With the iPhone® in mind

Looking for a car stereo that you can operate like your iPhone? The JVC Arsenal KW-V820BT DVD receiver includes Apple CarPlay® which lets you control many of your iPhone functions directly from its 6.8" Active Touch Control monitor. You'll also enjoy a ton of media options, like Pandora® and SiriusXM, as well as sound-shaping controls to refine your sound. And JVC backs up this receiver with a 2-year warranty.

Apple CarPlay®

CarPlay integrates your iPhone into the driving experience in a seamless interface, putting iPhone content at the driver's fingertips with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

Go wireless with Bluetooth®

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks, along with the convenience of hands-free phone calls. This JVC lets you quickly switch between two paired phones — handy for vehicles with more than one driver. You can install the included wired microphone close to you, so callers can hear you loud and clear. You'll also get voice control when pairing an iPhone with Siri.

Whole lot of radio going on

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone® or Android™, you'll really dig playing music from Pandora and Spotify on this receiver. And you iPhone users can now tune into Apple Music for even more variety. If you're looking for radio stations that won't fade away when you drive out of town, add a SiriusXM tuner to this JVC to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming from coast to coast. The KW-V820BT also includes a sensitive AM/FM tuner to catch all your local stations too.

More media options

And when it's time to play your own music, this receiver also offers a DVD/CD player, a rear aux input for a portable music player, and a rear USB port that can handle your MP3, WMA, and WAV music files, as well as the music stored on your iPhone or Android. The display will show video when you're parked, and you can also feed video to optional screens you can add for your backseat crew.

User-friendly touchscreen controls provide quick access to all your media.

Settings for sight and sound

Once you've picked your tunes, you can tweak your sound by using a huge array of sound-sculpting controls, including a 13-band graphic equalizer and digital time alignment. JVC's K2 technology helps bring back the depth and detail for all your digital music sources. Because most car speakers are located down low in the doors, this receiver also offers Sound Lift, which adjusts your music's frequencies to virtually "raise" your speakers for better, more natural imaging.

Three pairs of hot 4-volt RCA preamp outputs provide an ultra-clean signal when it's time to add amplifiers to your system. JVC also includes variable color illumination and a customizable layout for the display, letting you pick the look that works in your dash.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The KW-V820BT offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included).

  • Ford SYNC systems: you'll be able to retain voice-controlled features, steering wheel audio controls, and factory audio functions
  • GM vehicles: you'll keep your steering wheel audio controls, your factory amp, safety warning chimes, and OnStar
  • Chrysler: you'll keep all your Uconnect functionality
  • Toyota: you'll keep your factory amplifer, auxiliary and USB inputs, rear-view camera, and steering wheel audio controls
  • Volkswagen: you'll retain the factory Bluetooth, the factory digital amplifier and fader, plus VW's media device interface

The iDatalink adapter also lets you tap into your vehicle's diagnostic port, so you can check out expanded functionality including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure monitor on the JVC's screen.

Note: JVC has confirmed that at this time this receiver will work with the iDatalink Maestro module to retain factory steering wheel controls, but it will NOT retain factory extras such as OEM Bluetooth and satellite radio, Ford Sync, GM OnStar, and Chrysler Uconnect. JVC should have a firmware update available by mid-August through the JVC website which will provide full compatibility with the iDatalink Maestro. Once the firmware update is available, apply it to your JVC receiver for support of factory extras; reflashing the iDatalink Maestro module is not necessary.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Great Radio, lots of tuning options. The controls were very easy to learn, learning to navigate to certain settings is tricky at first, but is a breeze once you figure out where everything is. Works great with my amplifier and subwoofers for HPF and LPF. Back up camera hooked right up. I have zero complaints about this head unit!

Pros: Loads of EQ/Tuning options High Resolution Screen HPF/LPF

Cons: Is a little tricky to learn settings at first

Not very good. When it is working, it is OK. It randomly reboots when the phone is plugged into it. Because of this I can't take advantage of the Carplay features if I want the stereo to reliably stay on. Seems stable when the phone is not plugged in. I tried updating firmware, but still have the same issue. User interface is kind of clunky, not well thought out. It is installed in a 2011 Chevy Traverse without Bose.

Everyone at Crutchfield is awesome!!! I just bought my new used cherry 2006 Mustang and needed a radio for this century. I did a lot or research and this one seemed the best value. Here's the kicker... I installed it myself!!! with the help of the Crutchfield teams step by step instructions, it was a piece of cake. Thank you, I never thought I could take on the installation and frankly everyone thought I would only mess up my car. Well, I did not and all is well. Thank you

I think it's a good product and fairly well thought out. The installation of the unit, steering wheel controller, and the back up camera took a solid weekend and about 4 calls into Crutchfield. I found that if i called Crutchfield at every "stage" of the process it worked better for me. These cars are involved and you need to hunt down one particular wire in order to make it all work. Be patient and don't rush. Thanks to the folks at Crutchfield. Fanstastic.

    2006 Hummer H3
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As other reviews have stated, the unit is glitchy. It changes functions without being instructed to do so. Sometimes it cuts off without hitting the off button and won't turn on again. It constantly re-sets itself. The interface is difficult to use, especially while driving. Just changing stations is taking your life in your own hands. Apple Car Play never worked, either.

    Pros: None.

    Cons: See review.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Puts CarPlay into a 10 year old truck. Probably not as integrated as a factory system but a good way to update your older ride.

Pros: All the good stuff of a modern car's sound system.

    Cons: None worth mentioning

Great technology upgrade for an older car/truck

    2008 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been considering buying a new truck to replace my 2008 Tacoma, but most of what I desired in a new truck was the technology. For less than one new truck payment I was able to bring my older truck into the modern era. My wife is impressed with all the tricks my new JVC system can do that her new Lexus can't. She also commented that it looked like it was a factory installation, thanks to the installation kit I bought with the receiver. I had never used SIRI on my Iphone, but from the very first voice command I used it has worked great. Now I wonder why didn't I do this sooner?

Pros: CarPlay...that's my primary reason for buying it. Touch screen works great, much easier than my Lexus's track pad. Integration with the steering controls that I added to my Tacoma. Voice commands make it easy to keep my eyes on the road.

Cons: That silly safety warning screen. Why hasn't someone hacked that yet?

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased 2011 bmw 328xi in March and installed this unit with bezels and steering wheel control unit and it works awesome. Couple things I saw on these reviews if you read the manual you will find out you need to play in settings for equalizer and loudness - this changes everything for sound quality and it is amazing. Because my Battery is in trunk I had to run the yellow wire back to it through the console and through back speaker but its ok - this will keep your preset setting for radio. Apple car play issues stem from IPhone not this unit. 1 you to have a certified apple cable and make sure that you update your iPhone now at 10.3.3 I have not had a reboot - Apple seems to have fixed the carplay issue.

Pros: Great interface easy to use. Crutchfield tech support is #1

Cons: you gotta read the book.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just got it professional installed. It took them over 3 hrs to install in a 2017 Honda Accord. Thank goodness I didn't install it. It would have taken me 3 days nor 3 hrs. So far good. Back up camera video was dark/dimmed but next day it looks normal. Got the radio for CarPlay!!! Didn't know you need to connect USB to get CarPlay. Thought BT is available for CarPlay. So far CarPlay is great. I can see CarPlay is addicted similar to iPhone. Receiver is intuitive and so far I like the receiver. Fun to play with the buttons.

Pros: CarPlay. With kit, easy on eye. remote control.

Cons: took the professionals over 3 hrs to install. Back up Camera was dark but fixed itself?

    Best CarPlay for the price

    2005 Ford Escape
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The absolute best apple CarPlay option on a budget. If you're wary about JVC, keep in mind JVC is a kenwood company. The screen is extremely responsive, the sound is great even on factory speakers (I'll be changing them out soon anyway). I've found it crashes sometimes if you try to do too much at once (switching between Spotify and maps too often for example).

Pros: Responsive screen, pounding lows, simple UI, price

Cons: The rear USB input is designed for cars with factory USB inputs, but an adapter allowed me to put a USB hub in a cigarette lighter. Volume can also only be changed when media is plugged in.

Bought this with the JVC speakers, install wasn't bad at all. It was my first install of a reciever in a car. Went very smoothly and support was great. most difficult part was getting the reverse wire and parking wire connected. You have to tie into your existing wiring harness, but support was able to do a good job on which wires I needed to tie into.

Got all the features that I was looking for in stereo upgrade in my Toyota Highlander. A lot of things to learn in getting the sound I like and most of all got the Apple CarPlay that I really wanted. To top it all, I was able purchase at a reasonable price. The harness that came with unit made all the worries about wiring disappear. I highly recommend this unit for those seeking to upgrade their factory stereo.

Pros: great sounding unit inputs for back up camera Bluetooth capability Apple CarPlay (even though it is wired)

Cons: Installation into the dash was a little workout. Like new things, a lot of new things to learn to fully utilize its capabilities - not really a con

I was looking for a DVD receiver for my f150 and checked several different models ranging from $300 to $3000. I finally decided to go with this and I could not be happier. I don't have any issues with glare as other reviewers have stated, but I also have tinted windows. This unit is easy to use and CarPlay is a plus as I'm an apple guy. The only issue I've had is my old iPod will sometimes freeze up(it did this with my stock stereo) so I can't blame the unit and most of my music is on my phone anyways. There's a lot of cool options here and I'm still learning some of them, but this is easy to use and I would definitely recommend it. Also, thanks to Mick and Andy from crutchfield for their help with the purchase process and helping me find what would be best for me!

User interface is intuitive - other than managing multiple Bluetooth devices. Finding the required parking brake wire adds a challenge to the install.

Pros: Sound, Display, Easy of Use, Carplay

Cons: Lack of a volume knob, required parking brake wire connection,

    2005 Ford Explorer
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This JVC KW-V820BT seems like a bargain at first, but the head unit I received was a lemon. The unit randomly powered off when the DVD player was in use. The Carplay feature was also glitchy -- sometimes it would work, and other times all Carplay features would cease working and the unit would only charge the iPhone. No error messages on the phone or receiver. The only way to workaround this was to reinitialize the head unit to factory settings, which meant I had to go back and reconfigure the device, the radio stations, my audio settings, my user interface settings, etc. Unfortunately the support experience I received from Crutchfield and JVC support was also poor. After the 90 day return policy, Crutchfield support is basically just there to tell you to contact the manufacturer. I don't understand why neither Crutchfield nor JVC can't send me a new unit and let me swap for the lemon. Instead, I have to pay to have the head unit shipped to a repair location in another state where they will keep it for nearly a month, and if it does not come back fixed, then I am out of luck. Crutchfield support doesn't understand why I have a problem with this. Lesson learned -- Don't buy a JVC, and don't order from Crutchfield.

Pros: Great bargain for the number of features, so it seemed.

Cons: Glitchy features, difficult and confusing user interface, randomly resets itself while DVD player is in operation, iPhone CarPlay won't always connect requiring the unit to be re-initialized to factory settings. Screen difficult to see in sunlight.

Crutchfield response on 5/22/2017 We're sorry you had a bad experience with this JVC receiver and the support, K. Our return policy is actually 60 days, and after that, we handle defective product inquiries by adhering to agreements we have with our vendors. The warranty on this JVC is two years, and when our Tech Support can't help with a defect in the product, we get you contact information to have the vendor take care of it within their warranty period.

Love it. Everything just works. I had a previous JVC touchscreen with navigation and loved it. But I wanted CarPlay. I was a little hesitant to change but am I ever glad I did. CarPlay works seamlessly and unit sounds great. Bluetooth is flawless and everything just logically works as it should. I have had no problems with it and highly recommend it. For the price you can't beat this unit.

Pros: CarPlay, Easier Streaming Radio, DVD, Sound, and Bluetooth

    Cons: Miss the audio knob

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed on my daughter's 2014 Nissan Sentra. This unit does exactly what she needed. I added rearview camera. The unit looks and sounds great. The ability to use Apple maps and texting without having to touch your phone is remarkable. I wanted to give her that to prevent her from using her phone while driving. The only wish I have is that it would support both iPhone and iPod at the same time. She has her music collection in an iPod since her iPhone has limited memory.

Pros: Works perfectly every time. Apple CarPlay. 2 USB Ports. Crystal clear hands free operation.

Cons: No support for 2 apple devices at once. - This is definitely not a deal breaker, but it would have been the icing on the cake.

    Looks and sounds great!

Easy installation and with the help of Crutchfield I got it working in no time in my 09 Nissan Altima. I've never installed stereo before this and Crutchfield made it so simple! The stereo works great and I haven't had a single problem yet! I do however wish you could be at Google maps on the CarPlay! Other than that I'm pleased with my purchase.

Pros: Everything on it works great and the touchscreen responds well. Sound quality is good

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Radio works great. I love having satellite radio again and the free (after rebate) xm module was a great bonus. The radio tuner is a little weak but I seldom use it. The backup camera feature is awesome. And Apple CarPlay lets me stream music, use my phone, navigate and do it all hands free with Siri. The installation was simple, especially with the included FREE install parts. Everything looks factory now that I'm done and I'm left with a fancy touchscreen radio like a brand new car without the big payment. The only issue was the factory screws for the radio were too short and the kit included screws, but none of those were right to screw it in the dash either. But 4 #8 1 1/4" screws for less than a dollar from the local hardware store fixed the problem (these really should be included in the kit since Crutchfield so boastfully claims to have figured out everything you need for the install). The only issue with the radio is MLB AtBat won't work with CarPlay, but that's an MLB software issue and isn't JVC or Crutchfield's fault.

Pros: Supper easy factory radio replacement, almost all required parts included, big screen, backup camera (camera was separate but inexpensive), satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth

Cons: Missing screws of the correct length to hold radio to dash (but fixed for less than a dollar at the hardware store). No HD Radio

Chris from Florida (FL) on 4/3/2017

I have had two of these radios between November 2016 and now (April 2017). I have a 2013 Kia Soul Eco model. I got the radio installed in December locally, and it was great for 2 weeks. Then all of the sudden, it would shut off, restart, shut off and restart again. I thought it was a fluke, but it continued to do it. Finally, the screen started to show "startup error," so I took it back to where I purchased it. To make a long long story short, they agreed to exchange it for another one. I've had the second one since February, and something that it has always been wrong on is the time. It's always 14 hours and 2 minutes ahead of Eastern time when set to GPS mode- the other radio did not do that, but I have read that there were issues with the older firmware that were supposed to have been corrected in the September update. My radio has the latest firmware, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Then last week on March 28th, 2017, it shut down and restarted and shut down again. I thought it was a fluke with the first one, and now I think the radio has some major malfunctions. I'm not sure what to do at this point. It continues to shut down and restart and shut down and restart again in bluetooth mode- at all times of the day (it's not affected by the temperature is my point). I like the radio, but this is ridiculous really. It only seems to happen in bluetooth mode, never in tuner or car play.

Pros: Nice sound, love the convenience and quick bluetooth connectivity

Cons: Time is always wrong, bluetooth mode causes radio to shut off and restart mutiple times- have been through 2 radios and both have done this.

So far I have had this unit for 3 weeks and my wife loves it. I did the install myself and it was super easy. Its really easy to bypass the parking brake with this unit without have a switch or some other way. You just need to ground it. I would buy another one for my car. The Bluetooth works great and the mic is very clear compared to just using your speaker phone. I highly recommend especially if you have apple products like my wife. The dvd player and screen also work great. Picture is very clear and makes it enjoyable for the passengers to watch a movie while driving.

Pros: Read the review. Crutchfield rep gave me $20 off so I got some install tools for free.

Cons: nothing so far in first 3 weeks of use.

Purchased this for a grand-daughter who had approached me for a touchscreen radio. After purchasing this receiver and finding the "close out" price I purchased another for a second grand-daughter. This is the second grand-daughter's review. "I love everything about it. Sound actually seems better than my old JVC receiver. The blue tooth connect is much quicker than old radio; almost instantaneous. Car Play is great, I like being able to incorporate Siri function to make calls and send/receive texts. Having functional APPs on the radio screen is an added plus function. The only down side is having to unplug phone when a private conversation is necessary. Such a great piece of equipment with so many functions I don't think I will ever use them all. But I'm gonna try."

Pros: Great sound. Apple Car Play is wonderful. Features, features, and more features.

Cons: Have to unplug phone for private conversations, but would have to do the same for any blue tooth through car radio.

I actually had to have a second unit crossed shipped to get completely up and running with this unit. After the first one was installed I found out that the Apple CarPlay feature, which was the primary reason I purchased this unit, would not work at all. I really want to highlight the folks that help you with the install at Crutchfield. It was due to a very observant tech support person's question that I was able to get this resolved. The folks that I spoke with were absolutely awesome and helpful, and knew what they were doing and talking about. I truly appreciate them and their help. As far as the JVC unit, install was relatively easy. The parts that were supplied allowed for a successful hook up. Now that it's hooked up, I have to say, that I'm enjoying radio again!! I have the JBL sound system that is in my 2003 Avalon, and it makes the system sound brand new. The controls are relatively simple to deal with. CarPlay does work, and work well, I just can't use apps that are not CarpPlay apps, (like Waze). If I switch to bluetooth I can use those apps. I recommend that you read through the manual on this system. There are a lot of features and configurations you may not realize are there until you dig a little deeper.

Pros: Sounds great! Apple CarPlay Bluetooth functionality. Great Sound.

Cons: Screen is bright at night.

So far this has been an excellent purchase. The JVC stereo was an excellent update to the factory stereo, was easy to Install, and operates exactly as I expected with one exception: it doesn't allow for a wireless CarPlay connection as I wrongfully assumed it would. This is not thee fault of JVC or Crutchfield (whose installation guides were excellent). Just offering it as a heads up to others.

Update: January 14, 2017: Firmware update installed and most everything below seems to now be corrected, but still living with one Major flaw. I won't improve my review until JVC addresses, and there has not been a firmware update since September 2016. Remaining Major Flaw: The unit will completely lose audio output, randomly. The only resolution is to completely turn off the vehicle for at least 18 seconds. Highly inconvenient, and truly random in timing (meaning you never know when the audio will go out). Sometimes I can drive an hour without issue, sometimes less than 15 minutes... I am working on isolation patterns and starting to believe it may be only when I am using the integrated SiriusXM function??? More to come, but I still would not recommend this product. Original Review below: OK, there are a slew of issues with this new platform. I'll post more as JVC works through firmware updates. The Good - Great feature set, BT, Sirius, CarPlay, etc. Screen is nice, but highly reflective so you could have problems viewing in bright sunlight. Great sound, major improvement over Toyota head unit (replaced a JBL unit). The Bad - Doesn't hold GPS date; BT has major issues (only have iPhones) with pairing and autoconnecting. I also suspect BT is causing system-wide sound shutdown (explained later); CarPlay is cool in concept but has a long way to go (Needs Apple Airplay capability or many more apps) The Ugly - System wide shutdown of audio requires you to tu

I replaced my factory unit in my 2014 Mazda 5 with this JVC and it ROCKS. I have it paired with a Pioneer 8.25" HVT-Sealed 150-Watt Active Subwoofer and they work very well together. Everything works as advertised, I especially love the Apple CarPlay feature. So awesome. Only complaint I have is that sometimes it won't let me switch to Pandora from iHeart Radio and vice-versa, but I wonder if the next firmware update fixes this - or maybe it's an Apple OS thing, or a bug witin the Apps. Hard to pin the blame when there are at least 3 possibilities. but I can still switch between those manually, when it's safe to do so. Else, the Maps feature works great and I can listen to my tunes at the same time. I love the various equalizer and speaker settings too. I would have also liked for it to have some kind of valet/security code feature, but that was not a deal breaker for me.

Pros: Excellent built in amp Easy user interface Apple CarPlay Can store up to 4 custom user equalizer settings Can configure sound output based on different speaker sizes and their location in the car. Truly amazing.

Great system that was easy to install. Touch screen, car play and all features work well. Liked the fact I could change the color of the buttons to match the red lighting in my car. Would give it 5 stars but I installed it in a convertible and the contrast on the screen is difficult to see with the top down. The "lift" feature and individual speaker settings are the best I have seen and the unit produces crisp, clear sound and excellent bass.

I love the CarPlay functionality, which was the primary reason i chose this model. The bluetooth functionality is much better than other units I've used. The sound is great, of course I upgraded my speakers at the same time, not too much power for those that really like to jam. I was already planning to add an amplifier for a subwoofer but now I'll likely buy a five channel amp to drive my speakers a little more. Once you figure out the menu's it's pretty easy to get to all the settings you want. For those of you with a usb power plug in at your dash.... I was able to plug the receiver from the female a usb provided by jvc for the iphone connection into the back of the usb plug with a mini usb (i think). Now I can just plug my iphone into the factory usb port and it connects to my receiver and allowing me to utilize the CarPlay. Pretty slick if you ask me.

Pros: CarPlay, excellent display, lot's of options

Cons: lower output power than some others

I mostly use this unit for its Carplay functions. Integration with Carplay is good (or as good as some other units from what I have seen on the internet) and the sound coming out of my 18-year-old Bose speakers is very good with just the default setting. I tried to play with some sound adjustments (and the unit supports plenty) but still like the default sound the best. For the price and the support I got from Crutchfield support team, I'm really happy with the purchase. One thing that's a little tricky to do is adjusting different volume settings in Carplay. Volumes for Siri and navigation are not tied to the unit's master volume and can only be adjusted when Siri or navigation functions are "speaking". This is not mentioned in the manual and took a little while to figure out (not supposed to mess with settings while driving). Not sure if this is more Apple or JVC, but I hope to see this improved in the next software/firmware update.

    Pros: Supports Carplay. Great sound.

Cons: Carplay volume adjustment. No Android Auto support. But for the price, I can't really complain about it.

Works great. I like having maps on the dash, especially with the contacts from my phone. I also installed a backup camera which is very nice to have. I wish I knew this before I did the install-the radio has an option to display the camera even when not in Reverse, but to do this the camera would need power full time, not just with Reverse. The DVD on the dash is cool, not sure I'll ever use it though.

After a lot of research i decided to go with the JVC. I was specifically looking for an apple CarPlay unit and am very happy with its performance. The resistive touch screen is very responsive and the resolution is great, others complained of sun glare but in my opinion it is a non issue. I connected with the data maestro rr and am very pleased with the real time data from my 2007 Silverado. The sound is excellent and the tuner is very receptive to am and fm signals, although I use tune-in radio mostly. Crutchfield suport is awesome and my experience with Brooke was great.

I originally did not want to spend a ton on a head unit, but after a less than stellar experience with the Soundstream (see my review on the VR-65XB), I ponied up the cash and jumped on this unit since it was on sale. I wanted a unit that would pair nicely with the JBL 6500C 6.5" and the JBL 9630 6"x9"s. This head unit did *not* disappoint. I haven't even fully explored the unit, but I primarily listen to music streamed from the phone over Bluetooth and radio. The sound quality is tremendous. Everything is crystal clear and I have more than you would expect from the sound range from the speakers. I have no sub and really don't need one. I enjoy quality sound that I can adjust for the optimum listening experience and this unit makes that possible and easy to attain. I figured since this unit was on sale I could swallow it ( and it still hurt a bit when I bought it). There's *zero* buyer's remorse on my end, especially since I've seen what the lower end doesn't have to offer. This unit was worth every penny. I have no problems recommending this unit to anyone.

Pros: A plethora (yes, El Guapo, a plethora) of EQ and sound customization controls. Fit and finish - nice flush mount, superb screen, nice touch response. Plenty of configurable EQ presets. Did I mention the sound quality? ;-)

Cons: EQ Menu is kind of buried - needs a shortcut. There is a little static in the Bluetooth connection when no music is playing. Not sure where that is coming from, but once music starts playing you can't hear it anymore. I'm wondering if it has an impact on the music quality over BT.

Nice stereo. I had purchased a cheaper Navigation unit, which had a nice navigation system, but the radio was weak. I purchased an FM booster, but it only boosted the static. Crutchfield customer service was their normal outstanding. I returned the radio and purchased this JVC unit. Now I can listen to my NPR stations with no static and the radio is as user-friendly as my iPhone. I use my Apple Maps, so it's like having Navigation and the layout is nicely done. I would rate the radio a A+, but the screen is glossy and a bit hard to see in some lighting. I also purchased the back up cameral and I love the way it makes parking my large truck so much easier. I give the JVC KW-V820 an A- due to screen glare, but Crutchfield customer service the usual A+.

Pros: Good radio reception, nice layout, easy to use & works nicely with back up camera

I'm very happy with my purchase. Apple CarPlay is going to take some getting used to. I'm a Wazer so CarPlay gets strange trying to listen to music or a book while using Waze but maybe Apple and Waze can get something worked out soon... The install was super easy. The wiring harness was perfect. Total install was about 3 hours with distractions. I have stock speakers in my Jeep JK but added the Sony XDP-PK1000 Digital Link Sound System on closeout for $200 through Crutchfield a few years back. Basically, this added an amp and a 12" sub. I was unimpressed with the Sony DSP; minimal tuning options, no way to tune anything but the sub and you were really only able to adjust the gain of the sub, not the frequencies. It seems like the DSP blocked the lowest lows from the sub so it could really sing high bass but the lowest bass was missing. The amp and sub did give the jeep a little boom which was nice but without a crossover to tune the other speakers, the stock speakers popped and rattled when you tried to really crank the sound. Replacing the stock head unit with the JVC and doing 3 minutes of tuning with the built-in crossover and, OH MY WORD! It sounds like I've replaced everything in the jeep. The sub sounds much better, great thumping lows, no popping or rattling (for the most part) out of the stock speakers. I'll replace the stock speakers soon to finish out the upgrade but this JVC alone is an awesome improvement!

Pros: Sound management! The speaker settings and crossover built into the unit is awesome.

Cons: App CarPlay app switching means I'm looking at the boring CarPlay home instead of "Now Playing" when navigating with Waze on my iPhone.

For the money, this is a solid buy if you are looking for a CarPlay compatible radio. It's got lots of settings, lots of inputs, the screen works good (although it does get washed out by direct and intense sunlight). I have mine installed in my 2000 Civic EX. Using my iPhone 6+, the Maps app works great, Music is easy to access via Apple Music and Pandora, and it's easy to listen to and compose text messages using the included remote mount microphone. I was wondering what the included GPS antenna was for since this unit does not have Navigation built in, but digging into the owner's manual I saw it was to "assist" the iPhone's maps functionality (the Alpine ILX-007 in my truck has no such external antenna and it works great with Maps). I've got an aftermarket rearview camera hooked up to it, the response time to show the camera view is very quick and you can have the radio include guidelines or turn them off (in case the camera draws them already). To share an experience with the radio in case anyone runs across it: I went to update the software from version 2.5 to 2.6 and the install choked at the end and it appeared the radio was completely "bricked". A quick talk with JVC tech support noted that the radio "doesn't like" USB drives greater than 4 gigs, so I tried the software update using a 4 g drive instead of the 16 g that I originally used and that did indeed work. Biggest Gripe: no FF/RR buttons during CarPlay except on "Now Playing" scr

Love this headunit thus far! The sound shaping and sound from this unit is oustanding! I have had other JVC headunits with DSP and this one does not disappoint. The headunit is difficult to see during certain times of the day but the convenient remote control and voice commands makes that a non issue. Beside...you should be driving not entertained by the screen.. I am just beginning to use the CARPLAY feature which was the reason for not buying a NAV unit as I plan it use NAV from my phone via CARPLAY.

Overall this is a great unit with amazing sound, tons of options and technology. It does everything it says in the ad, just a few things to note: only a few apps work on apple car play, luckily Spotify does but sadly Waze does not (works great with phone, address book, maps, messages). The screen is near impossible to see on a sunny day. No controls work until you accept the warning every time you turn the car on, so don't leave the stereo cranked up! Apple maps works for navigation but there is no built in navigation, your phone must be plugged in. My car has a built in amplifier that sometimes doesn't turn on until you adjust the sound, no idea why.

Pros: Amazing sound quality, tons of options/functions, apply car play

Cons: Cannot see screen during a sunny day, Must accept warning everything it turns on (cannot change anything until warning is accepted), not enough apps that work with apple play (mainly Waze)

Great unit. I've always been a fan of JVC and got this as soon as I saw this. I opted to install myself when the chain store I only impulse buy had everything in stock for my 2015 Wrangler. The install was easy enough with the paired interface. I have my steering wheel controls functioning perfect. CarPlay is mostly passive but is gorgeous with siri and album art. CarPlay updates should be coming soon for developers too so voice access for other apps will be possible. The dvd player functions alright but I probably won't use it much. I use the CarPlay usb for my phone and the other usb with a thumb drive (Fat32) with pictures, videos and music for no signal entertainment and wallpapers. I haven't installed a rear camera yet but should have one installed by the end of the week just because it seems easy enough to have the functionality now. As far as sound goes its leagues above the stock unit I had without changing any of the speakers. Solid.

Pros: 100% better than my stock head.

Cons: Carplay can only get better. It remembers where I park at work which is awesome. I dont have any cons really.

So I've already listed some pros and cons, but I'll discuss a few things more in detail here. Also, I did not install this unit myself, and just paid someone to install it for me. However, I have purchased another unit before and Crutchfield does a really good job with providing everything you need. I did not have to buy anything extra, which was nice. 1. CarPlay. I really wanted to try it out. Now I have, and I love it. Love the interface way better, and love that the updates are controlled by Apple. One problem I see is you can't have another app open on your phone like Google Maps (at the time of writing this) while a carplay app is open, like Music. 2. No Android Auto, which really is disappointing. I hope they update to include it in the future, assuming the hardware can support it. 3. The screen. So nice and clear at night. Really bad during the day. Using maps on the screen during the day is simply not possible. However, this problem applies to most other units, not just JVC. I bought some anti-reflective / glare reduction covers, and they help a bit. You can also get a CD hold "cover" to cover the top of the screen. 4. There's a few cool things in here. Gesture support for playback control, backup camera easy to plugin, option to change between carplay and "regular phone" connection. 5. I have no wheel controls, nor the iDataLink Maestro module. So no comments there. I do wish I could hide those things from the screen though. 6. I love the all-black design of th

Pros: 1. Car Play! Main reason I bought it. 2. Amazing settings for audio. Lots of options. Makes my old system sound definitely better. Hands down a winner here! 3. Gestures to control playback. Pretty cool. For example, swipe right to next, make a circle to increase volume, etc. 4. Fairly responsive touch. 5. Two bluetooth being connected at the same time.

Cons: 1. Biggest Problem: Reflection. Seriously? I spent a lot of money on this and I simply can't use it on a sunny day? That's not acceptable. Can't see anything during the day. Plus, the unit as is right now, has no options to change color, saturation, etc. So I can't even customize it to make it a bit better. 2. When I bought the unit, the screenshots had various views, which sadly were not in this model. Crutchfield have since removed said images, but still a bummer. Looked nice :( 3. No Android Auto.

There is only one physical push-button control on the KW-V820BT's front-panel, and that is the Power On/Off button.

    • Clear Resistive Touchscreen: The 6.8" clear resistive touchscreen with high-transparency and high-luminance makes icons easy to see and function easy to use. The clear resistive touchscreen offers better visibility and is more responsive when compared to conventional resistive touchscreen panels.
    • Gesture Control: In addition to basic touch control, the 6.8" touchscreen offers Gesture Control features which let you operate certain functions of the head unit by making specific gesture commands on the unit's touchscreen. You can adjust the volume of the DVD receiver by making a circular motion with your finger on the unit's touchscreen. You'll also be able to navigate your music by simply swiping the touchscreen left/right or up/down.
    • Video Screen: The 6.2" video screen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. While watching a video, you can change the video screen's aspect ratio to Full (16:9), Just (4:3 LB), or Normal (4:3), or Auto (automatically selects to match incoming video signal). You can also adjust the video screen's display brightness, contrast, color, tint, and black level to suit your viewing needs during video playback.
Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire of wiring harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork, as well as CarPlay.

El Kameleon Design: The KW-V820BT features JVC's El Kameleon "stealth" design which totally blacks out the 6.8" touchscreen and 6.2" inset video screen when the head unit is powered off or your vehicle is turned off; there is no backlit illumination at all when the receiver or vehicle is off. There is still a JVC and SiriusXM logo, plus the KW-V820BT's model number on the front-panel.

Display Settings: You can make the following adjustments to the head unit's touchscreen display to better fit your application and needs.

    • Custom Home Screen & Backgrounds: You can customize the head unit's Home Screen by rearranging the icons and moving the icons of the four most sources you use most to this screen. You can also choose between nine preset background images or download your own still image (800 x 480) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
    • Variable Color Illumination: The touchscreen panel's color and button illumination can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, red, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, or aqua. You can also choose to have the unit constantly scroll through all eight preset color. In addition, you can create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue.
    • Clock Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing and holding the Power button turns the unit off completely.
    • Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Sync (dims or brightens when the headlight switch is turned on or off).

Remote Control: The JVC KW-V820BT offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and comes with an wireless remote control (RM-RK258) for added convenience.

    Audio & DSP Section

High-Resolution Audio Playback: You can enjoy playback of 96kHz/24bit audio which contains about 3 times the musical information of music CDs (44.1kHz/16bit), or even 192kHz/24bit High-Resolution Audio files with their approximate 6.5 times data volume. With high sound quality approaching the original master recording itself, you will experience the presence and ambience of a tune the way CD simply cannot.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KW-V820BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KW-V820BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KW-V820BT is equipped with 6ch/4.0V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, Subwoofer). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.  You can adjust the KW-V820BT's subwoofer output level (-50 to +10) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume. You can also adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).

K2 Technology: K2 is a JVC original technology that reproduces the original master sound by expanding the bit rate and frequency range. K2 is compatible with all sources including CD. For example, K2 will expand the digital data of the audio CD recorded at 44.1kHz/16 bit to 48 kHz/24 bit, and recreate the high-frequency range above 20kHz that is cut during the CD formatting.

Sound Optimization: The JVC KW-V820BT offers a vast array of sound adjustment functions to fine-tune and customize the acoustics of your car stereo system exactly the way you want.

    • Equalizer: Use the JVC head unit's built-in EQ to adjust the sound to your taste. Each frequency of the 13-Band EQ (100Hz, 160Hz, 250Hz, 400Hz, 630Hz, 1kHz, 1.6kHz, 2.5kHz, 4kHz, 6.3kHz, 10kHz, & 16kHz) can be adjusted from -9 to +9. Or, simply choose from one of eight preset sound modes (Flat, Pops, Easy, Top40, Jazz, Powerful, Rock, or User 1-4) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The unit's Volume Link EQ boosts specific frequencies in the audio signal to compensate for the impact of road noise. It boosts frequencies in the music that are affected by road noise.
    • Time Alignment: By selecting the car type, speaker type, and the distance to the center of the listening position, the head unit will automatically adjust the timing of the sound output from each of the speakers so that the sound from each of the speakers will arrive exactly at the same time to the listening position. The Front Focus feature even lets you localize the sound image in front of a selected seat.
    • Sound Effects: The KD-R975BTS offers adjustable Sound Effects to provide a better listening experience inside your vehicle. Use the "Space Enhancement" feature to virtually broaden the soundstage inside your vehicle. Use the "Sound Lift" feature to virtually lift the sound to ear level. And use the "Sound Response" feature to virtually make the sound more realistic and live inside your car.
    • Loudness, Bass Boost & Bass Extension: The Loudness feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies at any volume level. There is also a Bass Extension feature which further enhances the unit's bass output.

High Pass & Low Pass Crossovers: Allows you to set high-pass and low-pass crossovers for a Front, Rear, and Subwoofer speaker setup. You can independently customize the high-pass crossover for the front & rear speakers, with a separate low-pass crossover for the sub output.

    • Frequency: Choose between 30Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 70Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 150Hz, 180Hz, 220Hz, 250Hz, or Through (Full-Range).
    • Slope: Select from -6dB, -12dB, -18dB, or -24dB.
    • Gain: Adjustable between -8 to 0 dB.

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to +6.

Dynamic Range: The dynamic range can be adjusted by selecting either Normal, Wide or Dialog. Dialog makes the total sound volume become larger as compared with Wide and Normal, allowing you to listen to the movie's dialogue more clearly. This is effective only on Dolby Digital content material.

Source Beep: The in-dash receiver provides an audible beep to confirm source selection. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV + OEM Connectivity

AV Input: The JVC KW-V820BT DVD receiver is fitted with a rear-panel minijack (3.5mm) audio/video input to connect external AV sources, such as a game system, Blu-ray player, or TV tuner.

Rear Camera In: The rear-panel Camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (sold separately). By connecting a rear view camera, you can use the in-dash receiver's touchscreen LCD to see what's behind you when backing up.

    • Parking Guide Lines: When a rear-view camera is connected and you are viewing a rear view image, parking guide lines appear on-screen making parking easy and safer. There are three color-coded horizontal guidelines and two vertical guidelines.
    • Rear-View Auto Switching: The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire of wiring harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

AV Output (with Dual Zone): The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output AV signals to an optional monitor and headphone system. The unit's AV output can be set to Disc, AV-In, or Off. Volume of the second zone can be controlled by the navigation receiver or your rear entertainment system.

GPS Receiver & Antenna: The JVC  head unit features a built-in GPS receiver and comes with a GPS antenna to enhance the performance of the unit's navigation map from CarPlay.

OEM Integration: This JVC DVD receiver is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro RR (794ADSMRR, sold separately); a web programmable module that will permit the aftermarket JVC receiver to work with select Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles that feature the factory SYNC system; as well as select GM vehicles with factory OnStar; select Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles with U-Connect, select Toyota/Scion vehicles, and select Volkswagens with factory digital amplifier.

    • Retained Features: The iDatalink Maestro RR lets Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, GM, Dodge/Chrysler, Toyota/Scion, and VW owners swap out their factory radio for this aftermarket JVC head unit; while retaining the Ford Sync system, GM OnStar system, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep U-Connect system, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, USB interface, Satellite Radio, and 911 assist. You also get to keep the hands-free mic that comes with the car (which is specially tuned to that particular vehicle). *Retained features will vary by vehicle.
    • Extra Features: In some installations, the iDatalink Maestro RR lets you configure the head unit to operate interior climate controls and provides extra visual data; such as User Selectable Gauges, Vehicle Info (Tire Pressure/Battery Voltage/Check Engine Codes/Door Ajar Warning), and Visual Park Assist. *Extra features will vary by vehicle.

Note: The iDatalink Maestro RR is web programmable, which means you'll need to flash the iDatalink Maestro RR interface module with the correct firmware from iDatalink's website. In addition to flashing the iDatalink Maestro RR module, you'll also need a vehicle specific harness (sold separately). The JVC receiver's OEM Setup menu must also be configured with your compatible vehicle's factory system before initial operation.

    Sound, refined

Written by Mick, Advisor, on 11/4/2016 9:52:00 AM

The JVC Arsenal KW-V820BT is, quite simply, amazing! When I first installed the receiver in my Milan, I started off focused on the excitement of having the opportunity to make hands-free calls through my vehicle's radio, but discovered so much more as I familiarized myself with my new stereo.

For one, the sound quality coming through my speakers was immediately and noticeably superior, both in clarity and in volume, to the point that I have barely had to adjust the volume when traveling to and from work. For another, the touchscreen interface is easy to learn, with an intuitive layout that had me switching between my FM radio, CD collection, and making hands-free calls after only a few minutes of use.

The JVC receiver comes with the option for satellite radio (the tuner must be purchased separately, and it replaces the original tuner that comes with your factory stereo), as well as a GPS unit to assist with optional navigation (via smartphone), and a Bluetooth microphone. Both the GPS antenna and microphone were easily placed in discreet locations requiring minimal negotiating of wiring through the vehicle. Finally, a dual USB cable is included in the box, which I arranged to lay along both sides of the center console/cupholders. After two weeks of driving, I have not been conscious of their presence during any of my travels.

The JVC Arsenal offers a promotional three months of free SiriusXM satellite radio, but only with the purchase of a subscription. In addition, when first using the receiver, I learned that the Bluetooth signal shared between my phone and the receiver prevented the satellite signal from refreshing. In truth, this has not been an inconvenience, as I primarily use the Bluetooth feature to make calls during my hour-long commute home.

The Arsenal includes CarPlay, allowing me to mirror my iPhone onto my receiver unit. CarPlay is a feature I have not utilized beyond initially experimenting with it after installing the radio, but, with the many opportunities for entertainment provided by the receiver, this is entirely a personal preference.

Although the sound quality and overall performance of the Arsenal is greatly improved when compared to the factory unit that came with my Milan, I have noticed that, a small number of times in the past few weeks, the CD has skipped or paused to catch itself. This could be a result of bumps in the road, or my own inexperience with installing receivers, and is supported by the fact that neither my Bluetooth calls, or my FM Radio have demonstrated a similar lapse in performance at any point.

Overall, using the JVC Arsenal has been an incredible pleasure in my daily life, and I can't recommend this receiver more than I already do.

Best bang for the buck! [ Logan  Dec 30, 2016 ]
This was the best bang for my buck receiver I could find and I'm looking forward to giving it some good use. I'm an iPhone only user, so this device having only apple carplay saves me some money & screen space with Andriod Auto not being an option. This also saves me the money from having to buy a pre-installed or upgrades navigational monitor as I can now just use the maps off my phone for navigation. The expandable backup/rear-view camera capability is also a great addition I cant wait to use! [ Brennen Michael  Dec 27, 2016 ]
Great deal for a great radio. I'm a sales rep so carplay will be very helpful. [ Luke  Dec 25, 2016 ]
I hope carplay will be easy enough for my gf to use [ Jason Michael  Dec 21, 2016 ]
Once I decided I didn't want GPS in the HUN due to the placement and angle in the 2002 4Runner, this one came in at the top of my research. It was under $500 and has all of the great features that my 16 year old daughter will need! With the JVC and Sirius XM offers, I was able to get a full factory replacement of the HUN and speakers plus added backup camera for around $550!!! [ Azuree  Dec 19, 2016 ]

Yes, CarPlay works well with my IPhone X and should do the same with your 8. I have had some issues with the unit since upgrading my phone. When first pairing the phone with Bluetooth, it will not download my contacts like it did with my iPhone 6. Also the Bluetooth disconnects randomly on occasion. I think this is due to a IOS 11 bug and expect it to be fixed in an update. Anyone else have this problem???? [ JoeT13  Dec 10, 2017 ]
    Yes [ Erich  Dec 09, 2017 ]
    No idea [ ALLAN  Dec 09, 2017 ]
Got the SE and works fine [ john  Dec 09, 2017 ]
Works with my iPhone x, I'm sure an 8 is no different [ Shawn  Dec 09, 2017 ]
Yes google maps comes up just like a regular navigation just keep in mind that it's using your data as it navigates [ Willie  Aug 25, 2017 ]
You can go on line and see what apps are compatible with Apple CarPlay. YouTube is not a compatible app with CarPlay. I think that video or picture would have to be recorded on a DVD to be viewable. Also believe there is a feature to prevent viewing DVDs while vehicle is in motion. [ GEORGE  Jul 27, 2017 ]
No this is not possible, I assume for driving safety reasons. There are some head units out there that have an mini hdmi input this is not one of them. For those that have an hdmi input you would only be mirroring your phones screen (you would have to sue your phone to change videos, websites etc...) hope that helps. [ aaron  Jul 27, 2017 ]
You can view videos only if they are loaded on a USB drive. There is no mirroring option like on Apple TV. If you play a Youtube video on your phone you can hear the audio on the car stereo. [ JoeT13  Jul 26, 2017 ]
No it will not do this to my knowledge. [ Shawn  Jul 26, 2017 ]
No, you cannot. The CarPlay function only works with apps that are CarPlay compatible. They are the iPhone, iMessage , and Maps apps as well as some music apps like Music, iHeartRadio and Pandora, etc. [ Jesus  Jul 26, 2017 ]
No. The video playback is only allowed when parked. However, YouTube would have to design their app to be used with CarPlay. That is probably my biggest complaint with CarPlay, the limited number of apps. [ AARON M  Jul 26, 2017 ]
    I don't know I have I iPhone 6 and wife has a iPhone 7 and they both work fine with it [ robert  Jun 12, 2017 ]
This unit will work with any iPhone that has a lightning cable (i.e. iPhone 5, 6, 7, SE etc). The features are limited and only work utilizing apple play. [ Rafi  Jun 11, 2017 ]
    Yes, that's what I am using [ thomas  Jun 11, 2017 ]
if it's running the most recent iOS, yes. [ Jon  Jun 11, 2017 ]
That happens to be my phone, works perfectly! [ john  Jun 11, 2017 ]
I don't have an SE but it is essentially the same as an I phone 6S so it should work perfectly [ JoeT13  Jun 11, 2017 ]
i have never had that issue. it turns off and on pretty quickly. [ AARON M  Jun 13, 2017 ]
Takes about 20 seconds to start up. Also you need to have you IPhone plugged in and then start up the radio to activate Apple CarPlay. Have really enjoyed the CarPlay feature, although sometimes the Spotify App can get a little wonky. Useually, restarting the radio will correct this. But time wise it starts pretty quickly. [ GEORGE  Jun 06, 2017 ]
After starting the car, it takes a few of seconds (between 4-8 I'd say), before showing the warning message. Hit ok, and ready to go. If you have a phone connected by bluetooth, it takes an additional few seconds (maybe like 5-10 seconds) before the phone's connected and music starts playing. [ Divyang  Jun 06, 2017 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Kenny  May 12, 2017 ]  Staff
Yes...you can. I currently have Audio, CarPlay, XM and Phone. You can also choose the order of the other screens as well to have your favorites losted first. [ AllanW  Apr 28, 2017 ]
Yes, I have CarPlay, SiriusXM, Tuner and Phone. The "shortcut buttons" on the main screen and lower on the individual panels are able to be customized. [ AARON M  Apr 28, 2017 ]

Sounds like a loose connection. Mine has never shut off in the middle of a trip [ Erich  Feb 14, 2017 ]
i am not familiar with this happening. do you have anything plugged in (iphone, ipod, etc)? there might be an issue with the display. [ AARON M  Feb 14, 2017 ]
First: thing to check would be your power cables (both red and yellow). I could be just a bad connection. Second: check any fuse you might have inline. I don't have a third. If it is non of these it is a short in the deck somewhere.??? Hope that helps Jake [ JAKE  Feb 14, 2017 ]
Have not encountered this problem. Are you certain that all of your connections are secure, since this sounds like a power interruption is occurring? [ GEORGE  Feb 14, 2017 ]
Sorry, no. The provided wiring harness is different so, you'll need to use the harness that comes packaged with the new stereo. While I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, I hope the information helps. [ Ryan  Feb 10, 2017 ]  Staff
No, but I have noticed that if it's really cold when I connect my phone, the CarPlay won't start up until I restart my truck after it's a little warmer. [ CHRIS  Feb 01, 2017 ]
I have had mine for 2 months and haven't had any issues at all. [ Robert  Feb 01, 2017 ]
No. I've had mine for a couple of months and have never had that happen. [ Eric  Feb 01, 2017 ]

Yes, this unit works with the iPhone 7 [ Craig  Jan 26, 2017 ]
    I don't know, I have tried with iphone 6 and 6 plus and it works. [ Vrajesh  Jan 26, 2017 ]
    It works with my 7 plus [ David  Jan 26, 2017 ]
Yes, my 7 works great with this setup. [ Josh  Jan 26, 2017 ]
    Yes [ JoeT13  Jan 26, 2017 ]
I have an iPhone 6S and the radio works great when paired to the phone. However, not sure about an iPhone 7. [ Doug  Jan 26, 2017 ]
    Yes [ Robert  Jan 26, 2017 ]
    I don't know about IPhone 7 but it does with 6!!! [ robert  Jan 25, 2017 ]
    I have a 6, but, per my son who is a programmer @ Apple, Car play supports 7 and 7s [ thomas  Jan 25, 2017 ]
No it does not. The unit uses the gps mapping apps from the iPhone or Android phone you connect. [ MICHAEL C  Jan 03, 2017 ]
Yes. GPS receiver is included in box. I am not sure how the software works? I am sure how to down-load the or update maps. [ JAKE  Jan 03, 2017 ]
The unit comes with a GPS antenna that is used to enhance the signal of the phone connect via Carplay. The supplied GPS antenna is connected to the GPS connection on the back of the unit. [ AllanW  Jan 03, 2017 ]
It comes with a GPS antenna that can be mounted under the dash with an unobstructed skyview preferred - needs to be mounted horizontally, top side up. [ ALLAN  Jan 02, 2017 ]
It does not include it (similar to SiriusXM, needs additional equipment) [ AARON M  Jan 02, 2017 ]
No. The GPS module is simply an extension to boost your phones GPS signal a bit. This way your navigation from your phone will be able to lock on better in areas where it has difficulty on its own (like Chicago downtown). [ Divyang  Jan 02, 2017 ]
No it does not have gps I believe that is for the phone hook up so it has a better signal [ Erich  Jan 02, 2017 ]
The unit does not include a natigation system but has access to systems through Apple Cae Play, which you can access if the unit is connected through your IPhone. [ GEORGE  Jan 02, 2017 ]
This unit does have a GPS connection for the included antenna. However this unit uses apple CarPlay for its GPS. (It does not have a GPS program without your phone) The port/antenna does make the maps more accurate. [ aaron  Jan 02, 2017 ]
Yes it comes up every time I find it annoying but I think any radio you get with this many features will have something similar [ Erich  Jan 02, 2017 ]
When you start car, it will show a warning that you have to agree to. Not a huge issue for me. Everything else works great [ John  Dec 21, 2016 ]
The screen does not tilt. It is fixed flat. [ Burwell  Dec 20, 2016 ]

    No just a CD player. [ Kim  Dec 15, 2016 ]
Yes it plays both cd and dvds. It is a very good unit. [ Guillermo  Dec 15, 2016 ]
Yes it plays both dvds and cds. [ DALE  Dec 15, 2016 ]
Yes, the unit will play both DVD and CD as well as MP3 formts [ S  Dec 15, 2016 ]
Yes this plays both DVDs and CDs. [ KARL  Dec 15, 2016 ]
Yes, it does support Android phones. [ Tom Lackey  Dec 13, 2016 ]
While it works via bluetooth, it does not work with car play. I would look into the JVC KW-V620BT which is essentially the same unit without the carplay and it comes with an HDMI imput as well. [ Sxfstrummer  Dec 12, 2016 ]
The Bluetooth functionality will work with android. Car play is an iOS specific thing though. [ Jerod  Dec 10, 2016 ]
The station presets are shown on a single page menu that allows you to scroll through them all without having to toggle between "bands" I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5 [ Ryan  Dec 02, 2016 ]  Staff
According to JVC technical support, you can only use the USB port with the iPhone embossing on it for CarPlay functionality. Therefore, to answer your question - no. Also, heed their recommendations about original Apple Lightning cables - I used an expensive Lightning cable from a local store and it crapped out after 6-hours of use. As soon as I connected to an Apple cable, it worked fine again. [ ALLAN  Nov 30, 2016 ]
Hey John, while there are 2 USB ports only the top port will recognize an iPhone or certain iPods, check the compatibility list. You can however have 2 phones synced via Bluetooth however you must select which one you want to stream audio from, very simple to switch this in the menus. [ aaron  Nov 26, 2016 ]
You can plug in two phones but only one can run CarPlay at a time. The other USB can run a jump drive. I am not aware of any device that lets you run two iPhones using CarPlay. [ AARON M  Nov 26, 2016 ]
No, one of the inputs is dedicated for CarPlay and the other is a general usb port which will play your music but not interface with CarPlay. I've had this system for a few months now and cannot complain about one single thing. [ Shawn  Nov 26, 2016 ]
Only one connection can be used for CarPlay and that is the one marked iPhone/iPod. Any device can be placed on the second USB port but will not allow CarPlay. [ Jesus  Nov 25, 2016 ]
I was told to use the JVC microphone by technical support, but I also have the steering wheel controls connected. I don't know how the head unit would connect to the built-in microphone as there are no wiring harness conductors for that. [ ALLAN  Nov 30, 2016 ]

If you have Bluetooth set up on both the head unit and phone and they are paired then yes it will automatically connect if you don't have the phone connected via cable. [ Cezary  Jul 01, 2018 ]
You can run your errands using Bluetooth no problems. When you want to, just plug in your iPhone to an Apple Lightning cable (many other brands will not work!) and you're good to go with CarPlay (you'll have to unlock your phone each time). [ ALLAN  Nov 30, 2016 ]

The Signal to noise ratio for the built-in disc player is 94dB. The FM Mono signal to noise ratio is 68dB. You will find this information in the "Specifications" section of the owner's manual. You'll find the link for the manual under the 'What's in the box?" section on the stereo's main webpage. I hope that helps. Negative [ JAKE  Feb 14, 2017 ]
The JVC KW-V820BT doesn't have WiFi built-in. However, it does feature Apple CarPlay technology which integrates your iPhone into the driving experience in a seamless, distraction-free interface. That means easy access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, etc. all from the JVC's touchscreen. In order to use CarPlay, your iPhone must be connected to the JVC receiver via the Lightning-cable that came with your Apple device; or JVC's KS-U62 Lightning/USB interface cable (sold separately).
