2020 Ranger sounding 10x better
CJ from NC on 1/19/2021
2020 Ford Ranger
Love the fullness and depth these produce. If you are looking for smooth, natural and unbloated sound then this is an excellent choice. The price was exceptional as well. Easy to install with the instructions provided by Crutchfield. Maybe everyone besides me knows this but I took the aftermarket wiring harness with the black and white wires cut off the metal tips that attach to the speaker and ran those as the power into the crossovers. Then use Polk's speaker wire to attach the positive and negative to the mids and tweeters. First door took about 1.5 hours, second door took maybe 30 minutes.
Pros: Very smooth sound and a perceived wide soundstage in front. Waterproof and easy to install. Really no comparison to the factory junk I just removed.
Cons: None

2015 Ram 1500
This setup was recommended by Crutchfield for my 2015 Ram Truck. I wanted to upgrade without breaking the bank. Speakers only. After reading other reviews I set the high frequency gain to 0db, which is perfect. It comes set at +6db, which is too much. Had to run new wire from front doors to dash Speakers which wasn't too bad, well worth it in the end because it sounds amazing. Thanks Crutchfield.
Pros: Price, sound
Cons: Had to run new wire from front doors to dash

Crystal Clear!
Tieler from Fussa-shi, Tokyo, Japan on 12/22/2020
Great door speakers with insane clarity! I have these in my front doors and put the 2-Way 652s in the back doors powered by a 800w 4ch amp. Everyone who rides in my car is impressed with the quality of sound that these produce!
Pros: 1. Shallow mount. 2. Easy to wire crossover. 3. Quality sound throughout the volume range. 4. Lots of BANG for your buck!
Cons: 1. If your tweeters are mounted high up, put the crossover setting to 0. Trust me the tweeters are very powerful. 2. The crossover box is hard to open up, I had to carefully pry with an assortment of small flat heads.

2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Amazing speakers when paired with a good amp (in my case JBL Stadium 5). After setting the tweeter crossover jumper for the 3db level adjustment and tuning the amp to crossover door speakers at 50Hz and subwoofer at 60Hz, the sound in the car is awesome. Using the bass boost for quieter listen (passengers in the car) between the sub and these separates everything sounds good. My music is all over from Will Smith to Holtz to Metallica to Steely Dan. These sound great with any of them. They have very sharp response to pauses in music as if you were sitting right there at the stage. Solid bass, smooth not annoyingly high pitched tweeter response. Other than the bass boost through amp for quieter levels, a rarely even move the head unit bass-mid-treble controls. One of the better speaker purchases you can make!
Pros: Excellent sound quality; good punch at lower bass; highs are clean, smooth not too bright (or annoying to listen to loud); fit my car doors easily.
Cons: So far, none.

Very bright tweeters
dc from Albuquerque, NM on 12/2/2020

Was easy enough to replace/mount the speakers in my Ody. Hardest part was running wire form the crossover to the tweeter through the door harness. Upon powering up everything the tweeters are way to tinny/bright. Even with the treble and mid-range it is overwhelming and sounds like crap. Called and talked to Jacob in TS and he said there is a jumper to tone down the tweeters as they are set to the highest level from the factory. Will give this a try and see how it goes. More info later!

John from FRUITLAND PARK, FL on 10/21/2020
Wow these sound amazing. I had Infinity Kapp's and the tweeters were so harsh, I called Crutchfield and talked to Dino and he recommended the Polk's . Got them installed and same issue tweeters made my ears bleed, but they imaged better than the Kapps. I called Crutchfield again, talked to Fox in tech support and found out the crossovers were set @ +6db from the factory for the tweeters. Lowered them to +3db and were still to harsh, put them to 0db and they are perfect. They sound fantastic and you can here everything. I listen to a lot of classic rock and love the sound. My set up is Sony XAV-AX5000 head unit, the Polks upfront, Jbl 6.5 GTO's in the rear deck (soon the be Polk's ) have a 10 inch sub in trunk with JBL CLUB-4505 1800W amp and it ROCK'S. Thanks again Crutchfield you guys are great!!
Pros: Everything, Sound Amazing
Cons: None, just make sure you set the chip in the crossover to you liking.

Crutchfield should modify their listing to say that for the 2002 Honda S2000 it is direct fit (except you have to mount the crossover). Absolutely sound incredible! Give these bad boy's all the power you can and its imperative you pair these with a good head unit (good pre-amp and RCA outs) and run them with an aftermarket amp! A head unit's built in amp with these is a no go! These may be marketed as a great budget speaker but you can't run these audiophile grade speakers on lesser components! Thats right, a budget friendly higher end speaker is what you are getting here and they perform incredible with the right power and equipment. I went from pumping 50w to these guys to 100w~, and its not even in the same ball park! The highs are clear, mid's are natural and sound true! Not gonna get a ton of mid bass out of these but its not tin like or muddy. Definitely pair with a sub, you'll feel like your living in a concert on every ride! These will take time to tune properly to achieve the best level of sound quality, so have patience and tweak things to your liking!

Worst speaker system ever. Tweeters are exceedingly shrill and overpowering, like having icepicks in your ears. The EQ at 0 is not even enough to balance the sound. The woofers have a little bit of low thump to them when pushed on the EQ but absolutely blah in the mids. This purchase was a big mistake. I trusted my Crutchfield advisor to pick out a simple speaker swap over my OEM system. They initially forgot to include a mounting bracket but made that right. This was my first purchase from Crutchfield. They seem very polite and want to help but not very knowledgeable as this speaker system proves. I triple checked all my connections and everything is right. I am running these speakers through the OEM wiring, from my new Pioneer unit, no separate amp. I probably am going to reinstall the old OEM tweeters at least. This system is completely unusable. Do your own research, do not trust the Crutchfield personnel for advice. What a huge waste of time and money.
Pros: New and shiny. Removes ear wax.
Cons: Not good for listening to music.

Quality On Multiple Fronts - Budget Minded Higher End
Crutchfield customer from GEORGETOWN, TX on 5/25/2020
Great sound when I turned it on my old deck low power without the component. Running too low power may cause noise distortion on high powered speakers but didnt hear any for the one song I played. Amazing sound when properly powered & installed. I was able to modify my pillar mounts with a dremel in front and modify the the rear pillars to hold the supplied mounts. Lots of little pieces provided to manipulate to mount in your car even if no mounting positions are stock. The weather resistance is a yes. By that I mean you want it if you are wanting to go crazy in the right direction. I'm not worried about installing some sound muffling protective backer though in truth the protective layer probably wouldnt mess with sound too much to notice and would be wise if not a weather tolerant speakers. The thing is, my whole door sounds great and not distorted from the outside by leaving the backer off and dampening the door metal. The goal wasn't loud but full so I didnt have to be loud. Component device will filter off frequencies not designed for the speakers. if your deck filters off extra frequencies then set it to prevent wasted energy going to the amp then component. This with the right subs and deck will do a full range of human hearing. Tested a movie and heard stuff I never heard except through that system. It is nuts. 400 rms for 4 speakers matches well with 300 rms bass. Reading lots of different setups by professionals indicate 60% and even 70% bass due it needing more.
Pros: Weather hardy for tolerance for rain in door or TX heat - Door seals have been replacd & longevity unknown but I suspect better than paper.
Cons: No complaints or issues yet so....

I bought these speakers because I had the Polk Audio MM 6502 in my last vehicle and they stole the show for everybody that got in my car...I wanted that same quality sound but wasn't going to be hitting as hard in my new car so I was hoping to save a few bucks and drop down to these....these do not disappoint...they gave me that same Polk Sound that I was use to for a little less money (trade off is they can't handle as much power - but I wasn't trying to jam the neighborhood now anyway) You can sit an listen to these speakers all day without getting ear fatigue....as long as your not overpowering them they sound great!!
Pros: They sound great
Cons: None (but if your trying to rock the neighborhood step up to the Polk MM 6502)

Optemistic specs, but still good.
Guest from Kansas City, MO on 5/16/2020
I installed 2 pairs of these in my Chevy Trailblazer to replace the stock dirt cheap speakers the previous owner put in. I took my time to wire them up properly, sealed up as many air leaks and I reasonably could while I was in there, added foam rings to the front of the speaker, ran new wire to the doors, got an amp to push them, and even replaced a window motor while I was in there! The install was about what I expected though I did have a bit of a hard time finding a spot to mount the crossover box. The fronts have the crossover in the door while the rears are under the seat with the tweeters double-sticky taped on the B-pillar trim because I didn't want to cut up any trim panels. Today was my maiden voyage with these, so they're still breaking in a little bit, but my first impressions are good. The highs are clean, but a bit loud, so I had to EQ my highs down a decent bit to prevent "S"es standing out like a sore thumb. The overall detail on these speaker is pretty solid though I did have to boost 2kHz - 4kHz a bit for vocal clarity. The low mids are nicely defined and I can easily pick out a bass guitar now. I don't have a sub, so these are running the lows on my system too. I specifically chose these because they claim a frequency range of down to 35Hz. I knew going into it, that wasn't true, but it does get down there pretty decently as long as you're not playing they super loud. They have enough to get my mirrors bumping just a little bit..

NO BASS!

2009 Honda Civic LX
I have always been a Polk Audio fan. My entire surround sound system at home is Polk Audio. They have never let me down. Having said that i decided to get these for my 2009 Civic Coupe thinking they would be just as amazing as the ones at home. Boy was I completely wrong! These are the worst speakers I have ever purchased. They clearly lack any and all real bass. Mid bass is the worst. I tried calibrating the system with the head unit software. No bass. I tried calibrating by ear. No bass. I purchased acoustic foam and added to the car. No bass. I added Dynamat throughout the entire car including the hood. No bass.i had read one user's comment about these speakers and said these had no bass. I thought he was exaggerating and he hadn't taken the proper steps to fix it. He wasn'twrong. I have tried everything to get some bass for months now. Nothing i do will fix this issue. If i try adjusting the individual bass frequencies it makes the system sound worse. Polk you really dropped the ball on these speakers!
Pros: Clear Highs
Cons: Mounting brackets and hardware are useless. Lack of bass. Opening the crossover box was not user friendly. Cheaply made.

I expected better. Tweeteres are distorting at louder volumes.
Guest from San Jose, CA on 2/24/2020
I expected better from Polk. I've been running these for six months and still fine tuning the system. However, I ran into a major issue that is either the cross over is set poorly from factory or the tweeters cannot handle the amount of current advertised. I'm ending up with major distortion in the tweeters (sounds like buzzing or rattling) when playing at ~50% of rated power. By no means is this ear piercing levels. I'm using an Alpine 300F to power these so it's unlikely to be distorting from that. The woofers are fine with the volume at 50% but the tweeters can't handle it.

Installed in 2012 Jeep JKU w/ Pioneer AVH-501EX head unit, DB652s in the sound bar, and a Clarion XC2410 4 channel amp. The difference in sound quality is unbelievable! One piece of advice for anyone installing ANY brand of components in a 07 - 12 (poss. 13 &14) JKU: getting to the factory components is a PITA due to Jeep's dash design. You have to pull the whole dash, console, etc.
Pros: Exceptional sound quality, moisture resistance (important in a Jeep)

Crutchfield customer from Austin, TX on 2/5/2020
2014 Toyota Avalon
Installed these in my 2014 Toyota Avalon with the Crutchfield provided speaker brackets and wire harnesses. They are powered by a JL Audio XD700/5 amp, source is Kenwood KDC-X502 deck, Polk DB652 for filler in the rear deck, and one JL Audio 10" W3 sub. I also have super dynamat covering the most critical spots. I have installed systems in my other cars in the past and never had this much precision, power and control over the sound. I was pretty underwhelmed and disappointed at first due to the mentioned break in period. A week later the situation was dramatically different and I could not be happier. At some point, I will get a more feature rich head unit. The only thing I would have done differently is to go for the JL VXi amp series for the finer tuning options now that I have great components :-)
Pros: Great Sound Tight Bass Wide Response
Cons: Break In Period :-p

Good sounding speakers! A tremendous improvement over the factory speakers. The only negative is the size of the crossover makes it a bit tough to find a good spot to tuck it away. That said, the attenuation adjustment inside the crossover for the tweeters was very beneficial.
Pros: Sound quality High sensitivity
Cons: Space required for crossover

Excellent Value and Performance
Justin from OWENSBORO, KY on 12/3/2019
I bought these to replace a dead woofer on my DXi 6500 series from several years ago (not a production problem, they had been thrown around while moving several times). I was wondering how the sound quality was going to be compared to the DXi series( DXi has 1in tweeters these have 3/4in.). I have been very pleased. There is a jumper in the crossover box, by default it is set to +6dB, I think this is fine for running off the head unit, but I have these powered by a Polk PA 660 4 channel amp and at higher volumes they were overbearing. I set them to 0dB boost and they are much better. With +6dB i was getting a lot of hissing and static, that is almost completely eliminated now. Highly recommend.
Pros: Excellent and clean sound quality.
Cons: tweeter boost jumper is in the crossover box, DXi series had an external switch. Getting the top off the crossover box can be a bit of a pain.

First off: the sound quality is great. Construction is as to be expected. However fitment leaves something to be desired. Because the outside frame/ring is too thick to get the door panel back on. As a result I have slight gap around the bottom edge. Also the crossover box is a little bigger than I've seen before. Thus created a bit of challenge to mount. Note: these went in the front, which the front doors upon pulling the panels off, had these "Ford modules". Which made it difficult to mount the crossover. Aside from the fitment, they sound great. I didn't use the tweeter, because the factory ones seemed more stout. The crossover was just used for the woofer .
Pros: Sound quality
Cons: Fitment in 2016 Ford Fusion

I cannot believe the excellent sound quality available at this price point. I installed these in front doors of a pickup powered by 50W/ch. With the tweeter positioned in the sail panel of the door, I had to set the tweeter jumper to the 0db position. Amazing balance with a totally flat signal crossed over at 125Hz. I was very impressed with the flexible tweeter mounting hardware that they came with. The surface mount option actually allows the driver to swivel for precise aiming. I will also commend Polk Audio customer service. We accidentally smashed a tweeter during installation, and when I asked them if I could buy a new one they sent me one for free!
Pros: Great sound, adjustable tweeter level, many tweeter mounting options

2018 Chevrolet Express
The Polk DB series component speakers are a budget friendly way to higher quality sound. These were designed to be relatively easy to install (for component speakers). They come with crimped ends on the speaker wires. They are different sizes for + and - making this part foolproof. The crossovers are clearly marked for the wiring connections. There are two holes drilled through them for mounting. I was able to drill and tap the door frames and use 1/4x 20 screws to mount them (easy size to find). These are not included with the hardware package. The tweeters come with the leads soldered on with a short whip of cable. They come with the crimp connectors on them. This was especially helpful when mounting the tweeters to sail panels above the door as they need to be removed before the door panels. This allowed for a simple reassembly process. As others have pointed out, the crossovers come with a three position tweeter level setting. They come by default at +6 dB. This will make them sound excessively bright in many situations. I set mine to 0 dB and still found "s" and "t" to be far too bright. This may be due to the tweeters being at head level instead down by the woofers in my installation. Nonetheless, I had to drop my highest EQ points down by 3 dB to compensate. Once installed and balanced out, I found the sound to be very good for the price paid. I was fortunate to have a 12 band EQ on my head unit to smooth things out. Without this it may have be
Pros: Well thought out design Smooth midrange
Cons: Excessively bright tweeters

Trevor from Neenah, WI on 4/6/2019

Overall I'm disappointed in my purchase. I didn't realize these speakers would be as power-hungry as they are. I was recommended these by a Crutchfield Rep, but they work very poorly with a stock stereo. They sound worse than the stock speakers did. Now I've been looking for solutions and I may need to use an amp and rewire all of my speakers. I'll end up spending considerably more time and money than I was looking to. I'm not sure whether I'll go through Crutchfield or not because as great as the technical support is, it's the recommendation by them that's causing me my issues.
Pros: I'm guessing they'd sound good if they had the proper power
Cons: Power hungry Minimal bass

I have these running off of a Kicker CXA300.4 in bridged mode. Gain was set to keep the channel under 100 instead of its rated 150. These things are clean. From the factory the tweeters were configured for +6dB and I can't imagine why. If you're keeping it in the door or down in a kick panel I could see needing them that loud but mine went in the factory sail panel location. Keeping them at no boost and they provide plenty of output. Source is mostly 320kbs mp3s and lossless formats off of an ipod and alpine cda-117. The speakers provide more detail and range than the factory could ever hope to, with the same source. The only thing they're lacking in and other reviews have mentioned it, is mid bass. I have my crossover set at 100Hz and they keep up but they can't be comfortably brought lower without bottoming out or doing much good. What they can do down to 100 does help bring the bass to the front of the car. Still though, an improvement over the factory. The factory felt punchier but lost dynamics and tonal quality in trade for punch. I think some more time with the equalizer and crossover settings can breathe some life into them but don't expect miracles. They fit in areas requiring shallow speakers and sound good doing it. With a flat EQ the treble was not too bright or harsh and the midrange had some warmth to it.

Replaced the factory woofer/tweeter pair in the doors of my '09 Kia Spectra LX. The clarity of sound and the control these speakers have is phenomenal compared to factory. These are paired with my JVC head unit at 20W RMS/40W MAX. They produce a fantastic sound even at this modest level of amplification. My only complaint is how Polk set the tweeter from the factory. They are set to +6db by default and this is way to high in a simple replacement setup. Set mine to 0db and everything sounds birght without being the least bit shrill.
Pros: Bright sound stage. Tight bass. Great sensitivity.
Cons: Default tweeter setting of +6db is way to high.

On a JL audio 4 channel amp that's only 70 Watts bet channel I've blown three sets of these now! They cannot handle a pounding like JL, kicker or Fosgate speakers. Maybe on a factory radio with no amp they would be ok but don't crank it up! I'll never own another pair of these junk speakers. I've been putting systems in my cars for 28 years now and have never had this many problems with a component set. Tweeters and crossovers burn up like crazy and pole won't honor the warranty on them. They kept telling me I hooked them up wrong lol. I'm a master electrician and car audio nerd. Amp to crossover to woofer and Tweeter. It's not exactly rocket science

2016 Mazda 3
I bought this component setup for my son's 2016 Mazda 3 (non-bose replacement). The additional pieces (Metra speaker brackets and wiring harness) along with the .pdf installation guide made installing the new speakers and tweeters very straight forward. I elected to cut the OEM tweeter wire and solder to the new tweeters forgoing the crossover installation. I know this was not brilliant, but I was not comfortable with the slightly more challenging wiring required to properly install the crossover. However, the music quality has improved dramatically. Perhaps on his own dine, my son will decide to have a professional upgrade with an amp, sub, and have the crossovers installed. I think an amp would help the bass be more dramatic, but I happy with this upgrade.

I installed the Polk DB6502 in a Jeep Wrangler. Installation instructions for the Jeep were spot on for the speaker, although nothing was provided for the crossover. I decided not to replace the crossover at this time but plan to when I replace the receiver at a later time. The Crutchfield consultant steered me towards these and they are definitely an improvement in both sound quality and power over the stock, and they were lower price than the ones I leaned towards before talking with the consultant. I expect these will sound even better when I upgrade the amp. The only difficult I had was installing the tweeters - I could not get the included hardware to work well with the factory pods, but I was able to mount them securely by using indoor/outdoor caulk.
Pros: Good Value, good sound quality
Cons: Tweeter installation not straightforward in a Jeep

Polk DB 6502 silk dome tweeter are smooth
Andy from Beverly Hills, FL on 11/6/2018
2006 Toyota Tacoma
Just installed these in my regular cab 06 Tacoma at 45 watts RMS to each from the Pioneer GM-D1004 compact amp. Also used the 6-1/2 Boom Mat baffles to reduce noise in the door and improved the mid bass. The silk dome tweeters are much softer and warmer sounding than the Morel Maximo 6's that I returned. I have the crossovers set to the mid position of 3 db for the tweeters. Also used the other 2 channels from the pioneer amp bridged at 90 watts RMS to run a Kicker 43TC104 10 inch ported sub. The head unit is a Sony XAV-AX1000 with apple CarPlay. Overall I am very satisfied with the sound quality of these Polks. There is no harshness from the tweeters and the adjustable crossovers should allow tuning to satisfy most listeners. I would have given 4-5 stars but the crossover covers were so tight I had to use channel locks to get inside to adjust the tweeter levels. I also had one tweeter not working and found the jumper was intermittent in the 6 db position. Worked fine in the 3 db position for me. Polk got the sound quality right on but somehow missed out on some of the minor details. Won't matter if you get your gear here because you will be taken care of by the excellent staff.
Pros: Mid bass Tweeters are smooth and warm with 3 levels
Cons: Crossover jumper intermittent Crossover cover difficult to remove

Great Monsoon Component Speaker System Replacement
Gregory from Bellingham, WA on 8/20/2018
2001 Volkswagen Passat
Yes, awesome! DB6502s were used to replace the F+R OEM Monsoon speaker systems in a 2001.5 Passat Sedan. I elected to bypass the OEM amplifier and wiring harnesses using 14AWG Stinger speaker wire from the Alpine UTE-73BT/KTP-445A HU/Amp to the Polk crossovers mounted in the doors. Originally, I had the front speakers replaced professionally, but found they didn't sound right (kind of tinny and echoy). Opening the door panels I found they use mounting adapters similar to those recommended by Crutchfield. This makes a difference because the OEM Monsoon speakers are approximately 2.5-3 inches tall to seal against the door panel hardware. This is what the Crutchfield recommended adapters do. I also installed the Crutchfield recommended sound absorber disks behind the speakers, but can't really say this makes a lot of difference. The speakers were dead-easy to install (with a little moxy required to mount the Polk tweeters behind the OEM tweeter mountings - retaining the OEM tweeter grill - Dremmel tool, permanent double sided tape, and silicone sealer is what I eventually used to fix them in place. Polk provides wiring for connection of the crossovers to the mid/woofer and tweeter, already with size coded spade connectors. You really can't go wrong with the install. After install, they worked well immediately from the get-go ... no problems whatsoever. Great sound reproduction from various sources through the Alpine equipment. I'm very happy with these
Pros: Everything included for installation (although tweeter installation behind OEM grills requires a little creativity). Great sound. Well built, appear to be very durable.
Cons: None (very good product).

Ensure mounting before purchase!

Had to wait 2 months to get these. Wish I canceled. Before you start, ensure you have somewhere to mount the crossover. The directions you get do NOT have instructions on where to mount the crossover. In fact the instruction are terrible. Ended up only using the bass speakers, not the tweeters. Kinda expensive for that. They do sound good in my vehicle with the JBL system.
Pros: Good sound
Cons: Modify fit to speakers holes Crossover unit Have to modify tweeters to fit

I recently purchased these speakers to replace the factory speakers in our 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK. This was my first time installing component speakers, but didn't think it should be that complicated. The general instructions were good, nothing really out of the ordinary. The challenge was, the component box that you wire into was larger than expected, so made it difficult to find significant places to apply them 'out of the way' and view. For the soundbar up top, it was a very tight snug fit. Installation took a little longer than expected, but everything was completed and system up and running. It's to early to really say, not sure the 'component' systems are any better than 2 or 3 way speakers, but will give it a few weeks and see how it goes.

Awesome speakers, they really sound great! Mounted them in the front doors of a 2008 Mazda 6. Needed to fab some adapter plates for the woofers and zip tied the tweeters in the plastic tweeter grills with some loops for the backs of pictures that have screw holes; the loops mounted to the screw hole positions for the plastic cover on the inside of the grill. Overall looks great and can't tell from the outside it's not OEM! Great price too! Thanks Crutchfield!!

Crossover picks up interference from electronic circuits
jeff from New Port Richey, FL on 5/23/2018
The sound is great-- But they have one major drawback. The crossover provided seems to suck in the interference from my 2017 Chevy. No matter where I place the crossover in the dash area it picks up interference from the headlights and dash lights when they are on. I know it is the crossover because I can increase the sound when I move it closer to the circuits under and to the sides of the dash and floorboard kick panels.
Pros: Great price. Nice sound.
Cons: Crossover picks up interference from all major electrical circuits in my dash.

Wonderful sounding speakers. Before installing, I moved the jumper in the crossover for the tweeter level from the +6 db setting to the 0 db setting. Installation was easy and the change was well worth it. I had upgraded the speakers in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler a while back and, while better, the tweeters in those speakers were always a little too loud and just a bit harsh. The Polk's have a much smoother sound and required minimal equalization to "dial in". Installed the matching Polk 6 1/2" coaxes in the rear locations at the same time. Extremely happy with these speakers!
Pros: Smooth sound. Adjustable jumper in crossover for tweeter level

Excellent Speakers
Jeff from Mill Creek, WA on 4/28/2018
2003 Toyota Tundra
I'm very happy with these speakers. They replaced Polk EX365 two-way speakers that were paired with the factory door tweeters, and the difference is impressive. Nice clean and clear treble and punchy bass, even at higher volumes (driven by an Alpine amp). I followed the advice of previous reviewers and set the crossover tweeter jumper to 0 dB, and the level is just about right. It would have been nice if the factory instructions were more clear on the setting, or the default setting was 0. Three installation challenges in my particular vehicle were: 1) I needed to open up the existing tweeter opening in the door panel in order for the mounting cup to fit, 2) finding a place to mount the crossovers, which are rather large, and 3) the two different woofer adapters (6.5" to 6.75") supplied by Polk and Crutchfield were too thick to fit behind the door panel. I ended up not needing them, as I was able to use washers underneath the mounting screws to overlap just enough.
Pros: Nice clean and clear treble and punchy bass, even at higher volumes (a consistent Polk characteristic).
Cons: Installation a little more involved than I expected. Factory instructions could be better.

Very easy to install and the sound is more than what I had hoped for. I also had questions for Crutchfield, and they quickly answered anything I needed to know. It pays to go with a company who will back you up when you have questions. That, along with the stellar reputation of Polk, is why I went with Crutchfield again. Change the crossover settings first!
Jeff from Buffalo, NY on 2/18/2018
2011 Subaru Outback
Hated these to begin with... then I realized they ship them with the "+6db" setting jumper installed. So the door panels and speakers came out to access the crossovers and set them to +0db, and they are MUCH better. They are a little sneaky in that they don't seem power hungry because they are quite punchy with around 20 watts RMS from a HU, but they seem to have a hard time with vocals and mids until you push them with an amp. Once I changed the jumper and installed a Clarion compact amp (very cool little amp) pushing 45 watts RMS to these speakers they are far better and much more balanced. They lack low bass of course, but the highs are smoother and the mids start to come through, and I still dig that punchy bass.
Pros: affordable, with clean highs and punchy bass
Cons: Power hungry, and default crossover settings are crazy.

I can't speak to the supplied tweeters as I have the woofers paired up with Alpine tweeters, but the woofers are great. As others have said they are better with an amp. I would actually go further and say an amp is a necessity to appreciate these woofers. I initially hooked them up to my stock stereo alone and was not happy with the results. The difference with an amp is night and day with the volume turned up at all. I have them installed in a small roadster and at least in my installation a sub is not necessary.
Pros: Loud, clear sound.
Cons: None as long as they are paired with an amp.

GREAT ALL AROUND SPEAKER!
Crutchfield customer from Liberty Hill, TX on 11/29/2017
This series is my go to speaker. Especially the db6502. Nice bright highs, and more bass than you really would expect. These sound great even in less than ideal installations, and when used with a set of 6x9's, has enough bass that most think a sub is installed. I love these speakers and so do all of the clients I have installed them for. One caveat: They do like and need power. Those complaining about the muddy sound with their 14 watt RMS head units are thinking these speakers are the panacea for those too cheap to amplify, and get angry when they get muddy at loud volume on low watt head units. The distortion with a stock Pioneer at level 25 is extreme, and these speakers reproduce that well. Be aware of what you are getting, and plan to amplify these (optimally with 100watts RMS) to get the most volume and best sound out of these. Even 40 watts RMS works well with these, though they like more. My recommendation is the Pioneer GMD-8604 for these speakers to work the best, IMO. Good luck!
Pros: EVERYTHING

Good upgrade
Steve from Ft Eustis, VA on 11/11/2017
I wanted to upgrade the speakers in a Chevy Express cargo van and the salesperson suggested these. I had already set my mind on another brand and was apprehensive and the change. Given my current speakers were... awful, I went with the Polks. I'm glad I did. They produce a clear sound and don't distort when listening to music at a higher volume (it is a cargo van and a little volume helps). Everything I read prior to the install suggested the tweeter placement should be up high and facing toward you. I did just that and found the tweeters are too loud, even at -3. More research suggests moving the tweeters closer to the woofer. I would suggest temporarily mounting the tweeters in different locations prior to arriving at a final solution. Overall, I'm happy. The vehicle install hardware provided by Crutchfield was a tremendous help. Sometimes the little things mean the most.
Pros: Easy install. Perfect fit. Good sound. These make a great factory speaker upgrade.
Cons: The tweeters are a little too clear and loud. An alternate mounting location should be tried (lower and not pointed at you).

I'm currently running these off of a Kenwood head unit (22w RMS) and they sound pretty good. But the reality is that these speakers need to be amped . I bought these because they have lower frequency response than most others because I don't plan on getting subwoofer . Going to buy Polk 6x9s for rear deck and get 4 channel 70 watt amp . It's nice that these speakers are water proof as well . It should sound awesome when I get done! The customer service people at crutchfield were cool and professional, I also recieved a free pair of Polk nue era head phones which was nice .
Pros: Affordable price , water proof , clear highs , decent low end for a component system .
Cons: Mid range is muddy and flat, hoping to solve that with an amp and some EQ fine tuning

A very reasonably priced upgrade
David from Orlando, FL on 8/23/2017
2012 Nissan Leaf
These are now the front door speakers in my 2012 Nissan Leaf-replacing the cheap factory speakers, which weighed about 2 ounces each. Because Polk made this a set with crossovers and tweeters which could be surface-mounted, I've also done away with the factory tweeters (which used a capacitor as its version of a crossover), and now have the Polk tweeters on the doors, closer to my ears than on the factory pillar location. Obviously, the whole frequency spectrum sounds much better than the OEM speaker set. "Muddy" described all frequencies before, not just the bass-unclear in general. I chose these speakers because they were listed to reproduce lows down to 35 Hz, which was better than most all others (certainly in a reasonable price range) Crutchfield offered-but I would say the roll-off begins, really, around 45-50 Hz. Still, they do quite well, low range, and I would have to finagle a sub into this picture to get better. And since I wanted to keep all the factory head unit's functions (which Crutchfield recommends), working in a sub would be difficult to pull off. And I downright LOVE Crutchfield's install instructions, complete with pictures. With the adapter mounts they included at no extra charge, it ended up being even easier than they said it would be. Now-to move onto the rear door speakers!
Pros: Clean sound, even from factory head unit
Cons: Woofers don't reproduce lows as well as I'd hoped-but I understand it's not a sub.

I'm very happy with these speakers. Installed in honda crv 2011 se powered by headunit kenwood dpx592bt (22w rms), first difference i noticed is clear and bright highs (i set tweeter crossovers to +3 db, because +6db was too bright for me). Mids and lows are much better comparing to factory speakers. I like how i feel cleaner bass now, because factory ones gave me that unpleasant buh-buh hit to my head. Factory had a sound "under veil", Polk gave me clear and fuller sound. Now want to replace rear ones with db652. Big thanks to crutchfield for providing free bracket- adapters for my car, it made installation for a first timer so easy (the devil/pain is always in the details).

Overall, these speakers sound great! I have these installed on the factory Mygig head unit, which does lack power. Sound quality is very noticeable and a welcomed improvement from the horrific factory speakers that come in a Wrangler. The equalizer settings for bass, mid, and treble are now usable above "0". In fact, I have my bass set from "3 - 5", depending on genre. I believe most people will likely be happy with just changing the speakers to these Polk components. However, I will look into adding an amp and/or a different head unit in time. As for the install, the process went well. I lined the internal surfaces of the Wrangler speaker pods with Peel and Seal from a local hardware store to add some structure and sound deadening to the plastic shell speaker pods. I also added the poly fill behind the speakers. The crossovers fit well VHB in place inside the speaker pods of both the front and rear sound bar. The fronts seem to have a pocket that the crossover fits perfectly into. The woofer adapter rings fit perfectly to the speaker pods, no new holes were drilled. For tweeters, I cut mounting plates out of 3/16" Acrylic sheet, tracing the factory tweeters. Be sure to check speaker polarity on each speaker prior to wiring the crossover input, don't go off of wire color alone. I tested the front speakers without the sound deadening material in the front and noticed a large difference with it installed. The poly fill doesn't seem to add much benefit.

Got these speakers on a recommendation from Crutchfield. Always used Kickers, but went with the experts. They cant handle any bass at all. Popping and rattling on even any real power. I thought maybe because I was still using the stock head unit. But I dont think so. Going for my Kickers again.
Pros: good highs
Cons: tinny highs and no bass

Perfect Speakers for a Jeep
Benjamin from Greenville, SC on 7/16/2017

I bought these speakers for my Jeep Wrangler and couldn't be happier. They have incredible mids and highs and show detail my songs that I had never been able to hear before. On top of all that, they are marine grade, which is perfect for an open air Jeep. Honestly these speakers are powerful enough with an amp that you don't even need a sub. Thanks Crutchfield for some awesome speakers!
Pros: -Great mids and highs -Marine grade
Cons: Lows are really only powerful at high volumes (a sub would fix this but still isn't necessary)

Absolutely awesome in S2000

2005 Honda S2000
All I can say is WOW! I didn't know what I was missing until installing these. The head unit is a Sony MEX-XB100BT (40w x 4 RMS). Crystal clear highs and vocals, tremendous firm bass (compared to OEM 20W poly cones). Fast, easy installation in 2005 Honda S2000 doors behind factory grills., OEM mounting brackets, and OEM spacers. The tweeters fit perfectly using factory back strap and Polk supplied surface mount cups, but I provided the #6 machine screw, nut, flat washer & lock washer (one per tweeter). No need for modifications, tape, or silicone. I opted to mount the cross-overs using four 7-inch ty-raps to the factory wire harness anchor tight against the inside door skin. this is below and forward of the OEM speaker hole. An alternate location is between the door liner and door at the lower rear corner using double-sided tape. In this vehicle, it is absolutely a game changer. You will not be disappointed (over OEM). I'm very happy with this selection and would buy again. I'm thinking of a pair for the boat.
Pros: Crystal clear vocals Awesome bass (over OEM) Tweeter easily mounted to OEM backstrap Easy installation behind factory grills No modifications required for S2000 doors Lots of hardware
Cons: price

Tweeters Crackle with Stock stereo
Anthony A from Hackettstown NJ on 7/6/2017
2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek
the woofers are really nice and the tweeters are crisp however I feel like I was wronged by Crutchfield. After i put these in, around 3/4 volume the tweeters start crackling. The stock speakers in my xv crosstrek did not do this at even full volume. much louder. its extremely frustrating because I thought these would be able to take much more power than my crappy stock speakers. So I called Crutchfield to ask what the heck happened only to find out that its because my Stock stereo doesnt produce enough power to send good signal to the tweeters at high volume. It seems like they tried to suck me into buy the speakers only realize I needed to now buy more equipment for these to even work properly. I feel Scammed by Crutchfield. Not the speakers fault. Service fault. Other than that, I installed myself and the directions were difficult to follow so I called Crutchfield for help and they were extremely helpful with putting them all together wiring and all. So that was a plus. I wouldnt have bought these speakers had I known I would have to buy a stereo for them also. Instead of now saving money for a subwoofer I wanted, I have to figure out a way to get these speakers to work...
Pros: Crutchfield was very helpful when I called for assistance to install it
Cons: Felt scammed because they dont work properly with my stock stereo and Crutchfield knew I wasnt changing my stereo and recommended these speakers anyway

Great highs and mids even from stock head unit!
Scott from Austin, TX on 6/29/2017
Great set of component speakers. Installed these in the stock location of my 2014 Subaru Outback. Crutchfield instructions were clear as usual. I did find a better way to remove head unit online. Once installed and cross over was tweaked, the sound is amazing. At first I only had time to install on the drivers side as my wife uses the car during the week. This left new speaker and tweeter on the drivers side and stock Subaru speakers/tweeter on the passenger side. Fading to the new speaker I was at first disappointed with the lack of base in the woofer. But, now that I have had time to install the remaining speakers and actually set up the cross over, I am very satisfied with the power of the speaker. The absolutely scream and the woofers put out a good bit of bass for only being a 6.5. With all levels flat I can nearly turn the stock head unit all the way up. Once I install a good after market head unit I can only imagine what the sound will be when the speakers get all of the power that they can handle, not just the wimpy output of the stock head unit.
Pros: Great sound and power handling capabilities. Simple set up.
Cons: None. Polk rocks as usual. Don't bother with other speaker brands.

Buy em!

I initially had these powered by my head unit (Alpine 163BT) and the sound would distort at higher volumes. I recently installed a 75 watt RMS amp and they woke up in a big way. I can push the volume to max and they sound crisp and clear. Absolutely satisfied but they definitely need an amplifier because they're very power hungry.
Pros: Great highs and mids.
Cons: None, Just give em power!

Crossover has 3 different settings, inside the box!
Dennis from Ft Collins, CO on 6/8/2017
2012 Ford Fiesta
The speakers are good, the instructions from polk are pathetically weak! After installing, the tweeters were way too bright, and the low end was not what I had hoped for. I had put some sound absorbing material in the doors, and put those foam baffles (with the bottoms cut out) behind the woofers. After reading some online forums, I opened the doors back up , and opened the crossovers box. There are 3 different settings inside the crossover, O db, +3 db, and +6 db. !! It came from the factory with a red pin set on the +6 setting. I plugged it into the 0 db and they do sound a lot more balanced. But the instructions from Polk didn't say a word about having the option to change this! I am hoping the bass "loosens up" over time and gets a bit funkier. I am running this on my factory HU, so I am sure a power amp would boost things, I just don't have it in me to get that involved, at least for now.

Good Sound, Slightly Difficult Install
Matthew from Ann Arbor, MI on 6/1/2017
2012 Ford Focus
I have purchased Polk's from Crutchfield before and that's what drew me to these speakers. I was looking for a set of component speakers to replace the stock ones in my Ford since the tweeters were crackling and on the verge of being blown out. These speakers arrived quickly and with all the necessary parts to install but the directions were slightly unclear, especially with the wiring since there are now crossovers in my system that weren't there before. I had to call Crutchfield to get the explanation on how to properly do the wiring but they helped perfectly with that. There was a slight modification that I needed to make for the tweeters to fit which hadn't be made aware for both the front and rear tweeters which wasn't in the MasterSheet. Once in the car, they sound great and the crossover makes a world of difference (since it is actually splitting the frequencies between the woofer and the tweeter unlike on the stock set up). The woofers have a nice punch to them and the tweeters help give that immersed surround sound feel in a car. These speakers sound great and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants an upgrade to their stock set up for a decent price.
Pros: -Good sound both in tweeters and woofers -All materials provided -Customer service very helpful -Fast delivery even though it said out of stock -Much better sound quality at higher volumes
Cons: -MasterSheet was barely helpful -Inadequate wiring guide (for the harness to the crossover) -Crossovers are quite large -Install took far longer than anticipated (due to poor MasterSheet and modifications that had to be made)

Perfect replacement for Jeep

Replaced the front speakers in my 2007 Jeep Wrangler with these Polk speakers and what an improvement! Put the Polk DB652s in the back soundbar. These speakers replaced the factory speakers with very little issue physically. The tweeters were pretty easy to fit into the dash mounted housing of the Wrangler and the woofers mounted to the speaker pods with little trouble. They sound WAY better than the cheap factory speakers they are replacing.

Factory speakers can't compare
Aaron from Loyal, WI on 5/15/2017
2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Great all around woofer/speakers. Right now these are are hooked up to my factory radio, but they still bump! They are underutilized at this time but they were easy to install with the given wiring adapters and crossover. The only dislike i had with these was using self tappers to install. I'm not a big fan of having to drill into metal body panels. The clips that came with, I couldn't get to mount. I used boom mat when I put these in as well. Wonderful fit and finish. I didn't need to, nor did I use the grilles that came with. The installation instructions that came with the speakers made it clear what to do.
Pros: had to use self taping screws to mount, had to use crossover.
Cons: Sound/perform great, look great!

Very Good Sound, Easy Install
Mike from Mount Pleasant, SC on 5/12/2017
2000 Subaru Outback
Woofer installation was simple with near perfect fit into existing factory opening. Bass response is very good, not muddy or lacking punch at low or high volume. I did bump up bass setting on EQ, but that was more preference than anything. Tweeters seem a little harsh around 12kHz-15kHz, but quite acceptable given the price and ability to compensate with EQ adjustment. Tweeters easily fit within factory openings; however, wiring in my car was problematic. Ended up mounting on dash by window columns which was simple. Mounts provided for the tweeters worked fine. Would be nice if the crossovers were smaller in size. Wiring connections to crossover were easy and cables provided for all speakers had connectors on one end which was convenient.
Pros: Comes with all the installation materials; good bass response; very efficient output
Cons: Tweeters slightly on the shrill side; crossovers are big

High quality
Travis from Mesa, AZ on 5/12/2017

Very good clean natural sound. Incredible handling power without over exertion. The Silk domes tweeters are smooth with just the right amount of brightness, not metallic sounding. The sweet spot is finding the right DB level for your preference. That is achieved by opening up the supplied crossover and changing the PIN OUT for either 0 DB, 3 DB, or 6 DB gain. Very good quality for the price. You will not be disappointed.
Pros: Smooth sounding, not bright. Well balanced,

I have this hooked up to just the factory radio and I am pretty impressed with the way they sound. I can not wait to hear what 100 watts rms will sound like.
Pros: Price for performance. Just as good as much more expensive comps.

Ben into car audio systems for 32 years, I was putting in amps , decks subs, building boxes, since I was 15..... usually kenwood and Rockford fosgate,... I just pulled out some new fosgate coaxials, I couldn't stand them, just blaring and piercing... replaced with these polk seperates, and they sound like the best speakers , i've ever heard... I'm running these on a kenwood deck with some minor dsp settings to tweak the imaging a little, off of a fosgate p3002 amp, and a 5002 amp bridged to one fosgate 12 " punch sub , in a truck book that fits in the spare tire well of my prius.. I'm usually running this system with sub almost completely off ..sounds great...
Pros: Sound awesome clear, great imaging. Detailed, highs are great, lows are great.. price is great...
Cons: None...
