System tone controls

High- and low-pass filters on the front and rear channels optimize the amp's output for your speakers, increasing the efficiency of the system. For bass, a low-pass filter clears the way for your sub to play clean, powerful bass tones. The amp also features Infinity's Dynamic Bass Optimizer (DBO™) circuitry, which uses a subsonic filter and bass boost to optimize the performance of your sub and enclosure combo.

Good connections

The Kappa Five can accept low- or speaker-level inputs so it'll work in almost any system — and Infinity includes RCA-to-speaker wire adapters so you'll make the right connections. They also included an electrical anti-rotational locking (E.A.R.L.) ground terminal, which provides a more conductive and secure ground connection for the amplifier. A wired remote lets you control your bass level from the front seat.

Features

Power Output: The Infinity Kappa Five 5-channel amplifier delivers the following power output:

  • 75 watts RMS x 4 + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
  • 100 watts RMS x 4 + 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
  • 200 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms bridged
  • 2300 watts total peak power

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, DC voltage on the audio output, over- or under-voltage (<9V or >16V), and short circuits. The LED on the back panel of the amp glows red if the amp goes into protection mode.

Remote Level Control: The Kappa Five comes with a rotary Remote Level Control module that lets you control the output of the subwoofer channel from a convenient location in the vehicle. A 16.5-foot cable is included.

Controls

Gain: The Kappa Five's rotary gain control let you match the amp's input sensitivity to the output of the source unit. The maximum input sensitivity of the amplifier 0.2V for a line-level input, and 2V for speaker-level input. The maximum signal level is 20V for both line and speaker level inputs. There are separate gain controls for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. A small screwdriver (not included) is required to set the gain.

Input Level: The Input Level switch should be set to match the type of input signal connected to the amplifier. If using line-level connections, select LO. If using speaker-level inputs, select Hi1 or Hi2. Hi2 contains a special circuit designed to fool a factory audio system to detect a speaker connected to its output, and should be used only if Hi1 doesn't work.

Sub Input: The Sub Input switch lets you select the source of the subwoofer channel. If you are connecting a separate subwoofer input from the source unit, you should select "EXT" (External). If you do not have a separate subwoofer input, you can send the signal from the front or rear channels to the subwoofer channel by selecting "INT" (internal).

Crossover: The amp features switchable crossovers for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. On the front and rear channel crossovers, you can choose LPF (low-pass filter), HPF (high-pass filter), or Full (no crossover). The subwoofer channel crossover is low pass only. The cutoff frequencies are variable, and can be set between 32Hz and 320Hz using the rotary controls. The crossovers have a 12dB per octave slope. A small screwdriver is required to adjust the frequency.

Dynamic Bass Optimizer (DBO): The amplifier's DBO circuit features a 0-12dB bass boost. In addition, a subsonic filter helps prevent the amplifier from wasting power by eliminating ultra-low frequencies you can't hear. You can adjust the filter between 10Hz and 80Hz. A small screwdriver is required to adjust the bass boost and subsonic frequency controls.

Phase: You can set the subwoofer phase at 0° or 180°. While playing music with lots of bass, slide the phase switch back and forth. Choose the setting that provides more bass. If there is little difference, leave the switch at 0°.

Auto Turn-on: If your stereo does not have a "Remote Out" wire, you can set the amplifier to automatically turn on when it detects a speaker level signal on the input. If you are connecting a remote turn-on lead, the switch should be left in the "off" position.

Connections

Terminals: The Infinity Kappa Five uses set screw terminals for the +12V power, ground, remote turn-on, and speaker outputs. The terminals are located under a magnetic cover, which can easily be pried off to access the screw heads. The screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head screwdriver (not provided).

Power/Ground: The +12V Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 4-gauge wire. It is recommended that you use a minimum of 4 AWG power wire to the battery, with an in-line 100A fuse installed no more than 18" from the battery terminal. A 4 AWG ground wire (minimum) is also recommended, and attached to a metal area close to the amplifier.

E.A.R.L. Terminal: An Electrical Anti-Rotational Locking (E.A.R.L.) terminal is provided for the ground wire. The terminal is designed for 1/0 AWG ground wire, and requires a large crimping tool to secure the wire. The terminal includes 3 screws to attach the terminal to your vehicle's metal chassis.

Remote Turn-On: The Remote screw terminal will accept up to 8 AWG wire. Typically, an 18 AWG turn-on lead is included in an amplifier wiring kit.

Power/Ground Adapter: If you wish to use power and ground wire larger than 4 AWG, you can use the included plug-in adapter. The adapter has posts that insert into the +12V, REM, and GND terminals and offers 1/0 AWG power and ground terminals. An 18 AWG screw terminal for the remote turn-on wire is also provided.

Speaker Outputs: The amp features set screw terminals for connecting four speakers and one subwoofer. The amplifier's minimum speaker impedance is 2 ohms.

Line-Level Inputs: The amplifier is equipped with three pair of RCA inputs for connecting stereo RCA patch cables from the head unit to the amp.

Speaker-Level Input: The amp includes six speaker-level adapters (bare wire-to-RCA) for connecting the amp to a factory radio or aftermarket head unit. You should insert the speaker wires from the head unit into the adapters and plug the adapters into amp's RCA inputs.

Remote Level Control: An RJ-25 modular "phone" jack is provided for connecting the Remote Level Control cable.

Customer Q&A

Q
I have a toyota 4runner and am building a custom enclosure in the rear. I would like to pair this item (Kappa Five) with my kappa 6x9 component fronts, my 6.5 kappas in the rear, and am looking for a kappa sub that this will drive and properly balance my system. Several reviews state that it under drives their sub and a dedicated amplifier worked better for them. Will this properly drive a kappa 10" or should i buy a kappa 8" subwoofer and make a balanced system? I really like having all the same brand in my system.

A
I share your desire to have a single branded system. We have the Kappa Five with Kappa speakers and a Kappa 8" sub running in 2 ohms. The Kappa subs have a switchable ohm capability. it sounds great and hits surprisingly hard for only being an 8" sub. I was going to do the 10" Kappa sub but space constraints pushed us to the 8". I don't think it would under drive a Kappa 10". To the contrary, I think it would be great and just run the sub in 2 ohm mode.

Q
This amp has speaker level inputs, does it have input signal sensing for amp turn on?
[ Fiishguy  Feb 23, 2022 ]

A
yes it does.
[ KORY  Feb 28, 2022 ]
A
Yes, it does. There is a switch on the amp to allow for auto or manual on. This is for older vehicles which do not have the integrated all encompassing wire harness, which newer cars have. Allowing for steering wheel controls to be utilized. The on-line manual has a much more detailed description of this function than the manual supplied with the unit.
[ RALPH  Feb 23, 2022 ]
Q
Can you run kappa speakers off this amp if the speakers are 2ohms? The amp is 75w x4 for 2 front and 2 rear at 4ohms but the kappa speakers are all 2ohms.
[ Jennifer  Nov 27, 2021 ]

A
Yes you can , the amp is 2ohm stable in stereo you will also pull a little more power out of it. It's rated at 100×4 @ 2ohms.
[ DAVID  Nov 29, 2021 ]
A
Yes. The output of the amp is less than the max of the speakers. They sound good.
[ KORY  Nov 29, 2021 ]
