Product Research

JBL Speaker Stand: The JBL JS-80 stands are designed specifically for JBL's L82 Classic loudspeaker (sold separately). The metal stand angles the speaker upward 7-degrees for better sound imaging. Follow these guidelines when mounting & placing your JBL L82 Classic loudspeakers.

  • For best results, place the L82 Classic loudspeaker 6' to 8' apart. If you set the speakers farther apart than this, angle them toward the listening position.
  • The L82 Classic loudspeakers will produce the most accurate stereo soundstage when the angle between the listener and the speakers is between 40 and 60 degrees.
  • Generally, bass output will increase as the L82 Classic loudspeaker is moved closer to a wall or corner. For best performance, JBL recommends that you place the speakers at least 20" away from the sidewalls.

Q
Will the JBL JS80 stands hold my heresy 4's?

The JBL JS80 stands are rugged enough to support the Heresy IVs. As with most speaker stands, be mindful of a high center of gravity, but given most speaker stand designs, the JS80s are more stable than most. Some things to consider: -The stands tilt back at 7 degrees. With the tweeter height of 18.75" above the bottom of the Heresy enclosure that would mean that the the tweeter would be aimed higher than your ear assuming 36" ear height. You would need to be within 8" of the speaker to have the tweeter aimed at your ear on axis. At 72" from the speaker the tweeter is aimed at roughly 44" above the floor. -The speaker riser on the Heresy would most likely be removed to sit on the stand properly. However, a filler block could be fabricated to fill the void inside the riser. This would unfortunately raise both the speaker height and the center of gravity. The considerations cited may not be of concern since some criticism the Heresy as being somewhat bright, and having the tweeter off axis may soften the high end a bit. (The horn dispersion pattern may render this concern moot.) I currently use my JS80 stands with JBL 4306s (roughly the same size as the L82s), and I love them. In my situation the JBL JS120 stand would be a more suitable stand for the Heresy's given the concerns above. My Heresy IIIs live on the floor on the stock risers, and they work fine. I did raise my Heresy IIs temporarily, and I liked what happened with the imaging, but the stands were not tilt back. Hope this helps.

This stand was designed for the JBL 82 Classic (book shelf speaker) to fit on the floor and give it the same sound characteristics as the JBL 100 (floor standing speaker) . Since your Klipsch Heresy IV is a floor standing speaker I feel you would be disappointed due to the fact your Horns would aimed at the sealing on this stand not a ear level that your floor standing speakers already accomplish. I bought the JBL 82 Classic to replace my JBL 82 (i bought in the 90's) for a mini home theater setup. I already had some old Radio Shack speaker stands, so when I read the tech specs on this stand and the 7 degree tilt so the tweeter would be aimed at ear level, I took a chance and tried them. The new stand raised the bottom of the speaker 16.5 in from the floor my, R-S stands only raised them 5 in from the floor and yes In my case it did sound better. It is heavy gauge steel would hold a floor standing speaker with no problem so if your not concerned about sound imaging and just need to raise your speaker off the floor? I'm sure their are speaker stand makers that would do that for less money. ( I wanted to post a pdf spec sheet I downloaded from JBL but this forum wont allow it.) Hope this helps in your quest.

These hold them, easily! Be aware that these stands are made for solid base/flat bottom speakers like the JBL L100 Classic, but your heresy 4's have built-in angle stands. If you can get around that issue (like removing the bottom stand on your speakers), you would love these. That being said, these stands are built like tanks and made for a lifetime.
