As part of a kitchen-plus renovation we replaced the whole ceiling to allow for easier electrical & lighting work. I took advantage of this opportunity to extend sound from the adjacent living room into the kitchen & den areas. These brackets made planning a breeze and I can't wait to hear my speakers (in-ceiling MC60s x 4) in the completed space. Each pair comes with ample screws to fasten the tabs to joists/strapping. and there are helpful indentations in the plastic to get a sense of squareness. The circular rim is just deep enough to not interfere with drywall installation, and once in place, this will rest on the drywall to provide additional support. I did a dry-run installation while the ceiling was open, but the unit didn't seem sturdy enough in open space to hold my speakers. I set the rim on the adjacent strapping to get a basic idea of the sound, and then repositioned them slightly, to the center of the square formed by the joists and strapping. At this price point, they may seem a little pricey, but these are built to do one thing very well, and it's worth knowing that I've correctly positioned the speakers for the best sound before the drywall is in. I was able to do all the work un-assisted, which may also be of value to some.
Pros: Purpose built for MC60s Integral part of speaker positioning in advance of drywall Lightweight & versatile, ample screws provide for installation Indents and lines make alignment a breeze
Cons: Before drywall is hung, these will flex enough to make installing speakers for testing to require more trust than I could muster.
They get the job done. They're over priced and are the only product available for the application. I'd like them to be a bit more sturdy, similar to track mounts for can lights. That being said, they do what they're made to do.

Pros: Easy install, makes sure speakers are installed in correct area and end up with clean look
Cons: none
These brackets made installation of my speakers in the ceiling very easy. Thanks for suggesting that I purchase them.
Pros: Make installation easy. No problems.
Cons: None
these are great. They were really easy to install between rafters and it was super easy to cut out speaker hole once sheet rock was installed. A must have if you are installing prior to sheet rock.
Pros:
Cons:
So far so good. Bought these to assist with installing the ceiling speakers during the basement finishing project. Drywall is going up today and the guys have used these as a guide. Speaker install is still a few weeks away.
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: None
These are a must if you're dealing with new construction or bare joists. It simplifies wiring location, drywall cutout and installation.
Pros: Easy installation. Puts speakers exactly where you want them.
Cons: None.
Looks nice gives a good backing so it doesn't crush the sheet rock
Pros: It works very well
Cons: Had to really support it with 2x4 to flimsy for the money
I would not have installed the speakers without these mounting brackets. The speakers have clamps that turn and apply pressure to the rear side of the wall pulling the speaker tight to the outside of the drywall. These brackets stop the speaker clamp from simply crushing the drywall and rendering the wall useless to holding the speaker in firmly. They could mount a little better to the studs before drywall is put in. They stayed in place and the drywall installers knew exactly where to cutout and easily cutout around the mounting brackets with their rotary drywall cutting tool.
Pros: Keep speakers firming mounted. Help cut drywall exactly to size.
Cons: None
These are an excellent way to handle ceiling speakers during construction. Very easy to install.
Pros: Simple, easy, quick
Cons: A little flimsy but, doesn't really hurt anything since it;s just meant as a way to locate speakers prior to drywalling
These brackets are flimsy, they are impossible to get square and keep square as you screw them into the studs. This means the drywall holes will not be totally square either - especially if they use a router which will push the bracket around as they attempt to "outline" the bracket in the drywall. I have not installed the speakers yet, but I am imagining I will have to make the whole square with a drywall knife when it comes time for me to install them. The only reason I bought these was so that I could very easily show the builder where to pull speaker wire to and to have the drywall people router the holes for me. Otherwise I would have to rely on them to measure out and cut speaker locations and I did not want them to mess it up.
Pros: Useful to designate speaker location for wire pulls and drywall install.
Cons: Flimsy, impossible to get and keep square. Expensive for what you get.
These are worth every bit of 50 bucks. Would have taken awhile to fab up and they guarantee the sheetrock guys know where to cut your speaker holes.
Pros: Fast simple and error free
Cons: Just a templet, not for structural mounting.
