About the JBL Stage A135C

Emily S.

Front-row sound in a slim package

When I was shopping for a center channel speaker for my system, I was frustrated by how big and boxy most of them were. I wanted crisp, clear dialogue, but I also wanted to be able to see the bottom half of my TV. If JBL's Stage A135C had existed at the time, it would have been on my short list of choices. Measuring just over 4” tall, the A135C is the perfect low-profile center channel to anchor your JBL Stage surround sound system.

Features

1" Aluminum Dome Tweeter w/ HDI Waveguide Horn: The JBL Stage A135C center-channel loudspeaker features a 1" aluminum dome tweeter with a High Definition Imaging (HDI) waveguide horn for lifelike high frequencies with clarity & accuracy.

Six 3" Polycellulose Woofers:  The JBL Stage A135C center-channel loudspeaker houses six 3" polycellulose woofers with rubber surrounds that deliver signature JBL bass performance.

Bass Reflex Cabinet: The center-channel loudspeaker employs a bass reflex cabinet with dual side-firing ports (one on each end of the speaker cabinet) for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The cabinet features MDF construction and is covered in a black vinyl. It also includes a detachable cloth grille.

5-Way Binding Posts: The JBL Stage A135C is fitted with a set of 5-way binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The 5-way binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and banana plugs (single or dual). Plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs.

Placement & Mounting Options: The center-channel speaker should be placed directly above or below the center of your TV screen; no more than 2' from the top or bottom of the TV. The JBL Stage A135C can be placed on a flat-surface or wall-mounted.

  • Tabletop Mount: Four self-adhesive rubber feet are supplied for safely placing the speaker on a flat surface; like a shelf, stand, or table. The rubber feet add 0.125" to the overall height of the speaker. Leveling feet are included to tilt the Stage A135C up or down and angle it toward the main listening position if the center-channel loudspeaker is is mounted on a low shelf below your TV or high shelf above your TV.
  • Wall-Mount: The JBL Stage A135C can also be wall-mounted using the integrated keyhole slots on back of the center-channel loudspeaker (mounting screws not included). You cannot adjust the tilt or angle of the speaker once its wall-mounted.

Dimensions shown here are different than manufacturer's website. I'm assuming this is a mistake on the vendor's part?

Our measurements are for everything including the grille. The measurements on JBL's site are correct when only measuring the cabinet

Q
I only have tv speakers (my bose lifestyle died on me) will the A135C suffice as my sole sound source while I build a system? Is it compatible with my bose subwoofer? Thx

Without out knowing exactly what Bose Lifestyle system components you have it's a little tough to answer your question, but I can tell how I'm using my A135C. I had an old harmon/kardon BDS Blu-Ray receiver 2.1 sound system I was using with my TV. The technology is old and the Blu-Ray player was becoming intermittent so I picked up a refurbished Denon AVR-S540-BT receiver to replace my old harmon/kardon surround receiver, and added a refurbished Sony UBX-700 streaming blu-ray too. In for a dollar, in for a pound I decided to add the A135C center speaker for improved audio. The unit is "passive" so whatever you hook it up to will drive it. So if you have a surround receiver the AC135 will work for you, and you can build around it. As you can see I have a "hybrid" system but it works just fine. Hope this answers your question.

Q
Does A135C timbre match with Studio 570?
[ SANDEEP  Jan 18, 2022 ]
2 answers
A
To the best of my experience, the JBL Stage A135C does not "color" the sound like some speakers out there.. The center channel speaker will take the information given to it from the soundtrack of the DVD/Blu Ray player or the streamed audio coming from an online server. It does not enhance the sound to fix a bad sound mix and whatever color you sent to it from the graphic equalizer in your system it will faithfully present it. If you like a lot of bass, the speaker should handle it efficiently although it will not give you a true bass experience like a dedicated subwoofer.

Honestly I haven't heard the 570s, what I can certainly tell you is that the A135C speaker is awesome in many ways, really clear tones in a enjoyable timbre sound

Q
Does this speaker require a separate subwoofer?
[ Nancy  Feb 06, 2021 ]

A
This is a passive speaker and it require a subwoofer
[ SIMON  Feb 08, 2021 ]
A
This is not a sound bar. I would run a subwoofer as well.
[ RAYMOND  Feb 06, 2021 ]
A
Yes, a sub is necessary if you want to hear the effects
[ JOSHUA  Feb 06, 2021 ]
A
Using this as a center channel. So yes, a sub is required.
[ JIM  Feb 06, 2021 ]
A
It doesn't require a subwoofer or any other speakers to function. You can connect it as part of a surround system without any sub at all. I still recommend a subwoofer if you're using it as part of a surround system, as this speaker has smaller drivers which don't produce very much bass on their own. It is however an excellent center speaker regardless.
[ Eric  Feb 06, 2021 ]
A
You don't need a subwoofer but this is a center channel for a home theater system so typically yes
