Audiophile-quality sound from a great-looking tower

Polk Audio RTi A9 Tower Speaker

Enjoy exceptional performance with Polk's RTi A9 tower speakers (shown in black)

Our customers love the A9 — the flagship floor-standing speaker in Polk's popular RTi series. It combines a handsome, real wood veneer finish with the kind of performance that pleases even critical listeners.

This speaker's carefully designed drivers undergo laser testing to help identify and eliminate resonance points, ensuring smooth, accurate response. Its asymmetric cabinet helps it deliver rich, clear sound by combating vibration and increasing rigidity.

The A9 also includes Polk's exclusive PowerPort® technology that reduces noisy air turbulence and increases low-frequency output. You'll enjoy clear highs, rich bass, and open, natural-sounding midrange.

Additional high-end features

Two sets of gold-plated five-way binding posts let you biamp or biwire the RTi A9 for the best possible sound. An anti-diffraction grille helps it deliver a large, three-dimensional soundstage with pinpoint-accurate stereo imaging. Adjustable spikes provide stability on both carpeted and hardwood floors.

Complete your surround system

For best performance, pair the RTi A9 towers with our recommended center channel speaker: Polk CSi A6  and surround speakers: Polk RTi A3 or FXi A6.

Crutchfield and the Polk Audio RTi A9s

First, I want to Thank Lane for his help and support. His willingness to research the product and help with the price match was instrumental in this purchase. As a first time buyer from Crutchfield, I am very impressed with the entire experience. Rare these days. Thank You!! Second, thus far the Polk RTi A9s have exceeded our expectations. Waiting for them to really get broke in.

Pros: First time Crutchfield customer. Wonderful experience. Hope to shop more in the future.

Cons: None at this time.

Pretty to look at, but definitely a pain to listen to. Not an accurate speaker, generic sound is this speakers best attribute. If Polk would put 1/2 the effort that was put into the cabinet into the actual drivers themselves, then they would have a great product. The shipping carton was a joke at best, and they took 10 days to get to me. $75 for return freight, you can bet I will NEVER opt this way agan! Bad on you Polk, bad on you

Pros: Nice cabinet, nice veneer finish

Cons: Cheap drivers and crossover. Cheap plastic trim rings for the woofers, cheap, plastic outrigger feet, cumbersome grille, and BAD SOUND

I'm only feeding these speakers 75 watts each and they still sound great in my small space. I do plan on upgrading to a larger amp when I get a bigger place. I'd like to give them 300 or 400 watts each.

Pros: Looks great sounds great and doesn't require a ton of power if you dont have it but if you do they can handle anything from 50 to 500 watts

Cons: Heavy

The third pair of these I own. They sound best with a sub, to get the deep bass. On the other hand, the mid and high detail is un matched at its price range or even twice its price. I have it matched with Klipsch RF-7III and 15" sub. 200 watts like nothing....Did I mention the price

Pros: Size, clarity and beautiful

Cons: Low bass responce

Did my research, these speakers were consistantly rated in the top five or six. Half the price of other competitors. Superb sound and clarity! Can take all the watts per channel you can throw at them. One hundred percent satisfied!

Pros: Great clarity, crisp and clear though all ranges.

Cons: HEAVY! Have a friend ready to help the install. 80+ Lbs each and awkward to carry due to size.Really not a negative,

These Polk Audio RTi A9 speakers have fantastic sound and are the best speakers I have ever owned. I primarily listen to classical music nowadays, and I am extremely pleased with the frequency response and dynamic range of these speakers. Even during the quietest passages at low volume the definition and "presence" of the music makes you feel you are hearing a live performance in a concert hall. Highly recommended! I couldn't be more pleased with Crutchfield. You have just earned a new lifelong customer. Kudos, and thank you!

I listen to my stereo every day, throughout the day, evening, and into the night. I often leave a playlist on throughout the night as I sleep. A stereo pair of these can absorb mad power and play higher volumes effortlessly or play gently. Even at low volumes they sound so rich. I really ask myself why I didn't treat myself to these a year ago, or the first time I saw them on such a sale. Although I play 90% music I do follow some home theatre groups who use these. They each recommended I get another power amplifier to give each of these 200w-500w RMS, or at least have it on tap. So I'll be getting another Crown amp to power them. In the meantime my Onkyo TX-NR727 is doing a great job. I'll add that to many people the volume provided by an Onkyo AVR will be plenty. I'm using these in a 5.1 system with bass provided by 2 15" Type S on a bridged Crown XLS2000 rated at 2100w RMS@4 ohm. The Crown is connected to the Sub/LFE Out of the Onkyo AVR.

Pros: Gorgeous! Sounds so rich on their own. Immediately makes life better. Biampable if you're stuck using a low powered receiver for a time. The tweeter is at perfect listening height while seated. Vocals sound so pure and accurate. The sale price makes this an awesome value.

Cons: I can't think of anything encountered that is the fault of the speaker, manufacturer, or Crutchfield. They are well protected in large boxes so they won't be dropped off by the mailman lol. UPS freight shipping was very polite and made sure I'd be home. They are heavy at 75lbs each so be careful when screwing the carpet spikes into the feet.

Best Polk speakers I've had

Ralph from Como, CO on 4/7/2019

I've used Polk speakers since 1993 and those still work. Then I went to 60s,70s monitors then 500s,now to Rti series 3s,7s and finnaly got my hands on these 9s. What a big difference these are tall so look like real towers. I moved my 7s to the back with 3s on sides. These can take way more power than any of the others. It only took a week to brake them in. They have highs, mids and bass all in one speaker. They can take up words of 500 watts so I need to get a more powerful external amp to make them sing. By far the best speakers I've ever owned. Highly highly recamend.

Pros: Highth,sound,full range,price

These monsters are awesome sounding, when paired with the right amplifier. I originally intended to use a Marantz SR5013 to power these in a 5.1 setup, but they sounded kind of lifeless, which surprised me. Went to the Polk forums and the consensus there is that these speakers need at least 200watts each to come to life. So I added a Parasound 2250 v2 (250wpc@8ohms) and, wow, what a difference! Beautiful sound, with a huge soundstage.

Pros: Sound fantastic when you give them the power that they need

Cons: Bigger than I thought they would be when I ordered (I had only seen the A7's in person).

After reading a lot of great reviews, I bought a pair of Polk Audio RTi A9 speakers from Crutchfield. The speakers are crystal clear for music and work great as front speakers for my surround system for movies. I am replacing an older set of Polk satellite surround speakers (RM 6600) which served their purpose, but the A9's are in a different league. I enjoy a wide range of music, from rock and folk to country, and the A9's make all of these genres of music sound great. Crutchfield delivered the speakers on time and in perfect condition. The only complaint I have about the speakers is that I wore blisters on both thumbs trying to loosen the plastic binding post knobs, I finally had to use a small adjustable wrench to loosen the plastic knobs. Note to Polk Audio: there is no need for binding post knobs to be screwed on that tight. Final thought - buy these speakers while they are on sale and you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Great for music and movies.

Cons: As mentioned, the speaker binding post plastic knobs should not cause pain trying to loosen them.

Holy crap, these are awesome. Many 'audiophiles' and hi-end shops tried to talk me out of buying Polks. "they're owned by a big company now" or "they're mass produced" is what they'd say. About 1 year ago when renovating our living room i was talked into super high end speakers/center/sub that ran many thousands of dollars. I was fairly disappointed by the whole setup. things sound good, but not vibrant. TV/Movies are great, but music which is 99% more important to me is not. I have owned Polk RTi A7's for a decade and love them in my Man Room. Very punchy, little coloration, good bass and both Motorhead and Tom Petty sound great through them. I have always loved the classy Cherry veneer as well. Just purchased RTi A9's and I'm blown away. Truly. It's no joke that you can get away with out a sub as my kids proved while streaming bass-heavy EDM and Rap. Everything from Prog to Thrash Metal to Pete Seeger sounds clean and the sound spectrum is beautifully distributed to my ears. Using a Thorens turntable, NAD cd player, top of the line new Onkyo receiver to power them. Cosmetically, i bought these in black as it matched the den better and was sad not to get the Cherry at first. No worries though, the Black wood veneer is awesome looking and still very classy and furniture-like. If you have room for these towers, don't hesitate - i don't see how someone could be disappointed

Pros: Just about every aspect of these great speakers.

Cons: Have not found any at all.

I am using these speakers for listening to music in stereo and they are connected to a 2X 100 watts Yamaha R-S202 stereo receiver/amplifier. R-S202 is powerful enough to run these speakers. Overall, I am very satisfied with them, having compared them in the same room and with the same source to Fluance SIGNATURE SERIES HI-FI THREE-WAY FLOOR STANDING SPEAKERS and Adams A7Xs. The mid range especially is smooth, balanced and natural. The highs are clear and well defined and easy to listen to for an extended time. Great stereo separation. The low frequencies, although powerful, could be a littler tighter. However, I am still breaking in these speakers and it is not a big concern for me. In this set up, they deliver outstanding audio quality from a Yamaha Tyros given their great mid range capability. If you are looking for a set of speakers to connect to your synth or arranger these may be a good choice. The finish of the cherry speakers are high furniture grade.

Pros: Outstanding mid range.

Cons: Large and heavy.

These rock, even at low wattage

Bob from Greensboro, NC on 2/28/2019

I hesitated before buying these after reading reviews from people claiming they need 100 watts or 200 watts to drive them. I have a NAD 7100 receiver, rated at 50 watts per channel and it drives the heck out of them. Yes, NAD is rated conservatively, but when I can't turn the volume up past 3 without blowing the roof off of my town home, I have plenty of power. I replaced a couple of old Kef 304.II speakers and these make the Kefs sound like cardboard boxes.

Pros: Great looking, very clean sound, great imaging.

Cons: 75 lbs. each and they tape the styrofoam packing in the carton so if you are unpacking them by yourself like I was, get ready for an adventure.

Very, very happy

These speakers are truly magnificent. Without getting into db's, the A9's have a remarkable presence, and that was exactly what I wanted. They control the room. Before purchasing them, I used the Crutchfield speaker comparison system to compare the Klipsch comparable and the Polks (using the Sennheiser default on an iMac, as I do not have headphones). On the comparison system, the Polks had a much better presence. In "person," they are even better than the comparison audio suggests. They have a deep bass, a very clear treble, and a strong mid-range response to a Marantz SR7012 driving them. When the Marantz is set to "Pure Audio," the treble is perfect. I am very happy with these 75 pound monsters, even though they are just breaking-in, as of February 26, 2019 (they also break my back when I move them). A word of caution: I will never know if I should have gone for the A7's (they take less power to deliver their best). One of these days when the speakers have seasoned, I will be turning up the volume, letting the SR7012 do its magic. I look forward to that... Last word: talk to Crutchfield's Brady about amps and speakers. He knows.

I purchased these speakers to replace my Polk monitor 10s. These speakers are amazing in their detail and imaging. They have a sound stage that is large and precise. These speakers are capable of producing bass that is earthquake like and pressurizes the room. I am using these speakers for 2 channel music only and they are stunning, quite simply you will love these speakers at this price point. I have had just about all manufacturers speakers at a wide price range, AR, B&W, Bose, Other Polk models, KEF, Klipsch Heresy, and at their delivered price they beet them all. I have a fantastic pair of KEF LS 50 in my bedroom that cost a little more than these A9s and the sound they produce is not even close to the A9s.

Pros: Great sound, enormous soundstage, great bass, detailed mids and highs, very affordable price.

Cons: Enormous size and weight.

I was looking for a full range floor speaker for my new listening room and when I saw the great deal that Crutchfield had on these Polk ATi A9's, I couldn't pass it up. They are big and impressively built. I ordered the cherry finish and they look great in their new home. However, it's their sound that is truly impressive. They create a transparent, detailed, and full sound stage. I use these speaker for stereo listening and they really deliver. In my opinion, no sub is needed because these Polk's can get down deep. I've been an audio fan for forty years and I know that these speakers deliver. When you factor the great price these speakers are being offered at, plus their wonderful sound, I'm not sure it can be beat. Do yourself a favor and get a pair of the RTi A9's, you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Wonderful sound stage, detailed and transparent. Beautifully finished and built like a tank. A truly outstanding value.

Cons: Grills look good, but could be a little sturdier. They shouldn't sway you from buying these speakers.

I am not an audiophile and this is my first set of tower speakers. My coworker recommended these to me and at initially I was hesitant given the price tag, but midlife crisis pushed me over. Initially the speakers sounded good being paired with RZ820, which I bought because of the 2 Ch 130W rating and I wanted a home theater system capabilities with the option to add amplifier with the pre-outs. Initially I had happy with the speakers. The speakers did sound a bit too pitchy for the highs and the bass seemed a bit weak/soft. With that said, all of my playlists (80s/90s R&B and Pop) sounded better than any system I have had ever. I looked for tracks recommended by experts to test speakers and was satisfied to see it can handle. I felt the money I spent on the speakers are justified. I average and hour a day of usage and my enjoyment levels increased over time. Frankly, I don't know if this effect is what others here have said as getting acclimated to the speakers or is simply break in time. 3 months after my purchase, I am thoroughly loving my speakers! Everything on my playlist sounds amazing. Sounds are full, lively, clear highs and lows, and I am smiling ear to ear when I crank it up my music. Even my son who listens to hiphop says when he closes his eyes, it's like the singer is right there! I added a Klipsch sub & old Klipsch promedia 5.1 sats for home theater. Even my wife is impressed and enjoys watching movies @ home! Best personal audio purchase thus fa

Pros: Brings music and movies to another level!

I kind of don't want to do a review on the speakers I ordered these December 17th they were shipped out on the 18th by Crutchfield they arrived and Salt Lake City Utah from Richmond Virginia in 3 days that was awesome arrived on a Saturday on December 21st at the UPS facility in Salt Lake City I have been waiting over 7 days for them to arrive and I still have not gotten them delivered called up twice and each time they say they are being delivered had my daughter, my son and myself stay here waiting for the delivery of the speakers. They still have not arrived so based on who Crutchfield picked to deliver these speakers (UPS doing a bad job) I'm giving this a one-star rating. I have tried out the speakers locally and I love the sound they produce so I know I'm buying a good product if they ever show up. I have owned Polk Audio Monitor speakers for 40 years and can'take wait to have the RTI9.

Pros: I know I am getting a great speaker.

Qualified 5 stars - Will update later

Brian from Eagan, MN on 12/29/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I'm giving these speakers a qualified 5 for now. First of all the construction appears to be top notch and I love the look of these speakers, not only the cherry wood grain, but the woofers look so cool. The sound is very good, but there is distortion above about half volume, which admittedly is pretty loud. I have seen many reviews stating that you need a strong amp for these. The receiver I'm using right now it a Technics SA-GX790 which is pretty stout compared to many receivers in its price range ($400 in about 1996). This receiver is 20 years old. Two channels driven, the receiver puts out 120 watts per channel at pretty low distortion. I asked Crutchfield what amp they recommend and was told that they recommend an Anthem STR Amp that costs 6K and put out 400 watts RMS. I'm sure it is a quality item and would work very well but I'm not shelling out that much for an amp. I've now ordered an Emotiva XPA-DR2 Differential Reference Amp ($1600) which provides 550 watts RMS per channel. I'm also getting an Emotiva Pre-Amp. I've very curious to see how the RTi A9s sound with these speakers and will update my review later. i'm not an audiophile enthusiast. I want some good sound but this isn't my life so I don't know all the terminology well. I did read many reviews where people mentioned the speakers are very bright which I took to mean that the treble is very loud and uncomfortable. I did experience this as well but only for the first couple ho

Pros: Quality Construction. Beautiful Speakers

I give these 5 stars and I don't even own them. They look like my older TSi 500's on steroids, really... three 7" woofers...ok. I have 4 500's(among other things), connected to a Sony STRZA5000ES receiver and for what you pay for them, they pound. I could imagine 4 A9's connected to that Sony. I just bought some A3's to finish up a 5.2 set up in my other room.

Pros: For the most part Polk Audio may not make "audiophile" type stuff, however for what you pay for most of it, you could do a lot worse. Plus it lasts a long time, I got speakers 10+ years old and they still sound fine, just don't over drive them.

Cons: The big towers are fairly imposing, but that's not really a bad thing.

I don't have $10k for Martin Logans, but Polk always satisfies, and the RTi-A9's don't disappoint. I use them strictly for 2 channel music with a Yamaha A-S801 (100W per ch). I could get into a pompous review with a bunch of words like "warm" and "shiny", but.....they just sound like the performer is in the room with you. An absolute pleasure, and you can't do better for a pair of living room music speakers for under $1000.

Pros: Uh, they sound frickin' fantastic.

Cons: Big and heavy, but that's kinda awesome, also.

I have had these speakers for about 8 months now - powered by a Denon AVR X3400H - the sound is very good - but not quite the performance I was expecting. Caveat, I believe it is because I am not all that savvy with how to correctly set the Denon to the capable performance from these speakers. The price was ridiculous when I bought these - end of life less than 1/2 price... so the value for the investment is definitely worthy!!!

I read the reviews and I was led to believe these speakers are power hungry. Not true at all. My Yamaha A-S501 Integrated amp is rated at 85 watts into 8 Ohms. I have been breaking in my Polk RTi A9's for over 8 hours and my amp isn't even warm. I bought the amp because it can bypass the tone controls and I have found Yamaha amps have a nice natural sound. I want to hear the recording as if I am there in the studio. These speakers put you there. If you feel the need to use an equalizer or turn up the tone controls then you probably shouldn't buy speakers this nice. These speakers are crystal clear. I am hearing details I never heard before on recordings I've played a dozen times before. I have multiple sets of Infinity and Klipsch speakers set up in my house. The difference is stunning. My wife who couldn't understand why I wanted new speakers walked in the room she was amazed. She said it was like wiping away a dirty window. She was expecting not to hear any difference between the Polks and the other speakers. I read that these Polks were overly bright in the high end. Again I say that's not true. I believe that has more to do with digital recording than these speakers. The Polk RTi A9's will put the artist right in your living room. You don't need a huge amount of power. That is more a question of quality vs quantity. These aren't even broken in yet and I am more than satisfied. I am blown away.

Pros: Stunning clarity, realistic tight bass, beautiful cherry finish

I had been listening to music on a Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 HT system. I set the Polks 10' apart slightly toed in and connected to my Denon X4400H AVR bi-amping the Polks and set to 2-channel stereo at 80hz crossover. I had read several reviews/blogs regarding the 'need' to have a separate amp to drive the Polks, particularly the bass. Wrong. My listening room is 18' wide by 25' deep and at -13db the Polks fill the room with rich, tight bass and brilliant highs bordering on ear-piercing. I'm no audiophile but in my opinion, dollar for dollar, the Polk RTi A9 speakers are a great buy. I purchased the cherry cabinets which have a beautiful furniture-grade finish.

Pros: Look and sound great. Rich, tight bass with incredible clarity in the high octaves. Hearing instrumentation on some cd's have never heard before.

Cons: High octaves are on the bright side.

These speakers are hooked up to my Pioneer M90 amp and Luxman CX-100 preamp in a large listening space. 6 inches from rear glass windows with drapes, about 12 feet apart and toed in about 15 degrees. The sound they are producing is fantastic - I use two analog tape sources as well as a tube output CD player. This setup really shines with house, deep house, EDM. But does a great job with classical as well. The low frequency extension is profound when powered by (IMO) a high-current amplifier. The M90 does 46 amps and 200 wpc and really works well with the RTI 9's! I am thoroughly enjoying these speakers and they represent very high performance for the price point.

My A9s are cherry veneer and finished as good as my living room furniture...beautiful and flawless. The sound will amaze you after a break-in period of about 60 hours...it is interesting to hear the sound improving with each listening experience. Crystal clear high and mid-range presence will amaze and is better than any speaker I have auditioned in my home. The sound stage is broad and precise....close your eyes and one forgets the music is not live, the orchestra, the rock group or single voices are live and in front of your visualizations of the sound stage. Very precise sound imaging. I hear musical nuances on my CDs that was not heard until the A9s. I have spent most of this year searching for and buying my amplifier base, then several months auditioning speakers thanks to Crutchfield's generous 60 day trial period. I am bi-amping the A9s, the upper frequency and mid-range drivers powered by a heavily modified Carver M500t, "Gold Edition" 350 WPC. The three low frequency drivers powered by a McIntosh MC 2300 also 350 WPC. Both amplifiers have been extensively up-graded by Classic Home Audio to deliver high clean power and low distortions .08%.. Speaker pairs previously auditioned up to six weeks are; Polk LSiM705, ELAC-AF61, DynAudio and last POLK RTiA9. ...The A9s surpass all the previous and at $900.00 .... the ELACs were $5,000.00. Buy the POLK's you will not be disappointed. Better quality amps are highly recommended to fully realize the A9s pote

Pros: AWESOME CLEAR PRECISE SOUND STAGE AND SOLID BASS....YOU WILL NOT NEED A SUB-WOOFER.....YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED in this speaker THE CABINET IS LIKE ANOTHER PIECE OF HIGH END FURNITURE

Cons: THE CARPET SPIKES ARE A BIT TROUBLESOME....I REALLY LIKE THE SYSTEM ON THE POLK LSi M705 speaker

I used to own a pair of Rti 10's that I purchased from Crutchfield about ten years ago. I believe that They are similar to the Rti a7's that are produced now. I am writing this because I am thinking about buying a pair of the A9's. I powered the Rti 10's with an H/K 70 watt receiver back then and they were terrific. Buy the way, that was a 45 lb receiver, which you cannot find any more. Anyway, I was seriously thinking about buying these because of their high power handling capabilities, and that the next step down sounded so very good. I now use separate amplifiers and pre pro. When they are back in stock, I will buy. I love Polk Audio speakers.

Pros: Beautiful, handles lots of power

Cons: Huge, and heavy

Impressive sound from these speakers. They need a little EQ to tame the high frequencies, but its nothing modern equipment can't handle. Ordered a scratch-and-dent unit, and it arrived quickly in good condition. There was some slight discoloration on one of the mid-frequency 5.25" woofers, but nothing that alters their sound quality. Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase. These are some of the best bang-for buck speakers I've gotten my hands on.

Pros: Big Sound Solid construction - good cabinets with ample bracing Cherry finish is beautiful & furniture grade

Cons: Heavy - Get a buddy or a dolly if you have to move these things High frequencies can get a little harsh without EQ

So far, a solid set of floor mounted speakers at a great price. They are still being broken in, but so far the high and mid range are solid and, as others commented, benefits from a subwoofer to fill out in the low end. These are huge and heavy speakers that are freight delivered on a pallet; be prepared for around 200lbs of speakers to unpack and move around.

Pros: Solid highs, great looking.

Cons: Needs a sub to round it out for big roooms.

This speaker sounds good. It looks great and feels very substantial and well made. In my system and my room, it sounded very bright. The bass is somewhat lacking, therefore, I gave it a 3 star rating. My amp is powerful (Parasound A21) so it is getting enough "juice" but other less expensive speakers sound better to me on this system ( for example Q Acoustics 3050). So I suppose depending on your taste, its either excellent sounding (bright IMO) or perhaps just average. For my taste, I need a more powerful low end sound, especially from such a large speaker.

Pros: Build quality is great for this price. The finish and general feel of the product is really good.

Cons: In spite of its substantial size, I feel that the lower frequencies are not that loud. I expected a better sound on the low end.

Having just moved to a new home it was clear that the main living room was not to be used for the TV. Instead, it is going to be used for music, reading and socializing with friends and guests. With a cathedral ceiling and a large stone fireplace, this room had the scale to have some large speakers. Apart from the challenge of moving these beauties around, the final result was greater than I expected. The sound has a warmth and depth that just fills the room with sound without feeling loud. I am now hearing extra details from my music collection, instruments that were previously muffled now are front and center and playing their part. What's more they haven't even been broken in yet, so the best is yet to come.

Pros: Great depth of sound without being loud. Some speakers feel like they are shouting at you, these beauties just fill the room effortlessly.

Cons: The weight, at 80lbs they are not something you want to be moving around too much.

I received these speakers from Crutchfield back in May of 2016. Originally I had them plugged into a Marantz PM-8005 integrated amp. I thought they sounded great. The amp is only rated at 70 watts per channel and I felt that was plenty of power. Bass, treble and mids were all great. I do have a Polk DSW Pro 660 sub woofer as well. Recently I upgraded the Amp to a Marantz PM14S1 rated at 90 watts per channel. These things sound superb. I can get more than enough sound out of these with that amount of power. With a good amp you do not need serious amounts of wattage. These are in my lower level bar. The room is about 35' x 35' with a 9' ceiling. Now today, just for fun, I have them plugged into a vintage 1960's Dynaco ST-70 tube amp with only 35 watts per channel. As I'm typing this I'm listening to Steely Dan Goucho on vinyl using a Rega PL3 Plannar 3 turntable with a Rega Exact 2 MM phono cartridge. These speakers just sing! Oh yeah, and sice I'm using the Marantz as the pre amp I have had to disconnect the sub. I'm getting plenty of deep bass and the mids and highs are superb.

Pros: Great Sound Even better price Beautiful to look at

Bought these as the front L and R for my home theater and stereo speakers for listening to music. Powered by a mid-level Denon amp and configured 5.1. They sit on the long wall of a room that is wider than it is deep (35 by 15 feet), with wall to wall carpeting and 9 foot ceilings. Overall - very pleased with them and would recommend them highly if you have a large room and sufficient power. As others have noted, they are large and heavy. Initial setup is difficult because of this, and I've had to move them from a house to an apartment and that was a huge nuisance. But they are the first speakers I've ever owned that completely disappear, in other words, when the music is playing at moderate volume, you honestly cannot tell where the sound is originating. That's how good the imaging is. You truly do hear things you've never heard before in familiar recordings. If you think you will be moving after buying these, SAVE THE BOXES and the packing material (styrofoam). Get a friend to help you stuff them back into the box. They are each 80 pounds and roughly the size of a Great Dane.

Pros: Tremendous sound imaging, separation, range.

Cons: Large size requires assistance for initial setup or moving.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These are big, and I was worried they were too big for my room, which is around 13 by 17 - out of the box, they were a bit harsh and muddy. But it looks like they just needed some breaking in. I think I have about 12 hours into them, and the sound is getting really, really good. Separation of the instruments is more than I have heard before, and the sound is full and very satisfying. And amazingly, when I am using about 70% of the AVR's power, the speakers project the sound into my kitchen and it is like having nice sounding speakers in the kitchen. Granted, the kitchen is fully open from the front of the house to the back, but the family room is around the corner from the kitchen. The speakers are big and heavy, but the biggest challenge for me was getting them out of the boxes, They were wedged in so tight I had to fight to get them out without taking the box apart. I moved them into the house and set them up solo. I am very pleased and expect them to improve a bit more based on what I have read about speaker break in. But even if they do not, I am very happy. Initially the highs were pretty harsh, but they have smoothed out really well. I am using a Denon AVR-X6300H, which is rated at 140 watts per channel.

Pros: Sound great, good separation, look nice

Cons: Hard to get out of the box :-)

For the price these are an incredible deal. I upgraded from the Rtia 5's where after a break in period turned out to be excellent. What I didn't live about the 5's was that at times I could hear the lack of low frequency response making them sound thin at times. The 9's do not have this issue, they go deep and never seem to get boomy. The fact that they are very tall makes voices seem to be floating up high and centered. I am only driving these with a Sony 100watt A/V receiver and they have no problem. So I sm not sure why some reviewers say they need lots of power. I do however have them slightly EQ'd. My receiver actually has a midrange adjustment, so 2.2k down -2db gives almost perfect results. I do agree with a lot of the reviews stating the lower treble is a little bright. EQ completely fixes that. Bottom line is wonderful speaker with just a slight tweak gives incredible results.

Pros: Incredible imaging and tight bass.

Cons: Very large and heavy

Pros: Exceptional value. Versatile across a broad range of music genres. Standard and bi-wiring/bi-amp options. High quality finish and superb craftsmanship.

Cons: They are quality speakers and accordingly they are hefty in weight. You need a good amp to get the full benefit of these beauties.

I purchased these speakers from Crutchfield two weeks ago. I have about 50 hours on them. I have them bi-amped at 200 watts a channel through my emotive xpa 5 gen 2. I believe these speakers shine when properly powered. My previous towers are a pair of boston acoustics vr3 towers which have a pair of seven inch woofers and a four and half inch midrange and a metal dome tweeter. The rti a9's were better right out of the box compared to the old towers. The imaging, range and soundstage are excellent as well as the overall tonal balance. Bass is more than adequate, the midrange and highs are very good as well. I have seen reviews complaining about lack of detail in the midrange and highs, but I believe that comes from these towers being underpowered. I am very happy with my purchase and thanks to Crutchfield for excellent customer service. If you are considering these towers and you have enough current to drive them I think most people will be happy with these speakers. Give them a try, chances are you will really enjoy them, I know I am! And the finish on the cherry cabinets is amazing, they look like a high quality piece of furniture. Good job Polk.

Pros: A whole lot of speaker for the money.

Cons: Heavy, but to be expected with a high quality speaker.

5 Stars. I am about 20 hours into the break-in period on these beauties. I have a 300 watt McIntosh amplifier and these speakers really handle the watts with no problem. In fact I find as I push towards 300 watts on the meters the db level is so high I start backing off on the volume. The sound starts to rattle the prints on the wall in the next story up in my house from the bass alone. I have them bi-wired with a very nice DH Labs silver sonic cable. If you buy these speakers make sure you break them in before you judge the sound. They get better with time. These speakers have very nice replication of a live performance. They sound like they should cost much much more. I am thankful I got such a great deal at Crutchfield and now have the backing of a very knowledgeable staff if needed. I would say buy these speakers if you are looking for a great bargain and awesome sound. This is truly some nice bang for the buck.

Pros: Nice bass, the mid range and higher frequencies are well done. Cabinets are wood veneer. I have the cabinets in black. Most models in this price range do not have cabinets this nice. Handle power up to 500 watts providing a speaker that can operate with less and be capable with wattage...not many much higher-priced speakers can handle this much power without spending more money...

Cons: The grill design needs a re-design. They "push in" and are difficult to remove.

Love them. Was going to get the A7's but at the sale price form Crutchfield the A9's were the same price as the MSRP of the A7's. I have only had them a few weeks so I haven't cranked them up a bunch yet but the sound is great. The finish on the Cherry cabinets is very smooth and looks awesome. I was a little apprehensive of the delivery process but Cruthfield and UPS freight were both very accommodating getting them to me. They are heavy and difficult for one person to unpack or to move them in close to your TV stand but you can do it with just one person. Open the bottom of the box and pull the box off the top of the speaker instead of lifting the speaker out of the box. I love the fact that the mids and tweeters are higher up in the cabinets. They line up with your ear level when setting on the couch watching TV. That makes the sound much brighter and more direct to your ears. TV sounds great on them as well as music. My amp (Denon AVR-X2300W) might be a bit under powered for these but I will just bi-amp. Nevertheless they sound great. The highs are not harsh and they have good bottom end. So far I have decided to not add a sub yet because the bass is good enough in these speakers. But I might add a sub later? If you can afford these I don't think you will be disappointed.

Pros: Highs are not harsh. Speaker location in cabinet lines up with ears when sitting on couch which makes them sound better. Quality construction. Cherry finish is really nice. Price point is great. Looks awesome in your living room. Good amount of bass. No subs necessary unless you want them. Sound good with music as well as TV and movies.

Cons: Heavy. Larger than I thought. Bass port on back that makes them stick out from the wall farther than planned but it not too bad, maybe about and extra 4 inches or so.

BIG speakers with BIG sound for BIG rooms! Although primarily a home theater speaker, as in my case, they work well for hi-fi stereo. As others have mentioned they really sound best with a strong amplifier with lots of headroom. I'm currently powering them with a vintage (1978) Pioneer SA-9500II high current dual mono integrated amp. I don't think the low cost surround receivers of today will be able to do these towers justice. Over inflated watts ain't gonna cut it, current matters!! Out of the box, their sound is a little forward and a little bright but as they break in, the low end is starting to catch up. The bass response is tight with great extension. The build quality and finish (cherry) is gorgeous, like beautiful furniture! The on sale price at Crutchfield I paid is and absolutely incredible value.

Pros: Clean detailed sound, price, power handling, gorgeous looks.

Cons: Craves big power, very heavy (actually a pro for sound quality.)

These speakers are very good. Mine are powered by the Onkyo TX RZ810. Room size is medium. I listened to elacs, psb; moniter audios all priced equal or above the polks. THE pols are by far the best bang for your buck. The biggest thing you can do is not play them on direct mode. Almost all speakers sound better music wise in 2 channel mode where you adjust the treble and bass to your liking trust me. they do need power but make sure you buy a power supply amp or reciever with treble and bass adj. like the onkyo you will love the sound.

Pros: great bass lively sound

The Polk Audio RTI A19 floor speakers are totally awsome. I had the A7's and they are very good but the A9's are more full sounding and will blow you out of the house when hooked to the Onkyo 810 receiver and the Polk Audio CS4 center channel. Also have them hooked to the Polk Audio RTI A1's surround speakers and watched Hacksaw Ridge the movie and it shook my living room and the cherry color really looks good. Gorgeous cabinets, a bit on the bright side

Crutchfield customer from Blountville, TN on 1/12/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I've had these RTI A9's for a couple of weeks now so I thought I would offer my opinion hoping that it may help someone considering these. First off, we got the cherry veneer and these are absolutely gorgeous! They are large of course, but what a finish! They look awesome! Sonically, to me these are very bright speakers lacking a bit in bass and midrange, especially at lower volumes, with kind of sharp highs. We're using these in a basement area 24 x 32 with coated block walls, lots of furniture, and totally covered with oriental rugs so the room is partially to blame. My goal was to build a system that could be used for both HT and 2-channel. My previous system was only 2ch with an Adcom125w/ch amp and preamp driving Infinity Kappa 6's. At first I connected the RTI A9's my wife immediately asked where the bass was. I had to adjust the Adcom tone controls to tone down the highs and boost the bass a bit, but they sounded decent. Highs were still sharp compared to my Kappas. I then received my AVR, Onkyo RZ810. Lots of options, but still bright. A lot of people suggested Parasound so I now have a 275w/ch amp driving them - still bright, but capable of delivering volume levels that can fill a large room with no issues and minimal clipping concerns. I added a Klipsch sub which also helped, but the mid's still seem lacking to me. Bottom line is, would I buy them again? I think so for what I am trying accomplish.

Pros: Fit and finish, size, detailed highs

Cons: Lacking bass, solid mids.

Probably kind of early to review these, but I've had a month or so to listen, so I figured I would before I forget. I have them bi-amped with an Onkyo RZ810 and running them full range in a 2.1 set up right now with a 10" ported sub. 1. At normal listening levels my sub rarely kicks on and I don't notice it being gone at all! These have nice mids and pretty good low extension! 2. These are my first big towers and I immediately notice with the tweeter and mids up 4 feet off the ground, they are much brighter and elevated (literally) when I listen to music. 3. I'm assuming these can handle all the power my receiver will give 'em, but I'm still breaking them in at low to moderate levels. The more power, the better with these. 4. These are much narrower than the big Klipsch towers, but probably just as deep. They have a nice slim look when viewed from the front. 5. Packaged very well, delivery was quick, I have no complaints, they sound GREAT, and I'm excited to get em broken in and crank em up!

Pros: Slim from the front view Crisp Highs Very good lows, I'm running them full range The more power the better

Cons: none!

Exactly the size I was looking for. My entertainment center was lacking when I bought a 75" 4k TV. Had a space in-between the center stand and the ends. And these speakers fit perfectly. Now it looks like it was made that way. Plus the speakers aren't bad either. I'm not seriously into the sound aspects of music like other people are. As long as it sounds good, I'm ok with it. However, my amp is from 1990. Yep, it's 27 years old!! So I think I'll probably be replacing it in the near future. I'm pretty sure that I can get the best of these speakers with a newer amp. Excellent packing. One box had a good size hole in it when it was delivered. But no damage. When I unpacked it, really thick Styrofoam and wrapped it plastic. My surround sound speakers sound like crap now. Guess I'll be replacing them too.

Pros: Really look great. If you have minimal space, these will do it.

Cons: Could use a little more midrange and high notes.

Polk RTi A9 vs Klipsch RP-280F

shahaliegh from Nashville, NC on 12/5/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought a set of RTi A9 speakers just over 2 months ago. They showed up in three days and looked beautiful out of the box. The "push on" front grill was a little of a pain but it held on nicely. I had spent a great deal of time reading reviews and understood that I would need an amplifier that would be able to drive them well so I bought a Yamaha 3070 rated at 150 amps per channel and bi-amped them. I drove them gently for about three weeks before opening them up. The mids and highs sounded very good, but I couldn't drive them loudly without clipping the amp and never really got the tight Bass I was expecting from the the7 inch drivers. Carefully read and understand articles on speaker sensitivity and amplifier requirements for speakers. If you want to drive these speakers with out clipping your AMP you will need a very large and powerful amplifier. more then the 300 I have. After almost 2 months I called Crutchfield and replaced them with a set of Klipsch-Reference-Premiere-RP-280F-Cherry. Crutchfield sent out the new speakers and took the Polks back no questions asked. Thank you Crutchfield! They showed up after six days and were also beautiful out of the box. The magnetic front covers are great and they hold in place very well. I bi-amped them and they really sound great. The horn tweeter is very crisp and can reproduce highs at painful levels. The two 8 inch speakers provide full mid and with proper adjustment crushing bass. I have a very large space. 35-25 with 10-18

Pros: They are very well made and the cabnet is rock solid

Cons: The Polk speakers need an insane amount of power! buy with the understanding that you will need a very powerful amplifier

As the surround sound system I have produces only 100 watts per channel (Sony STR-DN 1060 which I also bought from Crutchfield) I was concerned if that system could drive these awesome speakers which are rated to handle 300 watts. Well my "little" Sony did just fine. Shakes the man cave and does just fine with movies or music. Great highs and deep bass. I also have a Polk subwoofer and am not sure if it's really needed as the bass produced by these speakers is awesome.

Pros: Great highs and lows. Beautiful cherry finish.

Cons: None other than being massively heavy and they are large so you need a pretty good sized room to deal with the size and sound.

Bought these for impact bass, and they deliver. I do use a sub to fill the deep bass, but the A9's have great tight/punchy mid bass. I do find them a bit forward in the upper range, and I'm pondering how to tame that down. I'm not finding them to be particularly power hungry, 89 or 90 db/w/m is not inefficient.

Pros: Excellent transient bass response, pretty good at everything.

It was time to upgrade our 43 year old Wharfdale speakers. The New RTiA9's met our requirements and once Bi-Amped proved to have a wonderful overall tone and a clarity that meant we hear subtle sounds that had been missing for a number of years. The base output delivers a full deep range without detracting from the crisp mid-tones. We are very happy with these speakers, they not only sound great they look good too. They were shipped in the original cartons and arrived in good condition. The Polk user manual could have benefitted from more information about Bi-Amping, it was what I would call, "a minimal user guide".

Pros: Wonderful tonal range, good clarity in the mid and upper ranges. Overall balance is good and the speakers benefitted from being Bi-Amped. Nicely packed in their containers which provide good protection for shipping.

Cons: User Guide is minimal. No information about the best wiring (which posts to use for each output) for these speakers when being Bi-Amped. Needs two people to safely unpack the speakers from their cartons.

I bought these for my son who just bought a house. I already have some myself so yes these are great speakers, I have had a pair for about 10 years now and they sound amazing. Polk really knows what they are doing with these higher end speakers. For the money these are highly recommended. I also have some SVS equipment and they are truly exceptional but cost way more and sound just as good. I push these through a high end Yamaha receiver which is rated a 150 watts per channel and my son has an Onkyo 135 watts per channel so you need to pump the power to these to get the great sound they are capable of. Again they are for the money the best floor standing speakers around I should know I have bought two sets of them.

Pros: Amazing clarity even when turned up loud. No distortion noted.

Cons: None as far as I am concerned they are perfect.

Great speakers !!! Awesome sound. Highly recommend them. Crutchfield is the best !! Got the speakers 2 days after ordering them. You've got to love Crutchfield. Regarding the speakers, I called Polk Audio & they recommended a minimum of 200-250 watts (RMS @ 8ohm). These are not high efficiency speakers & not intended to be. Right now I'm driving them w/ a 100 watt receiver & it's not enough for ultra clarity. You really need an amp & pre-amp. I'll be doing that soon.

Pros: Great Sound !

I originally had POLK Monitor 70IIs, driven by a beautiful sounding SONY STRDN1040 AND with a PS110 sub being . I then purchased these and was to can't run a musicians amp to power home speakers." When I'd ask "Why NOT?" i GOT A LOT OF VAUE non-PHYSICS ORIENTED RESPONSES OR NO RESPONSE AT ALL. wELL, THE SOUND WAS WONDERFUL. sO WONDERFUL THAT i BOUGHT another crown xls1502 AMP AND RAN THE AMPS IN BRIDGE MODE TO DELIVER A STAGGERING 2,100WATTS TO THE SPEAKERS!!!!. These speakers can handle 500 watts. But the 1050watts/channel(most would say overkill) made these speakers sing like no other!!. ALL my musician friends are in awe of my setup. It's not(primarily) that I can make my townhome development shake when I crank the volume....but the separation of sound and TIGHT bass to midrange is unparalleled. I would say the POLKS lack a bit upper register "sparkle" heard in speakers that have something driving the treble other than a standardand dated, neodynium magnet with a silk tweeter. Perhaps this is why Polk changed their tweeter material on their latest speaker lineup; getting up to 40khz instead of the 26khz from the rtia9s. i I am quite pleased with the speakers AND the "YOU CAN'T use that CROWN musicians amp to power home speakers." Class D CROWN XLS1502 amp has come of age. Many high end amp makers: Acoustic Research, Mark Levinson, use CLASS D technology quite effectively. These amps are LIGHTER, RUN COOLER, ARE WHISPER SILENT FOR ME and pack a PUN

Pros: Look like a piece of furniture. Sound is fantastic IF powered sufficiently. sEVEN DRIVERS CREATES A "WALL OF SOUND, Phil Specture would be envy.

Cons: Upper treble lacks a sparkle heard in other high end speakers. These things are HEAVY

Upgraded my Polk RT2000p's. Still a great powered tower for Movies. The A9's are better in all ways. Fit and Finish, Detail, and controlled depth. The only thing to remember is this will need a dedicated amp. no receiver running 7 speakers will do well with the power they require.

Pros: Great detail and depth. Fit and finish Large -Yes this is a good thing.

Cons: Needs a dedicated amp to sound its best. 200W Min Really needs magnetic grills.

Awesome speakers!!! In my opinion they're power hungry! I have them biamped with onkyo 810 receiver. From lows to highs and everything in between they're perfect!! They also produce clean balanced bass too. Whether you want to use them for home theater or music or both they're perfect best bang for your buck! I still miss my carver audio set up though

Pros: A very versatile speaker they are efficient and sound awesome. They look amazing too

Cons: Make sure you have the power to get the most outta them

Great Value. Big Sound.

The RTi A9 speakers are a great value for a lot of quality sound. I'm very happy with them. I'm using them as front left and front right in a home theater, but also use them for music quite a bit. In my opinion, after breaking them in for a week now, I think they are incredibly well suited for home theater, gaming, and rock/rap/party music. If I had to criticize anything, the tweeter falls a little behind the bass at higher volumes, for instance in modern country music with a soprano voice, the bass gets ahead of the singer. Not noticeable at normal volumes, only when rocking the whole house. You need to bi-amp these speakers, the sound quality increases dramatically, so get a 7.1 channel receiver if you want to use these in a 5.1 system like mine. Or put more generally, make sure you have two more output channels on your receiver than you have speakers, so you can assign the extra couple channels to bi-amp these big boys. Also, these are 4 feet tall and heavy, so if you have little kids like I do, make sure you have a child-proofing plan in place.

Pros: Great Value, Big Sound.

Cons: Tweeter is good, but look at the LSi if you want the best.

All I am going to say about these is this: I am a bass head. I was convinced I would need a sub with these. The sales rep told me he doubted that I would and urged me to try them before adding a sub. He was right! They have incredible range. The lows are deep and vibrant. The highs and mid are spectacular as well. I bi-amped them and they eat up every bit of 160 watts with ease. I love them.

Pros: Great sound. Will hold their own against speakers twice the price.

Cons: The weight. These things are heavy (75 lbs).

I purchased these to upgrade from some Polk Audio RT 1000p powered towers. I was completely blown away by how beautiful the finish is on the cherry. It took some wrangling to get them set up, they are quite large. Connected them to my Marantz SR 7009 reciever and the difference in sound quality from my old towers was amazing! I started by playing some vinyl through them and the midrange came alive! The presence and soundstage these towers produced was so good, I was glued to my chair! The low end was clean and powerful with no boominess or exaggeration. They will fill a large room effortlessly and play so clean you could listen for hours with no fatigue. They do dominate floor space but it is so worth it! I have run pretty much all genre's of music through them and they sound great with Mendelssohn all the way to Metallica! Worth every penny!

Pros: Clear midrange Great soundstage and presence Powerful and clean bass Beautiful cherry finish

Cons: Large and heavy

I never thought I'd buy Polk, I always figure I'd have to go with some high-priced British or obscure audiophile brand. I've been listening to these outstanding speakers for over a month now, and am still wowed by their detail, lack of coloration, total lack of "boxiness", and evenness of frequency response. With good source material on CD or LP these speakers will sound stunning. What is most impressive is that you don't have to crank the volume to ear-busting levels to get listening satisfaction out of these speakers. And with a good-quality amp driving them you don't need 3-digit wattage to fill a room with sound. My previous-generation Marantz PM6004, conservatively rated at 45W/Channel at 8 ohms, can run you out of the house with these speakers while sounding clean and balanced. With that amp running in Direct Mode with no EQ, I find these speakers to lean just a bit more towards bass-emphasized than bright, perhaps because the bass from these speaker is incredible when the recording provides it, and partly because the Marantz tilts that direction. These big speakers produce a BIG soundstage (not talking about imaging, but rather about their "presence"). Put on some well-recorded orchestral music and you get the full symphony orchestra in your room. I'm sure I could have spent much more and not been more satisfied that I am with the RTi A9s.

Pros: Total lack of coloration, superb detail and balance, good sound at any volume. No excessive sizzle from the tweeter, no frequency overemphasized. You don't need a massive amp, just a good clean one. Absolutely beautiful in the cherry finish. Great for any music genre. Even your spouse will hear the difference, so spend the money.

Cons: Not for small rooms or apartments, they pump out a lot of volume. A bit subdued in the vocals. Very, very heavy with nothing to grab onto to move them around. Should have bought them years ago.

Bought these a little over 1 & ½ year ago so I've had plenty of time to put these through the ringer. I replaced my Bose Acoustimass 7 series speaker system with these, and I've got to say my gut hurt so much thinking of how I could have been listening to these years ago. I've heard things in music and movies I'd never heard before, I just didn't know these sounds existed. If you don't have the money to buy these right now, SAVE UP!!! They're worth waiting for.

Pros: Will fit in a thin place where normal bulky speakers wont.

Cons: Wishing I'd bought these a long time ago.

I got these speakers for 2-channel music listening. In making my selection I found online reviews, from both professionals and regular users, very useful. I especially appreciated the reviews that made it clear how the reviewer was using them, and what they were comparing them to. So here we go: I'm the kind of person who creates the perfect triangle, sits in the exact right spot, and listens to music in the dark or with eyes closed. It doesn't have to be loud, just clean and accurate. I also don't care about ground-shaking bass, just pure sound the way it was recorded. I bought these, together with a NAD C 375BEE amplifier and NAD C 546BEE CD player, to replace a 15-year old Yamaha mini shelf system that I bought at Crutchfield in their Charlottesville brick-and-mortar store. Given the complete system replacement it is difficult to isolate the contribution these speakers made, even though I did play around a bit with matching old and new components. Let me tell you, until this new system I have never heard music before! With these I don't just hear the music, I experience it. I'm transported into a spatial sound world where I can pinpoint each instrument and musician. It feels like watching (with eyes closed) a musical painting that is larger than my room. What is most interesting to me is that I don't hear the speakers, I only hear music. I can't believe I have missed out on this way of experiencing music in my own living room. Until now!

Pros: I would call these neutral speakers. I have read comments about them being harsh or lacking bass, but this is not my experience. I do think placement may have to do with this. I also like how, despite their size and weight, when seen face-on with the grille on they look deceivingly small and inauspicious. Most importantly, they sound clean and accurate across the whole frequency spectrum and dynamic range. Both quiet and loud passages sound clean, complete, and captivating.

Cons: I don't see any cons. I did a lot of research and what I got exceeded my expectations of what I had distilled from all the information I had collected. So, thanks internet!

In the process revamping man cave into retirement mode. Replaced a pair of Mirage 895is (giving to a son for his setup) and agonized between RTi A9 and RTi A7. The RTi A9 won the debate. This is a very impressive speaker with excellent mid range and high end. Bass is more than adequate and I run a Polk sub with the system. My use is about 65 % music and 35% surround sound. The surround sound speakers are Polk as well as a Polk Csi A4 center channel. Since I replaced the speakers I decided to replace the Adcom two channel amp with an Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 2. You need some power to make these speakers really show what they are capable of. A Marantz receiver serves as the pre-amp and powers the center channel and surround sound speakers.

Pros: Excellent sound without any coloration. The cherry finish on the cabinet is impeccable. While the speaker has some size (my wife thought they were too big) as you listen you concentrate more on the sound and the size doesn't matter, all you get is great sound reproduction.

Cons: These speakers are heavy and are a challenge to move.

Cabinetry and construction are superb. Exceeds expectations, but you have to pay attention to all of the reviews. I knew I would use a subwoofer, so the weak low end does not bother me. Above 60 hz, the sound is pure and undistorted, especially at higher db levels. This speaker requires lots power to develop good sound. It sounds tinny with less than 100 watts rms per channel, but suddenly comes gloriously alive as this threshold is reached. Therefore, it is great for serious listening in larger room full of furniture, but not good for soft background music or small spaces. I drove it to 400 watts - the louder, the better the sound quality. The sound character is technical, as often referred to with "reference speakers", but not harsh. The spectrum improves with power, but lacks warmth at low volume. The Polk RTiA9 powered subwoofer I purchased at the same time fixed the low end issue, but not the low volume flat sound. This is a great speaker if you want to fill a larger room with high quality pure sound reproduction. Probably not what you are looking for if you enjoy vinyl and old school gear.

Pros: Beautiful to the eye and ear, if it meets your intended purpose. Exceptional quality. Very high tech. I love this speaker and it fits my purposes. Highly recommended for audiophile with good equipment. Precise and wonderful to hear if driven properly.

Cons: Low end is weak, and a subwoofer is highly recommended. Not for weak systems, small spaces, or soft background elevator music.

Having a little prosperity coming my way, I discovered some unscratched itches; one of them was my entertainment system. I have an Onkyo home theater receiver (TX-NR807, 135 watts per channel) and had recently upgraded to a Samsung Curved TV after enduring a 30 year old box TV with green pictures. I had a Bose Acoustimass System which sounded pretty good but the sound on the center speaker was a little boxy. After weeks of shopping, I decided on the Polk RTI9 Speakers. I had visited several boutique stereo shops and listened to a number of high-end speakers. I looked at Monitor, Klipsch, Bowers & Wilkins, and several others. Of course, they all sounded good and some looked and sounded better than others. I decided on the Polks (RTi9 right & left and C6 center) which, at least in the pictures, looked pretty nice, and based on specifications delivered the same value as the boutique speakers at a significantly lower price. I then had to decide where I would buy them. Based on reviews, I finally made the move and placed the order with Crutchfield. Upon receiving the speakers, I discovered a loose screw in the center speaker. I then called customer service and received a replacement a few days later. Result: Awesome TV and Music.

Pros: Fantastic big sound. Beautiful furniture grade speakers. These speakers sound way better than the expensive built-in sound systems of my affluent friends and neighbors.

I purchased these off of someone who bought them through Crutchfield.com. I have them running off a Yamaha Aventage RX-A840 pre-amped to an Emotiva XPA-3 gen2 with 200 watts going to them. I paired them with a JL Audio e112 and they sound incredible. I pushed them a little too much when I first got them and popped a tweeter. I called Polk Audio directly (they're in California) and they shipped me a new tweeter for $60, and it was too easy to replace. First off, I have not tried them directly through the Yamaha, which is only rated at around 100 watt/channel, so I don't know what they sound like with less power, but the Emotiva definitely seems to open them up. They are a bit bright on the top end, and can sound wispy at times. They definitely need a good quality medium, as they will put all the noise from lesser quality recordings front and center. At first I had them paired with a Klipsch R-12SW which has a built in 400 watt amp. The sub hit some low notes and sounded really good, but when I pushed them to higher volumes, believe it or not, the Rti-A9's drowned out the Klipsch completely. THESE BABIES GET LOUD! I cranked One by Mettalica and the Polks were so loud I thought for sure someone in my neighborhood was going to call the cops. I sware I've never heard speakers as loud in a private home in my lifetime. I'm afraid to push them that loud now with the JL, because I know that thing will probably crack my foundation at that volume.

Pros: VERY LOUD WITH THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF POWER. BEAUTIFUL AND MESMERIZING TO LOOK AT. CRYSTAL CLEAR WITH THE RIGHT SOURCE MATERIAL. EASY TO REPLACE BLOWN DRIVERS.

Cons: HEAVY, AT 75 LBS A PIECE. THEY NEED A LOT OF ROOM TO BREATH. YOU DON'T WANT TO PUT THESE THINGS TOO CLOSE TO YOUR WALLS. TO REALLY OPEN THEM UP THEY NEED AT LEAST 2 TO 3 FEET OF SPACE AROUND THEM.

I've had these for a little over a week now. They replaced an ancient but well cared for pair of Cerwin Vegas. I purchased them along with a DSW660 12" sub. I have them running bi-wired from an Onkyo TX-NR828. The first thing that was evident was the clarity and brightness. They absolutely require a high quality source or medium. They bring every detail right to the surface. Playing flac files of albums I have long been familiar with revealed exciting new details I had never heard before. On the other hand, playing MP3s and most streaming sources makes you painfully aware of the compression and diminished quality. The subwoofer is an excellent pairing, but needs to turned way down for most music listening. For movies/theater purposes they are outstanding. Soon they will be joined by a CSI A6 and 80 F/X RT surrounds.

Pros: Amazing clarity, beautiful styling, will go louder than you could possibly need

Cons: Sometimes a bit on the bright/harsh side, but haven't had them long enough to rule out audio source as biggest factor

I have been a music fanatic my whole life and I use different speakers for different types of listening. I have my Klipsch Cornwalls on my "Main" stereo. Thats for thumping my wife and kids out of bed on Sunday morning or when I want to get the most sound out of a recording without blistering the paint on the walls. I have a set of 901s in the basement for the drunks and the kids. I had a commercial Sony Surround sound / DVD player, you know the kind with the plastic speakers and Elmers glued on speaker covers and it was mainly for the kids and it served its purpose at the time. It was finally time to put it out in a garage sale and build again. Kids in school, funds kinda weak, I browsed the bargain bin and found these Polks for a reasonable price. The ad said scratched and banged up floor model. After reading reviews on this brand and model, I liked the spec's and I rolled the dice. When they got here, they were too big for my wife to move.Together we took them out of boxes that looked like crap, we were shocked. They are beautiful and if they say thats banged up, I will eat your hat. These looked brand new, like a piece of modern art. Not B and O modern but for us they were great. Plugged em in to the main stereo for an audition and what I got was "Big Bang Boom"! They sounded great, looked great and they will proudly anchor my new surround system. Keep it up Crutchfield! So far you have a customer for life!

Pros: Sound great and I haven't even broken them in yet. Look like a piece of furniture. Too heavy for a burglar.

Cons: Don't leave them for your wife to move by herself or you will get skip for dinner.

Unbelievable sound, cabinet quality! These things are like a piece of art to look at!! Unlike me to spend this kind of money on a set of speakers, but I'm very satisfied that I did! Wish I were driving it with an amp with a little more punch (these babies can handle 500w continuous) I have them paired with a PA sub-woofer and it adds a great sound for movies as well. Separately these RTi9's are great, low-end thru high-end! I've never owned high quality speakers b4 & I would definitely recommend these! I also bought these, 1 as an open box, & the other as damaged, neither of them had any visually impairing prob. for me! The grill was messed up on the one, but I prefer them w/o the grill!

Pros: Everything about them! Probably be the last pair I ever have to buy!

Cons: Can't find anything yet... They seem to get better with time!

I replaced a pair of Cerwin Vega CLS-215's with these. I was a bit worried when I ordered the A9's, that they wouldn't produce the type of bass I'm used to with the Vega's. These speakers produce PLENTY of tight, thumping bass! I listen to just about everything except country music, and I've put these speakers through a wide variety of music, and they are just awesome all around. Crystal clear, and very detailed they are. I use them for music only, and they are powered by a 500 wpc amp. They don't seem to be anymore power hungry than the Vega's were, so I would say as long as you have decent gear I think you will be fine powering these with a receiver rated 100-125 (true) RMS, and not the crappy peak ratings some companies use. Anyhow if you are considering these for music, have no fear, buy them!

Pros: Very detailed, not bright or muddy at all. Plenty of bass when you want it. Very appealing, and in no way an eyesore.(Cherry finish)

Cons: None. Some people list heavy as a con, but to me this is a pro.

Let me first begin by letting you know my setup. I have a 2.1 setup with a Marantz 7701 Preamplifier and an Emotiva XPA-2 power amplifier. This amp is a beast and the clean power at 300 watts per channel is really opening these speakers up. I have not tried these speakers with only a receiver, but from other peoples reviews it seems that having an additional power amplifier gives you the true capabilities of these speakers. I am using a Polk audio DSW pro 440wi subwoofer. This 8" sub has plenty of power and works great in my living room. I am using good quality wires for all my connections as well. the sub cable is a Sub-X Auioquest, I am using King Cobra XLR cables to connect my Marantz 7701 preamp to the Emotiva XPA-2. And finally I got Audioquest Rocket 44 speaker wire that I am running from the Amplifier to speakers.

Pros: Good looking and clean crisp sound

Cons: None so far

Pollks are now 1 year old and sound so much better now after many tweaks. I started with nad 375 bee intergrated amp then bought another as I felt I wasn't pushing enough power to really hear them let alone feel them. Power was at 330 watts/channel, then added 2 Polk dsw 660 subs, the towers really do sound better with these subs, maybe a little overkill but I can adjust pretty easy with the subs volume and room optimizer. The speakers are a tad forward(midranges) but really excell on keyboards, voices, horns. I made a couple a changes at the speaker wire and clear day double shotguns(silver wire) with jumpers, made all the difference! The sound is super clear, no boom, sound stage very wide, this what I thought the polks would do with tweaks. If u have the time and money this was well worth the upgrade. These speakers have transformed so much, funny,I almost sent them back, but let them break in, then start tweaking interconnects and speakers wire as I think that a major part of what you may discover how those changes really do make all difference. I just recently changed to a emotiva xpr-2 amp(omg!!) Now this is getting serious, I LOVE MY POLKS!!!

I couldn't be happier with the purchase of these RTi A9's! I am hearing music in a brand new way. I can't believe the sound that comes out of these speakers! I'm hearing nuances in music I've been listening to for years out of an older pair of Bose 301's that I never knew were there thanks to these new RTi's! I love Pink Floyd, but OMG! it's like listening for the first time! I was a little nervous about spending that kind of money on 2 speakers, but I'm so glad I did it.

Pros: Bi-ampable, fidelity is incredible, beautiful black finish, tall and relatively thin so they fit easier in tight areas, MADE IN USA!

Cons: At 80lbs. each, you will need help to unbox and position them. This isn't really a "con" because I believe you would have the same trouble with any speaker in this category.....

I replaced my 15 year old Polk RTi1000s with the RTiA9s. The performance of previous Polks made with stick with them so I went for a higher line for the house we're building. Love the quality, the look, and the sound.

Pros: Beautiful, great sound

Cons: Depth

I have had these for about 2 years now. They are powerd by an Emotiva Xpa-5. I plan to purchase the xpr2 600 watts/ch. I have heard many systems and this one for the price equals them. The speakers absolutely kick a££ I do have a 1000 watt sub to add to the excitement. But really for the price of these speakers you can't go wrong.

Pros: Price looks build quality sound crutchfield carries them

Cons: None other then they are hard to move, but I think that's a small price to pay for such an awesome speaker

I got these speakers two weeks ago and still breaking them in. They are heavy build and beautiful wood finish look like fine pieces of furniture. Sound was excellent but seem to be under power even though my receiver is a Yamaha RX-A2020 delivers 140 watt per channel and I have them bi-amp connection. I listen to them in low volume level in early morning or late at nigh and they sounds clear and warm, I though the bass was week but since I only use them to listen to music I am not in a hurry for a subwoofer. I read other people threats saying these speaker needs more power to sound at their best so I am in the process of looking for appropriate speaker preamp. I probably keep these speakers for a very long time.

Pros: Sounds Great ! solid build look beautiful

Cons: Need a lot of power

I bought two of these speakers about a year ago. Buy them. They have taken all I've given them....beautifully. I also bought a subwoofer, which I have found to be necessary with these speakers. The sound quality and power handling are more than adequate for any house. I moved my A9s to my weekend home, and recently purchased the A7s for my apartment.....more than adequate.....dont forget: get a subwoofer!

These are my first home theater speakers, and they are very nice sounding. First thing I said when I opened the box was "wow" due to their size. I've heard complaints about them being to "bright" for music, although I don't have anything to compare them to they sound fine to me. I'm driving them with a Yamaha RX-A3020, once I get the surrounds installed, I will probably be upgrading to an external amp for these beasts.

Spectacular speakers. I bought these scratch and dent from Crutchfield and the damage was cosmetic and minimal. Definitely worth the savings. Sound is excellent. Nice balance from deep lows to high highs, as well as at a range of volumes. The more I listen, the more I like them. I'm using the small powered Polk sub with them, since it was free from Crutchfield, but it's really not necessary. My 110 watt receiver seems to be fine with them, but I'd be curious to try something bigger since many reviewers seem to recommend more power. However, I've never heard them distort all the way up to uncomfortable volumes. Enjoying them for both music in stereo and 5.1 movies with other Polk speakers. Very happy with this purchase, especially having never heard them before buying.

I have had these speakers almost a month now and all I can say is wow!!! I was in the middle of finishing my HT when I traded horses mid-stream. I had and still do have, klipsch rf-82's when I decided to go with the Rti a9. They both are great speakers, but, I looked at the surrounds and wanted to go in the direction of the polks over klipsch. The polks sound is alot warmer to me, and they blow away the klipschs in the looks department. Very happy with my Rti a9's. Crutchfield was very easy and nice to order from. Great service.

Pros: A great big beautiful looking and sounding speaker.

Cons: None.

Great speakers! Very firm and true sounding. You do need to have some power to get the most out of them I am running an Onkyo TX-NR1009 with an M-282, the Receiver does the Low end and the 282 does the highs. It sound very nice but I still feel that it could stand more power. The range on these is really nice, I have spent some time listening to vinyl and am very pleased with the results. I should also note that these speakers are BIG! You need to have some room to move these around.. Very pleased and will keep for a while..

Pros: Great sound, true feeling. Look impressive, great sound. Great lows and strong mids. The highs seem very natural to me

Cons: Huge, heavy and hard to move around..

A very musical speaker; could possibly be the last tower speakers you'll ever buy. The sound is very neutral and consistent from top to bottom. The bass is accurate and natural, but has the ability to take charge for more demanding audio tracks, and can go down to 20 hz quite comfortably. The Cherry Finish is beautiful and will blend well with other shades of wood. For the quality of product, the price is very reasonable. Also, they will sound very bright if under-powered. Moving them around can be awkward because of the shape and size of the cabinets, so save yourself the trouble and get someone to help you move them...use gloves. The RTi A9's are very capable speakers; however you should give just as much consideration to your other equipment. NO commercially-available receiver will do these towers justice because they have so many drivers. I originally bi-amped them with a TX-NR906 (~290 watts/channel.one of the most powerful ones out there), and while the sound was decent, it was obvious that my receiver could not fully control the entire range of the speaker in addition to the demands of the other speakers in my HT system. I highly recommend that you use quality amplifiers (such as XPA-1's) if you desire to use the RTi A9's as they were meant to be used.

These are really well made and high-quality speakers, and I like them. They seem to require significant power to maximize the bass and probably should be bi-amped. Their forte is mid-range and smooth high-end but not bass. I will have to connect my powered sub to augment the deficiency. This is pretty much par for the course for Polk. Recommended, but get a sub to be completely happy.

I got these bad boys because I like to play my music LOUD and let me tell you. My whole music collection sounds new again. I cranked up Joe Bonamassa when I hooked these up and my dear Lord !! I replaced 4 McIntosh ML-1C speakers I had since the 80's and was sad to see them go, but my expectations were more than met. They just come alive when you put the power to them. I have 2 NAD amps bridged to put out two mono sources of 300 watts and man alive, my friends sat there in utter disbelief. You aren't going to get the potential out of these if you have some wussy little receiver driving these. The crispness and spacial sound stage these things produce are stunning. If you got the space and the place, buy them now. You won't be sorry. Thanks Crutchfield, for a very pleasant experience.

Absolutely amazing!!! Cherry finish is spectacular. Speakers are huge and very impressive even without any sound coming from them. Crutchfield delivered on time and without any issues. I had these for a week now and am still breaking them in. I purchased these exclusively for 2 channel stereo, but since I have a polk surround system, I am breaking them in on that and they blend seamlessly. I couldn't resist putting a few cd's in my bluray palyer to hear some 2 channel stereo and I am absolutely blown away with the range of sound, I hear so much more off familiar cd's than I have ever before. I turned the tv on a jazz listening station (im a rock guy) an oh my goodness, they are awesome. the highs are there, the lows are there, and everything in between is there. I have been using these in surround mode with my sub turned off, so I can check the bass on these babies and its definately there, of course for movies you need a sub, but for music, I dont think I will. I haven't cranked these puppies up yet to some heavy Metallica yet, at least not loud, but I can already tell they have what it takes. Im so glad I went with Polks flagship model. Thank you Crutchfield, and thank all of you who post reviews to make this purchase much easier. I love my Polks.

I never liked watching BR movies on my Sony LCD with the dinky sound. Some great floor standing speakers were in order. After a lot of research, I decided to take the plunge on a pair of speakers that would do justice to the home theater setup. The RTi A9's do the job extremely well and the double set of wire ports in the back tells you these were built for bi-amping (http://community.crutchfield.com/blogs/av_tips/archive/2008/04/23/are-you-sitting-on-a-wealth-of-untapped-power.aspx). It's something you should take full advantage of along with a good receiver to handle all that power. All you have to do now is put in "Apocalypse Now" on BR, cue up to the "Ride of the Valkyries" helicopter scene and experience nirvana. :)

I've recently bought the Marantz SR7005 receiver to push these. I've bi-amped 125 Watts into these speakers, running a total of 500 watts. I've gotta tell you, words cannot describe the sound quality that is produced. I'm hearing stuff that I've never heard in my music. They are built very solid and aesthetically gorgeous. There is now way you can get this quality of sound out of compact speakers. These might seem pricey, but like most everything in life, you get what you pay for. I did a lot of web research on these speakers due to the price. Almost all reviews were excellent. After having mine for several weeks I totally agree. I upgraded from my Def Tech's BP-8's. The A9's are awesome speakers and fill the room with music. What I like most about these is how good they sound at low volume. I'm mostly a two channel music guy and my cd and lp collection has never sounded better. I also got a sub but these have plenty of bass. I'm using a Yamaha RS-700 100 watt receiver and the pairing is great. They are big 70lbs each and require special shipping but Crutchfield called me within 2 minutes to fill me in on details. Great service and great speakers. Sound great with rock, jazz. blues.

I replaced an older Bose system with the A9's. I took Crutchfields recommendation on these speakers, while the price was a bit daunting I really wanted better sound out of music and movies. I REALLY got it! My receiver is the Denon AVR-3808CI. Movies and especially music have really come to life out of these speakers. My cd collection has never had the workout it is getting since I installed the A9's. There is an extra dimension to everything that comes out of the speakers that was NOT there before. All of the sound is clear and crisp. Highs are high but not ice pick high. Mid's are.......beautiful and the lows are bassy but not muddy. The cabinets are a thing of beauty. They certainly added to the decor of my family room. They are pricey but worth it in my opinion. If you are in the market for a set of forever speakers and have the extra $, these may just be the ones for you. They certainly are for me.

This will be the first review of these beauties, Polks web site has 3 reviews otherwise this is it, I googled everywhere couldn't find anyone with a review. Anyway...I bought these by the picture and info here never heard them before, but I had a good idea this was a good choice, I have Polk momo car speakers in ALL 4 of my cars and bang for the buck NOTHING matches the preformance of Polk. These monsters are heavy and extremely well built, 4 feet tall, the cabinets taper slightly, towards the back. I almost needed a dolly to move these around, I couldn't get my arms around them, unbelievable mass and build quality. Stunning to look at, hard to take my eyes off of them, I have yet to put the grills on (doubt I ever will) they are beauiful and tastefully crafted and would blend into any upscale home decore they just scream power and preformance. I have the black / silver accent model. Onkyo TX-SR875 140 Watts a channel is driving these babies every octive, highs, mids, bass preforms flawlessly. Understand speakers of this caliber take a few weeks to break in same as Polks car speakers. Other than the Odessay calibration of the Onkyo I have added 2db to the base for tweaking the lows the tweaters are very brilliant and clean no adjustment needed overall performance is stunning. Your home or ears cannot handle the top end sound and power these speakers can produce. At lower volumes they still sound full, deep, brilliant and powerful. You will be hard pressed to find any speaker at this price range and build quality that comes close to these amazing speakers. These are a bargain at 749.00 ea that preform at the 2-4K price range. Don't skimp on a receiver a 1,500 set of speakers needs a 1,500 receiver These need good clean power. Would you put cheap tires on a new Corvette? The public and magazine critics have yet to catch on to these masterpieces they are so new and undiscovered. I'm loving these speakers, by far the BEST value Crutchfield has in tower speakers. Anyone who chooses these...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Driver Technology

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Polymer Composite Woofers: The speaker features three 7" polymer composite woofers. Three 7" woofers have the surface area of a single large woofer with the low mass and acceleration of small woofers, resulting in tighter, more accurate bass response. Each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Polymer Composite Midranges: The speaker has two 5-1/4" polymer composite midranges for smooth wide-range response with low distortion. For high performance durability, each midrange uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk/Polymer Tweeter: The speaker has a single 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. The tweeter features mylar bypass capacitors in the crossovers to extend high frequency response and improve detail and transparency. The tweeter also features low viscosity ferro-fluid cooling with a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.

Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to place them near your television without distorting the picture.

Enclosure Design

Damped Asymmetric Hex Laminate (DAHLI) Cabinet Design: All-MDF construction with massive asymmetric cabinet bracing ensures a resonance-free enclosure for accurate sound. The asymmetric design is made from a 6-layer laminate with 5 viscous layers to create the optimal shear damping (OSD) system. The elegant styling aside, curved cabinets not only result in a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but the curved walls also produce less audible coloration from panel resonances.

Power Port Venting System: The speaker has a rear-firing Power Port venting system built into its back plate for precise deep bass response from the floor-standing speaker's three 7" polymer composite woofers. This venting system allows air velocity to slow gradually, vastly reducing air turbulence, and delivering greater bass efficiency than conventional ports.

Note: The two 5-1/4" midrange drivers feature a sealed cabinet.

Anti-Diffraction Grilles: The floating anti-diffraction grilles minimize grille diffraction for spacious, 3-dimensional imaging.

Connections

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.

Mounting Options

Adjustable Leveling Spike Feet: The adjustable leveling spike feet that can be screwed onto the bottom of the speaker's attached base provide stability on any type of flooring. The spike feet adds approximately 0.875" to the speaker's overall height when screwed all the way in.

Specifications & Dimensions

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response is 18Hz-27kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 30-26kHz.

Width: The main body of the speaker is 8.6875" wide but the speakers attached feet extend beyond each side of the speaker, giving the speaker and overall width of 10.6875".

They truly improve my quality of life and they will yours too. They are not merely an expenditure but an investment in your life as well as anyone who hears them. The frontal array. It being the Polk Audio flagship. I deserve it! I listen to music everyday on my stereo so they will be enjoyed and appreciated. I couldn't possibly buy them if it weren't for the sale. Thank you Crutchfield. [ Paul  Apr 05, 2019 ]

wanted a set of these since they replaced the RTi12s, Now that they are discounted, it was a no brainer [ John  Dec 03, 2018 ]
A
Really enjoy my RTi A7's, but after a couple years, I decided I wanted to kick it up a notch to the top of the mountain of the RTi series for even more oomph. These A9's will be my new front L&R's and moving the A7's to the rear as surrounds... Overkill? Sure, but now my system will go to 11! The coloring is quite nice, and has a high "wife approval factor" between the color and the curvature (Vs the boxy towers from other manufacturers). [ Shaun  Nov 30, 2018 ]

I am going to purchase a new Yamaha Amp (probably the RX-2080). Was going to get the RTi A7 from Polk, but these were on sale for about the same price. Did not want to move up the $1500 speakers, so these seemed the best value. [ Michael  Aug 07, 2018 ]

I wanted tower speakers for my living room home theater that came in a wood finish, not black or lacquer, and had to be in a budget of >$1,000. Together with these criteria, I read the reviews on your site and thought these would be best, as I have owned Polk previously and have always thought them quality without bankruptcy. BTW, I have been purchasing things from Crutchfield since 1993, though not since the Great Recession of 2008. Thanks for all your help. [ Chad  Jun 12, 2018 ]

I like the well balanced, warm and natural sound of Polk speakers. The Rti A9's are rated at 500 watts each and my amplifiers are rated at 450 watts each so it was a good match. The Rti A9's re well built and absolutly beautiful in the cherry. I have them crossed over at 60 Htz and they sound amazing. Give them plenty of power and they will shine!! [ Steven  Mar 16, 2017 ]

Q
What 11.2 receiver would I need to purchase to power these?

A
There are a lot of brands and models that would work. I'm a Denon fan myself. Figure out what you need. You might not need an 11.2. Maybe a 9.2. Save a lot of money. 11.2 is the most expensive. Spend the money on quality cables and connectors. You will be glad you did.thanx!
