Great, small speakers

Crutchfield customer from Lodi, CA on 8/14/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These speakers rock. They look amazing too. I'm still debating on wether or not to leave the grills on. I use them as my front mains for my 5.1 surround sound system. They're a great improvment over my old KLH bookshelf speakers. I also recently upgraded my A/V receiver to an Onkyo TX-NR676. I can run these alone, in stereo mode and can hear how much punch they can produce out of a small speaker. Now I give them 4 stars only because I'm not sure about how or who was to blame for how they arrived. The box was really beaten up. If they were shipped this way. Or got this way during shipping. Just glad they weren't damaged.

Pros: Sound amazing for their size. They look like high end furniture.

Cons: Very heavy. May not work for everyone for wall mounting.

Solid speaker set. Larger cabinet that one might expect--so, do check the specs.

Pros: Solid build, representative lows and highs for this size of speaker. Mids are sufficient to my ears. Sound stage is find. My speakers are approximately 7 feet apart.

Cons: None that come to mind and certainly not at this price point .

Pretty good

I used these entirely for music listening. These speakers are a good intro to home audio. The sound is decent. The enclosures are very well made. The drivers and cabinets are gorgeous. They don't feel overbearing on a desktop set up but are powerful enough to fill a 15 by 15 by 10 foot room. The midrange frequencies are where these really shine, especially cellos. If you are considering getting the Polk S20, I would highly recommend that you get these S15s instead. The S15 feels better balanced and is a much more reasonable size.High frequencies can be harsh, like clicks and cymbals from a drum kit. It is hard to listen to these speakers at high volumes because the high frequency harshness overpowers the rest of the sound. Still, they can sound very good and are very fun. My first few days with them I had a hard time leaving to go to work, I kept saying 'just one more song.'

Pros: Midrange frequencies Vocals Cabinet construction Looks

Cons: Somewhat unbalanced High end is sharp and harsh

I recently purchased this pair of Polk S15's as replacement side surround speakers to go with the all ready Klipsch R-25C and pair of R-15m's. The Polk S15 and the Klipsch R-15m's have about the same quality sound to my rears. I have a Denon Receiver AV-S910W and a Yamaha Subwoofer. My 5.1 surround is now complete for my 12 X 10 room with 60" 4K UHD HDR TV. Movies never sounded better and internet radio music is GREAT through these speakers with proper AV adjustment for movie or music.

I bought these along with a Denon AVR-S540BT receiver for my bedroom. They're a match made in Heaven. These speakers are very accurate all along my ears' listening range (which is still pretty good). The price of both were very nice as well.

Robert from Raleigh, NC on 12/17/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

My expectations where not high for these because the price was so low. When they arrived, I couldn't wait but to open them. The very first thing my wife and I noticed is how good they look for the money. Of course they are vinyl wrapped, but the wrap has a slight woodgrain texture to it. The brown walnut color is a bit darker than I was expecting, but it still looks great. The magnetic grilles are a nice plus for the price too. I swapped our older Paradigm Mini Monitors V2 for these. Even before the break-in was complete, the Polks sounded fuller though the overall spectrum. My hearing is going so I the highs elude me. What I did notice is that the Polks have better midrange than the Paradigms. The Paradigms always had a dip I just couldn't get used to. You will need a sub regardless of placement. I have a 8" ported for the task, albeit someone limited in the size of new living room. I also ordered the S35 which is so much better looking than a soundbar and it is more sleek and nimble than the larger center speakers out there. I have a newer model Yamaha 5.1 receiver powering these. I see some complaints regarding size. They are not big, nor small.. about average. It's the 6.5" model which is BIG. For reference that is a 55" TV in my pick.

Pros: Rounded corners Beautiful for a vinyl wrap Polks proven technology

Cons: Somewhat larger compared to others Strange port thing on back which may potential limit installation options

Pros: Good Construction Well Priced Great bass for small package

Cons: Maybe a bit big if you are looking for a compact speaker

I am using these as surrounds in a complete 5.2 Polk Signature Series system. As always I have to give credit to my advisor Kristina...she always helps me pick the right stuff! My system consists of 2 s60 Towers, s30 center channel as well as 2 Polk HTS 12 subwoofers. I am very happy with the detail and depth that these bring to the surround sound experience. Don't hesitate to buy these they are a steal for the price!

I purchased an Onkyo HTIB system a few years ago. I recently purchased the Polk S30 to replace my center channel speaker. That review is on Crutchfield's site already. Once I installed that center I immediately noticed my Fronts were lacking. If I had the space/money I would get the S60's, but that is beside the point. So I decided to replace the speakers that came with my HTIB with these S15's. So like the S30, I immediately noticed a massive quality improvement over my existing speakers. I love the look of the veneer on the Polk Signature series. They are a very "handsome" speaker and you can feel and see the quality from the moment you unbox them. I got them hooked up and mounted and had to spend a bit of time getting them calibrated and what not. It was an interesting feeling when I started demoing some material. I was expecting a very dramatic change and to be blown away. Well it was dramatic and I was blown away, but in a very calm way. I immediately felt like my room was just more "full" with sound. Before I felt that the room felt odd/empty except when I was directly in front of my center channel. Now I feel there is one massive speaker the width of my entire wall projecting sound at me. I will definitely continue upgrading my system to more Polk Signature Speakers in the future.

Very happy with these paired with an Emotiva A -100 amp for my bedroom TV. Debated this vs soundbar, I made the right choice. In my cave setup I've had lots of equipment from many brands, Klipsch, VMPS, Vandersteen, KEF, Paradigm Studio, Tekton Design towers, these little Polks sound good to my ears. The price I paid was well worth it.

Pros: Sound quality

Cons: The sticker on the cabinet difficult to remove and unnecessary. Polk logo on the grill too large

The S15s have a very smooth sound. Bass is not overbearing but present. Highs come through nice and clear and not harsh. I'm using them as the back channel for a Dolby Atmos 7.4.2 Home Theater system with great results. I built two 40" high speaker stands to hold the S15s. I think they look and sound great!

Features

Dynamic Balance Drivers: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Using just the right materials enables Polk to eliminate issues that reduce speaker performance and tune out performance-robbing resonances before they occur. Dynamic Balance ensures a rich, clean, full-range sound no matter what you're listening to. The Polk Signature S15 bookshelf loudspeaker incorporates a Dynamic Balance two-way driver array with one 1" tweeter and one 5.25" woofer.

  • Hi-Res 1" Terylene Tweeter: The Signature S15 bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes Polk's newly designed 1" Terylene tweeter to deliver clear and detailed high-end response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments. It will support high frequencies up to 40kHz to perfectly reproduce the latest high-resolution audio files with improved audio extension, earning Hi-Res Audio Certification.
  • 5.25" Mica-Reinforced Polypropylene Woofer: The Signature S15 bookshelf speaker employs one 5.25" Dynamic Balance low distortion mica-reinforced polypropylene cone woofer for clean, clear bass, better linearity, and increased dynamic midrange and midbass. This mica-reinforced polypropylene woofer features a butyl rubber surround, massive ceramic motor structure, and a high-temperature Conex fiber spider that combine to create a driver of exceptionally high efficiency, for clean, clear bass, better linearity, lower distortion, and greater durability.

Power Port Technology: The Signature S15 bookshelf incorporates Polk's Power Port technology with a specially designed rear-firing port. Power Port technology smoothly transition air flow from inside the speaker into your listening area for deep, extended bass impact while minimizing turbulence and distortion. Polk's patented Power Port technology delivers 3dB more bass response than a traditional ported speaker.

Non-Resonant Enclosure: The bookshelf speaker's strong, rigid and acoustically inert enclosure reduces unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. And non-resonant Meddite MDF construction, extra bracing, and a thick front baffle ensure a more lifelike sound. The enclosure's curved edges not only look cool, they reduce standing waves inside the cabinet for less audible coloration. The enclosure features a beautiful black washed walnut finish.

Anti-Diffraction Magnetic Grille: The Signature S15 includes an anti-diffraction magnetic grille for unaltered sound. The integrated magnets make it easy to attach and remove the grille from the bookshelf speaker.

Two-Way Crossover: The bookshelf speaker employs a high-performance two-way crossover array (2.5kHz) for seamless blending and optimum time alignment of the tweeter & woofer, creating a lifelike soundstage.

5-Way Binding Posts: The bookshelf loudspeaker features 5-way binding posts for a secure connection to your speaker wire. The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The speaker terminals are color coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).

Applications & Placement: The Signature S15 bookshelf speakers can be used as front and/or surround speakers in a home theater setup. They can also be used in a simple stereo application. If your AV receiver offers built-in bass management, the S15 should be set to "Small" to filter out low bass frequencies.

  • Placement for Front Speakers: As a pair of front speakers in a home theater or stereo setup, create an equilateral triangle between the speakers and the listening position - with the speakers placed as far apart from one another as the listeners are sitting from them.
  • Placement for Surround Speakers: As surround speakers, the S15 should be placed on a side wall slightly behind and above the listening position. If you cannot place the speakers on the side walls, position them on the rear wall above the listening area.

Mounting Options: The S15 bookshelf loudspeakers come with self-adhesive rubber feet so they will sit safely and securely on your speaker stands or shelf. The included rubber feet add approximately 0.125" to the height of the speaker. The bookshelf speakers also have a keyhole slot bracket on the back panel, allowing the speakers to be mounted on the wall using optional mounting screws (sold separately). A wall-mount template is provided to assist you.

Signature Series: Polk designed its Signature Series of loudspeakers to bring a big surround sound and a live music experience into the comfort of your living room at an affordable price. Featuring Hi-Res certification with a new high-resolution Terylene tweeter, redesigned Dynamic Balance drivers, precision crossovers, an anti-diffraction magnetic grille, modern cabinet styling and exclusive Power Port bass enhancing technology, Polk's Signature series loudspeakers deliver crystal clear highs, detailed midrange, and deep bass; plus they look great in almost any decor. The Signature Series by Polk consists of two center-channel speakers, three bookshelf loudspeakers, and three tower speakers.

Note: You may also want to add one of Polk Audio's powered subwoofers (sold separately) for even more bass response.
