All the best in digital music

Tired off digging around in your car to find the scratchy old CD you dropped between the seats? Ditch the discs and go digital with JVC's KD-X310BT. This digital media receiver handles all your music devices, plus it gives you a lot more power than your factory radio. Built-in Bluetooth® lets you enjoy hands-free calling and wireless streaming audio.

Ready for your Android™ phone

Android™ users can control Pandora® right from the stereo through the Bluetooth connection — no wires needed. JVC's Smart Music Control app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures — for example, make an upside-down "V" to change the source. With your Android phone safely attached to a mount, you can reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

The KD-X310BT plays MP3, WMA, WAV, and even FLAC files. Putting together a custom road mix on a thumb drive for a long trip? You can use JVC's Playlist Creator software on your Windows® PC to organize your music, so you can find the song you want in a flash with the JVC's controls.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

Siri® Eyes Free technology

If you're an iPhone user, this receiver gives you more than wireless control -- you get voice control. Talk to Siri to make calls, choose music, get directions, and more. Anything you can do with Siri can be done with this receiver.

The KD-X310BT is all about app control, too. Pandora® or iHeartRadio users can connect to the receiver and access basic controls like "play," "pause," "thumbs-up," and "thumbs-down" on the screen display. For added convenience, the 2-way control feature lets you pick music using the receiver's controls, or you can use the phone itself.

JVC KD-X310BT Digital Media Receiver

The simple control panel gives you access to a wide range of entertainment options.

Do more with your USB connection

The powerful 1A USB port lets you keep your smartphone charged while it's performing many battery-draining tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to your phone's internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another. You can even pair two phones at once, so you'll never have to decide between the personal phone and the work phone again. The Drive Change feature allows you to connect a memory card reader or USB hub to the JVC's USB input and select music from up to five memory cards or USB flash drives.

Expand your system

The KD-X310BT offers the connections you'll need if you're planning to build a complete car audio system sometime in the future. When it's time to add a powered sub, you can switch the rear preamp outputs over to subwoofer mode to control your bass from the receiver. A front aux input lets you hook up other gear, like a Dock & Play satellite radio.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KD-X310BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 2.1+EDR), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KD-X310BT. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KD-X310BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC  head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time).

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KD-X310BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KD-X310BT also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KD-X310BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KD-X310BT.You can search through your contacts alphabetically (A-Z) or numerically (0-9). Up to 400 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone.
      • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.
Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level and noise cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the JVC head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message. You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Metadata Display): The JVC KD-X310BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KD-X310BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The KD-X310BT also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Bluetooth via Bluetooth (not USB), the JVC KD-X310BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply press the "phone command" button on the KD-X310BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the KD-X310BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Bluetooth. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    USB/Aux Connectivity

USB Port: The JVC KD-X310BT features a front-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (behind a sliding cover) connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The USB port enables audio playback and control of MP3, WMA, WAV, and FLAC audio files stored on portable USB mass-storage class devices.

Note: When a mass-storage class (MSC) compatible smartphone is connected to the head unit's USB input, you can select its internal memory or external memory (such as a SD-card) for stored music playback.

JVC Playlist Creator Compatible: JVC Playlist Creator is a free Windows-based desktop software that helps organize, manage and transfer MP3/WMA music files to your USB (MSC) device from your PC. When you playback audio files that have been stored on your USB (MSC) device using JVC Playlist Creator through the KD-X310BT, you can search a file by song title, album name, artist name, or genre using the head unit's Quick Search function. The JVC Playlist Creator is a Windows-based software that can be downloaded for free from JVC's website to your PC. The unit's front-panel auxiliary input can be turned On or Off.

    Smartphone Integration

Android Compatible: The JVC KD-X310BT supports USB-connection and playback of Android smartphones with Froyo or Gingerbread operating systems installed.

    • JVC Music Control: By connecting the JVC receiver via USB to an Android smartphone (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only) that has the free JVC Music Control app installed, it allows you to list and search your MP3 music stored on the smartphone from the receiver by artist name or album name. The JVC Music Control app also analyzes all of your songs that are in your Android smartphone, and creates a playlist according to your mood. Once the application has completed the analysis of the songs, simply select your current mood, and this application will generate a list of songs that best fits your mood. Your compatible Android smartphone must be recognized as a USB mass storage class device; not compatible with MTP protocol.
    • Drive Change Mode: When an Android smartphone is connected to the USB input terminal, you can select its internal memory or external memory (such as an microSD card) to playback the songs stored on the phone or on the memory card. This feature is also compatible with other USB mass storage class compliant smartphones, such as Blackberry. You can also change drives (up to 5) on multi-drive devices, such as multi-card readers and USB hubs.

iPod/iPhone Connectivity w/ DAC Bypass: The JVC KD-X310BT's front-panel USB port can acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the Lightning or Dock cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music apps to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 105dB. The KD-X310BT's USB connection also offers music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit. You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the JVC head unit's front-panel controls or from your Apple device's clickwheel/touchscreen.

    • Head Unit Mode: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search for stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, and Composer. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically (A-Z) or numerically (0-9). The KD-X310BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. You'll also be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from select music apps streamed to your iPhone. During Head Unit Mode, the KD-X310BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information; such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label. Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen in this mode in order to access other applications; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • iPod/iPhone Mode: The iPod/iPhone Mode lets you control your older iPod/iPhone (iOS 5.1.1 and earlier) from its clickwheel or touchscreen. You'll still have access to basic playback controls (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) from the head unit, but advanced navigation functions will be locked. No song/artist information is displayed in this mode. The unit will simply display "iPhone Mode".
Note: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-X310BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KD-X310BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KD-X310BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)
Note: When you are using the KD-X310BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output + Sub Control: The KD-X310BT is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz. You can also adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between -8 and +8 (separate from the main volume level).

Pro EQ: The KD-X310BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 12 preset sound modes (Flat, Hard Rock, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Talk, vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Classical, Dance, User 1, or User 2) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Pro EQ
    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed
Note: You can store Pro EQ bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (Bluetooth, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Digital Track Expander: The digital Track Expander automatically enhances compressed music files and restores the original richness of the recording.
    • Bass Boost: The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies.
    • Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set this feature to High, Low, or Off.
    • Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display & Remote Features

Detachable Face: The JVC KD-X310BT features a detachable face to deter theft. No face-case is provided. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Single-Line LCD w/ Fixed Illumination: The head unit features a 11-segment, one-line LCD with white back-lit text and blue button illumination (fixed). Adjustable brightness and dimmer settings are available for the LCD and button illumination.

    • Brightness: The unit offers a daytime and nighttime brightness settings for the LCD and button illumination. You can adjust the brightness level of each manually from 0-31.
    • Dimmer: The unit's dimmer control can be set automatically or manually; select "Off" for daytime brightness setting, "On" for nighttime brightness setting, or "Auto" which switches between day and nighttime brightness setting automatically when you turn off/on the headlights (orange/white wire of harness must be connected to headlamp circuit).

Day & Time: The unit displays a 12-or 24-hour clock, as well as the day (Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat). The day & time can be selected to remain on, even if the head unit is switched off (as long as the vehicle's key is in the accessory or start position).

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu

Smart Music Control App (for Android): JVC's Smart Music Control App lets you view the current status and perform simple gesture or voice control of the JVC head unit from your Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.3+). The Smart Music Control App uses Bluetooth to communicate between your Android smartphone and the digital media receiver. The head unit will auto connect to the Smart Music Control app when your Smartphone is in range. The Smart Music Control app is specifically designed for easy gesture control or voice command operation while driving, so driver and passenger can access information with ease from the Android Smartphone. With the Smart Music Control App, passenger and driver can check current playing song details or other car stereo information.

    • Information Display: The JVC Smart Music Control App will display the head unit's source information, such as song/artist information and station identification. In addition, it provides EQ info.
    • Gesture Control: The JVC Smart Music Control App lets you use finger gesture commands on your Android smartphone to control the playback of the JVC head unit. This type of gesture control is designed to operate the JVC head unit from your smartphone without having to look at your smartphone. Gesture control operations include Finger tap, Finger hold, Finger click, Finger swipe (right/left/up/down), and Finger curve (right/left/up/down).
    • Voice Command: The JVC Smart Music Control App also lets you operate certain head unit function by voice commands. Voice commands include - Change Source, Search for Song/Artist/Album, Previous/Next Track, Repeat/Random, or Preset Select.

Wireless Remote Control: The KD-X310BT comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).

    [ BRYAN  Jan 05, 2015 ]
    A
Works with my iPhone 6 with just one annoyance. The volume control on the phone adjust the sound level as well as the knob on the front of the stereo. To make the sound levels between the FM radio, USB and Bluetooth match up the iPhone volume has to be turned all the way up. If you don't turn the volume back down when you're done you get a loud reminder in your ear once you are done pairing it with the radio. You can also leave the volume of the phone alone and crank up the volume of the radio and in this case you will get a loud reminder when you switch to the FM radio or USB.

I'm interested in how the USB flashdrive playback works. The instruction manual indicates folders can be selected, and also refers to playlists. - Does anyone know if there is a limit on how many folders and/or how many files per folder the unit will recognize? - Will the unit recognize playlists set up in windows, and will the unit recognize and allow selection from multiple playlists? - how many lines/characters per line does the display have when scrolling through a smartphone/ipod/usb drive? Thanks in advance
    [ Rob  Oct 26, 2014 ]

    A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The unit will recognize 999 folders/20,480 files (999 files per folder max) JVC's information on playlist playback is below: JVC Playlist Creator Compatible: JVC Playlist Creator is a free Windows-based desktop software that helps organize, manage and transfer MP3/WMA music files to your USB (MSC) device from your PC. The JVC Playlist Creator is compatible with the following Windows Microsoft Operating Systems. Windows XP Professional, Home Edition SP2 or later (32-bit) Windows Vista (32/64-bit) Windows 7 (32/64-bit) The display features a 11-segment, one-line LCD with white back-lit text and blue button illumination (fixed). Does not give a specific character per line number. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Is the display bright at night, or can you dim it sufficiently? I bought a Kenwood 5 years ago that you can practically use for a reading light. Not my favorite feature.

I have pretty decent sensitivity to light at night. I find it dims well. It has a day/night setting and you can enable it to automatically go to night mode when headlights are on or leave it manual and hit the dimmer button. Both settings have adjustability that allows you to set brightness for the buttons and the display independently in each mode. This is nice because my other stereo display (different brand) in another vehicle is very hard to see at night when fully dimmed, but the buttons are still pretty bright at full dim.
    [ Nathan  Jul 29, 2014 ]
    A
There is a dimmer on this unit. It has day, night and auto; I actually always keep it set to day. I'm very pleased with this unit as it fits very well in my 1983 VW Vanagon Westfalia. These older vehicles did not have the depth required for a CD player and would require adapter kits to bring it out of the dash (ugly). I really like that I can control the iPod through the USB (iPhone 5s) as well as the head unit. It comes with the hands free mic but it doesn't work that well for my vehicle due to the age of the vehicle and road noise. I give this unit 5 stars for the Bluetooth, USB and price. Jason.

You can dim it sufficiently...the face isn't the bright in the first place beside the blue on the buttons but you cam dim it low as u want....
    [ ROBERT  Jul 25, 2014 ]
    A
Yes it can be dimmed. I suffered an eye injury a few years ago which made me very sensitive to LED lights, especially at night. Not only can this unit be dimmed, but there are several color options that aid in this as well.

You can reduce it but it's still pretty bright at night but it's easy to read. In my malibu it's the daytime i can't seem to adjust right to read it but i got use to it and great media radio!

    [ Louis  Jul 25, 2014 ]
    A
Yes, this is a very nice stereo with great sound adjustment and it does have a light adjustment as well. The bluetooth feature is great as well. Make sure you check on your vehicle as well to see if you need the reminder ding module for like if your door is open or a check or warning ding comes on so you can hear it if it comes out through your speakers. Depends on vehicle.

The KD-X310BT is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz. You can also adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between -8 and +8 (separate from the main volume level).
