which you plug a lightning cord Ito connect to CarPlay.
    [ RAYMOND  Dec 03, 2021 ]

Will this work with steering wheel controls on my 2006 Toyota Highlander?
    [ Scott  Oct 01, 2021 ]

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
