About the JBL 102AM

Quality and affordability
Quality and affordability
Great bass usually depends on your wallet, as a nice sub and powerful amp can cost serious cash. Now JBL steps up with some help for the bass-hungry, designing their affordable Stage subs to help you get strong bass when your bank account's a little weak.
Excellent power handling
The Stage 102AM features a polypropylene cone for enhanced stiffness, supported by a high-roll rubber surround that'll stand up the abuses of life in your ride. It'll handle up to 225 watts RMS (900 watts peak), and it works equally well in sealed or ported enclosures, so you can get the kind of bass you want.
Reliability
The 1-1/2" voice coil contributes to this sub's impressive power handling, while airflow from the cone's movement cools the voice coil for exceptional reliability. And, speaking of reliable, JBL puts these subs through a rigid testing process that includes baking, freezing, and blasting them with power for days on end, all so that you never have to worry.

Enclosure Recommendations
Sealed Box: JBL recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.23 ft³. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.
Ported Box: JBL recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 ft³ using one 2.95" diameter x 4" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 50 Hz. They also recommend using a sub-sonic filter. Ported enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power.
Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed and ported enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates the front of the speaker from the back. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer. Because there is no specific volume of air to stiffen the suspension, the free-air power handling is approximately half that of the woofer in a box, in this case 112½ watts RMS.
Band Pass: JBL also recommends prefabricated band-pass enclosures. Band-pass enclosures often provide the most output available from any amplifier and subwoofer combination, but at the expense of sonic accuracy.

Bought 2 of these and paired it with JBL Club A600 amp at 2 ohms in my 2019 f250. The box I used was a fox ported. It is exactly what I wanted! It hits low and balanced my entire Jbl system that I bought from crutchfield. Everything was plug and play!
