If your iPhone is an important part of your life, now it can be an important part of your drive. Thanks to onboard Apple CarPlay®, Jensen's VX5228 digital multimedia receiver puts essential smartphone features in your dash with a straightforward interface that's oh-so-familiar. Quickly navigate your phone's music, maps, and contacts using the receiver's big touchscreen and your voice. While Apple CarPlay functionality requires a wired connection with your phone, built-in Bluetooth® lets you wirelessly stream music from various apps on your smartphone and take hands-free calls.

Game-changing Apple CarPlay®

Apple CarPlay integrates your iPhone into the driving experience in a touchscreen interface, displaying the content you use most with minimal distraction so you can drive more safely. That means easy voice-control access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

Reliable Bluetooth®

Take and make calls while keeping your hands on the wheel, thanks to a wireless Bluetooth connection between the VX5228 and your phone. Bluetooth also gives you wireless streaming for stored music, music apps, podcasts, and audiobooks. Listening to whatever you want, whenever you want, has never been easier.

A spiffy upgrade

Dedicated buttons for source selection, mute, and Siri give the VX5228 a classic feel while still delivering the touchscreen experience. A large 6.2" touchscreen display makes accessing your favorite features a breeze, and with a connected backup camera (not included), backing in and out of tight parking spots gets a whole lot easier. Expand this receiver's capability by using its rear auxiliary input to play audio from just about any source and its rear USB input to charge your phone, access Apple CarPlay, or play music stored on a flash drive.

10-band EQ

A 10-band equalizer lets you tune to your music-loving heart's delight and seven EQ presets are perfect for the listener that loves every genre. You can use the six preamp outputs to connect amplifiers that'll power your speakers and subs for more impact from your system.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

    Washed out display

Paul from Henrico, VA on 10/15/2018

    2003 Hummer H2
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The display is very disappointing. The photo of the product shows nice crisp icons against a black background, but the reality is that the background is grey and the icons are washed out, so its hard to see any detail on the screen. This is especially bad when using maps through CarPlay. I have gone to the settings and made the only adjustment available for the display, but that was only a mild improvement.

Pros: Decent price, has Apple CarPlay, integrated well with my vehicle.

Cons: The display is very washed out and far from the crisp photo shown in the advertisement.

Crutchfield response on 10/15/2018 Paul, we're sorry you're disappointed with your receiver. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worst Purchase Ever. I dont what know what I was thinking but I replaced a fully functional OEM stereo with this piece of gear. The OEM is 15 years old and still works and this Jensen just died. Unbelievable. Who sells stereo equipment that only lasts 3 months?

    Pros:

    Cons:

Crutchfield response on 9/25/2018 : After receiving Patrick's feedback, we looked up his order and found that his receiver is still under warranty. While his order is beyond Crutchfield's 60-day return policy, he can contact Jensen at 866-382-5476 for further information about the 2-year warranty on this receiver.

The display isn't as nice as the one in the Alpine iLX-107, which is to be expected for the price. It works great, save that some of the interface controls are small or difficult to reach quickly (returning to the main menu from within CarPlay, for example). Install was easy with the dash kit for my vehicle.

    Pros: Good sound, CarPlay

Cons: Screen is not the greatest, but gets the job done. Some on screen controls lack elegance.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For my motorhome this is a great sounding radio and very easy to use. We usually listen Apple Carplay running Pandora. I have answered calls while driving also and it works. I like the display, and the touchscreen works better than the radio that came stock with my Chevy. With the touchscreen in the chevy I sometimes have to touch the screen multiple times to get a function to work, with this Jensen the touchscreen just works great! One thing I notice with Carplay on the Chevy radio I see the album cover I don't see the album cover on the Jensen, maybe I am doing something wrong?? Other wise it's great!!

    2014 Toyota Tundra
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, I will agree with every other comment about how this unit it is an exceptional bargain/value! Apple car play is awesome, and while I bought this as a gift for my daughters car, there's a strong possibility I may get one soon for my Tundra. The only challenge I have is the size/location of the power/volume button. It's not that the button is too small, but with the installation kit (2016 Hyundai Accent) the unit itself is recessed quite a bit, so adjusting the volume requires a little dexterity (especially when in a moving car that is bouncing up and down). It does come with a remote that can be used to adjust the volume, but to get 5 stars I would need the unit to be flawless right out of the box. From looking at other customer pictures their units sit flush with the dash, so make sure to ask Crutchfield how deep into the dash this unit would be in your car.

Pros: Easy Install, great features, looks like it came with the car (perfect fit)

Cons: Small button for power/volume that is recessed into the dash and hard to reach.

Great Price, but a couple of quirks

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm a big fan of the CarPlay stereo I have in my car and wanted to add that functionality to an old vehicle. This stereo looked like a good choice, and it may be for some people, but I'm afraid the draw backs may be enough for me to return it. I won't knock it for lacking features it doesn't claim to have. For example, I didn't think I'd miss the song title from the radio, but I do. The radio doesn't claim to have it though, and I bought it knowing it lacked that functionality. I will knock it for a couple of things that appear to be design choices that should be unaffected by cost, and one that may be related to cost but may make the price trade off not worth it. First the radio stops everything when you put the car in reverse. I thought it was annoying that the radio turned off when I put the car in reverse. My other CarPlay stereo only seems to cut off the music it's playing from the phone, not the radio. It became unacceptable when it stopped playing the audio from a phone call because I put the car in reverse. Second, there's a cool little button that will find a bunch of stations in your area and set your presets to them. What's uncool is that it's right next to the band select (AM/FM) button and easy to hit on a touch screen. There's no "are you sure", it just replaces your presets. Finally, the screen glare is brutal. The picture I included shows how badly it glares. The screen is basically unreadable depending on your position relative to the sun.

    Pros: Inexpensive CarPlay!

Cons: Screen reflects the interior so much in sun light that you can't read the display Putting the car in reverse stops all stereo functionality including phone calls Poor User Interface design choices (see full review)

    2008 Mazda 5
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio on a recommendation from Chad at Crutchfield. I did some research and discovered that it got a few low ratings because it didn't have all the bells and whistles. Frankly, I didn't need all the bells and whistles, and for the price, who would expect all the bells and whistles??? My plan was to install this in an '08 Mazda5 that my daughters drive back and forth to school, sports events and errands. What I really wanted was Apple CarPlay. And that I got! After the installation and hookup, I was pleasantly surprised that it works as expected and sounds great. With a few adjustments to the equalizer and fader/balance our new Jensen VX5228 made the original 6 speakers sound better. My daughters can plug in their iPhone, play pandora/spotify, ask siri for directions, make a call, receive a call, send and answer texts... all while driving with their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Safety first. This radio seems to do exactly what I need and at a price that I can live with. I am happy with my purchase.

Pros: It's nice to find a good radio that does what I need - not more and not less.

Cons: Less than a week old. So far no complaints.

    2014 Volkswagen Jetta
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this Jensen head unit with Apple Car play for my wife's 2014 VW Jetta. It had everything she needed plus the Apple car play which is a very nice feature. It was super easy to install and setup. I must say for the price this radio is fantastic! She has been using it for about three weeks now and hasn't had any issues yet. The Apple Car play works very well, along with the radio and Bluetooth options. The screen is also very nice and looks really good in her car. It has a high gloss finish on the screen so it can tend to reflect a lot of light. However the screen is really bright so it is not an issue on sunny days. I only have a few complaints with the head unit. One being the volume knob is on the small side and doesn't have any kind of tactile feel to it. So it is a little slippery to the touch. The other issue I am having is it has an aux function in the menu, but there is no spot on the radio to plug in an aux cord. My other complaint is the supplied usb cable is really short. So if you plan on plugging in anything other than just a lightning cable you may want to look into a longer usb extension. Overall I am very happy with with it though and you can't beat the price for the amount of features the Jensen head unit offers.

Pros: Bright high quality lcd screen. Apple Car play at an affordable price. Bluetooth Back up Camera inputs

Cons: No aux input. Short usb extension cable. Small volume knob.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I like the unit, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Pros: The CarPlay is seamless in working. Love that my phone calls, text messaging, and maps all work seamlessly. Also, I believe that Siri works better in this than on my iphone.

Cons: Product is not intuitive to use and there is not a good user manual to figure out simple things like setting a preset radio station took a lot of work for me to figure out how to set the channels. Also, nothing really works unless you plug in the iphone. Again, no good working user manual to tell me this, I just tried one thing after another until I got it to work. The microphone also doesn't seem to work well. I plan on buying another microphone to see if I can get that function to work

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome product at a great price. The Jensen VX5228 turned my 2008 Yukon into a new truck. No need to buy an expensive new car to get the cool features. Plus you can't beat the Crutchfield customer service. I goofed when I ordered the harness and within 10 minutes of placing my order, customer service was able to correct my mistake. Also, the Crutchfield ready made harness is a steal worth every penny... saved me at least an hour and the headaches with connecting all the wires myself. The only issue with the Jensen is that it required special programming to get the steering wheel controls to work. Again, Crutchfield to the rescue and the tech team walked me through step by step in under 10 minutes.

Pros: Amazing technology that is truly plug and play with Crutchfield's harness

Cons: Special programming required for Jensen but easily done with Crutchfield's help

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Recommended by the Crutchfield rep, wish I would have spent a little more for more features like built-in navigation. This is one is a bit simple. Hooking up the back-up camera was difficult, the instructions provided are terrible and the how-to sheets from Crutchfield do not cover everything. I think they need to reevaluate the documents to include removing panels and running the back-up camera wire through the car, splicing into reverse lights, as well as into the parking brake from the receiver. Also - the usb connector (the only one on the receiver) is a wire that comes out of the back of the unit, so you have to figure out how to get it out to the front of the radio panel or dash. There are other receivers that feature the usb port on the face of the receiver.

    2007 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was provided by Crutchfield to replace an AXXERA ACPM6628BT that would not recognize steering wheel controls in the 2007 Tacoma using a PAC RP4.2-TY11 interface. I was originally concerned as the units look almost identical and even wire up the same. However, it was actually plug and play and everything worked as expected. Nice upgrade from stock with CarPlay and the ability to make phone calls by voice recognition. This was for my son's truck and listening to music from his phone and being able to do hands free calling was the two most important issues. Adding the backup camera was a nice addition.

Pros: Apple CarPlay works well and sounds better than stock even with stock speakers.

Cons: Would have liked a few more color/screen options for the user to select.

    Would Buy Again!

    2006 Nissan Titan
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to upgrade my 2006 Nissan Titan's factory stereo, and find something with more modern conveniences. I wanted a touch screen head unit with Bluetooth, GPS, rear view camera option, Apple Car Play, and did not break my bank. After reading all the great reviews, I decided on the Jensen VX5228 double DIN head unit. With the head unit, I ordered the Metra double DIN dash kit and Crutchfield Ready Harness. At a local big box store, I found a clearance priced license plate mount rear view camera. First off, installation was pretty straight forward. Purchasing the Crutchfield Ready Harness was money very well spent - If you're on the fence buying a Ready Harness, just do it! You'll save a lot of time and headache! As for the Jensen VX5228 head unit - For the price, I was blown away with the sound and features! The graphic equalizer and audio presents really helped get the sound tuned where I wanted it. The touch screen is responsive, and Apple Car Play connects seamlessly. FYI - You must be connected by USB cable in order to access Apple Car Play. This unit is perfect for those wanting an affordable upgrade to their older vehicle's factory stereo system.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good sound quality, and of course the integration with the Apple iPhone via CarTunes is fantastic. Could be better - Apple Maps has improved quite a bit since launch, but it still doesn't do traffic as well as Waze; it would be nice if you could use any nav program. You lose integration with the steering column phone buttons, volume control, and built-in-mic, so that's a slight minus, too. Also, I'm still trying to figure out whether there's an audio problem about audio levels. (It seems I keep having to turn the sound up; is this my memory playing tricks on me, or does the unit always assume I want to start up at nearly inaudible levels?) Installation took longer than expected, about eight hours or so of puzzling through the docs. I busted a couple of the trimpanel tops, because the instructions don't make clear you need to pull straight back and not up or down. There were some missing glue steps in the Crutchfield instructions (the mounting hardware particularly seems to just be assumed to go on). But overall, these are largely nits. The system works better than the factory system it replaced, and has better integration with my iPhone, as well. I'm calling this a win.

    Pros:

    Cons:

    Nice Apple CarPlay intgration.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this unit along with the PAC RPK4-HD1101 Dash and Wiring Kit and a Boyo VTL17LTJ Rear Backup camera into a 2007 Honda Accord 4 door SE. I also ordered the Crutchfield Advanced ReadyHarness. Installation was easy. Apple CarPlay with Siri integration is excellent. Maps, Spotify, Messages and the Phone all work well. Screen quality is excellent. Menus are simple and easy to navigate. The unit displays the Backup camera image automatically whenever the car is shifted into reverse. Sound quality is better than factory even with original speakers. I was looking for a simple unit with CarPlay integration. This unit delivers. Only negative is that the Microphone level is a bit low on phone calls. Would be better if the volume was higher so the person on the other end had an easier time hearing me.

Pros: Easy to set up. Siri and Apple CarPlay work well.

Cons: Microphone level is a bit low on phone calls for others to hear you.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

3rd time is the charm. I originally ordered the Axxera ACPM6628BT because that came with a special deal free backup camera. Problem was the microphone didn't work. So I swapped it for the Jensen which also had a nonfunctioning microphone. This time I just swapped the unit out for another Jensen and finally got it all working. All I was interested in was getting CarPlay. That all works. Not interested in putting more than the minimum investment into an old truck. Like having a dedicated volume knob. Other than the maps looking kind of washed out its all good. My only remaining question is how to stop Prosales coming up as the default destination every time you start the Map App

    Pros: CarPlay CarPlay CarPlay

Cons: Washed out Map view. Contrast isn't great in Maps but this is only a problem in Maps.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this into my 2007 Honda Fit, which is a huge upgrade and makes me feel like I'm in a modern car. The touchscreen works flawlessly and is very responsive. The imagery is simple and clean, and the interface is intuitive. It doesn't have very many customizable settings, but it's amazing for its price point. Bluetooth hooks up quickly and works well, and calls through bluetooth and ApplePlay are clear. Using Siri to read and send texts is also very simple and a great feature to use. Unfortunately, I have found that when using apps such as Pandora and Spotify, they are more likely to work if already started before turning on the car. If you plug in your phone and then the car and then attempt to open an app, it may search and attempt to open it indefinitely until you access your phone and close and reopen the app. The receiver has stopped working on me twice within a month, which has required me to take apart the dash and detach and reattach the wiring harnesses (purchased the pre-wired harness from Crutchfield), despite them already being tight and secure, so I will reach out to customer service about that. Overall, I really enjoy the display and usability with this product, and would recommend it to others looking for a basic upgrade to their older vehicle.

Pros: -Responsive touchscreen -Clean and simple interface -Easy to navigate settings and sources

Cons: -Apple CarPlay doesn't always work for Pandora or Spotify -A bit distracting at night, even with brightness turned down -Volumes across sources (e.g. Music to Siri reading text) must be adjusted separately

Apple CarPlay works as intended but video quality was not the best

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for CarPlay, hands free calling, bluetooth and such to upgrade a factory radio in a 2008 Sienna. I found it easy enough to install, though some vehicle manipulation was required to place the microphone and USB extension. I anticipated that since I did not have those features on my previous radio. Crutchfield suggested the correct mounting gear and quick connects for my vehicle to retain all the previous controls, which makes getting what you need the first time so much easier.

Pros: Crutchfield is always easy to use and they allow me to be confident in purchasing everything I need the first time.

Cons: Could not find a full manual for the VX5228 anywhere. The radio is not even listed on the Jensen site as of this writing. Only a quick start guide was available. I would have liked to see suggested microphone placement from them and more information about the features on the radio.

Works fine for what it is - a CarPlay receiver with a radio. No frills but do you really need any? Pros compared to other CarPlay receivers: no frills with simple interface. Capacitive touch screen, which is so much better than resistive. Dedicated volume knob. Straight forward install with the appropriate harnesses. Loud, with clear sound. No stupid warning that you have to press accept or something every time you use it. Cons: pretty unusable unless you have an iphone. No frills. Included microphone is OK, but not great.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

No frills, Does exactly what a base model touch screen with car play should,. if your looking for more customizable features then this isn't the radio for you. I installed this in a 2001 vehicle so didn't need all the bells and whistles, besides that I really don't spend a lot of time in my truck (its Maui) however the handsfree option is awesome when the phone is plugged in ... not so much with the available Bluetooth, Car Play is super fun and very responsive when connected via lightning cable !!!! All in All good value for the money.

Pros: Fit my 2001 Tacoma perfect, easy to wire up with the Metro adapter, ships free and quickly (even to HI) easy to use. Low price $$

Cons: Lacks a lot of features, interface issues with, music, map and phone volume, low resolution screen.

The radio itself is just what I was looking for. This went in an older vehicle and I was looking for all of these features (Apple Play and Blue Tooth) but wasn't looking to spend a lot of money on this. This radio fits the bill.

Pros: Instructions were straightforward enough and the installation was pretty simple.

Cons: The dash required more modification (cutting) than the instructions indicated. After following the instructions to the letter, the radio was still nearly a quarter inch too tall to fit in the opening. I ended up cutting this out of the top of the dash frame (climate control is below). Once I did this it was OK.

    Great radio, meh install kit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The radio itself was exactly as described. The installation kit was another matter. I can only assume that because the radio is so new that the kit was not tested, but the frame is not large enough to side on from behind like instructed and the side braces did not line up with holes in the radio. I ended up resting the frame on the front of the radio and then flipping the side braces to get it all to work. Also, the steering wheel module was install a bit confusing. It turned out that one wire needed to be connected separately, and for all the docs sent, it was not clear what needed to be done. I ended up going to the steering wheel control unit's website, where it gave step by step based on the car you have. It all worked out, but more tweaking than expected.

Pros: Great price and worked as expected.

Cons: Install kit needs to be reworked.

This unit is an affordable CarPlay stereo. It automatically swaps into carplay mode and swiping through screens is responsive. The EQ is functional, and on par with other lower end receivers I've purchased. The sound is good over stock speakers and is actually an improvement over the factory unit. I use it full time in CarPlay mode, so the lack of wallpaper options doesn't bother me. All in all, it works exactly like a mid $200 unit should.

If you're looking for a cheap, no-frills CarPlay HeadUnit, this guy will do the job. It does exactly what you need it to do, but without a lot of finesse. I found the feature set and system settings lacking. You can't change the wallpaper, or button colors. EQ settings weren't great either. Overall, it'll play music and CarPlay works great. If you're looking for more advanced features however, look elsewhere.

    iPhone Integration w/ CarPlay

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running latest iOS version) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Jensen VX5228. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the  XV5228 in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the Jensen receiver's touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction. Your iPhone with Lightning connector will plug into the VX5228 rear-panel USB using the included 18" USB extension cable and an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not included).

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the XV5228's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply press the "Siri" button and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via the touchscreen or Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Jensen receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Jensen XV5228. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the XV5228's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The XV5228's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Jensen receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying podcasts, music, and radio - including Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Jensen receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Other Functions: Within the CarPlay's touchscreen menu is a circular icon which acts like the back button on your iPhone. In addition there is an "Main Menu" icon which exists CarPlay and takes you back to the Jensen receiver's Home Menu.

    Notes:

    • Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If you need a longer USB extension cable, replace the included 18" USB extension cable with the PAC USB Dash-Mount Cable (541USBDMA6, sold separately) or a longer Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (sold separately - see Accessories Tab). Do not use the included 18" USB extension cable in conjunction with another USB extension cable or extra long Lightning-to-USB cable.

iPod/iPhone USB Direct: For iPods and iPhones without CarPlay, the Jensen VX5228 also supports direct connection of select Apple iPods and iPhones through its rear-panel USB port, the included 18"  USB extension cable, and the cable that came with your Apple device. The unit will automatically switch to iPod/iPhone mode when an iPod or iPhone is plugged into the rear-panel USB port. The unit offers audio playback, control, song/artist/album display (with album art), and charging of your Apple device through its USB port.

    • Music Browsing: You can use the VX5228's touchscreen to browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Composer. You can also access a music track directly by using the head unit's touchscreen keypad. In addition, you can activate Random & Repeat playback modes. Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ will still allow you to navigate stored content and apps from the Apple device's touchscreen; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • Song/Artist/Album Display: The Jensen VX5228 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information from stored music and select music apps. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song/Album title, and Album Art.
    • Battery Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.
Note: Direct iPod/iPod mode cannot be accessed while the CarPlay feature is enabled. The unit will automatically launch CarPlay, and iPod/Phone mode cannot be accessed from the Main Menu.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Jensen VX5228 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone or source device to the Jensen VX5228 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Jensen head unit, but only one can be used at a time. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the device and receiver.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some mobile devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the VX5228.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ external mic): The VX5228 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. You can answer an incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen and carry on a phone conversation hands-free. The included external microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can increase or decrease the volume level of a call, using the head unit's rotary knob on the front panel. You can also transfer calls between the receiver and your Bluetooth enabled phone.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number or assigned contact name will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds. Any audio playback will be muted during a call. You can even reject an incoming call using the VX5228, so the call will revert to your phone's voice mail.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Jensen in-dash head unit's touchscreen controls. Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers directly via the head unit's touchscreen keypad. You can also make a call from your phone's transferred phonebook (up to 2000 contacts) using the Jensen's VX5228 touchscreen. In addition, you can use the receiver's call log (which consists of dialed numbers, received call, and missed calls) to make a call from the VX5228's touchscreen.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Jensen VX5228 allows you to play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or audio player. You can control basic music playback functions (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from the VX5228. Advanced music navigation will still need to be done through your Bluetooth mobile device. This unit will also display song/artist information from a connected Bluetooth audio device. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    USB/Aux Playback

Rear-Panel USB Port: The Jensen VX5228 features a rear-panel USB (type-A) port and comes with an 18" USB extension cable for connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device, such as a USB thumbdrive or portable digital audio player. The USB port enables playback of MP3 music files, MPEG video files, and JPEG photo files downloaded on a USB MSC device that is formatted in FAT32.

    • Control: The VX5228 provides various playback & search functions to find and enjoy your MP3 music files on your USB thumbdrive. Playback functions include Play/Pause and Random/Repeat. Search functions include Folder/File List & Previous/Next Track.
    • Display: The VX5228 will display artist name, song title, album title, along with album art. It also provides track number and elapsed playing time.
    • Charging: USB portable audio devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the digital media receiver's USB port (1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.
Note: This head unit's USB port does not support Android devices, USB Hubs, or USB card-readers.

Aux Input: The Jensen VX5228 is equipped with a rear-panel stereo RCA auxiliary input for connecting an external source device with an analog output.

    Audio & Tuner Section

CTA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the VX5228 are compliant with the CTA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the VX5228 are as follows:

    • CTA2006 Specs: 16 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)

4V/6Ch Pre-Outs: The Jensen VX5228 is equipped with six 4.0-volt pre-outs (Front/Rear/Sub). The front and rear channels are fading, while the subwoofer output is non-fading.

Subwoofer Control: The VX5228 offers Subwoofer Control with an adjustable low-pass crossover filter (Flat/80/120/160Hz) and separate level control (+/-6 for the unit's subwoofer pre-out.

10-Band EQ: You can choose between 7 EQ Presets (Classic, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Beat, Flat, or User). The User setting allows you to manually adjust the Jensen head unit's 10-band EQ (31.5, 62, 125, 250, 500, 1k 2k, 4k, 8k Hz). Each frequency is adjustable from -12dB to + 12dB.

Surround Modes: You can select between 4 different Surround modes (Stadium, Cinema, Opera House, Karst Cave) to create a unique sound effect inside your vehicle.

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at lower volume. This feature can be turned On or Off.

Programmable Turn-on Volume: You can program the VX5228 to turn on with the volume at a preset level, instead of the same level as when the head unit was turned off last. This prevents possible speaker damage or a startling surprise when the receiver first turns on at a high volume level.

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. This feature can be turned On or Off.

AM/FM Tuner: The head unit features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, scan, preset, and direct tuning. The unit features 3 FM bands and 2 AM bands with the capability of storing 6 presets for each band giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 12 AM presets (30 total). You can also automatically store the six strongest stations in your area inside the current selected band. The unit's tuner also is equipped with a Seek mode that when used with the Local function, only allows radio stations with a strong local radio signals to be played.

    Touchscreen, Remote & Camera Features

6.2" Touchscreen Display: The Jensen VX5228 features a fixed 6.2" widescreen touchscreen LCD monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 (RGB) x 480 with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy.

    • Clock & Date: The DVD receiver offers a 12- or 24-hour clock display which is visible from any source or menu screen. The clock & date are both visible on the main menu screen only.
    • Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons and a rotary-dial along the left edge of the screen.

Note: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the head unit's pink wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged.

Remote Control: The Jensen head unit comes with an IR remote and supports many vehicle's steering wheel controls (adapter required).

    • IR Remote The head unit comes supplied with a 17-button IR remote control which provides wireless operation of the Jensen digital media receiver.
    • Optional SWC Interface: The unit features a SWC (steering wheel control) input which lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel control adapter from PAC or Metra (sold separately - see Accessories tab).

Rear View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear view camera (sold separately - see Accessories tab) in order to display the area behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (orange wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.1 seconds.

It was a brand I recognized, reviews were overall positive, and it would fit in the vehicle without modification. [ Amy Van de  Apr 29, 2018 ]
These days you don't need CD/DVD to have a great head unit. Car play makes it wildly flexible while providing the added security of hands-free access to an iPhone. [ Matthew  Apr 23, 2018 ]
Apple Car Play is so user friendly! [ SUSANN  Apr 06, 2018 ]

Yes. Haven't found how to change that. It's not mentioned anywhere [ Angel  Jul 06, 2018 ]
Yes. I can't figure out how to turn that "feature" off... [ KENNETH  Jul 05, 2018 ]
Yes. As far as I can tell he radio switches inputs to show the backup camera. Little goofy (smarter programming and it would just override the display while backing up instead of changing the input). [ Tabratton  Jul 05, 2018 ]
Yes, I would love to figure out how to disable [ Kyle  Jul 05, 2018 ]
    Yes [ shersrin  Jul 05, 2018 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Krissy  Jun 11, 2018 ]  Staff
No. Only with usb. [ KEVIN  May 30, 2018 ]
Yes this will play over Bluetooth you need to pair the phone 1st. I purchased for my son he listens to music from YouTube and off his phone but also loves the Apple play function. [ Michael  May 25, 2018 ]
It does not. It'll only do Apple CarPlay over usb connection. It'll play your music over Bluetooth, and phone calls over Bluetooth, but everything else you need to be connected via lightning usb. [ Juan  May 25, 2018 ]
It does not. It supports bluetooth only for hands free phone operation and not through carplay. Only the native jensen hands free setup. [ STEPHEN B  May 25, 2018 ]

    I don't know about the CHR. [ Steven  May 05, 2018 ]
    Yes it does [ john  Apr 28, 2018 ]
    Yes it does. [ Andrew  Apr 27, 2018 ]
Yes. I just installed the system. The usb cable is attached in the back of the unit. It does come with a short extension. I threaded a longer usb cable, drilled a hole and threaded it thru a grommet to the dash for easy plug-in to my phone. It automatically turns on Apple Car Play when you plug in your phone. It will also connect via bluetooth, but I haven't used that feature. [ SUSANN  Apr 26, 2018 ]
Yes. The USB plug charges and connects everything. You could also use Bluetooth but it'd kill your battery, especially GPS. [ KENNETH  Apr 25, 2018 ]
    Yes [ Steve  Apr 25, 2018 ]
    Yes it does [ Shane  Apr 25, 2018 ]
