Overview

Our take on the JBL Stadium GTO930

One of my favorite moments during a car audio installation is pulling out an old, ragged factory speaker from its location and then picking up its new, aftermarket replacement. And if you're installing JBL's Stadium GTO930 premium car speakers, the immediate difference is a dramatic jump in design and build. From the hefty magnet to the oversized voice coil with shimmering copper, you can see and feel improvement — now just imagine how much better they'll sound than the browning antiques that have been filling your ears with compromised audio for so long.

Say goodbye to factory sound

One of my favorite moments during a car audio installation is pulling out an old, ragged factory speaker from its location and then picking up its new, aftermarket replacement. And if you're installing JBL's Stadium GTO930 premium car speakers, the immediate difference is a dramatic jump in design and build. Edge-driven dome tweeters

JBL created their GTO930 6"x9" 3-way speakers as a hi-fi solution for those who want better sound in their vehicle. You'll find an edge-driven design in their PEI polymer dome tweeters and supertweeters for a smoother, more open response and minimal distortion at high volume levels. Each tweeter also features a level control button so you can adjust the brightness to your taste.

Woofers enhanced with Plus One+ technology

JBL's glass fiber woofer will hold its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer either. JBL's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you lots of surface area — and a bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Power handling perfect for any system

These 2.5-ohm speakers boast ultra-high sensitivity so that you can power them with a factory radio or aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp. Either way, these speakers' low impedance safely takes advantage of every watt of power available for exceptional performance. Grilles are included.

Great All Around Speakers !!! Excellent clarity and volume !

Guest from Casper, WY on 3/3/2019

For 6 months I have had a pair of these in the rear deck of my 2006 Camry daily driver. They are paired to a Pioneer DEH80 head with a Pioneer 5 channel amp with 75w into 4 ohms. I did the baseline amp settings on the phone with pioneer tech line to start out with relatively correct settings for my system. I had been running them with AMP HPF on with amp settings as I have a 12" sub with 350w for low end. They are broken in and last week I switched off the HPF so these speakers get full amp signal, WOW is all I can say. I have had to scale back the sub output to just produce the lowest frequencies because these JBs, Ls are handling most of the work now. JBL GTO stadiums produce Amazing sound, after breaking in am getting used to the detail I am hearing with the 3db treble switch set to on (right on the speakers). So if you are running an amp with filter settings maybe start out with all filters OFF, just see what these will do out of the box! For the price these speakers really are getting it done. I in the past have used Focal, Polk, JBL, MB quaty, JL, ect..........These hold up just as well as anything I have ran. I can only discern a slight improvement on my front 6 x 9s which are AUDIOFROGS, I would have done front and rear Audiofrog but I am on a budget.

Pros: everything, high build quality and sound. premium connectors work way better than the push on type most still use, better connection and made install easy.

Cons: no cons, I have not yet had 1 single issue. no fault of the speaker but the treble boost switch would be nice on the bottom instead of top, as I have retained OE Toyota Speaker Grilles. They are installed on top of my rear deck dropped down with top mount, with the rear deck trim panel on the treble switch is totally covered. I believe the pioneer speaker covers address this issue but I like the OE look better.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good 6x9 speakers for the price. I put them in heavy wooden enclosures and they give good all around performance for the price.

Pros: Good full range speakers for the price.

Cons: Bass is only OK.

Great detail and depth in the sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Only six months ago I got the JBL GTO939 and installed them in my travel trailer. They sounded great. But I decided to replace them with the JBL STADIUM GTO930, given the wider frequency range. There IS a noticeable difference - worth the effort and money, plus I'll be putting the old ones in my car anyway. Either the old or new sound great, even at low volume. The details they bring out in the music are amazing. I never grow tired of listening to my old music for hours, in the dark, at night, at low volume, in the otherwise extremely quiet camper. The tweeters are tilted slightly, and I found the stage becomes bigger, better and diffuse if they are positioned to direct the sound AWAY from the listener, towards the walls in the camper. When I install the old ones in my car, I'll position the tilt away from the passengers, to bounce the sound off the rear window, hopefully with the same effect. Sale price was $50 off on the pair of the Stadiums. In the settings of the head unit, be sure to specify "No subwoofer", to fully hear the low frequencies. I tried experimenting with a separate subwoofer and it added nothing. Main complaint: The holes for the screws are plastic and extremely delicate. This is a BIG PROBLEM, especially if you like to listen to your music with no interference (real or imagined) from the grills.

Pros: Superb detail and dimension in the sound, even at low volume

Cons: Plastic frame is easily broken if you tighten the screws too much

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

High-Output Design: The high output 2.5Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4Ω speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2.5Ω load.

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has an Edge-driven soft dome tweeter. Edge-driven tweeters have better dispersion characteristics and allow for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The tweeter also has an output level switch; choose +0 dB (flat) or +3 dB.

Super Tweeter: The GTO 930 adds a super tweeter to reinforce the high frequencies and keep pace with the larger cone of the 6" x 9" woofer.

Terminals: The input terminals are set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.
