Great speakers to put new life in to an old receiver that has been assigned to garage duty these days. Forgot how good it was to hear clear highs and feel some bass while cranking out garage chores. Definitely a great choice at this price to annoy anyone from the children to the neighbors.

I've had many speakers over the years: B&W, Energy, Mirage, Pinnacle Monitor Audio, Elemental Designs... I hooked these up to my Pioneer Elite SC-27, gave them about 10 hours- anyone who says they need more is not being honest. They sound the same today at about 300 hours as they did hour 10. Build quality is average, parts quality is a little disappointing. They look hefty, they're not. The speaker grills are as cheap as I've ever seen, the top end is okay, little too bright. The lows are there for a speaker of this size, but I wanted more from the power port. Want to know the difference between a quality speaker and a cheap one without even hearing them? Look at the terminals. These are as cheap as it gets. The finish is decent. I've heard people say the finish is gorgeous. No, they're not even close to that. To be fair, I've had very few speakers near this price point. I've had the Polk Signature S15, and these are slightly better. I attribute that to the larger woofer and cabinet. I paid $200 for a new pair of Energy RC-10. Those were better in every regard.

Great bookshelf speakers

I purchased these Polk RTi A3 bookshelf speakers to match the CSi A4 center from Polk Audio. I bought all three in cherry color which is truly amazing in real life. I am breaking in the A3's around 20 hours so far. They sounded bright, weak and awful out of the box but the sound has gotten better each hour and now they are starting to open up. The sound now is perfect and it's going to get better with time. I am using an Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver and pushing enough power to the speakers and they sound great. Make sure you have a decent amp and give them 50 or more hours of proper break in and the rewards will be worth it. I love them and everything sound crisp & clear, the bass is nice too considering they are bookshelf speakers. Polk Audio has come a long way and they are high end speakers indeed. Go buy them and enjoy.

Pros: Excellent built quality Amazing sound quality Superb price

Polk Audio ATi A3's speakers are nothing short of incredible. Awesomely dynamic bass, razor sharp highs...and delectably sweet mid-range. These replace a pair of Bose 301's....these Polk Audio speakers are ten times the speakers they replace. Simply put...I chose wisely. Shoutouts to Crutchfield for great products along with quick and sure service.....once again :). THANK YOU !!!

Stunningly beautiful crystal quality sound! As beautiful as they look they sound amazingly better! I was completely shocked at the clarity and richness of sound. They perform way beyond any expectations I could ever have had. These are my first Polk Audio purchase, and have made me a customer and fan FOR LIFE!

Pros: Artfully crafted, aesthetically beautiful, highly durable with extremely impressive performance! Rich smooth bass, sharp, clear, well defined highs, and perfectly blended mids...

Cons: Could easily demand a much higher price tag....

Perfect Rounded Out Sound Option

Julie from Brooklyn on 6/6/2020

Just received them and hooked them up to my newer Onyko AVR. My Polk towers had a most unfortunate accident and needed to be replaced. After 3 calls to Crutchfield, and a separate purchase from KEF directly, Aaron suggested these for what I was needed that my new KEFs couldn't push - essentially bass depth. Breaking them in with some Pink Floyd and Tom Petty at the moment. These babies don't seem to need much breakin past the first 60 seconds. They sound great, crystal clear on the highs and a nice solid depth on bass. They're positioned in a 400 sqft room and more than do the job without my new KEFs or new S35 Polk Center hooked up. Will likely add a sub at some point, but for now need to be careful not to get evicted for noise disruption. As these are replacing towers, and without a sub, you will not get that hard bass punch with these speakers. However, if you don't need to sound like a nightclub you will likely appreciate the sound array these speakers deliver. Thanks Crutchfield, you made this music lover, with a persnickety tonal quality, very happy. Will be purchasing all my audio needs from the experts - you!

Pros: - Clean, crisp highs and solid midish bass. - Wall mount option - required for me - Excellent aesthetic and construction

I also owned the Monitor series from Polk. These are an upgrade. Additionally I have a pair of A7's and the center A6 along with a 12 inch sub and surrounds. I initially had the A7's setup as my fronts for a year. They sounded good with music and movies. I had the A3's in a 2nd room. As an experiment I swapped these with the A7's. Boy was I happy. I ended up with better imaging and more depth in the soundstage. The reason is probably my fault. I had the A7's in a small 15x15 foot room. I had them place with only 3 inches from the rear wall. The A7's need 18 to 24 inches of space from the wall. I verified this with a 2nd experiment. I can't have speakers sitting out that far in a small room so the A3's are what I am going with. The A3's also should have space and I was able to give them 12 inches. Also the smaller size creates less bass reflecting from the walls. The RTI line up is well made and uses top notch drivers. You can power them with just about any amp.

Pros: Nice size, not too small, not too big. Quality construction and excellent drivers. Images well. Great for home theater, jazz, r&b, classic rock, etc.

Cons: Better with a sub for most music types

Great full rich sound from a small speaker. This was purchased to be mainly used as the front speakers in a surround sound system and they preform well with nice rich full sound. Paired them with a Polk Csi A6 center channel speaker. Listening to music they have a nice crisp clarity and a surprisingly good tight bass for their size.

Pros: Great balanced sound for TV, movies or music. We purchased the Cherry at they look beautiful and and our very solid built.

Handles power well, tight bass and detailed highs. Hooked up to acoustec 12 inch subwoofer. I was gonna get the bose 301 but Hunter suggested this and man he was right. It's paired with a 30 yr old bose 10.2 which I replaced all speakers. Reciever is a 30 yr old Sony strd 2010, system has seen a revival, as all hooked up to a. Samsung ru 8000 65 inch, hooked up with digital optical, when I got that reciever I didn't know what the optical output was, amazed by the quality of sound. I bought these for my 13 yr old as I know Polk is decent stuff. For this price I didn't expect to be blown away but without a sub these things slam. Clear clear clear. And this is off a basic receiver. I am ordering a better receiver just for them. I am so surprised. They fill a 12x15 room

Pros: clean sound. Smooth highs. Mids are not lost and full punch base for a bookshelf. Never been this happy with anything at this price point. Well done

Cons: not really a con but if you want booming base you gotta have a low pass xover and a sub.

Bought these based on their outstanding reviews. I'm happy to say they didn't disappoint! Well balanced and make great front or surround speakers. They are set up in an awkward room not the best for sound and these little speakers with the RTiA4 center do a great job filling the space with a solid sound stage of full neutral sound. They are not the warmest sounding speakers, but they are not broke in yet either. I'm sure they will get better after A few weeks of playing. Great value!

I haven't even really broken them in yet but they sound fantastic out of the box. I have them being powered by an Onkyo tx-nr686 and have been listening to prime music HD. Mostly classic rock. I previously was using Polk audio S15 bookshelf speakers but I so far prefer the sound of these Polk audio rti a3 speakers. Shipping was fast and they arrived in perfect condition. Polk Audio RTi A3 - Solid speakers, great price, very good performance

Crutchfield customer from Peachtree Cor, GA on 4/1/2020

The PA RTi A3 were purchased to enhance the sound from our TV without installing a full surround system. They are being powered by a Sony STR-DH810 AVR which is set at the stereo setting. Our primary listening area is 16' wide x 12' deep with 8' ceilings; however the room opens to our kitchen and dining room, so there are times when we are listening from 20-25 feet from the speakers. I am very pleased with the depth of sound produced at the low, middle and high ranges. Voices, background sounds and music are reproduced clearly without distortion. Their sound reproduction when listening to music through an MP3 player is also very pleasant. I did not by these with expectations of being the finest reproduction of sound but to provide an noticeable upgrade to our TV's speakers and to play music as a background filler. They have exceeded my expectations and would highly recommend them to others looking for the same sort of performance.

Great Little Rock n Roll Speakers

Guest from Kansas City on 1/6/2020

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I purchased the RTI A3's for my daughters home office a few months back so they have had time to loosen up , and they are great. I own the A1's using them in a two speaker set up for music and TV as my wife doesn't want large towers in the living room so I knew what I was buying! My daughter spins all my old vinyl from the 60-70-80's using my vintage Kenwood amp and Techniques turntable. While these are not by any means "Bass Heavy" they are very capable of producing enough clear /clean bass to make listening enjoyable. These RTI A3's sound a lot like their little brothers that I own except with a little more low end which makes for a slightly fuller overall sound. Here's what she's spinning that I have listened to on the above set up, Allman Brothers, Stones, Doors, REO, Zeplin, Cream, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Skinard, Clapton, Montrose, Hendrix, Beatles, Trower, Cheap Trick, Nuget, CSNY, Cars, Talking Heads, Molly Hatchet, Def Lep, Joplin, T Rex, BOC, BTO, The Who, Stooges, V Halen, Fleetwood, Deep Purple, Eagles, Point Blank, Santana, Floyd etc... etc.... along with newer stuff from Gov Mule, Bonamassa, Greta Van Feleet, Black Country, Walter Trout, Chicken Foot etc..etc...so in short this review of the great sounding little A3's isn't based on Classical, big band, Rap or Electronic Rave Music. Its solely based on music that I have listened to for years and know how every note should sound and feel. For the money, these are "Grand Theft". Get yourself a Lawyer.

Pros: Sound produced is well above their price tag. Clear and clean at all volume levels that most would classify as normal and well beyond. Can be BI Amped or BI Wired. Have a bracket for wall hanging or DIY speaker stands. The Cherry Cabinets are beautiful and kind of add to the retro look my Daughter loves, but also would go well with any decor. You simply can't get this quality of "box", physical or cosmetic at double or triple price point. Definitely built to last.

Cons: None. There is a reason these RTI series Polk speakers have been around for a while.

These are amazing speakers. I'm not a crazy audiophile, but I am a music maniac who has a need to listen to things on high quality equipment. I did a ton of research, and narrowed it down to these and the also highly-rated ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2. I was able to listen to both, and while the ELACs are really nice, these are simply fantastic. They can fill a room with sound that is both loud and clear - they get very good bass response and the mids and highs sing without coming across as too harsh. These speakers just have a "musical" quality about them. Excellent stereo imaging, and tracks just blend together in the way they were meant to be heard. No complaints about these at all. Highly recommended. If there's any con to these, it's perhaps that they're very big? They were a little deeper than the ones I replaced, so it's tight on my shelf. But seriously, they're excellent. I'm looking to add other matching Polks to my home audio system now, as I use these for my home theater as well.

Great speakers for the price range. Bought them to replace a pair of Boston Acoustics, M25B M-Series 200W 2-Way Premium Bookshelf Speakers. They are louder and more crisp than the Bostons. I do not like that the wall mount brackets can't be removed without leaving an ugly unfinished look. Fairly heavy and large speakers if you were planning on mounting them to a wall.

Pros: sound and price range.

Cons: attached wall mount brackets can't be removed.

I purchased these based on Tim's recommendation. I'd been considering a set that were three times more expensive but Tim said these would be a better fit with my receiver and existing surround speakers. These were a bit of a compromise since I would have preferred floor standing speakers but everything I considered were too tall. The clarity and fullness in the mid and upper ranges are very impressive and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm upgrading my sub to better fill in the mid-low range. First of all I am a devote music lover. For years, I'd thought my Paradigm monitors sounded really good. But wow, after listening to the RTi A3's I'm really impressed with the overall imaging. It feels like sound is coming from the entire room, No need for a subwoofer. The bass is full and more than enough to satisfy. The treble clear and the midrange is smooth and not muffled. My vintage Nikko NR-1219 receiver is powering the RTI A3's with ease. My friends honestly thought the sound coming from my office were from full sized floor standing speakers. You should have seen their faces when they saw the RTI A3 bookshelves perched on the stands. Honestly, one of them asked where did I have the powered sub hidden?! These well-built speakers should really be selling for $500 or more. These are keepers. Good job Polk.

Pros: Well built cabinet. Crystal clear sound. Ample bass.

I bought 4 of these to replace an older pair of Bose speakers in my small home office, WOW, what a huge difference!! These small bookshelf speakers with the sub really kick the small room!! At times I like to crank the volume and there is NO distortion of unwanted noise!! Clean sound at any volume. Highly recommend these! The grill on one of the speakers had the top two tabs broken off when I opened the boxes. I emailed Crutchfield and they sent me a replacement grill in 2 days with a return label to send the defective original back. You can buy quality speakers at many dealers but you can't beat Crutchfield's support, and that's why I've been a customer of theirs for over 20 years.

I don't often write reviews, but feel inspired by this experience. Sales staff very knowledgable and steered me in the right direction to begin with, after going over some of my needs. I don't have high end components, middle of the road Denon, and listen to a wide variety of music. Jazz, rock, classic, folk. These speakers are very versatile as well as efficient. Decent bass for their size without a sub-woofer. Much more speaker than I was expecting for the price. My only negative comment is to get that sound, the speakers are very deep, so check your locations' dimensions for fit. I had to rig something up to hold them on the bookshelf .

Pros: Sound, price, versatility and efficiency

Cons: a bit bulky

My wife got me a turntable for Christmas and was going to be a hassle hooking it up with my surround system in a tv rack. So I ordered these for simple stereo music listening in a living room. Running them with an older Denon AV receiver, they sound great with vinyl as well as Bluetooth receiver. They take some power to drive, so plan accordingly. The develop pretty good base at louder volume, but not much at lower listening levels. This is similar to most bookshelf speakers, but I'm sure these have better bass than the speakers with smaller woofers. Long term will want a sub, but keeping it simple for now. I used the Crutchfield comparison tool to compare these to MA Bronze 2 and Klipsch by the way. The Monitor Bronze would win, but not by enough to justify the price difference. Happy listening.

Sweet Sound for a Sweet Price!

HTFan from CA on 2/5/2019

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Look, this model along with the Polk-Audio-TSx220B in Cherry of course, are the 2 best bookshelf or monitor speakers offered by Polk (IMHO). Paired with a real subwoofer (No Polk subs please) it will produce an audio experience hard to beat for the money. That being said...Polk has dropped the ball in most other areas like in their subwoofers which I don't get? (weak, flabby and they fail when pushed). I know making a true subwoofer is an art, but, Polk has speaker design mastered so I just don't get it. If Polk ever does master the art of subwoofer design? Then, they'll be a force to reckon with for sure. Until then, Polk fans are relegated to supplementing Polk audio with another brand of subwoofer. Back to the RTi A3's.... In a standard living room these RTi's will deliver sonic sweetness without a subwoofer if listening to Music only. When properly arrayed and calibrated, these RTi's will surprise even the Audiophile. A polished look with a polished sound. Many consumers don't realize that most homes don't need a stereo pair of speakers any larger than these RTi's. They will play very loud without breakup or honking. Are there better speakers out there for the same money? Yes! ELAC B5 is 1 example that comes to mind. But, for most folks seeking sweet speakers for Jazz and the like? These are your puppies. ~ peace

Pros: Sweet Jazz & Classical music delivery. Polished design.

Cons: Better speakers out there at this price range.

Nice Speakers for The Price and Size

Lynn from Fayetteville, AR on 1/14/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These are a nice set of speakers. I was looking for front L/R speakers that would fit in my living room surround sound bookcase, to be used for tv and movies, as well as music. I've had nice audio equipment for 40 years, so have a house full of big speakers. i had been using some Sony tower speakers that sat on top of a 7 foot shelf. I had picked up some nice used equipment that included some Klipsch tower speakers. These were large and VERY heavy. I had put them on top of the 7 foot shelves, but was not really happy with the sound. Decided they were just too high compared to the listening position for the room, so experimented with some smaller speakers around the house that would fit in the shelf openings. That seemed to be the way to go, and I was in the mood for something new. Really would have preferred something a little larger, but did not want to spend too much. Decided on these after reading about them, and the $240 was a good price point for me. I have a Sony subwoofer hooked up, and also had recently added a new Pioneer center channel speaker. These Polk speakers sound great with rock when pushed louder than I can normally get away with listening levels. Cranking some classic rock sounded great without the sub... enough bass for my taste, and very clear. Since I can't listen to them that loud, they can be a little low on bass at normal levels, so I am using the sub. They are very well made, attractive, and i am pleased with the purchase.

Pros: Well made, attractive, clean sound.

Cons: For the size and price, none.

Outstanding Value!

hal from Norman, OK on 1/11/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The Polk RTi-A3 is an outstanding value for new bookshelf speakers. They are built like $1000+ audiophile speakers, with their gorgeous real-wood (cherry) finish, curved, non-parallel, tapered side panels, gold-plated and biwirable five-way binding posts, satisfying heft and clever port design allowing for more flexible placement options proximal to the rear wall. There is nothing about the design and construction of this speaker that says $239/pr. Fit 'n' finish is exemplary. But how do they sound? Bass. These speakers are rather large by current bookshelf standards, and the size provides an advantage over most other speakers at this price. They get just below 50hz, excellent for a speaker of this size. Although I use dual powered subs in my bedroom system, I turned them off for the first three weeks of listening so that I could better understand how the speaker alone sounds. They are enjoyable without subs, though I prefer to have the bottom octave. Mids and highs. I am accustomed to a very detailed sound because I have new Silver Series MA speakers in my main system. These Polks provide the same sort of detail. Although some say they turn strident at high volumes, it should be understood that it only occurs at very high SPLs - louder than I ever listen, and sometimes I do crank 'em up, though most of my listening is at moderate levels. Mids don't have quite the same resolution as my Silvers (at 5x $), but aren't that far off, either.

Pros: Tight, deep bass for the size Detailed top end Good midrange resolution Exemplary fit 'n' finish Bi-wire gold five-way binding posts Value off the chart

Cons: None, at this price

Tried the Wharfdale Diamond 225 and Yamaha NS bookshelf before setting on the Polk. Excellent out of the box, and even better a week later. Great mids and highs and with the speakers on a bookshelf 6 inches from a wall in the back , sufficient bass to enjoy analos sources.

Pros: Build quality

Cons: None yet.

I ordered these on the advice of Crutchfield tech. Ordered them to pair with Denon receiver and a turntable. Was disappointed in the sound quality. In the process of returning them now. I have since done additional research and found these are decent speakers but by no means great for what I need them for. I originally was looking at Klipsch RP160, martinLogan LX16, and ELAC UB5 but based on the recommendation and i could save a few bucks I went with Polk. Get what you pay for.

Pros: Price - looking basic speakers these may work

Cons: Sound quality for vinyl LPs

Bought these about 3 months ago after a chat session with Nick. We use them on our television and were running them through our Sony 590 receiver. They need break in time so don't make a snap decision on them. But I can tell you they are breaking in beautifully. Sound stage is excellent just make sure you pull them out in front of your furniture, if you really want to hear what you have. When wife leaves for work in the morning (it keeps the peace) I seperate mine about 18ft. the sound for bookshelf speakers is outstanding. Depending on your ears you may want to add a sub. Ty Nick

Pros: excellent sound

Cons: I will need to upgrade to towers and high end equipment someday just because.

Purchased these speakers to pair with my (very old Sony tuner/amp to replace my all-in-one 5:1 Logitech system. The speakers sound better than anything else I've ever had. Good looking, too. Impressed, because my old Sony is a mid-range model with relatively low power. The speakers make it sound fantastic.

Pros: Great sound from low power equipment

I couldn't be more pleased with both Crutchfield and my Polk Audio speakers. We use all Martin Logan in our family room but felt when our front speakers in our bedroom were damaged in a recent move that they might over power the size of it.We also felt were getting a great deal but were sacrificing the quality of speaker.Boy ! were we wrong. Please don't be put off by the very reasonal price tag. The most expensive isn't always the best!

Pros: everything about them from the high's to lows. Love to listen to music my favorite artist is Alison Kraus her voice leaps out and her fiddle seems like it is the room.

Cons: Bigger than expected had to wall mount. Very easy to do however everything was included from the screws to the template.

I need to qualify this review by saying these speakers were purchased to allow me to continue to listen to vinyl in my living room but without my large furniture like floor-standing Revel Performa's, (that part makes my wife happy). Build quality is very good, and the sound is good as well, but the placement and height of the speakers is massively important for the sound stage. Bottom line, the Polk's are solid as always (my third pair - Polk 5jr's in 1991, LSi15's in early 2000, and now these), they will perform as required, won't break the bank, and will continue to open and improve.

Pros: Build Quality, Pleasant to look at, Sound pretty good, decent amount of bass for bookshelf speakers

Cons: Not as captivating as my Revels, but they did cost 10 times more.

Good value for the money

This is a nice set of speakers for a smaller room that could be helped with a subwoofer to extend the bass. Fit and finish is excellent. The split terminals allow bi-amping, however, there is no override for the internal crossover so an active crossover is not possible. Not the best speaker of this size I've heard, but these are the best I've heard in this price range. I also own the older RTi-6s (which I'm now using as back surrounds for a 7.1 AV system), and these are similar in sound, though with slightly less defined highs (which may also be a function of my setup).

Pros: -Excellent fit and finish -Bi-amping support Value for money

Cons: -no low end (as expected for a small bookshelf), so consider adding a sub -Does not support active crossover when bi-amping

Just buy them. You won't regret. Excellent quality, sound and unbeatable price. The sound spectrum lets you hear every detail of your music. I tested the speakers with all types of music (Salsa, Latin Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Pop, Classic, Tropical Jazz, Latin Trio, Latin Ballads like Luis Miguel, etc.). I also tested music that was originally recorded back in the 70's up to 2018. I tested MP3, Wav, CDs, DVD,s Online Music, etc. Besides the great quality and sound, the price is just unbeatable. I compared the sound of these speakers with my other two Monitor Audio tower speakers ($1,500 each) and there is no lost in quality. Of course, the punch and sound definition of the Monitor Audio speakers is superior but the Polk Audio RTi A3 are great and do their job. Delivery was fast and very economic. Great deal. Buy them. You won't regret.

Pros: Full range sound. Strong construction. Great quality. Easy installation.

Cons: Distorts a bit at high volume (over +10db) when playing "punchy bass" music.

Doug from Dayton, OH on 4/29/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The speakers are definitely "bang for the buck" value. I really wanted to like them. Sound is subjective, your listening environment and the up stream components all play a part in the final listening experience. Unfortunately for me the speakers were a little too shrill on the top end and caused listener fatigue with anything more than a casual listening session. As a point of reference I'm using a Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver.

Pros: Nice looking, good value for price

Cons: In my listening environment and components used the top end was too shrill to end up keeping them

Two months ago I purchased a set of polk rti a9 towers from crutchfield and they are amazing. Since all of rti-a series speakers are on sale I decided to replace my old bookshelf speakers for the surround channel. (Back left and right). I was using an old pair of infinity primus 150 speakers. They have a 5-1/4 inch midrange driver and a 1 inch dome tweeter. I expected an improvement in sound quality, but not to the degree that it did. The A3's have excellent highs and amazing low extension for a bookshelf speaker. But what was most surprising is how large the soundstage is, if you listen to these speakers with your eyes closed would you swear you were listening to tower speakers. If your looking to upgrade your home audio set up, the polk rti-a series speakers are an excellent choice. These speakers have great imaging, good tonal balance and produce a huge sound stage. I can't say enough good things about them, give them a try, they are worth it.

Pros: Huge soundstage for bookshelf speakers, amazing low end extension for their size

Cons: None.

A solid foundation to your inevitable stereo obsession

Nicholas from Galveston, TX on 4/18/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The Polk RTi A3's are the first Ive purchased in my rookie venture into the world of quality stereo systems. I have little to compare them to, aside from ~$100 dollar bluetooth speakers, so it should come as little surprise that they absolutely blew me away! (Paired w/ Sony DHR-ST190 reciever, Audio-Technica LP3 turntable, Rocketfish 16g cable) After delving into several articles about how to optimize set-up, room position, etc., I sat in the sweet spot and started experiencing everything i had been missing from casual listening on spotify and the like. I threw everything from death metal to Brahms on my stereo system. Even at mid-volume, I have never personally experienced such full saturation of sounds, high, mid, and low, from a personal system. I listened to albums that Ive heard for years, but on these speakers, for me, it was a completely new experience for each re-listen. If your bookshelf speaker budget is capped at $250, you would be hard pressed to find any better than these.

Pros: Price Immense clarity Full Saturation of Sounds Great Style

Cons: Yet to find any

I have owned a pair of Advent wood bookshelf speakers for about 30yrs. They finally wore out...the sound was very weak at the end. While for an upgrade I found these speakers, looked at the A2, but was intrigued by the A3. When I received them by post a few days later...ooh boy..l thought these were just too big for book shelf size...opened the package..beautiful cherry wood exterior, sturdy well constructed, larger than expected, yet I liked the look, easy set-up ....blown away by the clean, crisp power with a subtle resonance/range....went to the vinyl...absolutely amazing reproduction of sound....I whole-hardly recommend these speakers...for the price EXCELLENT !!

Upgraded my Onkyo speakers with these, and I was not disappointed. I went with the A3s, as I figured the extra thirty bucks for a slightly bigger sound over the A2s was worthwhile. A very full sound. Paired with a Lafayette LR-5555, the tone is warm and didn't seem to require much a break-in period. They do not distort, either. Tone testing showed no vibrations from the speakers, and I actually found that the bass from them was vibrating things in my home, so I had to rearrange a bit. I see these as being my last set of speakers, really. I don't have the space or need for floor units. These are designed for audiophiles, and do a better job with contour than a "monitor" speaker would. I'd highly recommend these, and a good friend of mine is actually picking them up, also.

Pros: -Clarity -Construction -Separation

Cons: Had to apply my own rubber bottoms, as I wanted something a little more sturdy than what was provided.

I ordered a pair of RTi A3's as an upgrade to and old pair of Polk RT35 bookshelf speakers. My old Polks are mounted on speaker stands and I had just added a set of ELAC (front) Dolby Atmos speakers (7-7/8"W x 8-¾"D) which fit perfectly atop each of my RT35's. Although the dimensions of my RT35's are smaller than what is stated for the RTi's (8-3/8"W x 14-13/16"H x 14-3/16"D), it became obvious once I began to retrieve the first RTi A3 from it's comfy cocoon of packaging that due to the tapered design of the cabinet that the width was going to be insufficient to support my ELAC Atmos speakers w/o hang-over towards the back. This was an unexpected bummer since all the customer has to go on is the dimension listed in the description. I didn't bother wiring 'em up or anything, just boxed them back up & obtained a return shipping thing. It didn't take long for Crutchfield to log my return and credit my account but they did smack me in the face with a $10 charge for trusting their inaccurate measurements, which was fantastic...really made me super excited to have been a long term customer. I decided I would try the small towers RTi A5's which unfortunately also have the tapered cabinet but will hopefully be wide enough to hold these little tiny ELAC Atmos speakers without looking retarded. I went back and forth online chatting w/guy who assured me the width was correct as listed for the RTiA5's but at best all I got was a "yeah, that's right" & "looks like 10 ½"W", so we'll see

Pros: beautifully made, never hooked them up

Cons: too small for my application much smaller than dimensions listed in description

I am not a big stereo guy, but, my wife and I decided it was time to have music in the house. I used to have these monster speakers hooked up to my Yamaha amp years ago. I gave those speakers away to one of the kids because of the size. My wife did not want to have really large speakers this time. So, I read reviews on these speakers and decided at the price I couldn't go wrong to start here. I was blown away by the quality of these speakers, and the sound including the bass is amazing. The bass is not chest beating thump, but they are awesome. Would highly recommend these to anyone.

Pros: Amazing sound in a small speaker. Beautiful cherry finish.

Cons: none.

Great sound, great Crutchfield service

I was trying to find a simple but good sounding system for easy Bluetooth connection to use with music streaming services in a gaming area of my basement. After reading various reviews, i went to Besy Buy and bought the powered Klipdch RP15s first. I found them to have little mids and muddy bass. I next tired the Bose Soundtouch 30, which has fairly rich, fairly full sound particularly for vocals and acoustic guitar but but a little soft and not so great when turned up and not as good with a full range of music. I then reached out to a Crutchfield rep and she worked with me to do the Polk RTi A3 speakers with a Onkyo 8260 stereo receiver. The system works well and sounds great. Full range of highs, mids, lows and accurate and crisp. Sounds good at low and higher volumes. Now can add a sub or other inputs as desired. Onkyo unit has a phono input as well. Crutchfield Rep was knowledgeable and very helpful. Thanks.

Pros: Full range of sound for highs, mids and lows. Sounds good with different types of music and at low or high volume. Didn't need a sub.

Cons: Classified as bookshelf speakers, but it takes a good sized bookshelf. Check you measurements before ordering.

Just hooked these up today using my old Harmon Kardon receiver and Technics CD player. I love the sound, which I would describe as "rich" and "real". Been a while since I invested in an upgrade to my home audio system and I almost forgot just how good quality can sound. Right out of the box these sounded amazing and are only getting better as they break in. The room I have them in is 13 x 15 and at first I was a little concerned they may be too much; however, after chatting with one of Crutchfield's amazing customer service representatives I was sold. These fill the room with sound at just the right level. Paired this with an Onkyo TX-NR777 Used for TV and movies (70%) and audio (30%) Surround sound sitting on Sanus NF24 Speaker Stands

Pros: Cherry looks amazing Sound Size

Truly Big, Full Sound from a Bookshelf Speaker

Bought these with a pair of 24" stands for my Zone 2 speakers (to update my muddy-sounding 27-year old Bose 301 Series II speakers). They're amazing! I've listened to classical, jazz, blues, and rock at high and low volumes. Crisp, clean, and surprisingly good bass for a speaker this size. Accurate and very pleasing. Impressive for their size, even when compared to the RTi towers in the home theater (both have the same "Dynamic Balance" tweeters). I was sold on and interested in Polk after picking up a pair of used RTi 10 towers (predecessor to the current RTi A7) for the home theater a few years ago.

Pros: Truly big, full sound from a small speaker.

I have an old Marantz amp with only 30w, so they can only go so loud ... so far (2 weeks) I have enjoyed Metallica, Coltrane, Pagannini, and Christmas rock, pop and classical. All sound great.

This is an initial out of the box review. First let me give a background. I recently purchased the Polk Audio T50 floor standing speakers for my home theater room, based off the price and good reviews. I knew Polk Audio but never had any experience. I took them home and was very impressed with such a cheap priced pair of speakers. We'll now...I had been looking to build a solid stereo system for my room and I knew I needed to see what Polk Had to offer, the RTi series were having a sale, 40% off, so I looked at the RTi A3s, they got great reviews and met my needs. I received the speakers on 12/28/2017 with free shipping from Crutchfield. I unboxed them and instantly I can tell thy were well made with high craftsmanship. I was anxious to get these hooked up to my Yamaha integrated amp. I have these paired with an older Marantz CD5001 player. As I turned them on...I was using "I don't know why" by Norah jones to audition these speakers. Straight out of the box with no break in....I am mind blown, these speakers have really great detail, I can hear every note, Norah Jone's voice sounds natural and not digitized. I truly believe these will get even better once these speakers are truly broken in.

Pros: These speakers don't need a lot of power from what I can tell, I have these speakers powered by a Yamaha A-S301 integrated amp(60watts per channel) an this amp drives these speakers with ease. Solid construction and beautifully crafted.

Cons: Cant see any right now

A real decent pair of speakers. We have them in our great room 800 sq ft, and it fills the room with only those two speakers. Easy to set up, packed well in the box. I expect them to last me years. I went into some big stores and the young salesman were trying to sell me some really cool speakers $1000 plus and telling nothing else would work. What a turn off! These speakers are well worth it. I purchased these speakers to replace a set of floor standing 3 way speakers which were to visually dominant for our dining room. We lived with those monsters for twenty years. I'm glad we made the move. The Polks are almost invisible by comparison, and while they don't produce the volume of sound of the old Technics, you can't fault them for clarity and tone. I listen to all types of music, sixties rock and folk, soul, jazz, classical and everything in between, both on vinyl and digital recordings. The Polks are a step up. I'm considering upgrading our living room set to some floor standing Polks.

Pros: Beautiful cabinet, great sound, perfect size for a small room.

Cons: None.

Unexpected performance for this size and price

Was looking for a pair of speakers for a table-top system consisting of a '76 Tandberg TR2055 (55w) and a '73 JVC VL-8 turntable. Initially, I was worried that a modern speaker wouldn't pair well with a (relatively) lower wattage amplifier, but I couldn't be more happier with these speakers. They were as loud as the Sony *floor standing* speakers they replaced, though they were admittedly lower grade. For the sale price I paid for these, I consider these a steal. Highs and mids are excellent, and bass is much better than expected from a speaker this size. I listen mostly to rock, hard rock, some metal, some folk, and some jazz. I think it performs very well for all of those musical genres, but seem especially suited for acoustic instrument recordings. If there were options for 4 1/2 or even 4 3/4 stars, I would have chosen that as I consider "5 stars" to be something that is unattainable.

Pros: Solidly built, sound great, compact size, work great with lower power amplifiers.

Cons: The bass is somewhat lacking, but these speakers perform FAR better in that department than I expected so I can't really call that a negative.

I just purchased my second pair of these speakers to put in another room. I am currently running them on a Marantz SR5007 and have them biamped. They handle it with no problem at all and put out great sound. Highs are clear and crisp, mid range is full, and bass is respectable and fairly rich considering they are just bookshelf speakers. I use them for music listening (rock, jazz, electronic) and as the fronts for home theater and they handle both with absolutely no problem at all. If you are looking for a competent and capable set of speakers either to fill out a home theater or to use them as the primary speakers for listening to music in a small to medium sized room you should consider these speakers. I have found them to be a great value at a great price.

Pros: Sound quality Price Build and aesthetics

Cons: None, I have been very happy with these speakers

I purchased the speakers for a bedroom. They work great in that space. I listen to Classical, Jazz, and extreme black metal. I drive them with a Onkyo CR N755 and use a Yamaha yst fs wo50 subwoofer. The little Onkyo will drive them to 95 Db at 5 feet at partial volume! I use this setup in my RV during the summer. These are really great speakers. I bought these speakers for a summer house but had them shipped to me so I could test them out. After about 25 - 30 hours of break in they sounded very good. I listened without a sub for a week or so to see how they would do on their own and was impressed. Adding the sub made them even better. I listen to classical, Latin Jazz, blues and classic rock etc. These speakers sound true no matter what I listen to. They perform just as Taylor said they would. He was very helpful and had first hand knowledge of the speakers. I am glad I took his advice. (I held back one star as I have Axiom M22 bookshelf speakers and they are in a different class). I really like these speakers! Thought about returning at first, but glad I didn't! The speaker cabinet is high quality with a curved design. Not sure if this is an acoustical feature, but really different from traditional rectangular enclosures. They don't have much low-end, but I've paired mine with a JBL sub that makes them shine. I'm not an audiophile but for the price and the quality think they can't be beat! I think they might be meant for hanging as surround speakers for home theater use? I'm just using them for music, paired with a yamaha receiver, and Marantz Cd player. I actually recently purchased a second pair. I'm sure they will round out the full sound when sitting in my living room listening in my easy chair like the guy in the old memorex add.... For the price and quality of these little gems, I'd highly recommend them!

Pros: Look, shape or design of cabinets. Feel they are of high quality for the price point. structure on back of cabinet enables mounting on wall with some rear spacing. Bi-wiring capable. The highs sound good. Kind of mellow without too much volume. At higher volumes low distortion, but I don't push them to that point.

Cons: They lack low-end, but kind of expect that from a smaller bookshelf driver. Need to be paired with a sub, or another set that has larger woofers.

WOW! I have not had a chance to listen long enough or to a big enough variety of music, but so far the sound from these speakers is incredible. The clarity is great and there is plenty of bass. Too many people want to enhance the bass so much that it over rides what the total music should sound like. Also, comparing cost from various vendors Crutchfield was actually lowest after considering the free shipping they offered. And speaking of shipping, I received the speakers the day after I ordered them, unbelievable. After I listen to these speakers a bit longer then I can give a better description, but to start they are absolutely worth the price.

I went back and forth on this purchase...not sure why I was hesitating, but after reading all the reviews and already having Polk front and center & sub I decided to pair them with these to use as rear speakers (5.1). I have been listening to a lot more music lately and wanted some rear speakers that would sound as good as the fronts and center. My fronts are bi-amped tsi-300's. The new rti-a3's are not bi-amped and I think they still sound even better than my fronts. The rti-a3's are definitely more full and the highs are excellent. The complement the rest of the setup very well. I have only been listening for about 10 hours or so, but I only expect them to continue to improve after the break in period. I would absolutely purchase these again. Crutchfield is excellent. Thanks !

Pros: The highs are excellent and they really bring the music to life. They still provide decent base, but I use a sub woofer so I can adjust that. I tend to like music with a lot of base (Spotify Deep House Playlist & Groups like Stained & Akshin Alizadeh...).

Cons: Not necessarily a con, but now I'm probably going to spend more money on another pair for my basement setup.

Incredible sonic detail at all volume levels

MikeM from Arlington, Virginia on 1/28/2017

The nearly 100% 5-star rating on these speakers is well deserved. The first thing that is obvious is their incredible frequency range. It seems to go on infinitely in both directions. Highs are crisp and clear and bass is defined and plentiful. You definitely do not need any tone control on these, which is pretty hard to believe - I've never owned a speaker that didn't need at least a touch of treble added for my taste. Impressively, their frequency coverage holds at all volume levels. I find myself listening to these at a lower volume than other speakers since the full spectrum of sound is evident even at very low volumes. I do have a subwoofer but only need to use it to add the slightest amount of feel to the low end. The Polks handle all the sonic details from the bass perfectly well. To be sure I compared these speakers to another brand I tried from Crutchfield (that I returned) and it was no contest. These Polks are in another class altogether. You won't be disappointed with these speakers. Vinyl or digital, everything sounds great. Pro tip: Try the scratch and dent and save a few bucks - mine arrived in perfect condition (it was only the cardboard box that had been damaged).

Pros: Full spectrum of sound, total sonic clarity across all frequencies, great even at low volumes

Cons: Was hoping to see a little more wood grain texture in the walnut finish

Purchased a "used" pair of these off Craigslist and was very disappointed with the ear fatigue and lack of bass. Then I put the speakers through 24 hours of run-in ( breaking-in). To be honest, I'm shocked by the improvement. Night and day. From what I've read, they can continue to improve through 100 hours of use. Suffice to say, I'm psyched about the future with these. The fatigue effect is already a tiny fraction of what it was. The previous owner must not have used them much! He'd said they were used as rears. I'm using them as fronts, and they are fantastic.

I recently wanted to date my speakers from a pair of Polk Audio RTi 38's that I purchased in 2002 which are still thumping strongly. I did a lot of research including listening to top-rated competitors like Klipsch, JBL, Cerwin-Vega and some others as well as reading reviews of all. What I came out to find is that for the sound quality, the Polk Audio RTi A3 bookshelf speakers are far more superior in sound quality than any of their competitors. The overall richness of the bass and the clear crisp tonal quality of the highs give any music the feel of being at a concert. Pure listening pleasure that cannot be surpassed and a price that is more than comfortable to live with. Better than some floor standing speakers.

Cons: They sound very similar to Infinity's Primus 163 at half the price. The Infintys however look cheap and I had woofer problems that could not be resolved so I junked them. I know from past experience, Polk is a good company to deal with.

I'm an audiophile who has owned good equipment over the years and have a good ear for sound. I bought these speakers as a system with the A6 center speaker and 440wi subwoofer. I use it with the excellent sounding Marantz SR 7005 receiver. This is by far my favorite speaker system. It does well on all program sources including vinyl, streaming music, tv, etc. The A3 has a very full sound and good bass even without the bass speaker and the subwoofer has no problem filling an 18x 23 foot room with good bass. The dialogue on tv and movies is clear. Initially I did not like the remote control on the bass speaker but tracked down the problem to a weak battery that was supplied with the unit. The speaker system is very forgiving in terms of placement. I have the speakers set on either side of a 50 inch TV with the center speaker below on a shelf and the bass speaker on a side wall. I am very much enjoying these speakers. Electronics really does make a difference in sound so I would highly recommend not skimping in this area and also check the settings if you use the audyssey system to set up the speakers. The finish is very attractive as well

Pros: well made good sounding

Cons: none

Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is sound quality in the ear of the listener. Not everyone prefers to hear sound from speakers the same way. Here are my thoughts on the Polk Audio Rti A3: 1) This is a bookshelf speaker. There's no getting around it. If you're expecting a full sound from top to bottom in a mid to large room, you're going to feel like something is missing. But if you evaluate them for what they are - a bookshelf speaker - they're pretty great, especially at this price point. They sound bigger than other bookshelf speakers because they are bigger. Polk did all they reasonably could to get the most range out of them. 2) Sound. I was listening to some violin music on them and noticed some pretty bad distortion at the high end I hadn't noticed before. Of course, I'd previously only listened to that music through my iphone speaker. So I listened again this time using the home theater speakers the Polk's are replacing and heard the distortion there too, just not as much. That's when I realized the distortion is not a problem with the speakers, rather it's in the source material. The Polk's just replicated it more clearly. If you like clarity in the treble, these are great. Just get good source material! 3) Imaging. When listening to my old HT speakers, I felt like I was in the back of the amphitheater looking for binoculars. With the Polk's, the band was right in front of me. 4) Design. These are beautiful

Pros: Great value Clear sound Not fatiguing Nice to look at - my wife originally wanted in-ceiling speakers, but when she saw these, wanted to display them on our bookshelf!

Cons: Depending on your application, you'll probably want a sub. If it's a small room for occasional listening or background music they're great on their own. But if you want the full orchestral experience, want to bass drum to resonate in your chest, or want to feel like you were in that explosion, you'll want a sub. I got the dsw 440 sub and plan on using it to give the mains the bottom end I want, plus a dual 10" sub (psw1000) for LFE. Sound is balanced, clear, and full with this setup.

These speakers sound as good as they look. I originally had wanted floor standing speakers but wasn't prepared to spend the extra cash. So I searched and read reviews and specs and came up with these. I bought them without hearing them which can be risky but I put my trust in Polks solid reputation and they did not disappoint. They are producing a nice deep low end which was more than expected and they are solid when you are pushing some power through them. So the bottom line is great sound at a reasonable price.

Pros: Nice sound -easy wall mounting-good looks

Cons: None

Great looking, and sounding speakers. We have a cavernous living room (tall victorian ceilings) that these speakers fill with a beautiful, rich sound. From low end to high, great speakers.

You will love these speakers depending on your point of reference. I was going from Bose am15 surround sound to adding these on the B channel to improve the sound of music. The bose are Great for their size but cannot produce the full spectrum like a larger speaker can. I read so many reviews on bookshelf speakers of this size and price some love the speakers and some thought they werent good enough. I was a little worried since i know i could do better with a b&w or martin logan speaker. However, i could not pass up the chance to get a free $300 polk sub with my order so that swayed me to these. As somewhat of an audiophile, i was nervous that these wouldnt be enough, but they sound awesome and clean. In certain parts of my apartment living room the bass from these literally sounds like a small sub its so good. I love loud and crisp treble and these SMOKE the bose in that area. If youve never owned speakers this nice then i seriously doubt you will be disappointed. If however you are an audiophile and already own equipment this pricey then maybe you want something even better, im not sure. All i know is that there is a huge difference in sound for every $100 extra you spend on speakers. From what i have heard from the ones even better than these, you have serious diminishing returns the more you spend over this amount. You want a big improvement over these? You better spend double in my opinion.

Pros: Great price and sound Polk name brand confidence

Cons: Definitely a little big for a bookshelf speaker so make sure you have room

Excelent speakers: I purchased the RTA3 speakers 2 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised when I connected them to the Harmon Karddon HK 3770 receiver and a Polk Audio PSW 400 sub. The sound is amazing. Big sound for bookshelf speakers.

Pros: Very clear sound for bookshelf speakers. You get more bang for the buck with these speakers. They sound just as good as some floor standing speakers.

Cons: None.

I bought a pair of these speakers about two months ago and I am very happy with this purchase. One thing that is great about these is the wall mount. It makes it so easy to hang them on the wall, and you do not even need stands, since you can mount them at any height or distance apart. My pair is not broke in yet, but even out of the box, they sound excellent. In fact, they sound very much like alot of other Polk Audio speakers, which is saying alot, I use to have RTi10's and even tho they are tower speakers, The RTia3's , sound much like them, except for the deep bass that the RTi10's had. I am using a 12" subwoofer to add bass to mine. These speakers are very deep, about as deep as they are tall, and they are one of the most attractive bookshelf speakers that I've seen. Anyone needing bookshelf speakers, should certainly give the RTia3's a try. I doubt they can be topped at their price. You will not be disapointed.

Pros: great sound, and very solidly constructed, and very attractive.

Cons: none,

These things sound amazing! Bought them sight unseen/unheard, but felt comfortable given the price and how much I liked the Polk large bookshelves I've had for 15 years or so. These things don't disappoint. They're smaller than my old ones, but are still plenty big for bookshelf speakers and kick out a big sound. There's enough bass for me to not feel the need for a separate sub, which was probably my biggest concern at the outset. I'm no audiophile, so these babies seem like a great bang for the buck. Briefly considered dropping two (or three) times the coin on Martin Logans, etc., but that seemed a waste, especially for a bookshelf speaker. 5 star rating is based on the fact that you understand these are bookshelf speakers and shouldn't be compared to towers. For what they are, and given the price, these exceeded expectations.

Pros: Crisp, clean sound. Sleek, cherry finish looks as good as they sound.

Cons: Not super deep bass as one would expect.
