Overview

Our take on the JBL Club 5000C

It's simple. Your factory speakers are getting you down. JBL's Club Series speakers are the clear solution. JBL equipped these Club 5000C 5-1/4" component speakers with UV-resistant polypropylene woofers for stellar performance even under the stickiest (or chilliest) environmental conditions — after all, your car door isn't the most forgiving place to reside.

The well-rounded component system

It's simple. Your factory speakers are getting you down. JBL's Club Series speakers are the clear solution. JBL equipped these Club 5000C 5-1/4" component speakers with UV-resistant polypropylene woofers for stellar performance even under the stickiest (or chilliest) environmental conditions — after all, your car door isn't the most forgiving place to reside.

Strong performance

The speaker's patented Plus One™ woofer structure extends the surface area of the cone to give you a better midbass experience than other speakers this size. The separate 3/4" edge-driven PEI tweeter expands the high-frequency range, so you'll hear musical details that you never heard from your old speakers.

A match for any system

The Club 5000C's low-impedance design safely draws more power from your car stereo to give your music extra punch, but you'll get even better results feeding them power from an outboard amp.

Woofer grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

These speakers sound great! The tweeters were not an exact fit for my Mazda 6, but I was able to make them work in the stock location with some zip ties and "southern engineering". These speakers do not come with speaker wire, so make sure you have some on hand.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sounding / as good as OEM's. The tweeter is a bit brighter. JBL supplied mount kit good too. - I put these into my 2004 Toyota Sequoia to replace OEM JBL front door speakers. I replaced the OEM woofer and tweeter with the Club 5000C set and left the mid in place since they worked fine. I did not use/need the supplied crossover. The tweeter fit perfectly on the existing OEM bracket with the JBL supplied holder and only required splicing into existing wires. The woofer was a very different story...Speaker itself is good but the Crutchfield recommended/supplied brackets were not even close to the right fit considering the woofer is smaller then then the OEM. After a couple calls to Crutchfield tech support it was apparent that they were not as familiar with the size of the vehicle OEM brackets and how to fit this new woofer to it (Very nice people but did not provide a clear solution for me). I ended up using the JBL bracket that was with the new speakers and then modified these to fit onto the OEM bracket. Crutchfield supplied bracket not used. Be careful when removing the inside door latch trim for this car. The small cover over screw breaks easily. To remove trim, push a small plastic shim between between the trim itself and locking switch on both the top and the bottom to release. Before pulling out trim push it back toward the end of the door to release small plastic clip on back side. This particular trim piece may or may not be easy to remove and can br

Pros: Good Sounding Speakers with several JBL included tweeter mounting brackets, Works well with existing OEM system. Crutchfield MasterSheet very helpful as well as adapter cables.

Cons: Woofer required significant bracket modification to fit onto 2004 Toyota Sequoia OEM bracket as recommended. Crutchfield supplied brackets and solutions did not work. This could simply be because of changes by JBL on these speakers over time.

Bought these to listen to podcasts in my work truck so that I can hear voices better vs stock speakers. I don`t like em at all, the tweeters sound too high pitched. I have to dumb them down via EQ significantly. Every word with an S in it hurts my ears.

05 double cab tundra w/ factory jbl. I'm running these from a Pioneer dvd head unit with the factory amp bypassed. The sound quality is much better than factory. I think I could have fit the 6.5's in there but the bass output from these is plenty and the highs are superior over stock.

I installed these in my 2007 Xterra dash and front door. The sound difference to the stock speaker is incredible. The tweeters are crisp, however, I also installed a new head unit from Crutchfield (Kenwood Excelon DPX792BH) that includes hundreds of sound adjustments. The woofers work perfectly, overall, I really enjoy listening to all types of music through these speakers,

Pros: Great Sound!

Cons: Component rewiring took some extra time, but well worth it.

Perfect replacement for 20 YO. HK paper subwoofers. A little Dremel Persuasion was needed to mouth these speakers in the Bmw plastic woofer box, now...super bass! I haven't yet installed the cross overs and tweeters, as I recall didn't need them for this application.

Pros: Great sound restored. Component system, not coaxial.

Cons: None

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a larger cone than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Tweeter Mounting: The I-Mount tweeter mounting system and Starfish mounting brackets give you several different ways to mount the tweeters:

  • I-Mount: The tweeters can be surface-mounted or flush-mounted with JBL's innovative I-Mount system:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Flush mounting uses the threaded flush-mount housing and plastic locking nut. Once a cutout is made, the tweeter is installed in the flush-mount adapter, then into the flush mount housing and inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the existing grilles:
    • Bottom Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is secured to the underside of the grille panel. The tweeter must be inserted into the bracket and locked into place before the bracket is mounted.
    • Surface Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is screwed to the top of the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Flush Mount: There are two sets of tabs to flush mount the tweeter in the Starfish bracket, yielding different mounting dimensions. The upper tabs mount the tweeter completely below the opening and are glued in place. The lower mounting tabs are screwed in place and result in a mounting height just under 3/8". Once the bracket is mounted, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.

JBL bumps w/ my factory headunit

Written by KP, Advisor, on 5/7/2018 1:02:00 PM
I was looking to better my sound without having to replace my factory head unit or amplifier. These JBL Club 5000C's are exactly what I was looking for. I custom installed the tweeter to drive the sound waves right towards my ears and now my vocals are better than ever! You can actually hear the music over my horrendous singing!
