About the JBL Club 3020

The well-rounded speaker

It's simple. Your factory speakers are getting you down. JBL's Club Series speakers are the clear solution. JBL equipped these Club 3020 3-1/2" coaxial speakers with UV-resistant polypropylene woofers for stellar performance even under the stickiest (or chilliest) environmental conditions — after all, your car door isn't the most forgiving place to reside.

The speaker's patented Plus One™ woofer structure extends the surface area of the cone to give you a better midbass experience than other speakers this size. And a PEI balanced dome tweeter expands the high-frequency range, so you'll hear musical details that you never heard from your old speakers.

A match for any system

The Club 3020's low-impedance design safely draws more power from your car stereo to give your music extra punch, but you'll get even better results feeding them power from an outboard amp. JBL also includes separate high-pass filters to remove low bass from these speakers if you require it.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Tweeter: Each speaker has a PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced dome tweeter. PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Crossover: The included 270 microfarad capacitors are 1st order high pass crossovers (6 dB/octave); the crossover point is approximately 196 Hz. One capacitor is wired in-line with the positive input of each speaker.

Q
Do these need a bass blocker for a jeep JK rollbar?
[ William  Jan 11, 2020 ]

A
No you do not need a bass blocker. They sounded fine in mine without one.

I used them in the dash. They didn't fit in roll bar for my 2017 Jeep. I got kickers 3.5 from crutchfield def has more punch

Q
I recently installed these speakers into my Toyota 2013 Rav 4 but did not install the 270 microfarad capacitors. Are these necessary and what would happen if not installed?
[ Doug  Dec 28, 2019 ]

A
my understanding is that some systems do not require the capacitors, the system does what is required, I did not use them in my vehicle and they are fine. I think it is possible to blow the speakers without them if the system needs them and is too powerful. good luck

I didn't install them in my 2019 Ram1500 truck either. They sound great with out them. They are not needed for some applications, all depends on what sound frequencies your looking for.

Q
My dodge doesnt have the infinity 7 speaker stock system. It has only a 4 speaker system. However the holes are there in the dash that these could be mounted in place if they could be wired into the system. What would be the best way to add a set of 3 1/2s to the 4 speaker system? Im using a pioneer aftermarket head unit and currently have the factory wiring harness for it. Could these be added and used in this setup?
[ Adam  May 26, 2019 ]

A
You are correct that you should still have the speaker cutout despite not having a factory speaker there. The best way to add additional speakers to that system would be to add an aftermarket amp - have you upgraded any of the original 4 speakers? You could power those 4 speakers with a new amp and power the smaller 3 1/2" in the dash from the Pioneer head unit. The alternative would be to wire the 3 1/2" speakers in parallel with the front door speakers so both are playing the same front L/R signal. This drops the impedance and would potentially strain the Pioneer head unit. If you have additional questions or concerns or want to look at speakers that fit your vehicle you can connect with one of our friendly product advisors here: https://bit.ly/2QNxGQB
