Quality and power

Quality and power

JBL has been building high-performance loudspeakers for decades, so they know something about bass. They made their latest Stadium Series subwoofers to deliver powerful low-end punch and handle the high wattage of today's car amplifiers.

Handles up to 500 watts RMS

The Stadium Series 1224 12" sub handles up to 500 watts RMS, and it's optimized for use in a very small sealed enclosure. JBL uses the airflow from the internal works to cool the 2-1/2" voice coil, so you can rely on this sub to stay cool in the heat of battle. The sturdy polypropylene cone and nitrile rubber surround will stand up all the abuses of heavy bass output.

Selectable impedance

This Stadium Series subwoofer features SSI™ (Selectable Smart Impedance), a switch which lets you vary the sub's impedance from 2 ohms to 4 ohms to optimize its effectiveness. If you upgrade your amplifier or decide to add another sub, you'll be able to adjust the 1224's impedance to work best with your system.

Versatile power

The terminals on this Stadium Series sub will accept up to 10-gauge wire. You'll get full power from your amp even over long wire runs, so you and your subwoofer have the juice you need. See what this JBL sub can do for your system.

Features

Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI): A switch on the input terminal allows you to easily change the woofer's impedance between 2Ω and 4Ω settings. (The connected amplifier should be off when changing the impedance.) The power handling is the same for either setting; 500 watts RMS/1500 watts peak.

Terminal: The set screw wire terminals will accept bare wire up to 10 gauge and are tightened/loosened with a 2.5mm Allen wrench (not included).

Enclosure Recommendations:

  • Sealed Box Volume: 0.75 ft³
  • Ported Box Volume: 2.5 ft³ with one 4" diameter x 11.7" long port (tuned to 30 Hz)
  • Free-Air: The woofer can also be mounted in free air to a baffle board (infinite baffle, no enclosure). When mounted in free air, the power handling is reduced by half (to 250 watts RMS).
  • Band-Pass: JBL also recommends a prefabricated band-pass enclosure, but no volume specifications are listed in the manual. Band-pass enclosures often provide the most output available from any amplifier and subwoofer combination, but at the expense of sonic accuracy.

Thiele-Small Parameters: Some of the parameters change based on the impedance setting:

Re (Ω) 1.82 4.07
Le (mH) 1.03 0.94
Sd (cm²) 530.93 530.93

The wiring is going to be straight up, for the most part. Two subs in two single boxs, 2 subs in a single box that has a divider in it. Positive to positive and negative to negative on both both speaker wires Now if you have 2 subs in a big box with No divider it, or a bandpass. One set will be regular straight + to +, and - to -. The other will be the same at the amp, but at the speaker you'll flip them. You have a - going to a +, and a + going to a -. Suggestions I have for you... Switch the amp and speakers to 2 ohm Output level is at you discretion. Max should be no problem Frequency level down to 30 or 35 as low as the amp can go. Leave the bass boost alone. Only amateurs use them. Use #12 oxygen free stranded speaker wire. Box, if you have the room, I'd go with the 2 subs in a single big box with no divider. No matter what box set up you have. Your going to like it 2 fared capacitor will also be handy with #1 wire to it and your amp. I'm running 1 stadium, with 2 ohm 1500 watt class d Alpine, with a 3 fared cap. And I can still see my headlights dimmly flicker at night Hope this helps, enjoy

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs, or for sub wiring info, I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the what type of wiring will work best for you, and confirm your amp and subs will work well together.

If amp is 1channel positive to positive on1 from amp then jumper wire from negative to positive on 2nd sub then negative of second sub back to negative onamp .run subs on 4ohm they should handle 1000 watts no problem but if amp overheats make sure amp is off and switch them to 2ohm and try turning AMp boost and sensitivity down a quarter turn..
