iPod®, iPhone®, and iTunes® tagging
Use the handy front-panel USB input to connect and control your iPod or iPhone, so you can blaze through your songs and playlists with the KD-HDR60's controls. You can also switch over to the iPod's controls so your passengers can pick the tunes. All song and artist info will show up on the receiver's 2-line display.

Once your iPod's connected, just tune in to an HD Radio station to take advantage of the tagging feature — just "tag" a song you like, and you'll be prompted to buy your tagged tunes from the iTunes® store the next time you connect your iPod to the computer.

Other ways to play your music
This versatile stereo will handle all your CDs and recordable discs, as well as discs or or thumb drives you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You can connect a portable satellite radio to the auxiliary input, or permanently install a JVC satellite radio tuner. The KD-HDR60 also works with JVC's Bluetooth® adapter for even greater flexibility.

Killer sound from any source
An advanced digital-to-analog converter delivers your music with new realism and clarity, and the built-in amplifier gives you plenty of clean volume without distortion. You'll appreciate the extra flexibility that the 7-band equalizer offers for dialing in the right sound for your vehicle.

Looking to add bass?
Two sets of 2.5-volt preamp outputs lets you add amps and subs to your system. The subwoofer output features a selectable low-pass filter, and you can add just the right amount of bass with the subwoofer level control.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Variable Color LCD and Key Illumination: The JVC KD-HDR60 features 29 color presets for the LCD display and button illumination. Additionally, there is a user preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except Eject, EQ, and display; those remain red. You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination or use a separate color for each one.  You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD display and button illumination.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12 volts is applied to the illumination lead).

Clock Display: While playing a CD, you can switch between the clock display and the CD elapsed time display (the track number always appears). While listening to the radio you can switch between the clock display and the station frequency display. When you press the Display button during power off, the unit will turn on, display the clock for 5 seconds, then shut off. This can be done with the ignition on or off.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-HDR60 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-HDR60 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-HDR60 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-HDR60 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

7-Band Intelligent EQ (i-EQ): The JVC KD-HDR60 is equipped with a 7-Band Intelligent EQ (i-EQ) and 6 user presets (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Bass Boost, Vocal Boost, and User). The User EQ preset allows you to manually adjust the headunit's 7-band parametric EQ(Sub Bass, Bass, Mid Bass, Mid, Mid High, High, and Ultra High) from +/-10dB.

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-HDR60 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to Low, the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to High, and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. When all speakers in the system are powered by an external amplifier, the internal amplifier can be turned off.

Subwoofer Output: In addition to the 2.5 volt front preamp outputs, this unit has a set of 2.5 volt subwoofer preamp outputs. The subwoofer output is non-fading and has independent level control, adjustable from 00 to 08, and an adjustable low-pass crossover. You can select a cutoff frequency of Low (72 Hz), Mid (111 Hz), or High (157 Hz).

Note: This headunit is not equipped with a rear-channel preamp output.

Source Volume: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -1 to +10.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash headunit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

DiAS II Digital Tuner: This model is equipped with JVC's Digital Intelligent Advanced Sensing tuner that is capable of receiving digital (HD Radio) and analog AM/FM stations.

Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality with static free and clear reception.

Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).

iTunes Tagging: Using the headunit's iTunes Tagging enabled HD Radio, you can tag your HD music (up to 60 songs) while listening to the radio with your iPod connected. When you hear a song you enjoy on your local HD Radio station, you only have to press the headunit's "Tag" button and the song's information will be saved to your connected iPod. The saved songs will then show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the very next time you sync your iPod to your PC. Then you just need to click, buy, and download the song you tagged directly from the Apple iTunes Music Store.

Note: The following model iPods/iPhones support iTunes Tagging - iPod nano (3rd/4th/5th/6th), iPod classic (80/120/160GB), iPod touch (1st/2nd/3rd/4th), iPhone (2G/3G/3GS/4).

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Display Information: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC KD-HDR60.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KD-HDR60 can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KD-HDR60 to search both analog and digital radio stations,  only HD Radio stations, and analog radio stations only.

Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually, or automatically using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).

Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

    • XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio connect the optional CNP2000UCA XM Direct2 tuner and the JVC CNP-JVC1 adapter cable (package item number 700XMJVC2, sold separately).
    • SIRIUS: The JVC KD-HDR60 is compatible with the SiriusConnect Universal Tuner and Plug & Play Dock.
      • SiriusConnect Tuner: Connect the optional SC-C1 SiriusConnect vehicle tuner (item number 607SCC1) and the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item number 105KSRA100) - package # 700SIRJVC1, sold separately.
      • SiriusConnect Dock: Select dock-and-play and portable SIRIUS radios can be controlled using the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item number 105KSRA100, sold separately) and the SC-VDOC1 dock (item number 607SCVDOC1, sold separately).
    • Auxiliary Input: A portable XM or Sirius satellite radio receiver can be connected to the head unit via the front panel auxiliary input or a JVC auxiliary input adapter, such as the KS-U57 or KS-U58 (sold separately).
Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

    Disc Playback

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-HDR60 can play MP3 (32-320 kbps)/WMA files (32-320 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from damage; playback starts automatically.

Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    USB/iPod/Aux Connectivity

USB Port: The JVC KD-HDR60 features a front panel USB 2.0 type-A port behind a sliding cover for connection of a USB mass-storage class device (FAT 12/16/32). The USB port enables audio playback and control of MP3/WMA (32-320 kbps) audio files stored on a portable USB mass-storage class device. The KD-HDR60 can recognize up to 255 folders (255 files per folder) and 65,025 total files. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA files.

Note: You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

iPod Direct: The JVC KD-HDR60's front-panel USB port also acts as an iPod high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod. Menu options allow iPod control from the headunit or from the iPod itself. From the headunit's front-panel controls you can search your iPod/iPhone's music by Category (Playlist/Artist/Album/Song/Genre/Composer). The KD-HDR60 also supports Repeat and Random playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. Regardless of control mode, the KD-HDR60 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file text. The iPod/iPhone is also charged whenever it is connected with the head unit turned on. The JVC KD-HDR60 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of Jan. 2010):
