Features

Weatherproof Design: Polk Audio All-Weather Certified, Atrium Series speakers exceed baseline industrial and military specifications for environmental endurance (ASTM D5894-UV Salt Fog, Mil Standard 810 Immersion, Mil-Std 883 Method 1009.8 for salt and corrosion.) Certification means Atrium speakers can effortlessly withstand the outdoors, and hold up in extreme temperatures and precipitation.

Polk Patented Technologies: Patented Dynamic Balance and Klippel Optimization technologies ensure the perfect material performance, eliminating driver and tweeter "artifacts" for more realistic sound reproduction at high and low volume levels.

  • Dynamic Balance: A Polk perfected method of analyzing a speaker's microscopic behavior with laser Interferometry. Polk engineers can tune out unwanted resonance and distortion with the right combination of materials, geometry and construction techniques. This brings you pure, distortion-free sound.
  • Klippel Optimization: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension bringing you the best possible performance even at extreme listening levels.

2-Way Driver Design: Each speaker features a 3/4" anodized aluminum dome tweeter with rubber surround and neodymium magnet for better power handling and smoother response. Each speaker also features a 4 1/2" long-throw mineral-filled polypropylene cone driver for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Rugged Enclosure Design: The durable, mineral-filled polypropylene cabinet design, with molded-in bracing survives years of seasonal changes, for great sound, no matter what the weather. The rugged, mineral-filled polypropylene enclosure features a rustproof aluminum grille, rustproof aluminum bracket, and stainless steel/brass hardware.

Note: The speakers are available in a black or white finish. The enclosure is also paintable.

Broad Coverage Baffle Design: The sculpted front, steeply-angled baffle design and rounded enclosure minimize diffraction (sound reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging.

Binding Posts: The Atrium 4 has a pair of gold-plated 5-way binding posts that will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, single- and dual-banana plugs.

Speed-Locking Mounting System: The included rustproof aluminum brackets allow multiple mounting options and are quick-and-easy to install. The Atrium 4 can be mounted either horizontally or vertically and aimed to deliver the best possible sound in a variety of situations The integrated brackets provide full 180-degree rotation (when mounted vertically or horizontally. The mounting brackets even allow the speaker to be mounted snugly in a corner or under an eve (at a downward 45-degree angle). You can remove the bracket and use the speaker's built-in stability feet, if you simply want to place the speaker on a table or shelf.

Q
Any tips on connecting them to a TV for TV audio ?
alberto  Feb 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Alberto, and thank you for your question. These Polk speakers do not have any amplification, and the TVs audio output will not have that either. What you would need in between is an amplifier of some sort. Which one depends on what sort of output your TV has. Please call on of our advisors at 800-324-9695 to check what options are best for your application.
hogan  Feb 05, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Could you use Atrium4 speakers in a convertible on the rear deck? I need to flush mount them. There is not enough depth between the rear deck and gas tank for a normal set of speakers.
derrick  Aug 22, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Derrick, and thank you for your question. You can use the Polk speakers in a car although its not something we would recommend. Most car speakers are 4 ohm. Thats pretty standard, your car might be higher, or lower. These Polk speakers are 8 ohm. Think of your speakers at 4 ohms, and these at 8. Your volume would be decreased by up to 50% from the factory speakers. If this is all you can do, you might need to add an amplifier as well.
hogan  Aug 22, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Can these be installed facing down with full exposure to rain? I'm trying to install them between my rafters and the backside would have no protection from the elements.
todd  May 31, 2021
1 answer
A
Absolutely no problem mounting them facing completely downward or even at a slant. The only limitation or restriction is that they should never be mounted facing upwards so that water would collect in the cones themselves.

Yes, I have these speakers mounted outside under a patio and love them.

Hi, I am not an expert though my opinion is it is ok to use 8 ohm speakers with a 6 ohm receiver. I also think you will need turn up the volume to get the same volume you would get from an 8 ohm receiver. The pro's at Crutchfield should be able to help you out.

Hi - I am looking for some out door speakers, however, I live in a very salt weather environment (an Island in the Caribbean). Are the brackets painted mild steel? Does anyone have them mounted on a boat (in the ocean, not fresh water) for instance?
rolf  Apr 16, 2018

A
I have this speaker mounted on my boat in PR for 1 year ago with no issues. Sound super. You have to buy goods cables
juan javier  May 28, 2018
A
I have these speakers mounted on a tiki bar outside in a waterfront home. (saltwater). Have had them for nearly 2 years and no problem at all.
steve  May 01, 2018
A
I don't have them mounted in the salty ocean area as you, but I do have two sets installed in Wisconsin. Lots of snow and freezing weather. They have held up great. Am actually ordering three more sets for another customer. I'm an electrical contractor, always a great product. (Polk Audio)

can these be hooked to a computer for streaming from, say Pandora?
bette  Apr 05, 2018
3 answers
A
There are the normal speaker wire terminals.
michael  Apr 05, 2018
A
Sure. I bought a Bluetooth adapter from peach tree audio and connected it to an old stereo reciever I bought on Craigslist and connect my IPhone to listen to Pandora all the time. Great outdoor speakers.
mark  Apr 05, 2018
A
They are not designed for direct connection to a pc. The pc would likely not have enough power in the sound board to drive these.
john  Apr 05, 2018
Q
Hi: Can be used on a beach house outdoor?
juan  May 30, 2017
5 answers
A
Personally, I don't see why not. I live in Michigan and since I mounted them outside on my deck 2 years ago I haven't taken them down. They still work like new. However, I would take them down if you don't live there year round because if other people hear them, they may walk away when you aren't there if you know what I mean because they do sound good. So good that I bought a second set for a place we have up north.

Can these speakers be hooked up to an outdoor television? Are the speakers Bluetooth capable?

pascal  May 30, 2017
A
Yes they can be hooked up to a outside tv and no they are not Bluetooth.
johnny  Jan 13, 2017
A
Not directly. They need to be driven by an amplifier. They do not have built in Bluetooth either. That said, they are very good outdoor speakers, but may not be what you are looking for.

can these speakers be painted?

There is paint on the market for to use just on plastic materials. But, I suggest you don't paint them.
scott  Jul 24, 2015
A
Yes. Remove grill and cover cone and tweeter. I painted to match an outdoor space at a country club.
paul j  Jul 24, 2015
A
I don't see why not, but I would go with the white ones and paint those. It might be hard to cover up the black completely.
edward  Jul 24, 2015
A
I would say yes, use a spray paint so the grill doesn't get clogged.

jesse j  Apr 08, 2015

They are able to withstand the elements but I have mine up under my overhang so they don't stick out so much. They sound great. James
james  Apr 07, 2015
A
We have 2 sets of these speakers which have done really well outside. However, ours are mounted on outside porches with overhead cover so I'm not sure about total exposure. I do know that ours have gotten wet and icy in spite of the cover because we are on a mountaintop with extreme wind.
mary d  Apr 07, 2015
A
I've had them up under the eaves of my back porch by the pool for a few years and the're doing just fine. While they aren't in direct weather, the eaves are fairly short, so I'm sure they're getting partially wet. They sound great and at a reasonable price, so those were the two biggest factors for me. Hope that helps!
mark  Apr 07, 2015
A
Mine are under the eaves of the roof line. I'm sure they get some wind driven rain from time to time. They work fine.
kell c  Apr 07, 2015

Q
Can they come into direct contact with rain or snow?
jack  Aug 11, 2023

They can, Jack. The Polk Audio Atrium4 has a rugged, weatherproof design that meets or exceeds stringent military specifications for full exposure to the elements. These Polk's sound great and are a top option for excellent outdoor sound with reliable performance.

Q
Can I play these speakers from my i phone? Blue tooth style?
thomas saavedra  May 02, 2022
3 answers
A
These are not Bluetooth capable so no you cannot play directly from your phone to the speakers . I have the speakers connected to my amp and connect to a Bluetooth enabled device also connected to the amp.
ron  May 02, 2022
A
No, you need an amplifier. These are passive speakers, so the path would be phone/tablet over bluetooth to some receiver/amplifier that is connected via speaker wire to the speakers.
paul  May 02, 2022
A
No, these are unpowered speakers. You need an external amp to make them play.
chris  May 02, 2022
Q
are they compatible to iphones?
thomas saavedra  Apr 29, 2022
1 answer
A
These speakers are unpowered, meaning that they will only play the music/sounds from an amp. So, in order to connect to an iPhone (or any other Bluetooth device), you would need to connect these speakers (by speaker wire) to an amp or receiver of some type. By themselves, these won't connect to an iPhone because there is nothing to power them.

What is the RMS W for these speakers? I see the peak power is 80W
david  Mar 27, 2019

That is actually the top RMS watts these speakers should get. We don't have a peak power rating for them My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
Do these speakers need to have an amplifier hooked up to them or are they basically a "plug and play" setup?
rob  Jun 04, 2018
1 answer
A
No, they do not need an amplifier. However they do perform much better with an amplifier! My present installation uses an amplifier with a built in surround sound and a sub-woofer (I strongly recommend you use a sub-woofer). I have left my speakers up, during last years hurricane, and have experienced no reduction in performance! (I live in Florida).

Q
I want to hang a pair of these on the side of my tv and use them for dolby atmos speakers, I would like to know if you can angle them toward the ceiling with the brackets that they come with?
chuck  Apr 28, 2017
2 answers
A
I USED THESE OUTSIDE ON MY PATIO. I MOUNTED THE BRACKET VERTICALLY AND THE SPEAKER CAN BE ADJUSTED LEFT OR RIGHT. IF YOU MOUNT THE BRACKET HORIZONTALLY, YOU SHOULD BE OK. THE SPEAKER CAN BE ANGLED UPWARD..BUT THE SPEAKER WILL BE TOO BIG TO ANGLE STRAIGHT UP. HOPE THIS HELPS
jeff  Apr 30, 2017
A
Only if you hang the brackets horizontally.

kelli  Apr 06, 2016

Excellent!
wilfred  Jul 21, 2020

They would work fine , a little bulky for inside a house and unless you have a flood, the weather resistance is wasted inside :). Have you looked into the owm3 by Polk? They have an awesome look to them and can be mounted all sorts of ways
aaron doran  Apr 06, 2016
Q
The woofer seems blown. Can I open this speaker to replace woofer or is it sealed shut?
john  Feb 06, 2016
1 answer
A
We don't have any info about replacing the woofers in the Atrium4 speakers, but if yours are still under the manufacturer's warranty (5-years), it's possible Polk will replace them for you. You can contact Polk directly for more information at 800-377-7655. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

A
I have a patio that is about 20x40 and these work perfectly in that space.
michael  Jan 31, 2014
A
we have them mounted about 7 feet up on our terrace, the area is 10x25 feet, and they provide excellent coverage for the requirement, which is largely background music for parties
adam  Jan 29, 2014
A
It has rained so much since i got the speakers i was unable to put them up. Sorry i couldn't be more help.
gregory  Jan 29, 2014
A
I use them on my patio outside but I am not happy with the sound when you turn up the volume. They rumble and sound like a blown speaker.
richard  Jan 29, 2014
A
I use these around my pool/patio area and it is approximately 50' x 100'. The speakers are clear and plenty loud enough for my type of listening (background music). My speakers are about 125 feet from my receiver, so there is probably some more power there, but ohm draw is high at that distance. The only thing I wish I had more of, is some bass, but I really can't expect too much boom boom from ceiling mounted speakers. Overall, I am happy with these. They look good, sound good, and mount easily.
