They are great. They have little problems, the left speaker crackles after a while if it gets too loud. The rubber that goes behind the brackets for the speakers is really hard and does not curve easily around the handle bars. The volume control needs be on a bracket so that you may relocate it easily. These issues are expected and are able to be worked through. It connects and sounds great even going down the highway at 75 to 80 mph. Now mind you the bike that these speakers are on is a honda vtx 1300 so it is not a loud bike. The 600 watts is enough for this bike.

Sounded great until the amp stopped working after several days of use. Maybe it was a defective one. Other than that I would of been ok with the kit.

Product Research

Features

Amplifier Inputs: The amp has four inputs; RCA jacks on the amp, a female 3.5mm mini-jack on the amp, a male 3.5mm mini-plug attached to the amp with a 6' cord, and wireless Bluetooth. All four are inputs are live simultaneously, so if more than one is connected, selection must be made by turning all but one source off.

Note: If more than one source connected to the line inputs (RCA and 3.5mm) is turned on, it's likely you'll hear static through the speakers in addition to music, even if the source is muted or paused.

Speaker Mounting: The speakers are designed to mount to a round tube using the adjustable stainless steel clamps. Six different spacer sizes are included for use with tubes from 5/8" to 1-1/2" (approximately). Once the speakers are in place, but before the brackets are tightened, you can adjust the mounting angle. After mounting, the speakers can still swivel almost 360°.

Wiring: All the wiring is fixed length and already attached to the speakers and amplifier. Each speaker has a 37" input wire attached and the wires from both speakers are attached to a single Molex plug. The power and ground wires extend 74" from that same Molex plug and power wire has a 5 amp in-line fuse. The 22" speaker output wires are attached to the amplifier and terminated with the mate to the speakers' Molex plug.

Volume: The rotary volume control has a 76" cable attached that plugs into the amp and mounts in a round hole in a panel, 0.27" diameter.

Dimensions:

  • Speakers:
    • Width: 4-1/8"
    • Height: 4-1/4"
    • Mounting Height: 5-1/2" (above center of the bar to which the speaker is mounted)
    • Depth: 4-3/4"
  • Amplifier:
    • Width: 2-5/8" (3-1/8" including mounting flange)
    • Height: 1-5/8"
    • Length: 3-5/8" (4-5/8" including wiring)

Specifications:

  • Voltage: 10-16 volts DC
  • Power Rating: 120 watts (RMS) / 600 watts (Peak)
  • THD: <0.1%
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: >85 dB
  • Channel Separation: >50 dB
  • Frequency Response: 80 Hz - 15 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 150 mV - 1 V

Extended Warranty: Units purchased from Crutchfield after 3/1/2015 carry an extended warranty relative to purchases from Boss' standard dealer network. The new warranty is 3 years parts and labor.

Reviews. Most of them were good. Hopefully the lower cost won't mean poor quality. [ 111111111111111111111  Oct 10, 2016 ]

Q
Does the MC420B amplifier have a power switch to turn off so it does not drain the battery?
[ Bill  Mar 12, 2019 ]
3 answers
A
Negative. I used one of those fuses with the wire soldered on it and plugged my power wire into that wire. I used that fuse in place of my accessory fuse. So turned on and off with the key. Hope that helps Enter
[ Shane  Mar 13, 2019 ]
A
No, you will need to install a 2.00 relay.. However, you can install a toggle switch and manually switch on/ off also.
[ Thurman  Mar 12, 2019 ]
A
No wired directly to fuse box ignition
[ Michael  Mar 12, 2019 ]
Q
HOW DOES IT POWER OFF....WHEN BIKE IS OFF?
[ BOB  Dec 25, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Connect the primary 12volt power wire (Red) to a switched output in the fuse panel to ensure the system does not draw any power when the bike is off.

Q
Could I wire this to a marine subwoofer and amplifier without having to buy a head unit/stereo? Basically could I get to wear the speakers and amp in this system and the sub and amp all play together from the Bluetooth device?
[ Harrison  Jun 29, 2014 ]
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Boss MC420B is a stand alone system and can't be wired to any other speaker or amps. If you are looking to do multiple speakers and amps that will be best served using a receiver as well. Sorry we didn't have better news on that. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Can you wire these speakers to a head unit/stereo and sub or is it just for Bluetooth use?
[ Harrison  Jun 29, 2014 ]
2 answers
A
It can be wired to any audio source using the rca outputs on the amp. I didn't use the Bluetooth feature. Had a stereo 3.5mm to dual rca and plug into my cell phone.
[ Eli  Jun 29, 2014 ]
A
Use the mini cable from the amp to plug into your Stereo unit U can use either Bluetooth or hard cable by mini in or out amplification Hope that helps
[ REID C  Jun 29, 2014 ]
Q
How are these speakers powered? Do the have to connect to the battery?
[ Alan  May 13, 2014 ]
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: It appears there is an amplifier that comes with the speakers and in that case it would require power from the battery. The problem is the information is still preliminary so I cannot confirm that is the case. It does mention this which hints the amplifier connection to the battery: This MC420B speaker system from Boss can satisfy your needs. It's weatherproof: the MC420B's components, including the speakers, circuit boards, and amplifier connections, have been specially coated and sealed to protect against damage from water and weather. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
