About the JBL BassPro Hub

Bass that fits in your trunk

Modern music really needs a good subwoofer to convey all of its power. But as cars become smaller, it becomes more difficult to find the space for the bass you need. Bass that fits in your trunk

Modern music really needs a good subwoofer to convey all of its power. But as cars become smaller, it becomes more difficult to find the space for the bass you need. JBL steps up with a clever solution in the BassPro Hub, a powered subwoofer that mounts over the hub of your spare tire to give you maximum bass and maximum space savings.

Small size, big features

The BassPro Hub features a 11" subwoofer with a tough fiberglass cone and rubber surround that'll hold up at high volumes. The 200-watt Class D amplifier is specially designed to complement the sub. Its line-level and speaker-level inputs make the BassHub Pro compatible with any car audio system. The system also includes a wired remote with controls for sub level, crossover frequency, phase switching, and bass EQ, so you can make adjustments from the front seat. The tough plastic enclosure protects the system from your cargo while taking up very little space.

A plug-in wiring harness makes removing the sub to access the spare tire a simple task. To connect the BassPro Hub to your vehicle's electrical system, Crutchfield recommends a EFX or Crutchfield 10-gauge wiring kit; when purchased with the BassPro Hub, we'll throw in a package of Posi-twist solderless wire connectors for no extra charge.

Installation Note: The BassPro Hub is designed to mount inside the spare tire rim. You'll need to turn your spare tire upside down to install this sub. It should only be used in vehicles that have the spare tire inside the vehicle and feature a removable spare tire post; not compatible with welded spare tire posts.

Will it work with an 20 inch jeep grand cherokee wheel?
[ calvin  Apr 04, 2021 ]
1 answer
We do not have the information about the space available in a vehicle. Given that its an SUV, it does seem likely that the opening diameter is at least 15" and there should be at least 7.677" for depth in your SUV with the spare tire in the spare tire well

I have a Sony XAV-AX7000 and on the rear of it, it has a single sub audio out. If I were to get this unit, how should I wire the L/R RCA to the single output?
[ Winston  Mar 31, 2021 ]
1 answer
Try looking for an RCA splitter it will take your single output and make it 2 I have done this in the past good luck

My car has a 17 inch donut spare. Will this work for me?
[ Timewarpone  Feb 21, 2021 ]
1 answer
I wouldn't feel comfortable answering with a "yes" without more info. My car had a 16" spare and it mounted to it fine. The real issue is how "deep" is your spare tire mounting space. Mine is shallow, and i actually had to remove the spare tire for it to fit, and even then the spare tire cover stuck up a bit. So i'd triple check your dimensions. Focusing on the depth of your spare tire mounting location.

Will this fit a Ford Flex Limited 2012? or Into a Chrysler 200S?
[ Albert  Feb 07, 2021 ]

I installed in a 2020 Honda CR-V. Check the inner dimensions of your spare tire. Cross check against JBL specs available at Crutchfield.
[ ALBERTO  Feb 07, 2021 ]
Would this fit in a rav4 2020?
[ marcos  Oct 14, 2020 ]
3 answers
Don't know. I will say that my 2020 CR-V comes with a T155/90D17 spare and presented no issues. It is my understanding that RAV's don't come with a spare any longer but the location is large enough to fit a full size spare should you desire to acquire one. It's a great sub however I suggest you contact Crutchfield (and or JBL) customer service. Also beware of ANC. Read my review on this matter. Good Luck.
[ ALBERTO  Oct 28, 2020 ]
As long as you have a spare tire location in the car with a opening big enough to fit a 11in speaker then yes. I have a focus and it fit perfect in my spare tire
[ ISAAC  Oct 27, 2020 ]
I have a 2019 Buick encore and it was installed professionally so I'm not sure what other vehicles it will fit

Will this fit in a 2005 Saab 92X Aero or a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX?
[ 7r1f0rc3  Sep 30, 2020 ]
1 answer
We do not have the necessary measurements of the spare wire well in those vehicles to check if this can fit. I wish I had different news for you there. According to the manual for this powered sub, it needs an opening of 15" or greater and at least 7.677" depth to fit
[ Paul  Oct 17, 2020 ]  Staff
Will the vibration from the woofer cause any complications with the fuel pump being that it is directly on top of the gas tank because it sits inside the spare? Can I just mount it to the back of the seat in the trunk or on the floor of the trunk?
[ Friedberg  Sep 27, 2020 ]
2 answers
I haven't noticed any effect on the fuel pump, but remember this is not a 2 X 12" box that you can hear from down the street. It simply "fills" in the low end frequencies. If you have a crazy loud / powerful system, adding this may not produce enough bass. Mounting could probably be done several ways, but i think the spare tire "cavity" is acting like a "box" and it may not act the same if it is out in the open and not "enclosed". Hope this helps! I love it, convertibles already have small trunks, and this allows you to keep the small trunk space that you have.
[ Pete  Sep 28, 2020 ]
Good question, but I can not imagine it would interfere with the fuel pump operation. While this unit is powerful, it is not powerful enough interrupt an electric fuel pump. Having installed this unit myself, you could mount it elsewhere driving a large bolt through something else to get a firm mount but at that point I would buy a different subwoofer setup. This is well made and works incredibly well in the place it was designed to be installed.

Do you have to remove the spare tire to make this fit? 2013 Toyota Prius C Three

It fits inside the rim of the spare if the spare sits with the inside of the rim facing up. JBL provides a threaded rod/wingnut that should thread into spare mount on the trunk floor. Even though they show video of it being installed in a Mazda 5, it does not come with the appropriate thread/pitch rod, so that was an added purchase (quite expensive for hardware depending on how obscure the threaded rod size/pitch is in your car). I had to make my own, and used a hex nut, as you will never get it tight enough with a wingnut to keep from rattling. It is also tall enough that it sticks up significantly above the spare tire, and does not allow the trunk floor to sit flush, suspended above the spare as designed. As a result, the trunk floor rests directly on the sub unless you block it up, but then it doesn't clip in properly at the tailgate or sides. But that doesn't stop them from portraying it in the video as a drop in fit. It likely is not in a prius either. It does sound great for what it is though, as long as you don't blast it. Even with a trunk lined with dynamat and foam under the spare (and foam between the sub and spare, and the sub and bolt washer), and the bolt tightened with an impact wrench, it still buzzes. Low to mid volume sound quality is great. Wiring is really well thought out. TL;DR: Quality unit, fit likely problematic.
[ Andrew  Sep 24, 2020 ]
This unit is designed to sit inside the spare tire. That said, the measurements for the JBL BPH are listed on the item page allowing you to measure your vehicle and ensure the spare and associated cover will clear. There are 2 sizes for Prius. Hope it fits, good luck...
[ ALBERTO  Sep 24, 2020 ]
You shouldn't have to I flip my around and put the speaker inside of it
[ ISAAC  Sep 24, 2020 ]
It's designed to fit inside the spare tire. You may have to flip the spare tire over so the inside of the spare is facing up. I don't know if it will fit a 2013 Prius. Check the measurements of the JBL to see if it's width will fit the inside diameter of your spare and the height of the JBL sitting inside your spare will provide enough clearance for the cargo floor to go back on. I have a 2020 Rav4 and there was just enough clearance for it to work.
[ Mike  Sep 14, 2020 ]
I have a 2020 VW Golf. The factory head unit does not have an out for a sub. However i was told theres a way to get around that. Not sure what it is. Would this work for my situation?
[ Melissa  Aug 22, 2020 ]

You could buy a line out adapter like a LCI
[ LANE  Aug 22, 2020 ]
You'd need to either tap into the rear speaker and use the high-level inputs, or tap into the rears speakers with a line out converter. I recommend the Audio Control LCi5 which will also virtually eliminate bass roll-off from your factory head unit.

Yes as this sub is self powered and has both high and low level inputs my factory head unit also did not have sub out you have to tap into your rear speaker wires
[ Kenneth  Aug 22, 2020 ]
Melissa, the JBL BassPro can accept speaker lever inputs. The lower rear speakers, Fender or standard, have a signal that the JBL can work with and amplify. You have to tap into both the L and R speakers so that the JBL can have a complete bass signal of your tunes. Be mindful of your polarities and everything will stay in phase for that clean bass punch that brings music to life. Good luck, happy motoring.

It fit most cars that have a spare tire you just flip your spare tire over and set the speaker in it. I have a Focus ST fit perfect
[ ISAAC  Jun 19, 2020 ]
Anything is possible, but I would not recommend the JBL BassPro Hub due to the aesthetic modifications required. I would put a sub under the seat or even customize the trunk panels for two Rockford Fosgate PPS4-8, for example.

[ Shawn  Apr 29, 2020 ]
My vehicle is a 2020 Honda CR-V so my suggestion: observe the specifications listed in Crutchfield regarding size. Diameter and height. The biggest concern on the Honda was height and it cleared with less than an inch to spare. It was one of the space saver mini spares. Good luck with your measurements. As for the unit, it sounds pretty good and gave me some badly needed punch.

It should as long as you have a area in trunk for a spare tire. I have 2018 focus ST and fit perfectly and don't lose any trunk space
[ ISAAC  Feb 01, 2020 ]
It fits in any spare tire. Small donut or full sized.
[ Mitch  Feb 01, 2020 ]
I put in a brief review and attached a photo.
[ RICHARD P  Jan 31, 2020 ]
Yes, it will fit. I just had one installed in my son's 2016 golf and it appears to be the same trunk dimensions. You will need a small tool bag to store your Jack because the styrofoam tool organizer will not fit after the install. Also, the trunk floor divider will only work on the upper level.
[ RICHARD P  Jan 31, 2020 ]
I'm fairly positive that as long as you have a 15" spare tire, it'll fit.

It should as I have the same spare tire in my 2018 Tucson all you have to do is flip it over and trim the mounting stud that comes with the sub but be careful not to over tighten the mounting stud good luck and by the way it sounds awesome in a Tucson
[ Kenneth  Dec 24, 2019 ]
I'm pretty sure from what I've read is that you need to have a "full" size spare. 15" or larger.
[ Anthony  Dec 24, 2019 ]
It will fit pretty much every vehicle with at least a 15 inch spare tire.

Hi Christopher, thank you for your question. The BassPro Hub is designed to mount inside the spare tire rim. It should only be used in vehicles that have the spare tire inside the vehicle and feature a removable spare tire post. Itll fit in a small spare tire so it should work. You dont need a full sized spare!
[ Mitch  Nov 02, 2019 ]
You shouldn't need to modify anything for any vehicle. So long as you have at least a 15 inch spare tire, this will fit. The only thing you will have to do is run wiring to power and provide signal to the sub. So likely taking lower door trim off and fishing wires through the firewall to the battery, but very simple stuff. I do not have an XB, but I do have a Kia Soul and it fit perfectly and was super easy to wire up. So it's possible they're is something weird with your vehicle in not aware about, but the design of this sub makes it where it should fit every vehicle without modification.

Measure the space for the spare tire. This unit is a little over 14" in diameter. If your space is 15" or larger, it should fit with no issues.
[ R  Jul 27, 2019 ]
It did not fit in mine, which is an LX. It was very close but too tall by about an inch for the lid that covers the trunk space to sit down flush. I knew it was going to be close. I returned it for this reason.

Hello Crutchfield, I have a 2018 Jeep Renegade Latitude with OEM Navigation system; Without Beats Audio System. I would like to buy the new JBL BassPro Hub but I'll need to buy a JL Audio LoC-22 2-channel line output converter? I think that my system hasn't remote output. Thanks

This BassPro Hub has auto turn-on ability when you feed a speaker level signal into it. You can install it without using the LoC-22 and it will turn on. But the LoC-22 would help improve the bass sound and will create a remote turn-on wire for this powered subwoofer. So, you can use it too and will be ok! My Bio:
