Boss BN965BLC navigation receiver

See things clearly on a 6.5" screen

The BN965BLC sports a big, beautiful monitor, so you can see the included maps of the United States (except Hawaii) and Puerto Rico with ease. And you'll have millions of points of interest to choose from when it's time for a break from the road. Pull up audio and video sources through the touchscreen, including digital files stored on USB drives or SD cards, streaming audio from your smartphone, a wired portable MP3 player, and good old-fashioned CDs and DVDs.

Included rear-view camera

The 6.5" screen also comes in handy for viewing images from Boss's rear-view camera, which comes with a license-plate mount. The image engages automatically when you shift into reverse, or you can access the camera's view through the stereo's touchscreen. You'll be able to see nearby car bumpers and other hazards lurking in blind spots. Once you're out of reverse, the stereo's display will revert to its previous screen. The BN965BLC includes a dedicated camera input and all the wiring required for installation.

Leading the way

Not only does the receiver provide accurate guidance, it helps you with text-to-speech voice prompts, which announce actual street names at turns. You'll hear "turn right on Montague Street," instead of "take the next right."  Lane guidance ensures you'll be in the correct position for your next turn, and you'll see 3D renderings of select buildings and landmarks for more assurance.

Hands-free calling and music streaming with Bluetooth®

Boss includes Bluetooth connectivity with the BN965BLC, so you'll be able to make and take calls using your compatible phone through the stereo. You can talk right through the built-in mic on the front panel, so your callers will hear you clearly. You can stream music from your smartphone, and control basic playback functions with the receiver's touchscreen.

Connections galore

The receiver's front-panel slot accommodates your SD card loaded with tunes, while the front aux in works with portable devices. A front USB input makes it easy to connect a thumb drive full of music, or you can jack a satellite radio tuner or other device into the rear audio/video input. A composite A/V output lets you send movies or other video content to external video monitors, so you can keep the backseat crew entertained. A full complement of preamp outputs includes a dedicated subwoofer out with low-pass filter.

Installation Note: The included backup cam has a 21-inch video cable, but Boss includes a 16-1/2 foot power/video extension cable. Please measure your vehicle, and call us if you don't think that will be long enough.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Installed this unit in my 2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab that I purchased used last year. I had Crutchfield do the pre-wired harnesses which saves time and since I'm not a wiz with wiring it made perfect sense. I read some reviews where people weren't satisfied with bluetooth and other features of this BN965BLC unit but I've been very happy. The GPS is a bit slow when initially turning it on but it does a good job when called upon. The screen isn't super bright and the GPS isn't exactly pretty but if it gets me to my destination I'm not going to complain. My truck didn't come with a backup camera so this was my main reason for replacing the base 4" screen that came with the vehicle otherwise it would cost me $1,000 to work with the Chevy OEM system just to add a camera. Can't beat the price and the Boss unit blows away the OEM head unit plus it was easy to install. This isn't my first time using Crutchfield and I doubt it will be the last because they are very professional, knowledgeable, and still competitively priced.

Pros: Much better than the OEM 4" display head unit plus the Boss is inexpensive and has lots of features.

Cons: GPS looks dated and screen isn't very bright.

Only had one question on a wire. Crutchfield answered promptly and install went smoothly. The head unit is a great buy, let alone the price AND a 3 year warranty. The most other brands give is one year, some 6 months. Wiring harness and instructions from Crutchfield was impeccable! Great company, Great products.

Pros: Boss was a great buy, great price

Cons: Had to contact Toyota to find the Reverse Gear wire to tap into.

This unit has a nice screen and the sound is much better than the nav. unit it replaced from a 2007 GMC Sierra, with Bose and OnStar. Bluetooth is nice, reads all contacts from phone Android. Radio station pick up only so-so for me, lots of static-but this could be due to my location which is 75 miles from a large city. So far I really like the unit, wish I would have changed out sooner.

Crutchfield customer from Flippin, AR on 5/14/2019

I bought this for the NAV program as I am a contractor bidding jobs all over. The display is too bright/washed out even when running in dark background setting. Night mode much better. You don't always get what you pay for. My phone has much better apps then this unit. I haven't been able to find a way to use the NAV mode without the radio on. Maybe I'll get more at ease with it in time. The customer service can't be beat. Love the Crutchfield.

Pros: Dash kit and wiring a perfect fit. So easy to install. I paid for the harness to be crimped for me. Only way to go.

Cons: Display too bright with little to no adjustments. Map information very lacking. Street names don't show until you can see the sign yourself. I bought this so I didn't have to use my phone. Still using my phone.

I bought this before reading some of the negative reviews on Amazon. I haven't had any problems with it. I'm not an audiophile but to me the sound is great. I installed the gps antennae inside the dash instead of on the roof or dash like the instructions say but it still works perfectly, the backup camera works turns on automatically when I put the transmission in reverse, just like it should.

Pros: Affordable with all the options I was looking for. Everything works just as advertised.

Cons: Instructions are HORRIBLE, especially for the backup camera. You might as well throw them away. Youtube will be your friend. The mounting bracket did not fit my vehicle but a little grinding with my dremel tool and an extra piece of metal as a brace solved that problem. Spring for the ReadyHarness. It saved so much time trying to figure out the instructions.

I was concerned that the wattage to the speakers would not be enough and I would have to get an amplifier, but once I got this installed I was amazed at the power increase compared to the factory stereo I replaced. Wasn't a huge difference but more punch and with the 13 band eq it really makes a difference in quality and the sound quality is definitely better. The backup camera was easy to install and the resolution is good. The touchscreen is responsive and easy to understand. I read many reviews on different sites including Crutchfield, Amazon and EBay before settling on this unit and I couldn't be happier. For the money, this is hands down the best buy on touchscreen navigation and comes with the backup camera which is an awesome bonus! The navigation is great as well, I was not able to mount the navigation antenna right away and had it stuffed in the side under the plastic by my feet but it still picked up signal well! That actually kind of amazed me, because I remember reading someone's reviews saying that you had to mount it outside the car to be able to pick up reception.. well, they was wrong lol

    Pros:

Cons: Wish there were more display options but not complaining

Pros: Very reasonably priced head unit that does all I need. Crutchfield was exceptional in all respects.

Cons: The Boss head unit does not dim at night with dash lights. I'm sure a more expensive product would have. On balance, a great value.

I got prices from locals who install this kind of thing it was close to $1500 ... I am a do it yourself kinda guy. Crutchfield was someone new too me, so at a price for the same thing at $350 it was worth a try. I AM BLOWN Away!! It is everything any manufacturer offers. That's a big difference. The extra purchase of the ready harness is an example of a company who has worked out the details for you. It has everything, every option the finest system has. You have to buy from these guys. Or pay 4 times more but your not getting anything better. Have a nice day!

    Good Budget Nav

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Bought this unit a year ago. Installed it into my 2002 Toyota Sequoia. Needed a backup camera and USB for my music. Bought this unit because double DIN fit exactly where the stock 6-disk radio was and had integrated Nav as a bonus. Installation was straight forward, although I had the backup camera professionally installed. Got wiring harness specifically for my vehicle which made installation easy. There are a few drawbacks to the unit and some finicky characteristics, but overall, it does what it's intended to do. The nav system has routed me across the country several times without any trouble and does local directions well too. Bluetooth connects easily with my phone, but the built-in microphone is hit-and-miss picking me up clearly. The radio display is easy to understand. The volume doesn't go down as much as I want it to, and there's either too little base or too much, so the sound quality is a bit lacking (with stock speakers). I may have to upgrade my speakers or add an amp and sub to make it better. It does play DVDs and videos off of USB and SD. The unit has blue backlighting for the buttons which are too bright at night. The screen does not auto dim at night, however a few taps turns it down or completely off. Overall, I am satisfied with the unit. It gives me a back-up camera, a radio with USB/SD function (no satellite), hands free Bluetooth calling, and a competent nav system for under $300.

Pros: Easy to understand radio and nav interface. Lots of options for media storage (USB, SD, Aux). Decent navigation. Large screen.

Cons: Microphone pick-up is weak. Switching between Nav and Media could be better. Back-up cable was too short and had to buy an extension. Blue face lights annoying at night.

Good Radio - Poor Tech Support!

Poor direction for use - hard to follow. It says it comes with your choice of 5 wallpapers, but only one (1) works. I called "Cruchfield Technical Support" and they were of little help. There fix was to reboot the radio and start all over. Also, there was little help again on how to update the GPS except to follow the directions (no walk though). I think they need some customer education. Other than that, the radio sounds and works great.

Pros: Radio sounds great and does everything

    Cons: Technical Support!

Great product for the price! I had it professionally installed and it looks great in my 2008 Toyota Highlander (base). Pros 1. All of the features work as stated & the backup camera is an added benefit that was not even on my list. 2. Once I got the EQ dialed in under the "User" tab and added a 10 inch woofer / amp all-in-one unit, my system now sounds amazing with this unit. Cons 1. GPS software is a little funky & a little slow. 2. There is no simple base & treble but an EQ instead. It makes things a little more complex in getting your music dialed in. 3. The highs & mids were excellent. The base sounded worse than my factory system. 4. I had to buy a woofer / amp all-in-one unit to get the needed base. Overall great unit for the price!

Lacks instructions for wiring; using reverse light for camera power and reverse trigger would not work. Installation required wiring from accessory power to camera.

The only thing this particular model didn't do was enable my steering wheel controls, but I knew that going in. The radio fit, installed and performed as advertised. After 3 calls to Crutchfield to check and double check specs and installation question I ordered the BOSS. On each and every call to Crutchfield I recieved full and complete answers to my questions. Their patience with my calls was appreciated. Would I buy this product from this supplier again, YES! I also bought the offered matching wiring bundle. It was a simple and reliable way of assuring that all the connections would be correct. Also, I had it professionally installed by one of Crutchfields' suggested installers. Everything went a smooth as silk.

Stereo sounds great comparing to the stock 2011 Nissan frontier stereo. Easy to use although the touchscreen is a little sensitive. Navigation is a little tricky as you cannot speak (as far as I know) a location into the unit. The digital music is nice with the use of an MicroSD card. The unit is limited to 99 folders total. Not sure is that is both a USB stick and SDC (for a total of 198 folders?).

Wasn't hard to install but there could have been better instructions with the unit. I will say that I find this to be a subpar receiver. It takes several seconds to boot up when the truck in crank and you have to wait to use the rear view camera. Also the navigation which I bought the unit for has proved to be mostly worthless. I have tried it 10-15 times and half the time it cannot find the address you want and most of the addresses I put in are established places and not something new. I'd have to say if I had to do it again I would not purchase this unit.

Pros: touch screen easy to set up fit well in dash

Cons: bad navigation too long to boot up after the vehicle is cranked boot up makes the rear view camera null and void unless you wait

Wow, this head unit is garbage. After 3.5 hour install, which was a major pain in itself that I wont go into because thats how it goes sometimes, I got the unit up and running and realize the bluetooth doesnt work. Come to find out you have to do some round about in depth changes on your android phones settings to get it to work. Ok, fine. Next, steering wheel controls: doesnt start out set up, which i thought was the whole point of the PAC unit included. Nope, gotta go into the head unit settings and program each button. Ok, fine. Turn off car, go to drive again the next time and steering controls dont work again. The unit apparently doesnt save them, and yes i followed the directions many times. I havent even driven anywhere and used the camera or phone or navigation or anything else yet but Im sure the other medias are just as bad. Its also very clunky, ugly display, wrong color lights for my dash with no option to change colors, and touch screen is not accurate even after re-calibrating. I hate hate hate it. Will be returning

I liked the unit, it fit my 2002 explorer beautifully. The GPS is hard to use, jumps around when I try to input address etc. The radio is great, backup camera works fine but a little hard to see with the ambient light. That also applies to the DVD player. Park in the shade. Phones fine except people on the other end say it sounds like I'm in a tunnel, but I can hear them fine. I maybe should have given it a 3 star.

Pros: each aspect of the unit worked, good radio, fit car great.

    1997 Ford Expedition

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

A few things... I bought this Boss BN965BLC for my 1997 Ford Expedition Eddie Bouer 4x4 and as you can see from the pics, it's a TIGHT fit. When they say that SOME modification is necessary, that statement should say MAJOR cutting is going to be required. After removing the bevel that goes around the stereo area, I ended up needing a (1) cutting wheel, (2) hack saw, (3) reciprocating saw and a (4) Dremel to remove the necessary amount of plastic and metal from the top and bottom of the factory stereo area to make this fit. The sides of the plastic molding were super easy to trim, nothing was in the way. I had to use the Dremel to cut away the bottom of the plastic molding all the way down to the top of the climate control gauges, and the top area was where the challenge really became apparent. There were large metal studs behind the plastic molding along the top where I had to cut about 3/4 in for the stereo to fit. This took the Dremel to remove the plastic, the reciprocating saw to cut the metal studs, the hack saw to finish the cuts because the reciprocating saw didn't fit to complete the cuts, and the cutting wheel to trim the metal back later. There is also a plastic shield that protects the radio from hitting the top of the dash area, this had to be cut out as well. In the end, after I finally got the stereo mounted, as you can see, the DVD is almost blocked by the front bevel and hard to reach the uppermost buttons. The radio itself is great, install... EPIC and Messy!

I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, TJ with a single din stereo. Purchased this with the extra needed that crutchfield offers for my Jeep, I wanted something not to expensive because of my soft top, easy to cut and take. Took out what the directions required in the dash and still Had to make myself, two metal plates to have it bolt up properly, If you don't it will not line up. After lining everything up and installing, hooked up backup camera. My license plate is off center so keep that in mind while using it. Descent sound (with loudness on) and has some nice features for a gps/ dvd/ Bluetooth/ etc. it's not totally hands free phone but close enough. Remember when setting it up at first, swipe the screen to go to the second screen, that's where most of the setup functions are. I have to say, it packs a big punch for the price! If your looking for an upgrade for your Jeep and not looking for the $3,000.00 plus system I truly would recommend it! Pleasantly Surprised.

    Pros: Nice for the price.

Cons: Little more needed to install.

This thing is really great so far. It took me a while to install it have never done a car stereo before. I called Crutchfield for help and they helped. Had to take dash apart, install stereo, route wires to reverse cam, figure out power for dash cam, find reverse wire to tap into, resolve a couple of impasses like hole for video wires and working in the cold. Nav works great (caveat no Canada map which is not ideal cuz I live on the border and go there sometimes) except the cues are different from Google GPS so you have to get used to it. For example when you are 1.9 miles from a turn it says after one mile take the next exit which caused me to fly across three lanes and take the next exit which was not what it meant. One weird thing, at one particular intersection I am supposed to turn left but it tells me to turn right, but one arrow points left and the other arrow points right. Very strange but still very useable. The radio has better reception than my factory radio. Sound quality possibly better than factory, I probably need to buy speakers. Bluetooth working great. I bought the unit for Bluetooth. Reverse camera is so cool. DVDs work. After all the extras this cost me around 340 I guess. Very happy with it. So many useful extra features. Thanks Crutchfield. Crutchfield support was VERY helpful.

Install is straight forward but has a big bundle of RCA's off the back that could cause a problem if the dash behind is tight. The backup camera cable supplied is about 4' too short for a crew cab 3/4 ton truck.

First let me say Crutchfield customer service is amazing. Now the unit itself is not. It did not come with everything it was supposed to. The camera was missing...the Navi card was shoved into the wrong area...there are scratches. The Navi is not up to date and boss customer service is no help. They send you to a place overseas to get support which to update a brand new system you have to pay for. Even though it is brand new and should come out of the box updated or with at least ONE update to get it started. Being as this is why I bought the unit in the first place it is pretty useless to me. It was such a pain tying to get it installed in my tiny car it would be more hassle removing it so now I just have a look of Navi without the actual function. ??

Pros: Crutchfield customer service is great

Cons: Navi not up to date, cost to update, hard to install, didn't come with everything needed

I bought this unit after months of reading reviews and research, including videos of how to install. similar units. It took me on and off 2 days to put in mainly because I wanted it perfect and I wanted it to look like it was professionally installed. I had to be very careful not to break any panels or scratch up the finish on any parts of my vehicle. I would say it would be nice for Crutchfield to make a proper video so all the little tricks are addressed. Radio and camera could be put in within 2 to 4 hours with proper instruction. There are several tricks not addressed anywhere that made it necessary to call tech services for help and I had to pull the unit back out several times to get right. When installing this unit in a Chevy Tahoe.....Backup Camera comes with 21 ft of RCA cable, I bought 3 extra ft, I ended up using almost 20 more feet to rout correctly. Completed unit is nice, works correctly and I would suggest anyone that wanted to buy a replacement unit it is a great buy. I was very happy with unit, service, prompt delivery and professionalism of tech dept.

I replaced the stock non-JBL head unit in a 2011 Toyota Tacoma with the BN965BLC. Installation was simple and straight-forward. The unit worked relatively well the first couple of months. Bluetooth pairing is clunky and takes seemingly forever to switch devices, but it works. Touchscreen orientation of icons is less than ideal -- you get used to attempting to select the home screen and instead tuning the radio to the bottom of the dial. Fit and finish is excellent, though, and I was very happy with how it installed. Looks almost like factory. The unit worked from installation on Sept. 31 until Dec. 9, when it died. A pretty short run for a mid-pricey piece of tech. Contacted Crutchfield on Dec. 9th, got a robo-reply the next day, then never heard a peep from them. All in all a pretty crappy experience.

    Pros: Looks nice, kind of.

    Cons: Does not operate.

This is a great unit at a great price, but there is one exception which every buyer should be aware of. Although the unit is advertised as offering "hands free calling" it does not provide hands free calling. It has Bluetooth and can "receive" a call hands free. You can also utilize the built-in Bluetooth to conduct a "hands free" conversation on a call originated directly by your cell phone (voice or dial). You cannot originate a call by voice using this unit. The only way to "call out" directly from this unit is to dial a number using the units keypad, or selecting a number from a downloaded phonebook. This is not hands free calling! These two choices are dangerous and in my home state illegal! I have two other cars with units advertised to provide hands free calling. Those units each allow voice activated calling. If this is not an issue to you, you will be very pleased with all other features provided. The Bluetooth capabilities, GPS, Backup Camera and media choices (including SD Card) are easy to use and perform well. Installation was relatively easy with a couple of calls to the excellent Crutchfield tech support team. I'm satisfied with the unit and with Crutchfield support. I am not satisfied that this unit is advertised as providing hands free calling. I verified this units lack of hands free calling with Crutchfield Tech support and informed management of this issue. The unit is still advertised as offering hands free calling, so buyer beware!

Pros: Great features, great price, easy installation

Cons: No hands free calling as advertised

Unit does everything it is supposed to- my 2nd. Backup Camera, GPS, Navigation with 2017 maps, Phone pairing, etc. Have a Boss BV960 in a different car- for last two years- so this was a natural. Great price- but as I knew ahead of time my steering wheel controls and rear audio controls wouldn't work in an '06 Navigator.. That was my choice since they weren't something I used anyway. Was supposed to be directly compatible with 2006 Lincoln Navigator- but that certainly wasn't true. Needed more than a few calls to tech support- supplied "factory-compatible" connector was completely wrong and was not ever compatible. Had to wire directly to the factory wiring harness and sacrifice the factory plug connector- but Tech Support was able to read off the correct factory wiring colors and codes so it wasn't so bad- just wasted parts of three different days figuring it out. Had the connector been compatible- it would have taken only three hours. It fit, but plugs and pins didn't match. Can't blame Boss for that, however. This can't be the first 06 Navigator install- it should not have been a surprise to Crutchfield that the standard Ford connector would not work- it was dramatically the wrong size- once you know what wire to connect. The supplied connector did fit one of the plugs- the rear stereo controls- but not the larger plug with the power, ground, and all the speaker connectors.

Pros: Another good Boss unit with everything working and operational as advertised. My 2nd one in a Ford Escape two years ago- this one works same way with updated maps. Upgraded car to new technology with minimum $.

Cons: Metra harness incompatible with Lincoln Navigator- this can't be the first install in an 06- someone should have known the connector would not fit.

I am no electrician or auto mechanic, but this install was fairly easy. The Crutchfield Tech Service Line answered my questions and YouTube video helped. The Crutchfield Wire Harness Service was definitely worth every penny. The Boss Navigation unit is kinda weird, but overall I like it and the sound is great. The Bluetooth works pretty good and the backup camera exceeded my expectations. My install was in a 2007 F 150 with no factory subwoofer. I am very pleased to have an updated stereo, Bluetooth, backup camera in my old truck and am very happy with the purchase, product, performance, and ease of installation. Thanks Crutchfield.

The unit is an easy install and user friendly. However, the Bluetooth phone connection is terrible. Callers voices are garbled and the volume is too low. The actual receiver is average at best. I bought this radio to replace a crappy one bought from Crutchfield years ago for my 2006 Dodge RAM truck. I have a back up camera, a GPS, a radio and wanted to declutter my dash panel. I purchased the preassembled cable and that really aided in the installation speed. However, the left rear speaker wires were not crimped from Crutchfield. I don't know how they missed that, but they did. At first I thought I had a wiring problem in my truck as this year/model truck has an issue with the wiring harness going to the left rear door. After I crimped the speaker wires down, it worked and I was back on track to install this thing. For my install, I wanted to utilize the back up camera as a rear view camera. Instead of wiring to the reverse lights, I wired to a switched hot lead and a toggle switch on the dash. The result is that I can switch the display to the rear view camera at any time and the radio audio is not interrupted. The one thing that didn't work worth a darn is the built in bluetooth mic used for my cell phone. It's very insensitive and I had to shout to be heard at all and even then, my audio out to the other party was too low to be usable. For some reason, BOSS doesn't add a plug on this radio for a remote mic option. Now, I KNOW they are aware this mic is crap, and that they choose to ignore this and not add the jack to this radio for an aftermarket mic, let alone fix the mic problem and for that I dropped my review rating one star.

Pros: price fit radio sensitivity rear view camera

Cons: Text on rear view image at bottom of screen not opaque enough to see all the camera image. mic is really bad, BOSS knows it and yet won't fix this issue no 3.5mm jack to add a replacement mic

This is a great do-it-all system for the price. Backup camera sharp and clear, nav seems easy to setup, and the output for my Mercury Grand Marquis factory amp really brought out the sound like my previous after market kenwood never did. The Bluetooth mic is built into the radio so it doesn't require the external mic that used to get knocked off when my visor was deployed.

Pros: All encompassing unit, very nice quality appearance. Also, as usual, crutchfield help outstanding...a pleasure to deal with...they don't make you feel like you're imposing on them, or stupid.

Cons: Wish the system would automatically go to backup camera when reverse selected instead of having to select camera input.

This was installed in a 2012 Honda Fit. The Metra kit was a perfect cosmetic and physical fit, and the wiring harness I bought from Crutchfield simplified things considerably. As with every single other radio I have purchased, the cable for the backup camera was too short, so I had to extend it. The shipped radio turned out to be defective, crashing intermittently during boot up. Crutchfield sent a new one, which solved the problem (superb phone customer service-a major reason to continue buying from Crutchfield). The unit does everything well. The controls are laid out reasonably well and the gps function is very good, although one must turn off points of interest display, which is on by default (odd that) and totally obscures the map. I particularly like that it turns on the backup camera instantly, even before boot up. The primary negative is that the color choices on the display are horrible-mostly a medium gray that is difficult to see in sunlight-what the hell were they thinking? Despite these drawbacks, however, it performs well and is overall an excellent value. I would buy this product again.

Great head unit for anyone looking to upgrade an older vehicle so it has all the features that are standard on newer models. Functionally, this unit has been a 5-Star performer so far. Lot's of options for adjusting sound quality, sound levels, crossover to sub-woofer etc. Haven't used the Nav much but it worked flawlessly on its maiden voyage. Feature concerns are answered in Pros/Cons section Install instruction are terrible and for those who need detailed install instructions - Google and patience are advised. I anser some of the most common Q's below. The trim kit for our 2008 Saturn Astra is perfect. The fit/finish are 100% factory match and no one would ever know that this unit was not installed at the factory. Install tip #1: 1. At the camera end - the small red extension wire (paired with the yellow video cable) needs to be connected to the same + power source as the + red power feed to the camera. At the head unit end - the small red extension wire needs to be connected to the violet/white wire. This is the only way the head unit knows when you are in reverse. Crutchfield is an Awesome company and customer service is number one in the industry, so I have Zero problems with them. I should have spent the extra money and gotten the pioneer brand. The radio is good but volume for cell phone is a bit low and no way to raise beyond the max input of phone itself. Also Navigation program had to be made in China, Tiles, Tiles everywhere all over your map screen. no way you could ever use them since they are scrunched together WAY too tightly. Most importantly there is no custom search feature on this navigation. so if I am looking for the nearest Home depot. Forget it. the function doesn't exist. So for me the Navigation is useless. which is why I purchased the radio in the first place was to have integral GPS so I don't get stopped for fidgeting with my on dash Unit. 1 ticket would cost as much as a new radio so I decided to get this one, but now I'm back to square one!

Pros: Radio is great. sound is good. Bluetooth works well.

Cons: Low phone volume on Blue tooth. Navigation in my opinion is UN-usable. Chinese, Junk program.

great radio for the price. Every feature that a lot more expensive radio has but at half the price. The include back camera works great and is super adjustable to work with different height cars and trucks. The only "con" I can say, is it is a little slow going from one source to the next, not a big deal but it is slower then a high-end radio. Also for some reason I can't get my Phone book on my phone to sync to my radio. It will get my call history but won't find my phonebook. Not a big deal either but I figured I would mention it. Other then these two "little" problems the system is great. Would recommend to everyone looking for a cheap radio with all these functions.

I think overall this unit is a great value, Many features for the cost. The install in my 1997 Ford F150 was difficult (for me). Much more of the enclosure for the stock radio needed removal. This is stated, and was known to me prior to purchase. With the mods to the old housing, I still needed to gain more space top to bottom to make the unit fit. I ended up removing the HVAC module, and elongating the mounting holes to gain a 1/4 inch. Also ground down the top of it for a little additional space. It actually ended up fitting well, and the dash surround fit as designed. Wired it myself, and is fully functional except for the back up camera. I need a little hand holding for that I guess. All in all, a nice unit. Please with the audio quality, plays from flash drive just fine, Nav works well, blue tooth no problems. Just need help with the backup camera. The sound of car stereo is awesome, however I could not give it 5 stars because the mic on the stereo for blue tooth calls is horrible. No one can hear me unless I lean forward and speak into the mic. If buying a stereo that you also want to make blue tooth phone calls with, then I would advise to buy one with an external mic. Crutchfield gave me the opportunity to send this back and order one with an external mic, however as I already hooked up the backup camera that came with unit, I opted to keep the stereo because other than the blue tooth mic, everything else works perfectly.

Pros: Easy Install in 2007 Uplander, Backup camera is very clear, Nice Nav. Great sound.

Cons: Internal blue tooth mic does not work properly

I bought this for my 1997 Toyota 4runner. All the features work, like the back up camera, the GPS and the bluetooth however the radio produces no audio. I checked and rechecked all of my wiring (which Crutchfield had done with a readyharness) and I still have no audio. Oddly enough, the only time I get radio is taking hard left turns... I'm thinking something is internally wrong with the unit.

Easy to install, sounds great, easy to use. If I had any complaint at all it would be the reverse camera cable is too short for my F250 extended cab long bed truck. I had to buy an RCA extension cable from a local retailer for $6. Otherwise, I'm very pleased!

I'm not an audiophile and I don't keep up with the latest car stereo options. I was looking for a CD player to replace the simple am/fm radio in my retired Crown Vic cop car, so I found this unit while browsing Crutchfield's website. Way more options than I was originally looking for but the price was about what I was willing to spend so I bought it. I also ordered the ready-harness to make install easier. Box arrived soon enough and everything was there but not much in the way of instructions for the gps or the backup camera. I watched a bunch of videos online and figured it out. Took pretty much all of a Saturday afternoon to complete. Everything works as it's supposed to. The backup camera is really nice with the big car (the angle is adjustable via 2 small screws) and the gps is very detailed and easy enough to use. Can watch DVDs on it too but not sure I'll really ever do that. I had to cut down the size of the camera mount so that it would not cover up my license plate date sticker, not a big deal but thought I'd mention it. Also I was disappointed in the ready-harness because 2 of the wires were not engaged in the crimps. Luckily I had a couple new crimps in my toolbox and was able to make it right without having to make a special trip. Still, for the price of the harness, I expected 100% quality. Not sure I would go with the ready-harness again since it was not all that 'ready'.

Pros: Lots of features for the money

Cons: Lack of clear instruction for camera wiring and gps mounting

Worst car stereo I have ever experienced. Took me a half day to install it and it was down hill from there. The sound is OK but I purchased this for the rear-view camera, the GPS mapping and the bluetooth connectivity to my iPhone and it failed my expectations at all three. To turn on the rearview camera you move the selector to Streaming, which turns off everything else, such as music - frustrating. The GPS maps are cluttered with objects making the roads hard to follow, the screen is dim and the contrast in map object colors is not enough to make quick viewing while driving possible, so I gave up using the GPS feature. The bluetooth connectivity is sporadic and unreliable, I would have my iPhone connected by bluetooth then suddenly lose the connection and not be able to get it back again. Once I lose the bluetooth connection the bluetooth option does not even show up to the selections so I cannot even debug what the issue is. I can rent any car today and have no problem with the GPS or bluetooth functions. Why can't these guys get it right with an aftermarket box!? I finally, frustratedly had to remove the Boss and put the original factory radio back in.

Pros: sound, but no better than any other radio

Cons: Poorly designed GPS, sketchy bluetooth, no simultaneous function capability.

When the CD/Cassette (Yeah, Cassette) player in my Miata died, it was unacceptable to have no tunes. I'd been looking at this unit as a viable option for my truck so I figured, why not test it out on the Miata. It has all of the features I wanted, GPS, will play CDs/Mp3/DVD on disk. Will play from MicroSD and Jump drive. Plus it came with a backup camera. The installation was not without a few bumps in the road, getting the old unit out was a challenge, plug and play wiring harness from Crutchfield was the best choice. The instructions from Boss are minimal, for example, nowhere in the instructions or on the unit did it say or show which way was up/down on the backup camera. Wiring the backup camera was somewhat frustrating and took a couple of calls to the incredible technical staff at Crutchfield and watching a couple of online videos. Turned out to be simpler than the instructions I was given. When that was done, all was well. Now I'm enjoying my tunes again and trying to figure out some fine details about using the unit. I will be buying another one of these for my truck and based on their incredible customer service, I'm buying from Crutchfield. TOP NOTCH SELLER and the best customer support staff I've ever experienced.

Pros: Good sound. Loads of features. Looks great. Works great. I'm buying another one for another vehicle. Thought I rarely listen to the radio, I pickup stations I never knew were accessible in my rural location. GPS works great. Bluetooth to my phone works great. Backup camera works great. All is well. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.

    Cons: Boss instructions are minimal.

I am giving this three stars bc I am very disappointed with the GPS. I needed a radio, but spent extra for hands free navigation that seems to be worthless. We took a 450 mile trip and "Lula" couldn't find the destination I put in. So I picked a business address and she found that. During our traveling time she tried at least a dozen times for us to turn off our route. Not just minutes. I'm talking hours in wrong directions. We knew where we were going so we could check her, but what if someone would have gone with her? She clearly didn't know where she was going. This should not be included with radio if not updated. I want to know how to update this? Backup camera seems to work good however cable to short for Highlander. Have not tried remote. Radio seems to work ok. I feel like I wasted money on something I can't use.

I purchased the Boss BN965BLC from Crutchfield June 12, 2018. I left a review. I've since discovered a flaw with the unit and I wanted to update my review, however, I've confirmed that is not allowed directly. The Boss BN965BLC has a problem handling folders and titles when read from an SD card or USB drive. I have been in touch with Boss tech support regarding this problem. In addition I shipped my unit to Boss in August for them to investigate the problem. I've received my unit back but I have not received an update from them regarding the problem. 1. The unit will not list all the folders on the SD card or USB Drive. The limit, as per Boss, is 99 folders. I had 65 on my card. It will list some of the folders than it dumps everything else into an "Unknown" folder that the unit creates. E.g. I did not have an Unknown folder on my card. 2. It truncates, or cuts off, the title at random locations. I would understand if it cut all titles off after a certain number of characters but that is not the case. In a Beatles album I have on my card it cut off "Hey Jude" at "Hey Jud" but it cut off "Please, Please Me" at "Please, Please M". I'm attaching a picture of the unit's screen showing what I am describing. I confirmed with Boss that I had less than the number of allowed songs and folders on the card. I also confirmed my method of applying information to the songs (via File Explorer), and all of the songs were MP3 and copied from the same computer to the SD card. I also did a Factory Reset as they suggested, tried different SD cards and flash drives. Nothing made a difference. Boss also said that I had the latest, and only, firmware for the unit. Supposedly, the unit was looked at by their R&D department. I have seen at least one other reviewer on Crutchfield mention this problem. I believe there is a problem with their firmware for this unit. Otherwise the unit is great and I am very happy with it, however, one reason I bought this unit is because it would play from an SD card and or USB drive. It does but this problem makes it difficult to use that function. Interestingly, if I play the same set of songs from my phone directly, it shows all the information correctly thus pointing to a problem in their firmware. I would be happy if you would contact the company about this observation but at least I think my discovery should be mentioned in a review so other buyers and potential buyers would know of the problem.

Great Head unit. Sound is more than adequate, and screen is large enough to use. I drive a convertible, so the sun washes out visibility when you are going topless, same as the stock unit did. The camera provides a good picture, but is not adjustable to allow for the angle of license plate mount. If you are going to mount the radio yourself, I recommend getting the adaptor attached by Crutchfield. It will save a lot of time and aggravation. Think about where you want to put the GPS receiver if you want it to work. Dashboard or trunk lid are about it. Crutchfield was great to work with.

Pros: Large screen. Few buttons to deal with...nice when you want to pay attention to the road or make an adjustment in the dark. Menu Icons are large.

Cons: Finding the HOME icon is simple but activation is iffy. As is usual these days, installation instructions are completely inadequate. Good thing I got it from Crutchfield. And, there's the internet, for what its worth.

Just installed it and happy with it overall, given it's price. I gave the product a 5 star rating (given it's price). My only slight disappointment is that the instructions that it came with were NON EXISTENT!!! The Crutchfield emailed instructions said just to follow the instructions given with the Boss unit. But the instructions for the Boss was very very lacking and had zero instructions on how to hook up the camera portion. I had to just guess and try my best. I called the customer service line to get help and the guy was minimally helpful which is unusual since most people I've dealt with are usually helpful at Crutchfield. By the way, if you are reading this looking for help with the install, here's the skinny. 1. The reverse wire ties to the red wire next to the long RCA connector. 2. You run the long RCA wire from the head unit, through the body, somehow to the back depending on your car. Mine is a F250. I chose to go through under the driver's foot area where there was a rubber plug. I put it through and fished it along the chassis with zip ties, and hooked it up to the back camera. 3. You connect the power cord for the camera to the reverse light with the splice connectors that Crutchfield sends to you.

Pros: -Cheap -All of it works (nav, radio, dvd, back up camera) -Backup camera definition is pretty darn good -Sound is pretty good for everyday use on my upgraded Rockford Fosgate speakers

Cons: -No help for installation. You either know how to do it or you are screwed. -Wish there were 1 button access for each function instead of having to scroll through and some of the options take forever to pass through.

But my small issue is, nav takes forever to load. does not play mp4, so my kids cannot watch education mp4 videos. Great idea for the back up camera, i wish the cable was long enough for my truck, i had to extend it to another 6 feet to reach the license plate.

So far this radio is a very good value! It works as well as a lot of factory radios with navi, back up camera, DVD, etc. The navigation through the features is fairly easy and the DVD playback works well. The only complaint is with the navi...the routes given are not ideal and Google Maps is fair superior.

Pros: Great features for the money and a nice looking when installed.

Cons: The navi mapping is not that great. Google Maps is far superior.

Overall I like the unit, especially for the price. Nice features. The unit was easy to install except the backup camera. The instructions were a little lite on how to hook up the wiring for the backup camera. Also, the main reason I bought it was I wanted a unit with Bluetooth hands free for my cell phone. The built in microphone sucks and I just found out this specific unit does not support an external microphone.

    Pros: Nice Features

Wish I could review the back-up camera and stereo/GPS separately. DO NOT buy this just for the added camera! The stereo and GPS were easy to install and so far have performed very well. I will say, however, that the plastic bracket supplied by Crutchfield is absolutely lousy. Does not fit my 06 CR-V. About the camera..... As one might imagine, it's no easy task to first splice into the reverse light power, route that wire through multiple flexible conduits back to the camera, and then go through the long process of dismantling vehicle panels to snake the video cable up to your dash. A few hours if you do it correctly. So being a prudent technician, before routing the cable I connected it to the head unit and all was well - beautiful picture. The fist problem I encountered was that the cable was about 4 ft too short. On a CR-V - a compact SUV! Would Boss have gone bankrupt to include 10 more feet of the extremely cheap cable? Which leads me to my next complaint. After sweating my butt off routing this cable, adding an extension, and buttoning up all the removed panels, I turn on the unit, throw the transmission in reverse, and voilla! No picture. After checking all my connections I discovered that the supplied, too-short, video cable has a defective connector. So what does that mean? It means I have to order a new cable and go through the entire dang process of routing it through the car again. Thanks Boss and Crutchfield for adding 2 hours of misery to life!

Pros: GPS and stereo work great.

Cons: Installation accessories will make your life miserable.

I've Own this radio for a few moths now and it has been a headache to say the least. But first let me just say Crutchfield tech support is awesome and very helpful. I've had nothing but issues with the rear view camera from the start and continues to not work to this day. The radio will sometimes freeze on the welcome screen after start up and I would have to shut down the car for 1 minute before re-starting the car. The Navi is very slow starting up and completing a route to a destination, just when you think it is done, it is not done loading. People on the other line of phone calls say they can barely hear me or I sound as if I'm 10ft away from the phone. The steering wheels controls are good but when listening to the radio and hitting the up or down for next preset instead it just seeks up or down. Overall the radio is ok, sounds good, but I'll be in the market to switch this one.

I was skeptical that a low priced unit would be this good, but it had the features I was looking for, so I gave it a shot. It sounds great! Easy to use and the touch screen works great.

Pros: Checked all the boxes for the high priority features I wanted. Screen looks great, touch is good. Sounds great even with my original speakers. A great upgrade for my old car.

Cons: The brackets for my 2008 Toyota Solara had to be modified to make the heater controls fit. Not real happy with the uneven gaps. Took way longer than 2 hrs. to install.

2012 Xterra with 100k+ miles. Unit has all the features you'd want; Bluetooth, dvd/ cd, nav, an equalizer, etc. Sounds great. Looks nice. However, its slow to boot up. A very goofy radio interface. Even though u get what u pay for, quality still seems bad. 1st unit sounded terrible (muddy and tinny sound). Frustrating because the problem is the same if you wire the speakers wrong.. so I re-did all the speaker wires. Turns out it was a bad "pre-amp" instead. 2nd unit randomly would freeze at bootup. On the third unit and so far so good. VERY challenging install for me (not car radio expert.) Dismantling dashboard was nerve wrecking. Trying to hold old unit whilst unplugging 6 diff connectors was ridiculous. Will it all be hard for you? Here's a test: Did you know a wire labeled "B+" is connected to a wire labeled "ACC" and this means it's the "switched" power? If this made no sense, you'll be challenged, but you'll get through it and you'll feel good / accomplished afterwards. The reverse camera was most challenging (no instructions) You may have to drill holes. You WILL have to tap into your vehicle reverse tail light. If you have a truck get a longer cable. Read the other review to know what to do with the little red wires. With your order, get the wire connectors, harness for your vehicle and plastic tools for dashboard.

Pros: Features. Sound. Look of unit. Crutchfield was very helpful dealing with install and having two bad units.

Cons: Slow to boot up. Goofy radio interface: Tiny radio station preset buttons and PS scrolls like 6 chars at a time so you can't read song info. Questionable quality Installation.

Delivery was quick and correspondence with support staff was timely. I had a bit of a hiccup with installation as I didn't initially realize the factory bezzal on the head-unit needed to come off for the Metra kit to be fitted properly. And then connecting the park and reverse wires took some web searching as it wasn't clear in the instructions where these wires need to be connected or tapped into under the dash. Once I got everything figured out and hooked up properly it all worked without any issues.

Pros: - Fit perfectly with proper Metra dash kit - A lot of nice features - USB/SD/AUX ports all up front - Nice user layout/interface - intuitive to navigate - purchasing the 'easy harness' made it a true 'plug and play' as for power/radio installation/operation

Cons: - Needs added instructional details explaining where/how to connect the park/reverse trigger wires. - Wiring that was provided for the camera and power is too short by about 6 ft for a Ford F150 Supercrew cab.

Good product but there's almost no instructions for map / software updates. The micro-usb card must be removed from the car unit and inserted into a PC via a card reader. Next I had to go to Nplus.com, download and install the Nplus software and click 'my products' to upgrade the files. Once the update completed, I reinstalled the micro-sd card into the car unit. Kind of a hassle but I'm still pleased with the unit. BOSS, Please include better instructions in the manual!

Pros: Nice touch-screen. menus are loaded with versatile features. Map is intuitive. Bluetooth connects easily. Good overall audio.

Cons: Screen can be washed out by Direct sunlight. No instructions to update navigation software. $85 cable (not included) needed so steering wheel controls would work.

First noticeable Bluetooth connection is much better than my old pioneer CD player. Be aware! the volume for Bluetooth is much lower than radio. GPS doesn't Know my exact home location. That's a bit odd. Hopefully with update it will improve. Also when drive pass a any obstacle ie. bridges, the GPS signal lost instantly. DVD is great but not able to have it on during drive is kind of useless. No entertainment for passenger(s). :( For anyone with 2009 Toyota Yaris who wants to install this unit with camera ... after remove all thing in the trunk area including spare tire. It will take a while to remove plastic cover at the back over the car. 1. Run the video camera on the driver side. I looked up at several forums on internet. The cord red and black for back up light is located at the back on the driver side. You need to connect power supply to that. 2. You need to attach or have someone hold the camera and run the power and video from license plate up to the little light over the license plate. Remove light and push the cord with video and power connection (red and yellow). You need a small flat head screwdriver wrap the tip in a small piece of cloth. Push the tip gently to the right side of the tap and pop it out. The light has enough gap for the cord to go in without any modification. 3. Run it to the left side, there is a rubber seal with the cord around it. This is tricky part, I cut a small hole and push the cord through it. Af

Pros: All in one unit, no more phone holder.

Cons: Video won't play when drive.

Very pleased with this head unit. GPS has worked well and the back camera is a bonus! I've installed my own units in my vehicles in the past, so no real issues. I should have taken the back up camera warning from other buyers seriously. The wiring is a bit short (Chevy Silverado Crew Cab), but a simple trip to the store solved that problem. For the price, this is an excellent unit.

Pros: Best buy for your money. Sound quality is good, GPS accurate, more features than I had anticipated.

The other was the installation kit for a Ford which attaches to the side of the stereo to snap in place. The rounded front sides were to large to fit in the space I had. You will have to modify things so be prepared and take your time you will enjoy when finished.

Pros: Great stereo for the price. Great sound. More features than expected.

Cons: Rear camera cord not long enough for a truck install. A good written detail for installing would be nice.

Very nice unit basic but that is what I wanted. Good sound great reception! Took a while to modify dash but after that5 install was flawless. Have not hooked camera up yet due to weather but anticipate doing so this week .Metra dash piece worked well as did wire harness.Only part I don't like is the RCA plug pack.

    Pros:

Cons: RCA jack pack too clumsy

Excellent sound and navigation display. Minor modification took two days, some written guidance would have helped. Backup camera video cable not long enough for any full size pickup truck. Crutchfield should note to recommend additional 6-12 feet RCA cable with proper couplers when ordering for a truck.

Good unit at a great price... Everything works. First time I've replaced a modern vehicle radio so a learning curve for me. Read directions ahead to help understand. Also be prepared to vary slightly to make your unit fit correctly.

Pros: Looks like a factory unit.

Cons: Directions for the adapters were slightly off.

Install was a little confusing for the gps and back up camera but a simple google search cleared it up. Other than that no complaints.

Pros: Great quality for a great price

Cons: A few more instructions would be helpfull.

Good stereo for the money but the rear view camera safety message on the bottom of the screen blocks your view where you need it most as you back up and it does not go away, it should have been on the upper part of the screen.

Pros: Great value for what's offer, a lot cheaper than competition.

Cons: Control Remote does not operates consistently , doesn't work with what's app and back up camera message blocks some view.
