Apple CarPlay®

CarPlay integrates your iPhone into the driving experience in a seamless interface, putting iPhone content at the driver's fingertips with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

Go wireless with Bluetooth®

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for stored music, Internet radio stations, podcasts, and audiobooks. This receiver also lets you take and make calls while keeping your hands on the wheel — an awesome safety feature when you're making your daily commute. Boss built in a sensitive Bluetooth microphone for your calls, located on the receiver's faceplate for a simpler installation.

Display and sound goodies

You can use the sensitive 6.75" touchscreen display for system control, media info, and as a monitor for a connected backup camera (not included) — great for backing into those tight parking spots. Boss included two rear USB ports on the BVCP9675; one for your iPhone to work with Apple CarPlay and one for plugging in your digital music library. This Boss offers a 3-band equalizer with four presets for quick tone changes. To get more impact out of your system, six preamp outputs let you connect amplifiers to power your speakers and subs. You can even shut down the internal amp, turning your receiver into a preamp that sends cleaner signals going to your amps.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

This digital multimedia receiver will not play CDs.

Excellent CarPlay stereo for a low price. Wife has a more expensive name brand stereo and this BOSS stereo feels better and the touch screen is just like using the iPhone screen.

Pros: Looks great, sounds great, screen is very responsive and feels like an iPhone screen.

Cons: Doesn't play CDs but, who does that anymore?

This is a great radio. Does everything I wanted it to do. App radio works well. I have had one issue where the Siri would not read out my text or hear what I was saying through the radio. Had to reset the radio, seems to be working fine now. As always Critchfield was great, everything I needed to install the radio was included.

Pros: App Radio Bluetooth Backup Camera Ease of use

Cons: Little slow to startup and cannot get rid of the "boss audio" startup screen

I initially really enjoyed this stereo. It is sleek, works pretty quickly and sounded good. The problem though is it did not handle heat. I live in Georgia and after my truck would sit in the parking lot at work on a hot day, the stereo would either, not start up at all or cut on and off. From the other reviews, I am assuming this is a fluke and I just received a bad unit. When it was working, it was a decent unit. My only issues with the operation are below. 1. The startup is very slow taking almost 20 seconds to be ready to play music after the start the car. 2. The amp built into this radio is not great. The sound is descent, but I have since returned this unit and upgraded to a Pioneer and the sound quality difference is huge! 3. The look of the interface is kind of "cheap" looking. Again, I am biased now that I have the Pioneer whose backgrounds and screen look really good. I have no doubt that if this unit would have never had an issue, I would have happily kept it in my truck and enjoyed it for years. Knowing what I know now, with the better head unit installed, I would have to recommend you spend a little more money and get the Pioneer NEX-2400. It is well worth the money. On an additional note, GET THE PRE-WIRED HARNESS!! The guys at Crutchfield do an astounding job preparing the harness so that it looks great and is a plug and play job. Best money at this price point that I ever spent!

Nice unit. Does not fit my truck. I was told by customer service after trying to install this, that no double DIN unit with Apple Car Play will fit the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 without dash modifications. Why doesn't the website say this. I went with Crutchfield because I hate installing radios. I picked one that was suppose to fit! The face of the unit seems to fit okay, but I cannot tell because there is a metal bracket in the dash further back that has about 1/2 inch too small of an opening. I also had to cut some plastic nearer the front to get it to slide in - which ripped off all the warranty "do not tamper" stickers. GREAT!!!! I've included two photos. One is of the stock radio (top) vs the new Boss radio. The other is of the metal bracket that I have to figure out how to cut.

    Shockingly Amazing Unit!

This thing is shockingly amazing! I had never really heard of Boss Audio products much before shopping to replace my factory head unit that I've lived with for the last 7 years. I have owned Alpine, Kenwood and Clarion units for prior vehicles and decided to take a chance on this one based on the facts of it having all the features I wanted (including Apple CarPlay) and the positive reviews (both here and on other sites), plus it has a great price. Crutchfield included everything I needed to swap out my factory unit (including the dash panel, the wiring harnesses and all the instructions I needed as well), so that too was an amazing value and the results were everything I hoped for and more. Spending 15-20 mins fine tuning the EQ options for the system made my speakers come alive like I haven't heard in this car. It has great sound quality (far better than I expected at this price). I really was just wanting to add the CarPlay with touchscreen experience to my car, which I got and love, but I got WAY more than I imagined possible at this price. If CarPlay is something you want to have in your car, I enthusiastically recommend this unit. If you are of the Android phone owning persuasion, the same model number (but ending in 'A') adds Android Auto as well, and I have every reason to believe it is just as amazing as this one is.

Pros: Sounds great, lots of features, looks very nice, installs easily, and an amazing buying experience through Crutchfield.

    Cons: None.

Great Radio for a Great Price

    Verified customer (What's this?)

This radio has been great since I installed it. I gave 4 stars because sometimes the Apple CarPlay seems to get a little funky, where Siri won't work until I unplug and reconnect the phone. But other than that, I think this radio holds its own against much more expensive units. It sounds great, the touch display is very responsive and the menu is designed well. I almost removed another star because I couldn't get the unit to play videos from USB, even after a ticket to BOSS, that was no help, so I gave up on that idea. Not that I really care, but it's a cool feature that would have been nice to have. Overall, great head unit for a really good price. I have bought another for a family member already since they liked mine so much. (Should mention, very easy to install with the included harness).

Pros: Cheap Easy to install Great sound Good picture

Cons: No video playback (that works) Steering wheel controls work exactly as before (could also be the fault of the controller I purchased seperately)

Awesome radio. Love the layout of controls, has amazing sound. Crutchfield was helpful with ensuring I had no problems with installation of my new head unit. All I need to do now to really finish the project is grind down some more of the trim on the side of the radio to seat it flush with the center trim.

First time installing literally anything in my car. Bought car wrench/tools separately. Really straightforward to install. Have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 in which I had already had an Eclipse head unit installed back in 2008 along with Sirius radio plus a hands free set (that sucked). That was done professionally. I followed the instructions step by step, removed all the clutter (Sirius, Eclipse items) from inside the dash, and installed the Boss unit, and it worked like a charm. Sound is great, looks super sleek and makes my car look a LOT more updated... bluetooth etc all works great. Only complaint is that (unless I'm doing something wrong) I cannot seem to do hands free calls etc while CarPlay is plugged in / being used. Otherwise, great product and for a first time installer of ANYTHING in a car, this was surprisingly easy. (Cannot emphasize enough how much I am NOT a "car guy.")

Pros: Looks great; awesome sound; solid functionality

Cons: Can't get bluetooth / hands free calling to work while CarPlay is plugged in

The product really did surprise me. It looks good, sounds good, and the price is good. The apple CarPlay is the main reason I chose this unit, and it didn't break the bank. It's very responsive; as responsive as using my iPhone. My phone connects to it quick, and works well. What I do not like is the unnecessary "www.bossaudio.com" that shows up EVERY time you turn the radio on. Other than that, for the money, this radio Is worth it. And a big thanks to crutch field for price matching this item with bestbuy, and recommending me the hardware I needed. Helped a lot. Note to all of you-- try and price match by contacting them. I had an employee tell me he couldn't, but ADAM helped me do it and I saved money because of him. Keep that in mind and do research.

    Pros: Well priced, responsive, sleek,

Cons: Unnecessary Boss advertisement on start up screen

Great upgrade from my stock radio installed on a 2005 Ford five hundred and installing was a breeze. Turning in my 2014 sonata and going to be using this car now. Mainly bought for Apple car play and I needed a video screen for rear backup camera ( broke my neck and can't turn around) Camera hooked right up to unit with no problems feels like I'm driving a ten year newer car and sound is great also. Video screen is as nice if not nicer then my sonata stock video screen. Called Crutchfield for quick question and they were right there for me with the answer. Only reason not five stars is radio needed a volume knob.

Pros: Awesome sound and video easy installation

    Cons: No knob

I was a little hesitant to buy this radio, as it had less reviews than most of the other units, and it was the cheapest version with Apple CarPlay. However, I have enjoyed having it for the last few weeks, and it works great! The screen is extremely responsive, and has seemingly no lag when switching between sources, apps or radio stations. I noted some of the pros and cons below, but overall, I am extremely happy with the unit!

Pros: Price Speed/Responsiveness CarPlay works well Bluetooth pairs easily and quickly when starting up car Able to connect back up camera

Cons: Long startup animation No physical volume buttons Radio tuner interface is a little cheesy/bad UI Unit dims when headlights are turned on, which is designed to dim it at night, however, I always drive with my headlights on for safety, so I have to manually dim it when driving at night.

Overall impression : I should have bought a different CarPlay stereo. I mostly bought it because it seemed to have the most thought put into the design, and of course it's compatible with my car. It's a great looking model, they've positioned themselves well, and it's a big upgrade from my old stereo. There are basic usability/experience issues : for example, you can't 'scrub' the audio at all. This is where you slide your finger back and forth to jump ahead. This has been around since the iPod and then with a touch screen on the iPhone. Sometimes, the receiver acts like nothing is plugged into the USB port even though your iPhone will have a CarPlay logo on it. The biggest issue I have when this receiver is one so ridiculous it's prompted me to write this review. Every time you start your car, there is a startup graphic that plays. Not once, but twice. It's one of those terrible 3D graphics things from the early 2000's that has the logo for BOSS and then the URL to their website. It stays on the screen for what feels like an eternity (more like 10 seconds). I already paid for this dumb system, I don't need to see the longest promotional graphic ever and then go to their website. And THEN when that's over, you have to see a wall of text that fills the screen asking you to abide by the rule of law every time you drive, not get distracted, etc. And you can only bypass it by hitting 'I Understand.' How ridiculous! Every single time you start th

Pros: Best looking model I found on Crutchfield that works with my car. Loud enough that I didn't need to get an amp. Great instructions included.

Cons: No scrubbing (can't slide to skip or go back parts of a song/podcast) Very annoying startup graphic and 'legal agreement' you must click 'I understand' to. They don't seem to have good customer support at Boss Sometimes CarPlay bugs out and it's just a black screen, so you have to plug your iPhone in/out several times before it fixes.

Great stereo! Carplay functionality is awesome for iphone owners! Install was super easy with crutchfield's step by step directions. Only real issue I have is the lack of a physical volume knob. Didn't realize how much I would miss it.

Pros: Wired Apple Carplay. Easy Install. Great Features and support for Steering wheel controls and back up camera (not used in my install)

    Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay Certified: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running latest iOS version) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss BVCP9675. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss BVCP9675 in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BVCP9675 receiver's 6.75" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BVCP9675's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Boss BVCP9675. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BVCP9675's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BVCP9675's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying podcasts, music, and radio - including Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Other Functions: Within the CarPlay's touchscreen menu is a circular icon which acts like the back button on your iPhone. In addition there is an "Main Menu" icon which exists CarPlay and takes you back to the Boss receiver's Home Menu.
    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running the latest iOS version.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BVCP9675's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss BVCP9675A will also charge (5V/1A) your Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0+EDR: The Boss BVCP9675 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 3.0+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boss receiver.

Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss BVCP9675 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

Hands-Free Communication (External Mic): The Boss BVCP9675 allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BVCP9675 allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss BVCP9675 allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced  music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (not Album art).

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    USB/Aux/Camera Integration

USB MSC Playback: The BVCP9675 is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port attached to the rear-chassis via a hardwired 3' pigtail (labeled "USB 2"). The USB port allows for connection of a USB mass storage class device; such as a USB thumbdrive or portable digital music player (up to 32GB). The unit supports playback of a variety of music, video, and photo files loaded onto a compatible USB msc device. You can search by folder or file, control playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), well as view song/artist information - including album art. USB portable devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the navigation receiver's USB port (5V/1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    Media Type USB MSC
Playable File Types Audio MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, OGG, APE
Video AVI, MKV, MOV, WMV, OGM
    Photo JPEG, PNG, BMP

Note: The unit's USB port (labeled "USB 2") is not compatible with Apple iOS or Android devices.

Aux Input: The Boss BVCP9675 is equipped with a stereo RCA Aux input for connecting an external audio device.

Camera Input: The BVCP9675 features a composite video input for connection of a rear view camera (sold separately). This enables better visibility when backing up. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the integrated 6.75" LCD touchscreen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (purple/white wire of harness must be connected to the reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching can be set to 0.1, 0.5, 1, or 2 seconds.

Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

    Audio & Tuner Section

    20W x 4Ch Amp: The Boss BVCP9675 receiver is equipped with a 20 watt (RMS) x 4 channel amplifier.

6Ch/2V Pre-outs: The Boss BVCP9675 features front, rear and subwoofer 2.0-volt pre-outs. The front and rear speaker pre-outs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer pre-outs output are non-fading.

Note: The receiver's internal amplifier can be turned off to reduce noise when only using the head unit's pre-outs.

Sub Control w/ Low Pass Crossover: The head unit's subwoofer pre-out utilizes its own low pass crossover which can be set to 80Hz, 120Hz, or 160Hz. You can adjust the subwoofer output's level (0-14) independently from the overall volume.

EQ: The receiver offers 5 EQ presets - User, Rock, Pop, Classic, and Jazz. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band EQ (Low [100Hz], Mid [1kHz], High [10kHz]).

Loudness: The Loudness feature enhances high & low frequencies at lower volume levels.

AM/FM Tuner: The Boss BVCP9675 features a built-in AM/FM tuner. The BVCP9675 features 3 FM banks and 2 AM banks for storing presets (automatically or manually). You can store 6 presets for each AM/FM bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 12 AM presets (total of 30).

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible FM stations. FM stations with Radio Data System (RDS) service send inaudible digital information along with the regular radio program signal.
    • US/Euro Tuning: The tuner features selectable North America and European tuning.

Beep Tone: The in-dash receiver provides an audible beep to confirm operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display & Remote Features

6.75" Touchscreen: The Boss BVCP9675 receiver features a fixed 6.75" widescreen touchscreen LCD monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 RGB x 480 with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy.

    • Wallpaper/Backgrounds: You can choose from 5 preset wallpaper/backgrounds.
    • Backlight Brightness: You can adjust the LCD touchscreen monitor's brightness for day and nighttime viewing.
Note: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in LCD screen as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the light green wire (within harness) must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged.

Touch-Sensitive Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to touchscreen control, there are five touch-sensitive buttons along the left edge of the screen. You can select the illumination color of the buttons. Choose from six preset colors (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, or White); create a custom color, or have the unit cycle through all six preset colors.

how do you watch videos on this stereo?

The stereo does not provide any built-in video source of it's own so, you'd have to connect a USB drive that's pre-loaded with a compatible video file (AVI, MKV, MOV, WMV, OGM).

    6 answers
    A
Yes, your iPhone has to be plugged in to the USB. I just plug it in and put my phone in a cup holder. All the controls are on the radio itself once you plug your phone in so it's not a distraction. If you get a call or anything it comes through the radio, not your phone. Essentially when you plug your phone in the radio acts as your phone. The USB cord comes with the unit and you can run the cord to come out of your dash wherever you want to provide easy access to the USB.

The iPhone needs to be connected with a Lightning to USB cable to use the CarPlay functionality. The phone can also connect with Bluetooth using the native apps.

    Yes
    [ Allan  Feb 18, 2018 ]

Hello, if you want to use CarPlay, then the phone does need to be connected with a lightning connector. Otherwise you can use the Bluetooth side of this stereo still without the lightning connector of course.
    [ KayLee  Feb 18, 2018 ]
    A
Yes and no. The iphon does not need to be connected to play your music library, have a hand's free phone call, or use voice asisted directions in maps or google maps. You can do all of that with the Bluetooth connection. Howerver, to use the controls that you see in the photograph, to have navigation displayed on the screen, to have Siri search your address book and make calls for you, or read/send messages, you do need to be plugged in. The unit comes with 2 USB connectors, 1 for CarPlay, which allows you to actually control your phone via siri and the microphone, or usning the touch screen on the unit. The other can bu used as a charger, or, probably an ipod input that will still require control via the device itself. I much prefer being plugged in, and I keep a lightning USB dedicated to this function. I got a ling one that I run under my floor mat and up between the seat and center console, so its always available.

    Q
Does this support apple maps ? Presuming that full apple CarPlay function requires a USB connection - once connected, can the screen be used for all functions ?
    [ Gary  Oct 11, 2017 ]
    1 answer
    A
Any stereo that supports Apple's CarPlay will provide on-screen display & control of the Apple Maps apps, yes. Your compatible iPhone will need to be connected to the stereo's USB port. You will find the complete list of CarPlay compatible apps by clicking the "Details" tab on the stereo's main webpage and scrolling down below the "Features & Specs" table" I hope that helps. There are currently no aftermarket receivers available that support the wireless CarPlay feature. I believe there are only a handful of vehicles coming from factory that support it, Ferrari, BMW, and Porsche possibly.
