Bass with style

JBL's GTR-1001 mono amplifier powers your subwoofer with up to 1,000 watts RMS from a compact chassis that takes up very little space. A low-pass filter clears the way for your sub to play clean, powerful bass, while a bass boost and phase switch help you get the sound just the way you want it.

Connectivity

This amplifier can accept low- or speaker-level inputs so it'll work in almost any system, and the package includes screw-on RCA-to-bare wire adapters for the speaker-level signal. The GTR-1001 sub amp will integrate perfectly into a system that uses a matching JBL GTR-102 or GTR-104 full-range amplifier with its handy Bluetooth® connection.

Awesome mono amplifier

I have 2 JBL gtr-1001 amplifiers and even though I have not installed the latest one that I ordered this amp powers 2 8ohm and 1 4ohm sub for a 2ohm mono load and my subs hit hard without the amplifier getting hot or going into protection mode. I highly recommend this amplifier, especially at Crutchfield's price!

Pros: Power, size, and price

Cons: So far none but I do have to install my 2nd gtr-1001

Nice amp, very versatile. As most people have said it could have a subsonic filter but that's about all I can say. Lightweight in a good way, solid but not bulky. Overall you can't beat the price for a JBL anything, let alone a 1000 watt amplifier.

Fantastic Amp. Love the way it looks, very clean looking amp. Easy to install no problems at all. Set screws are starting to strip out after minimal use. But easy to replace if they get to far. Very happy with my first crutchfield purchase, and with the outcome.

Pros: Easy set up. Simple controls. Sounds fantastic for the price you pay.

Cons: Set screws starting to strip out after short period of time.

Solid budget choice

Shawn from Texas on 5/29/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I purchased this amp for a great price through the outlet store. The amp is very compact and has a nice solid feel. I like the Philips screw heads instead of the Allen key (seem to always misplace it). Ran it for about 2 hours after installing at 3/4 to max volume in 100 degree heat and the amp was only warm. There is a dyno video on the infinity k1000 which is the same amp as this besides the heatsink and subsonic filter and it shows just how powerful and efficient this thing is.

Pros: Compact, solid feel, Phillips screw heads, very efficient, underrated, price

Cons: No subsonic filter (I'm running sealed so don't need it anyways)

Clean and Powerful!

Rick from San Antonio, TX on 5/6/2018

Awesome amp for the price. Looks great and sounds even better. I ended up buying 2 to power 2 Audiofrog GB 10" subs providing 700 watts @ 4 ohms of clean undistorted power to each sub. My previous amp was a JL Audio HD 1200.1 (recently died on me after about 4 years of use) which is also a great amp but for the price you can buy 6 of these JBL amps and 2 of these provide more power than the JL Audio! I believe you get what you pay for and have always gone for high quality and this is a rare case you get great quality at a really low price. I recommend you get one before they are gone!

Pros: The price! You normally don't get something this good at this price level.

Cons: -No sub wire remote option (Just set the gain correct and deal with the power! Lol) -No rca preouts to connect another amp (Not a big deal) -Connections and knobs seem a little cheap but get the job done

Great amp if you're looking for a amp that gives you the bang and make you feel the bass. For the price and a year warranty you cant lose. It looks nice. I have it at 4 oms and the bass is knocking. On top of that, don't forget to hit this was helpful button. You don't need to look any further. This is a sleeper for sure. I didn't expect it to hold power like it does. I have it powered by my car battery alone. I have a mustang 1996 and a 2 Ported sub. I have a little more powered alternator, nothing massive. You won't be upset.

Pros: Good bang for the price and more power. The size looks good and there is a click when it turn on and off

Cons: The guidebook, but you can look it up for people who may need it

More than loud enough for my needs. I can't make it distort even when I have tried by pushing up the bass boost and gain, etc. Pushing 2 ten inch kickers. More than pleased. I have never felt any heat off the amp yet either.

Pros: Loud Clean

Cons: hum through speakers that was not present before this amp, but only audible when there is no music playing, this amp was a direct replacement for an amp that didn't make noise, so yes, I know my ground is good

Bought this for my son at Christmas, we got it installed pretty quickly without any issue. Firstly I'll say the feel of the build quality is great compared to the other amps he has had. As far as power goes he has it running into 2 Kicker Solobaric 12" speakers in a ported box and it is way louder than than I care to handle in the car. The sound quality is very good even though the bass hits hard it still retains some good clarity and sound. All in all seems like a good product within its price range. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again and if I did it would be from Crutchfield as their prices are good, shipping is fast and customer service is top notch.

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, over- or under-voltage (<9V or >16V), and short circuits. The LED on the top of the amp glows red if the amp goes into protection mode.

Controls: The GTR-1001's controls are located on one side of the amplifier. The rotary controls require a small screwdriver (not included) to make adjustments. The amp controls include:

  • Gain: The rotary gain control let you match the amp's input sensitivity to the output of the source unit. The input sensitivity range of the amplifier is 0.2V and up for a low-level input, and up to 20V for speaker-level input.
  • Input Level: The Input Level switch lets you select the type of input you are using. For high-level input, there are two settings: Hi1 and Hi2. If the audio system fails to play with an amplifier connected to its output, or you get a "speaker disconnected" message on your factory stereo, set the switch to the Hi2 position. The Hi2 position includes a circuit design to fool this type of factory system into "seeing" a speaker connected to its output.
  • Crossover: The amp features a non-defeatable low-pass filter that determines the upper limit of the frequencies that are sent to the subwoofer. You can adjust the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter from 32Hz to 320Hz using the rotary control.
  • Bass Boost: The GTR-1001 has a variable 0-9dB bass boost, centered at 45Hz. This allows you to dial in the amount of bass according to your personal taste.
  • Phase Switch: The amp has a 2-way Phase Switch that lets you invert the phase of the speaker output by 180°. When the subwoofer is out of phase with the other speakers in the vehicle, sound waves cancel each other and the bass response suffers. If the bass response is poor, inverting the phase of the subwoofer may improve it.

Connections: The JBL GTR-1001 uses set screw terminals for the +12V power, ground, turn-on (remote) lead, and speaker outputs. The screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head or flat-head screwdriver (not provided). The amp connections include:

  • Power/Ground: The +12V Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 4-gauge wire. It is recommended that you use a minimum of 4 AWG power wire to the battery, with an in-line 100A fuse (or higher) installed no more than 18" from the battery terminal. A 4 AWG ground wire (minimum) is also recommended, and attached to a metal area close to the amplifier.
  • Remote Turn-On: The Remote screw terminal will accept up to 8 AWG wire. Typically, an 18 AWG turn-on lead is included in an amplifier wiring kit.
  • Speaker Outputs: The amp features screw terminals for connecting two speakers. The terminals are wired internally in parallel. The amp's minimum speaker impedance is 2 ohms, so you can connect one or two 4-ohm subwoofers, a 2-ohm subwoofer, or one subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils.
  • Speaker-Level Input: The amp includes two bare wire-to-RCA adapters for connecting the amp to a factory radio or aftermarket head unit without preamp outputs. You should attach the left and right speaker wires from the head unit to each adapter and plug the adapter's RCA plug into the amp.
  • Line-Level Inputs: The amplifier is equipped with one pair of RCA inputs for connecting stereo RCA patch cables from the head unit to the amp. If your source unit only has one subwoofer output, a "Y" adapter should be used to split the mono signal into two outputs.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
I have 2 RF Prime R2D4 10s. I'm in between on what I should get for them amp wise. I would like a fairly priced product that still operates the subs at a solid level. Is this a good product for that? If not is there is a better option that I can buy from this site? Thank you.

I put that amp on 2 8"polk audio mm842 in a ported box and I love it. My down fall is I have the Sony system factory receiver 2013 f150 and can not change it out. Cruthfield has worked with me on everything from hook up to giving different options. Good luck. I would do it again amp is a deep hitting unit

This amp has a tremendous amount of power and I have it running 15 L7 and it pushes is hard and stays cool. Now have had it for 10 months no problems . I believe it's the best bang for your buck without compromising.
[ Shawn  Sep 12, 2018 ]
A
If you run your subs in parallel, then the amp will put out about double the power you need. It will be a great amp for this (just be careful not to overpower the subs) and will give you the option later if you get better subs that can handle more power.
[ Trifone  Sep 12, 2018 ]

I use this amp to power 2 RF punch 2 4ohm 12 inch subs (400watts rms) and its works great. Has plenty of juice,so much so that i have the amp set to less than half the output power. When i had it higher it was too much. Made my skull vibrate
[ Santiago  Sep 10, 2018 ]
A
Your subs are 4 ohms and this amp pushes 1000w at 2 ohms. Depending on how you wire your subs they are going to run at 4 ohms or 1 ohm. Plus your sbus are rated at 250w rms. I would look for a 500w mono amp that runs at 4 ohms or 1 ohm, (1 ohm is prob easier to find). This amp would push 700w at 4 ohms so you would be fine, plus if you wanted to upgrade your speakers later you could( if you get 2 ohm speakers)
[ john  Sep 10, 2018 ]
A
Yes, this amp is actually perfect for that. I have. 10 inch w6 connected to this and handles no problem. Especially for the price I was kinda skeptical but it was well worth it! Looks great too!

The 80hz mark for the freq knob appears to be in different spots for this amp. On mine its at the 1 o clock position above the right line and not above the left line at 11 o clock. Which position is correct?

Q
Can I hook up 2 rockford fosgate p3sd4 12s to this? I'm very confused on ohms and how they work. Thanks.
[ Shane  Jul 06, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Shane, the GTR will run both of those subs, albeit at a 4 ohm load. This is accomplished by wiring the voice coils of each woofer in series and then wiring both subs together in parallel to the amp. I know that may sound confusing but there is a wiring diagram on this site that shows wiring DVC's in series. So, on one sub, run 1 wire from the NEG on 1 VC to the POS on the opposite VC. (VC is a voice coil) Do the same on the other sub. This will leave you with an open NEG and POS on each sub, 1 per VC. Now wire those 2 NEG terminals (1 on each sub) together and do the same with the 2 open POS terminals. These are the 2 wires that need to be presented to the amp, meaning you can then run a wire from one of those POS terminals you just hooked together and one from the NEG terminals and you will present a 4 ohm load to the amp. A picture is worth a 1000 words, especially true in this case. TBH, if you haven't bought this amp yet, I would look for a 1 ohm stable amp and then you would simply run everything in parallel and present a 1 ohm load to the amp. If you already have the amp, I am sure it will sound good, even at a 4 ohm load. The amp is rated at 700 watts @ 4 ohm's, meaning each sub would see 350 rms watts. These amps are known to be slightly underrated. If you haven't purchased the subs yet and want the amp, I would opt for the 2 ohm DVC. Wiring those in series/parallel will allow a 2 ohm load to be presented to the amp. This will allow the amp the pump out the 1000 watts rms, 500 to each sub. Hope this helps and GL.

Q
Which wiring kit would I need for two kicker comprt?
[ Niiicckk  Feb 13, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
This isn't an answer for which kit but tells you how to wire your subs, your looking for a final resistance of 2 ohms to take advantage of the full potential of the amp. go to jl audio website click on support and then speaker wiring tutorials. Hope that helps a bit.

If you connect the speakers in series then yes you can. However, the amp will NOT have anywhere near enough power for both of them. I have one hooked up to this amp and it is amazing

No, it's a mono sub amp. Their multi channel amps in this series are bluetooth. All info including owner's manuals and specs are found on JBL's website.

A
Hi there. This particular amp is not BT. The GTR 104 is and the 2 amps can run together since the GTR 104 has the control unit. The GTR 104 is a small, albeit very powerful 4 channel. I have both amps. Hope this helps.

Q
would this amp be able to push two MTX Audio FPR12-02 Shallow Mount Subwoofers an would it be better two get two subs at 2 ohms or 4 ohms?
[ chase48  Nov 09, 2017 ]
4 answers
A
It should do it no problem
[ DAVE  Nov 09, 2017 ]
A
This amp is a great choice to run two of these subs. Make sure you get the 4 ohm version. The amp won't be able to run two at 2 ohms
[ Trifone  Nov 09, 2017 ]
A
Yes since those subs take 400 rms each they should be able to handle this JBL amp at 4 ohms very well
[ Marcos  Nov 09, 2017 ]
A
Yes this amp would be a real good match actually. Pushing 2 4 ohm subs parallel you'd get a 2 ohm load. At 2 ohms this will make 1000 watts rms. So you'd get about 500 watts rms to each sub, which is slightly over the 400 watts rated for the sub, but you'll be fine as those mtx subs will handle it. I wouldn't worry about the amp or the subs, they are good, just be sure to make or buy a good enclosure to spec.
