About the JBL Club 6520

The well-rounded speaker

It's simple. Your factory speakers are getting you down. JBL's Club Series speakers are the clear solution. The well-rounded speaker

It's simple. Your factory speakers are getting you down. JBL's Club Series speakers are the clear solution. JBL equipped these Club 6520 6-1/2" coaxial speakers with UV-resistant polypropylene woofers for stellar performance even under the stickiest (or chilliest) environmental conditions — after all, your car door isn't the most forgiving place to reside.

Strong performance

The speaker's patented Plus One™ woofer structure extends the surface area of the cone to give you a better bass experience than other speakers this size. And an edge-driven PEI tweeter expands the high-frequency range, so you'll hear musical details that you never heard from your old speakers.

A match for any system

The Club 6520's low-impedance design safely draws more power from your car stereo to give your music extra punch, but you'll get even better results feeding them power from an outboard amp.

JBL Club 6520, 1986 Honda accord(all original minus stereo)

These speakers are really nice, although for me personally I ran into some touble with them; they bottomed out without having the volume too loud( of course this could be due to my other hardware not being able to keep up with it), they were really annoying to install the front wasn't too bad but the back was a pain given I had to cut parts of my car to be able to get them to fit, and the adapter to be able to get it to fit in my car worked but definitely was a very generic adapter so I have to cut parts of it off to be able to get it in. P.S. No pictures since the covers that came with it didn't fit at all without completely taking my car apart, and I wasn't really thinking about it while putting them in given it took probably around 2-4 hours to put them in.

Pros: Great sound quality Great specs for price Beautiful looking speakers

Cons: Bottoms out at low volume Had to cut parts of my car and the adapter to get it in Covers didn't fit at all without cutting too much out

JBL should be ashamed to have their name on these

Daniel from Georgetown, TX on 3/24/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I am extremely disappointed with these speakers and JBL. I have used JBL speakers in multiple vehicles over the years and they have always sounded great. Unfortunately, these "Club" series speakers do not live up to the JBL name IMO. They sound far worse than my factory speakers. Tinny highs, and very poor bass. I thought maybe the wiring harness were reversed and the polarity was off, nope. They're just bad speakers. I will be pulling these out and replacing them very soon. What a waste of time and money. Do yourself a favor and buy any other speakers.

Pros: None

Cons: Expensive Tinny Highs Poor Bass

overall great sound- they run fine on low power, but they really come alive when the power or volume rise. Crisp highs, live mids, but a little lacking on bass- possibly due in part to the door structure and lack of enclosure in my SUV. I think in a properly sealed and sized enclosure they would be 5 stars for swapping into any stock or entry level aftermarket system.

Pros: great bang for the buck good highs and mids shallow mount well made

Cons: lacking lows

JBL has never failed me

David from San Antonio, TX on 2/18/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I used these speakers to replace my older JBL p652's 6.5" rear speakers in my 2004 Dodge Ram, Quad Cab (4 speaker) as recommended by the Crutchfield rep. I was disappointed with the recommendation because these are only 50W RMS and I had asked for comperable to what I had previously which was 75W RMS. I am using these with a Pioneer AVH-2440 and a Sound Ordnance M75 amp. Together it all sounds good and the speakers are doing well; but still not what I was wanting/expecting as comparable to what I had. I was already removed the old speakers and opened the box to install the new ones so I was not going to send them back and have to wait longer.

Pros: JBL quality and sound.

Cons: Speaker seems good but I am still disappointed in the recommendation from the rep as comparable to what I had.

Replaced my stock speakers which did have more bass these are clearer and do play louder but lack in bass.

Pros: The do get high at full volume. And are clear.

Cons: Like most commenters say they do lack bass. I would recommend a bass blocker because they distort at high volume with high bass.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Sound pretty good, but surprisingly less bottom end than I was expecting. In fairness these are mounted in my rear deck, so they're in the rather large "enclosure" of my trunk, far too large for speakers of this size. If your not trying to annoy the neighborhood with nauseating bass, these work quite well. I think if I bought them again, I'd put them in my doors or maybe build an enclosure around them in the trunk.

Pros: They can handle plenty of volume and have great sensitivity.

Cons: Missing that punchy bottom end you want with rock.

JBL 6520 is a perfect upgrade on a budget!

2008 Toyota Matrix

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Sweet deal! The JBLs were a super upgrade on a budget! Just did the front door locations. My first time working on a Toyota Matrix - first door took an hour, second one took about 15 minutes. (I am an expert now! ;-) ) Having ALL the mounting brackets and adapters made the job easy for a first-timer. They sound FANTASTIC with just the factory had unit. So glad I bought from you guys - the expertise you provide is what sets you apart. NOTE: The Matrix speakers are 4 ohm (printed on the speaker), not 2 ohm as I was advised. Extra bonus: the 6520s are 3 ohm, so they BOOM!

Pros: Quality build, great sound upgrade from factory speaker, all mounting hardware and instrux included!!

Cons: None. See Pros!

Clear sound but anemic and weak

Brad from Montgomery, TX on 10/15/2018

2010 Toyota RAV4

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

For the first two weeks I felt the midbass was lacking and couldn't handle bass very well. A tech there told me that they need time to break in. 45 days later there is improvement but they still suck and aren't worth the money. Vocals and instruments are clear, but they just can't handle bass at all, nor do they produce bass compared to say, factory speakers in Hyundai cars or Bose speakers in cars. They come off sounding hollow cus the lower midbass range isn't there. That crucial 70-120 hz range is severely lacking. I listened to my new speakers compared to oem speakers in a Hyundai and I was very disappointed with the Jbls. They don't hit like quality midbasses and can't go low either (they struggle with mainstream music like Keisha and others). Oem Hyundai speakers absolutely destroy these and they are only $90 a pair. I'd give 2 stars for midbass and 4 stars for the tweeter.

Pros: Cheap, good tweeter, 60 day return policy

Cons: Not worth the money, weak bass, mids pop with deep bass notes or slightly loud volume from a factory Toyota HU.

Installed 4 JBL Club 6520 to replace the OEM door speakers in my 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. I did not want to deal with the hassle of installing a subwoofer, so I was looking for a speaker set that would have ample bass combined with good clarity. These speakers do just that. The sound is balanced, clear, and warm. Easy to install with very good quality of construction. Crutchfield included the Metra speaker wire adaptors (easy to install and worked perfectly) and Metra speaker mount adaptors (perfect fitment for the front, works for the back although it's a little tricky. Neither require drilling into the door) Overall, very happy with these speakers.

Great Value + Performance compromise providing excellent fill in my 1998 Toyota Supra - will update the review when I get some dedicated amplification behind them!

Pros: Great to have JBL, Toyota's preferred audio vendor, in a vintage car. Great cost/value ratio. Easy installation.

Cons: Max 50 Watts RMS - may go with more powerful components after adding an amplifier.

Great sounding speakers, if you're wanting a bit more bass though i wouldn't recommend them unless you're hooking a sub up to your system. Might end up ordering another stock woofer for my Jetta and use the jbls for something else. Overall though has a great sound, good for the price :)

A little on the expensive side, but they are high quality speakers. The universal mounting bracket ended up being of no use to us as we could not match any of the holes to the existing configuration in the Mustang, so new holes had to be drilled - something I was trying to avoid. The speakers are in and sound pretty good. I think I have to configure the receiver better because at high volume the base sounds like "popping" out of these speakers.

Overall these new speakers sound much better -- admittedly it was a low bar since the old speakers were 18 years old. With some tweaks to the stereo's custom EQ, I can dial-in the perfect sound. There wasn't as much bass as I hoped (thus the 4 star rating), which may be function of the size, location and amplifier characteristics.

Pros: Clean sound, quality construction

Cons: sealing tape/weatherstrip is too thin; adapter could be designed better

Amazing upgrade. Installed on a 2017 RAV4 XLE. My wife was complaining that there was no range, and muddy low end on the stock system. Installed these in all 4 doors. We are using the stock head unit. Wow! These really bring out the sound! The highs are crisp, the mods are clear, and there is even some low end bass. Of course these are no substitute for a subwoofer but she is very happy, which means I am happy. Watching some videos about these speakers, Harmon said that they were designed to extract the most from stock head units by using a lower resistance, I think they succeeded. Also, Crutchfield service was impeccable, fast, and accurate.

Pros: Huge improvement over stock. Crisp highs, strong mids, strong beat

Cons: None so far

These were advised by Crutchfield based on my needs. I'm no expert or educated individual when it comes to sound and speakers. I did a pair of these for the front and a pair for the back. Obviously in a 12 year old vehicle anything would be an improvement. Years ago I replaced the fronts with Alpines of some sort that were available at the time. Given the age of those Alpines and some newer technology I assumed these would sound better regardless. I'm very satisfied with the overall quality, and they sound great based on my type of music. There were several comments made that they lacked bass and didn't sound good in that way. I don't try to rattle the rear-view mirror off of anyone's car, so to me they sound just fine. I could see how wanting to force everyone to enjoy your taste in music might not make these the right fit, but for what I think is loud I think they sound clean and I enjoy them.

For the price I am entirely satisfied with these 6.5" JBL 6520 speakers. Installed in the front of a 2005 GMC Canyon base model. Great highs and mids; by far more clarity and than my stock speakers. Instrumentals feel well defined with each instrument now making an appearance; no more muddying of everything together. Bass response is acceptable, but at this size in a coaxial speaker I wouldn't expect much more without spending significantly more or sacrificing clarity. I'll likely be looking to add a sub and amp later down the line.

Pros: Clear, crisp mid range and highs. Well defined instrumentals.

Cons: None, bass doesnt blow your mind but that's to be expected. Beats my stock speakers overpowered but very muddy bass.

Not Impressed, from the OEM speakers I was expecting a huge amount of increased performance for speakers of this quality and price. Overall not terrible speakers but if you are like me and listen to R&B, Hip-Hop with other genres of music mixed in you will really miss that bass. If I hadn't been so happy for buying my first set of after-market speakers and throwing out the OEM's right away I would have put the factory ones right back in and got my money back.

These speakers made such an improvement in my 2006 Tucson. They have a good range of highs to lows. I know many people have said that their bass isn't so good. But they need to remember that these speakers are only 6.75 inches wide that you can only expect that the bass wouldn't be as deep! If this is your complaint then put a subwoofer in your car/truck. JBL club speakers were just what I was looking for. Wanted to upgrade the sound of my 2017 Tacoma without adding an amp or sub. Put the 6x9 in the front and 6.5" in the back. These things sound a lot better and are definitely louder than the factory speakers. Ultimately I will probably replace but I was in a budget and these speakers made the most sense for the money at the time.

Pros: Price, quality and the Crutchfield experience. Everything I needed except dynomat came in the box.

Cons: Wish I would had bought the 6x9 components and adapters but that was my choice. Sound could be better. But these were budget speakers and an amp is not being used just the factory head unit. Probably about 15w per channel or less RMS.

My one complaint would be that at higher volumes the high ranges get very "sharp" (think cymbal hits from a band playing, those are the sounds I mean) but that can be fixed with some EQ settings.

I replaced the stock rear speakers in my 2013 Dodge Challenger with these but ran into a mounting issue. I was only able to line up two of the four mounting holes even with the supplied bracket. This forced me to drill to fit. Not a big deal but the website should reflect a "modified fit." Nevertheless, they sound fantastic and pair very well with the JBL GT7-96's!

Pros: Great definition

Cons: Required a modification to mount

I installed these in the front and rear doors of my 04 infinity G35 sedan. They sound and handle everything well but the verdict is still out due to the stock Bose HU and amp which will be the final upgrades.

Pros: Sound and handle very well. Sound way better than stock Bose speakers.

Cons: not really but being driven by stock HU and amp.

Put these into a 2000 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Extended Cab behind the seat. These were a remarkable improvement to the stock speakers, even with keeping the stock Toyota stereo, for now. For a mid-range speaker, they have really nice lows and the tweeter is a nice boost to the clarity. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was that the adapter did not fit any of the holes without having to flat file off two pieces of the Toyota's speaker ring. Even then, I had to drill pilot holes as nothing would line up all 4 screws. Frustrating, but got it completed. Excellent speakers and would buy them again.

Pros: Sound great. Nice punch.

Cons: installation took much longer than expected

- Value, Speed, Fit, Performance, Happiness in a box - Fourteen year old JBL minivan car stereo was disabled by a rumbling woofer inside passenger-side door. Gluing the torn margin of the speaker cone extended its life by two days. Mac at Crutchfield helped us find a match and a new pair of speakers, wiring adapters plus instructions were in our hands two days later. Installed and van doors re-assembled in 90 minutes. System sounds better than we'd remembered.

Pros: Helpful installation sheet & wiring adapters. Poly cones outperform old cardboard ones! Grandkids got two old spesker magnets to play with.

Cons: Minor matter, new speakers' mounting screw holes are spaced about 1/8" closer (diagonally) than original speakers. Merely had to drill 3/32" holes through a channel in rims in original plastic mounting brackets.

Great Sounding Speakers

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These speakers sound great. I went with these to upgrade the speakers in my 2017 Dodge Challenger. Definitely get a great sound, with out the need of installing an aftermarket amp. For the 2017 Challenger you will have to use the provided adapters. Also you will need to create a spacer to go between the speaker and adapter for the speaker to sit flat on the surface of the rear deck. (The provided screws are too long. It will not allow for the speaker to mount as it should.) I simply used the template provided outside of the speaker packaging and used a flap from the shipping box to make the spacer and it worked out great.

Pros: Good Clean Sound

Cons: Need to provide shorter screws to mount speakers to adapter

I love these speakers. I did a total system upgrade and replaced Kenwood speakers with these - BIG difference. BTW, these DO fit in my 2004 GMC Sierra in spite of Crutchfield's warning that they don't - no modification was necessary at all. Don't get the mounting adapters, they come with nifty adapter rings that I used - did the trick just fine. Between two vehicles, these are the 5th set of JBL club speakers of various sizes that I have purchased. These sound second only to the 6x9's. Nice efficient 3 ohm speakers, they don't really need an amp, but I have them paired with a little 45w Kenwood KAC-M1804 and they 'bark' pretty well!

Pros: Nice full range sound

Just installed the speakers, received as a Christmas gift. Regarding the speaker to door adapters, one set worked okay, the second set did not fit the speaker and was not usable. Was able to use the flat adaptor ring that came with the speaker and that mounted okay to the door. The speaker wire adapters work well. The speakers sound okay, a bit strong on the bass for my listening preference but okay for use in the truck. The installation information was very good, no issues or surprises.

Bought them at half price, but had I bought them at full price, they'd have received only 2 stars. Charity is adequate on a stock head unit, though I doubt they'd maintain such clarity with extra power pushing through them. As others have mentioned, no bass, but quality uppers. I would've returned them for a set of comparable level infinities, but having only paid half, I didn't want to lose the ten bucks in shipping them back. I'll just buy a small sub one day.

These are good speaker, but I was expecting more. I installed these in the rear door of a 2007 Xterra. The JBL Club 5000C components speakers upfront sound superior, however, the rear door sound is not as crisp and lacks some bass. Awesome but not as good as previous JBL model

I trust JBL so I ordered these for my new car, 2016 Nissan Versa, but I also have an older Altima that I put JBL GX963's in the back and GX602's in the front. Those are 2 ohm speakers so I'm not sure if that's the difference in the sound compared to these new Club Series. These and my old ones, the clarity will blow you away! Amazing highs and mids. But these Club 6520's seem to lack the bass the previous model installed in my old car has. People thought I had subs in that car. I went to Crutchfield to re-buy them for the new car to be told that these replaced that model, so I bought since I do not want any other kind of speaker. I've tweaked and tweaked my HU, and you can hear the same bass that I could hear in the older JBL's. but isn't as deep and doesn't hit as hard, definitely won't fool anyone and do later need to purchase actual subs. Overall, great buy and can't go wrong with JBL.

Pros: Amazing clarity!

Cons: Bass not as good as previous models of JBL 2 ohm I have.

I got these on sale which made them a good buy, they get loud and do what i need them to do but if you need something with some more oomph in the low end department i would go with something else. The highs are crisp and the mids are and improvement but nothing special like everything else in this price range. They look cool and feel durable enogh but well see if they stand the test of time

Good speakers

I converted these into component speakers and installed them into my 2002 Camaro SS with Monsoon system. I didn't want to install components and drill into doors for tweeters since the car only has 1700 miles on it. The sound is better than factory with some songs, and not as good with others. This is the closest to factory replacement I could find. Overall, the speakers themselves are nice. The tweeters can get a bit bright and mid woofers can scratch with some songs, but using a factory crossover and wiring the mid woofers up to a 2 ohm factory system can cause this. These are good speakers, I just wish my factoryones wouldn't have blown.

Pros: Was able to re-wire them component style and 3 ohm stable. Price was good too!

Cons: Sounds great with hip-hop, country, and genres other than rock/metal. Sound GOOD (not great) with rock/metal.

Great speakers. I purchased a set of JBL stage 602s for my car and they sounded amazing but they didn't give me a major wow feeling that I wanted. So I am currently returning the 602s and bought the Club 6520s and I am so impressed. Especially since they sound so clear and good from a stock head unit. Not to mention they are easy to install and very reasonably priced.

Pros: Great Highs and Mids. Easy installation.

Cons: Lows are about as good as youll find from a 6 1/2 speaker but need an amp and sub to improve the lows in general.

I received my speakers with all hardware for the install. It was a simple install with the provided equipment. I was able to uninstall and reinstall the new speakers in a short amount of time.

Pros: great sound easy install

Nice upgrade from the stock speakers. Good mid range and highs. The music I listen to does not have a lot of bass so the weak lows are not a problem. If you want bass get a subwoofer. The speakers work with the stock radio head but I will be replacing that unit someday.. I would buy these speakers again.

Pros: Clear sound. They work with a low power stock radio head.

Cons: none.

Terrible sounding speakers

No noticeable difference in volume or sound with replacing paper cone speakers from Subaru with these much better quality speakers from JBL. Very difficult to install in the rear doors of a Forester. Provided adapters do no fit whatsoever. Holes were needed to be drilled in the doors to accommodate mounting locations which luckily worked with brackets that were included in the JBL box, not the ones Crutchfield provides. Waste of time, effort and money.

Pros: Good quality speaker

Cons: No difference in sound or volume. NO BASS at all.

These speakers deliver clear, driving sound no matter what genre of music chosen or source (cd, tape, radio).

Pros: Great sound Plenty of power Terrific value Wiring adapter harness worked well ... and it was free!

Cons: Although the instructions for using the adapter ring were lacking, after figuring out how to install the first speaker (making a 4-screw speaker adapt to a 3-screw mounting frame), the second speaker took less than 15 minutes to install.

Excellent upgrade from factory speakers at a great price

These speakers are an excellent upgrade from factory and will hold their own on bass, mid, and treble although like any setup you'd be better with a sub. I hooked these up to a Kenwood with 18 RMS 50 watts max and they sound great, no need for a separate amp. Paired with JBL club speakers in the back and my truck has a great clear sound. As always crutchfield provides clear instructions for install and good brackets to assure the product fits and easily installs, great service from them and while they can be pricier than some other options it's well worth it in my opinion to support a good company with great customer support.

Pros: Good bass, very clear treble

Cons: Mid isn't amazing

Great for rear speakers

I got these for my rear panel speakers. The JBL Club added great balance between my front JBL speakers and the Sub in the rear. The sound comes out clear and louder than the original factory speakers. Like with the front speakers I sound proofed the area around where the speaker is mounted and it made the sound that much better. Easy to install with Crutchfields instructions.

Pros: Great sound easy to install

Cons: none

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Tweeter: Each speaker has a PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced dome tweeter. PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Mounting: Without an adapter, the Club 6520 speakers fit standard 6¾" applications. Given their required cutout, they will also fit many 6½" applications without an adapter, but new screw holes must be drilled. Using the included adapter brackets, they can be mounted in a wide variety of 6½" and 6¾" applications, without any modification. (Using the adapter brackets adds approximately ¼" to the speaker's mounting height.) Please enter you vehicle information to confirm fit.
