    Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Android Auto: The Boss Elite BE7ACP receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the Boss receiver's USB port via the the USB cable that came with your smartphone (a USB extension cable may be required and sold separately), plus be paired via Bluetooth (your vehicle's parking brake needs to be engaged to initially setup Android Auto). Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into a simple on-screen user interface. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Assistant: The Boss receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Boss receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Boss receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.

    • Make sure you plug in your Android smartphone to the BE7ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with a USB-IF certified cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and the parking brake is engaged. You will need to connect the parking brake wire of the receiver's harness to your vehicle's parking brake circuit for the head unit to recognize that the vehicle's parking brake is engaged.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone. You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.
    • Click here to learn more About Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible.

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss Elite BE7ACP. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss Elite BE7ACP in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BE7ACP receiver's 7" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BE7ACP's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Boss Elite BE7ACP. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BE7ACP's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BE7ACP's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your  thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BE7ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.
Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss Elite BE7ACP will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Android Auto compatible Android smartphone or Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.2+EDR: The Boss Elite BE7ACP is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boss receiver.

Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss Elite BE7ACP without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

Hands-Free Communication (External Mic): The Boss Elite BE7ACP allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the BE7ACP provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BE7ACP allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss Elite BE7ACP allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced  music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (no Album art).

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    USB/SD/AV Connectivity

USB MSC Playback: The Boss Elite BE7ACP is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port attached to the rear-chassis via a hardwired 8" pigtail (labeled "USB/Charging"). The USB port allows for connection of a USB mass storage class device; such as a USB thumbdrive (up to 64GB) formatted in FAT32. The unit supports playback of a variety of music, video, and photo files loaded onto a compatible USB msc device. You can search by folder or file, control playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), well as view song/artist information - including album art. USB portable devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the receiver's USB port (5V/1.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: This USB port (labeled "USB/Charging") is not compatible with Apple iOS devices, Android devices, USB hubs, or card-readers.

While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as the CarPlay and Android Auto.

i installed this camera for a boss be7acp and the view in the camera is great except it shows wrong side. what to do?
    [ samuel  Mar 03, 2021 ]
    2 answers
I assume you mean the camera is upside down. If that is the case there is a small set of wires on the camera. I think they are blue in color. Cut them in half and it will flip the camera right side up. There should also be a tag in the wires that say cut to flip camera or something along those lines.
    [ MARVIN  Mar 04, 2021 ]
I believe there's an option in the camera settings that lets you flip the view
    [ NATHAN  Mar 03, 2021 ]
Does the back up camera come ready to install or do I need to buy another wire harness?
    [ Matt  Feb 26, 2021 ]
    3 answers
I've installed this unit twice now, on my personal 2001 Toyota Tundra, and on my friend's 2007 GMC Sierra. In both cases, the camera setup was pretty easy to go, assuming you purchase the Ready Harness from Crutchfield. This is worth EVERY PENNY and makes the install a lot easier. We plugged it all up and it worked great on the first try. The only hitch was that in BOTH cases, I needed to add about 3 feet of video cable length to make it to the back bumper. This was easily accomplished by grabbing a spare video RCA cable and extension adapter (which I had laying around). The power cable that comes with the unit was long enough, but not the video.
    [ Cy  Mar 02, 2021 ]
    Yes it comes with everything
    [ ANGELA  Feb 26, 2021 ]
It's ready to install providing your vehicle isn't too long. I installed this unit in a Cadillac Escalade EXT, which is one of the longest vehicles on the road. I had to extend the wiring harness to get all the way back to the license plate.
    [ Stephen  Feb 26, 2021 ]
Is there a way to dim the screen or turn it off completely?
    [ Haj  Feb 22, 2021 ]
    1 answer
Yes - You can dim the screen down a lot, and you can turn it off as well. When it's in "off" mode, it shows the time and date against a black screen.
    [ Cy  Mar 02, 2021 ]
How bright is this unit at night? I assume there is a dimmer toggle, but wanting to make sure it's not extremely bright at night.
    [ C  Feb 17, 2021 ]
    1 answer
The system allows you to adjust the brightness overall and has an illumination control setting that adjusts for nighttime and daytime driving. I use it with car play almost exclusively and car play uses dark mode for the evening, so it works well for night driving.
    [ Cy  Mar 02, 2021 ]
can i listen to music while using navagation?
    [ Gene  Jan 13, 2021 ]

Yes, you can listen to music, podcasts, radio while using navigation via Android Auto Play or Apple's Car play. The unit doesn't come with a navigation app. You'll have to connect your phone and your default navigation will load onto the unit's screen.
    [ ALDEAN  Jan 15, 2021 ]
Yes, it mirrors whatever your phone is doing.
    [ KIM  Jan 13, 2021 ]
Yes. It mutes the music when nav is speaking, but then turns the music back on.
    [ JACOB  Jan 13, 2021 ]

Can I install apps (not using Carplay or Android Auto)? I want to use Torque Pro to monitor some stuff

I have had this product for quite some time now and to my knowledge, no you cannot.
    [ AGUSTIN  Jan 07, 2021 ]
Doubtful, but your Torque Pro App may be compatible with Android Auto and/or Apple Car Play. That is to say, the apps functions might be able to be mimicked through Android Auto or Car Play.

I have a Volkswagen Eos 2011 and was wondering if I only need to buy the stereo or do I need to buy mounting hardware with the stereo to fit my car?

If the unit says that it'll fit your car, it should come with the stuff to mount it. Now the only thing is that this unit doesn't have a satellite connection feature. If you want that find a unit with that company that has one. Best of luck. The best thing is to have a professional install it
    [ Michael  Dec 30, 2020 ]
I can't really answer that. I had to buy a new face place because I replace a single dinn unit. Just give them a call.
    [ KEVIN  Dec 29, 2020 ]
The product comparison charts show Carplay compatibility with 11ProMax/11Pro/11/XSMax/XS/XR/, However my I-phone 8 Plus is compatible with Carplay on my 2018 Chevy Suburban. I am wondering if Carplay on any of the aftermarket head units is compatible with my daughter's I-phone x?

I just had this exact stereo installed in my car last month, and use Apple CarPlay with my iPhone Xs Max. I would assume that as long as it uses a lightning cable, it should be compatible
    [ CHRISTOPHER  Dec 21, 2020 ]
As long as you have an iPhone 5 or newer, running iOS 7 . 1 and above, your phone will work with CarPlay.

Yes to a point, depends on phone and android update.

How difficult is this to install? Thinking of getting this as a Christmas present for my husband. There isn't much he can't do and uses youtube videos to help with things he hasn't done before. Wondering if he would be able to install it himself.

Hi, Depends on your car. Removal of the old radio and hole in the dash. Purchase Crutchfield made elect. plug to fit radio one end your car plug on the other. Alternate to Crutchfield is cut and solder speaker wires if you know where they go. Run coax cable for back up camera with trigger wire to radio. Connect Camera to backup lights for Power. Microphone for phone near the driver. Purchase USB cable with plug in Mount it so you can plug your phone in for using apple play or android auto. You don't need usb if for Blue tooth phone only. But Blue tooth wireless will NOT put Nav. Maps and Internet on the Radio screen. Update to Boss spec: Your Android phone Must be 6.0 O.S. or higher for Android Auto usage. Don't know about Apple phones. Contact Crutchfield and buy the required cables and such to get outfitted. Disconnect your Car's battery while removing old radio and doing new wiring. Expect several hours work to make this look like a factory install. Trucks are a bit easier to install it in. It's not hard just sweat the details as you are standing on your head and looking for a way to route a wire. Cheers and good luck.

My brother and I installed in my car. He is a car guy, and I'm fairly handy so it wasn't too bad. I highly recommend buying the ReadyHarness option. We spent 3 hours just soldering the wiring harness. With the ReadyHarness, it can be installed over a weekend day pretty easily. The camera did require some drilling in the trunk lid to get the wiring through and we ran it along the driver side rocker panels.
    [ KRISTOPHER  Nov 30, 2020 ]
Super easy,, it took me about 15 minutes total.
    [ DAVID  Nov 30, 2020 ]
If he has the same truck as me which is a 2005 Silverado 1500 it fits perfectly. They gave me mounting brackets that were adaptable to the holes in the head unit and mounting holes in the truck

Can I have the video for the installation please?
    [ JHAN  Dec 02, 2020 ]
Yes! At the camera, connect wire in video cable to red wire in power cable, connect black wire in power cable to suitable ground. At the radio, connect wire in video cable to wire labeled rear camera output, plug in video cable to radio. Camera is powered on and displayed when AXXESS GM Data Interface AX-GMCL2 provides reverse to camera, or when you want to view the rear camera.
    [ Peter  Nov 12, 2020 ]
Great Question. In order to have the backup camera turn on automatically, you will need to connect the reverse wire from your car's wiring to the PAC wiring that connects to your radio head unit. When you shifter goes in reverse, the camera will turn on automatically.
    [ MAURO  Nov 10, 2020 ]
Yes, there is a reverse power wire you need to connect that will sense when the car is in reverse and switch to the camera.
    [ STEVEN  Nov 10, 2020 ]
Installed mine the other day it does not automatically pop up. You would have to have head unit to rear camera then out in reverse and you can see behind you. Then switch back to radio etc
    [ GABRIEL  Nov 10, 2020 ]
I connected mine to the ODB port using the PAC. And yes it pops up automatically.
    [ Brian  Nov 10, 2020 ]
It can do both. Connect the power wire from the camera to the 12volt rear camera output on the audio unit harness and you need to connect the reverse wire signal from the car to the unit. With those connections it will either display when shifted to reverse or when the camera button is pressed.

Regardless, in order to run the camera line into your vehicle, you will need to make some entry pilot hole for the cable. It is possible on your make and model of vehicle that you already have a rubber gromet somewhere on the undercarriage of the body (such as drain plugs) that you can strap the cable safely and run a small hole caulked afterward via that gromet. With mine, I simply made a small hole behind the license plate, installed a gromet, caulked it all up nice and neat, and ran it through the hatch paneling, through the side interior paneling down the driver's side, and then under the dash to the radio area. Clean, professional and you could not tell there even was an install. As a side note, be prepared to add extra wire or look into VGA extensions. There simply is not enough wire to complete a hatchback install and run it all the way to the stereo. My install was on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer.
    [ michael  Nov 30, 2020 ]
I have no idea. If you order the pre made harness you don't have to cut or splice any wires. You might have to cut the trim from the faceplate but the instructions will tell you to do so if needed. It's pretty simplistic.

Does it come with navigation? GPS?
    [ Juanreyeste86  Nov 07, 2020 ]
    6 answers
No. Navigation only comes from the Apple Car Play or Android auto apps installed on your phone, when you connect your applicable phone into the proper USB dongle. (one is for charging only, the other USB dongle is for whatever phone mft. you have whether it be Apple or Android based)
    [ michael  Nov 30, 2020 ]
No but your smart phone can handle that. I'm using an iPhone and the CarPlay integration is great.
    [ Stephen  Nov 07, 2020 ]
No it does not. However with CarPlay I used Google maps on my drive today and it worked flawlessly. I love this stereo!
    [ ROSS  Nov 07, 2020 ]
NO, it uses your phone thru either android or apple car play for navigation
    [ MICHAEL  Nov 07, 2020 ]
No, but it has apple airplay and android audio
    [ RANDALL M  Nov 07, 2020 ]
It does not, however it does have the CarPlay features so it will mimic your gps from your IPhone or Android

Can you view the reverse camera image at any time without being in reverse?
    [ Jay  Oct 27, 2020 ]
    7 answers
Yes you can if the power is wired directly to the head unit. I have both a front and rear camera installed. With regards to the image being reversed, there is a setting on the radio to flip the image. It is awesome!
    [ ROSS  Nov 07, 2020 ]
Yes, just assure when it's installed it powered from an accessory power source. Key on Camera on, Key off Cameras off. Most people tap into the backup lights so the camera is only powered on when car is in reverse. But it makes no difference its what you prefer / want.
    [ Jerry  Oct 30, 2020 ]
    [ GREGORY  Oct 28, 2020 ]
    Yes you can
    [ DUSTIN  Oct 28, 2020 ]
    Yes you can
    [ DOMENICO  Oct 28, 2020 ]
Yes you can if wired correctly and you hit the camera button on the radio. I did however notice they the image is the opposite, the right side shows on the left and vice versa, I even spun the camera 180% and still the same.
    [ ANGELA  Oct 27, 2020 ]
So just wire the camera positive wire ( red ) to the accessories wire of the head unit. I just forgot the color of the accessories wire. Accessories wire is powered when you turn on the key.

Does the Android Auto USB also charge the phone?
    [ Hobowes  Oct 24, 2020 ]
    9 answers
Yes. They are clearly labeled and keep note of which is which because one only allows the stereo to use Android Auto/Apple Car Play and the other is only a charging port. You will possibly need USB extensions as well, and for that clean, professional look, a USB hub connector which provides an interface to plug into.
    [ michael  Nov 30, 2020 ]
It should, I have an I phone and it charges it.
    [ ANGELA  Oct 27, 2020 ]
Yes it does. There are two USB ports. Both charge your phone, but only one enables Android Auto/CarPlay.

Does the camera have active parking assistance lines?
    [ Dan  Oct 21, 2020 ]
    6 answers
Yes. Lines only which as previously mentioned, can be modified and/or adjusted to driver's preference.
    [ michael  Nov 30, 2020 ]
No, It's just Green, Yellow and Red distance markers. No beep warning nor does it follow the steering wheel. Most new car follow the projected path. Meaning if you turn the steering wheel hard right, the Camera pivots to show you the new projected path. Probably done in software by the car's onboard computer.
    [ Jerry  Oct 30, 2020 ]
The backup camera does have assistance lines. They are adjustable so you can change the zones to best suit your vehicle and risk tolerance. They do not curve with the turning of the wheel.
    [ KRISTOPHER  Oct 22, 2020 ]
Just installed and yes there are lines on the camera I am very impressed with the whole system

Will this unit enable SiriusXM? Is it included or does another device need to be added?
    [ Jason  Oct 09, 2020 ]
    3 answers
No. However if your phone has the SiriusXM app, and you are subscribed obviously, then you can simply use your phone to broadcast Sirius. I think the SiriusXM app will display in Android Auto and Apple Car Play but you will have to double check that for sure. If anything, you can always play the app via bluetooth through the bluetooth selection on the stereo.
    [ michael  Nov 30, 2020 ]
No it does not, you would need a separate device to get Sirius XM on this radio.
    [ ROSS  Nov 07, 2020 ]
Another antenna cable for the Sirius radio antenna.
