Apple CarPlay™ and built-in navigation
Jensen's VX7024 navigation receiver proves that there's always a value worth waiting for. It makes both finding your way and integrating your favorite iPhone® functions a breeze, and you'll probably have enough money left over for a night out with your pals. Need more convincing? How about built-in Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay compatibility, an HDMI input for Android™ phones, and a remote control? Now we're cooking with gas.
Talk to your Jensen
Apple CarPlay is like an extension of your iPhone on the Jensen's touchscreen display. Connect to the receiver via USB and Bluetooth® and you'll have a selection of easy-to-use icons for music (including streaming services like Pandora and Spotify), navigation, phone, and messaging — all controllable by Siri® with compatible phones. You'll drive smarter and safer with fewer distractions, all while enjoying the entertainment options your iPhone provides.
Maps when you need them
Using Apple's Maps function via CarPlay is fine, but there will be times when reception will be tricky or your phone's dead and you'll be glad you had a dedicated navigation receiver. The VX7024 doesn't just offer maps of the entire U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, it also boasts an expanded database of points of interest, providing access to over 10 million potential destinations. You'll see the maps laid out clearly on the receiver's easy-to-follow 6.2" screen, while an improved user interface makes finding your away a piece of cake.
iGO primo navigation software ensures you're getting the most reliable routes, while lane guidance keeps you on the right path for your next maneuver. In some instances, you'll see realistic depictions of complicated intersections or 3D representations of buildings and landmarks to help orient yourself. This stereo's compatible with Naviextras, which allows you to download maps for other countries, including points of interest.
Call and stream hands-free with Bluetooth
Built-in Bluetooth connectivity lets you make and take calls with your compatible phone through the VX7024. Jensen includes an external microphone so your callers won't have to struggle to hear your voice over road noise and wind. This Jensen gives you full access to your phonebook, so you can keep your phone safely stowed away. Built-in A2DP technology allows you to stream music from your smartphone through this receiver, and gives you control over the music on your Android phone or iPhone.
Sonic connections and options
The VX7024 features a front USB input for hooking up your phones or thumb drives, and a rear USB port for charging your devices. It also boasts an HDMI input, allowing screen mirroring for select Android phones and making it easier to access video content from your Android devices for viewing while parked. And of course, it'll play your discs. Jensen includes a wireless remote control, allowing your passengers to pick the playlist. No matter your audio source, the VX7024's 10-band equalizer lets you tweak the settings to suit your listening preferences.
Expand with satellite radio, a rear-view camera, and more
Satellite radio's a wonderful way to keep track of sports, news, talk, and commercial-free music as you travel, and you can access all that wonderful programming by adding a SiriusXM tuner (not included) to this car stereo. Your favorite stations follow you everywhere and, even better, you can view the channel art on the big screen. You can also connect a rear-view camera, so you can see more of what's behind your vehicle when getting in and out of tight spots. If you're looking to add subs and amps, you can take advantage of 6-volt front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs.
Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Performing well, all apps and navigation work as described. I mainly wanted this for the hands free calling, but the airplay is a nice feature. Wiring harness was great. Took awhile to get the single din out of the dash to install this unit. As someone else mentioned I also have an issue that the unit will not keep the correct time and the unit does not keep the volume settings so you get blasted when the system turns on.

Considering what this car that prior to this, it has renewed new life into my car. Everything works as expected - DVD player, screen mirroring, Apple CarPlay, navigation, radio, bluetooth, extra USB port in the back, GPS. Only features I don't use are XM radio and rear view camera. The unit integrated better than I expected. I was able to hide the GPS sensor above the unit between the vents. The HDMI and USB cables from the back are hidden in the glove compartment. And the mic is mount on my steering wheel column.
Pros: Modernizes an old 2005 Honda Civic!
Cons: Navigation - entry is awkward, updating it complicated Demo - is on by default. I couldn't figure out why it kept switching modes at first.

Got this to replace a failed Axxera head unit that was no longer carried by Crutchfield. It actually looks a lot like it came from the same assembly line as the Axxera. Install was super simple. I've only used the navigation a few times but it is lousy. It has zip codes broken down into "zones" and if you don't select the correct zone within the zip code it cannot find the address your looking for. Needlessly complicated and I have no idea where the "zones" come from. Every other GPS system I've used only needs a zip code. The CD and radio part works fine and the weather radio function is kinda nice. I've only tried one DVD - it didn't play - not a deal breaker as I didn't buy it for that but it would be nice if it worked. I have an Iphone and it doesn't reliably auto-connect via bluetooth. The default volume on the Jensen for the phone audio is very low so I always have to turn it up - would be nice if it remembered the previous setting or "mirrored" the volume the phone is set to. My phone ringer is set very loud so I can hear it on a construction site so when it is connected to the Jensen it rings through the truck speakers at full volume - very annoying. Overall it is not as good as the much cheaper (although short lived) Axxera it replaced.
Pros: Boot up is pretty quick, weather radio is kinda handy. Install was stupid simple thanks to Crutchfield's excellent instructions.
Cons: IPhone connectivity is sporadic, GPS is lousy, didn't play the one DVD I tried

Great unit. Does everything I need. Looks great too. Wish it came with a user manual.

Overall for the money, the VX7024 is a good unit. It does most everything I wanted. I've set the bluetooth volume to 6 and that still seems somewhat quiet to me. This is being used in my wife's car which is a convertible, so I'm concerned the bluetooth phone function might not be loud enough with the top down. I did hard mount the microphone as close to center as possible. Once summer comes I will let you know. Haven't used the navi updates yet, but from the rest of the reviews, I'm not expecting it to work. The map seems ok for now and adequate, so I will report back on the update function.
Pros: Good for the money spent.
Cons: low bluetooth telephone volume navi map update support

The unit is very nice and very easy to use. A little underpowered but not bad. Has tons of features, many I will never use. As stated by other reviews, the navigation update is impossible to do. My 30 days is up on that. Crutchfield can't help. Jensen barely recognized it has nav and naviextras has a Bulgarian phone number. Otherwise it's a great stereo.
Pros: Everything except navigation.
Cons: Navigation not updateable.

Manufacture information on this product is not very good. Occasionally the product doesn't boot up properly which causes some functions not to work and requiring a reboot. Telephone menu could be better.
Pros: Lots' of functionality for the money
Cons: Owner's manual is horrible. Sometimes doesn't boot up properly.

Great unit for the price! The included GPS works well, microphone pick up is good for hands free use and the pre-made wiring harness Crutchfield sent was a fantastic time saver!
Pros: Easy Set Up
Cons: Low Volume Output on GPS Voice Commands Would not flip image on reverse camera, had to flip camera

Overall the unit is very good for the price. I was somewhat disappointed by the user interface, due to the fact that it looks dated. All features advertised work well and the customizable lighting is very nice. Lastly, the 160w output power isnt exactly impressive. It does the job decently, however you will likely be turning the volume very high.

Great quality, good sound. Awesome price.
Pros: Sounds good, function are pretty smooth, CarPlay and Mac are easy to use, XM radio is easy to manage.
Cons: Seems a bit buggy but it is only version 1.0.1 so I would imagine with software updates it will only improve

Great radio for the price. Watch out for DEMO mode freaked out the first time it was turned on.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Have to keep micro SD card inserted for Nav to work.

I think this is a good radio for the money and, given the right interface product it does a good job for all functions. I was particularly impressed with the onboard GPS because it has a very well thought out display that even shows the house numbers on either side of the street and provides a clear view of the roads. The overall interface is easy to use and, in the time I used it, stable. I was unable to keep the radio because I was never able to get it to work with the front speakers due to an apparent issue with the interface unit, which appears to be incompatible with my 2011 Prius (non-JBL). This was despite the superb phone technical support provided by Crutchfield. I gave the unit five stars because I was otherwise quite pleased with it. So I recommend it, unless you have a Gen3 Prius.
Pros: Delivers on its promises, providing good sound (as far as I was able to tell), displays the reverse camera immediately, excellent GPS interface, and overall interface is very good. Crutchfield's customer support is superb.
Cons: A 2011 Gen 3 Prius is not compatible with this unit using a Pac interface. I was forced to send the whole thing back and try something else.

I really like this radio! Once you get use to it, really easy to use! Crutchfield did a Great job helping me get everything I needed for my install!
Pros: User Friendly Set Up
Cons: Trying to Figure out the DVD Screen to work without being connected to the Parking Brake.

The unit is great but the customer service for NAVIEXTRAS is the worst i have ever seen!!!!!!! Have been trying to update the maps since i installed the unit and have not been able to do so. Been going back and forth with NAVIEXTRAS via email and they are no help at all!!! I'm just about to rip the unit out and send it back because of this. way too much money to spend to have these problems.

Great place to buy from.

Good replacement for my VX7021 that took a dump. Car play feature requires that iPhone be plugged into the deck. Not what I expected. Great sound!

We largely use the VX7024 for CarPlay in our 2007 Honda CR-V, and in general it's a good upgrade from the stock stereo system. Siri works well and it's nice to hit the Push To Talk button and say 'Directions home' and it opens up the Maps with the our house as our destination. Spotify works well but you can't search using CarPlay, so create playlists ahead of time. Messaging and receiving calls also works as expected. The general system OS leaves quite a bit to be desired - there doesn't seem to be a way to turn the radio off. Once it's on, you have to turn the entire unit off in order to turn it off. So if you switch to the Navigation and don't want the radio on anymore, you have to turn the entire unit off and then on again. The built in navigation is not easy to navigate. Another caveat - the OS does not keep time well. I can't tell if the system clock doesn't work when the unit is off or not, but after setting it properly, a day later it's an hour or two off. There's also no useful dashboard for when the unit is in active - It would be nice if no input was selected, to simply display the time, and not the cluttered dashboard, maybe that will be updated with a system update? (There's also only 3 terrible Wallpapers - seems like if you had a USB drive with some images you could have the background be something more personalized...)
Pros: CarPlay - Messaging, Phone, Spotify, Maps all work as advertised, PTT button launches Siri
Cons: -OS cannot keep time properly -No way to customize wallpaper -No way to turn radio off w/o turning unit off

I like the look and capabilities of this receiver. The radio reception (satellite & terrestrial), sound, GPS navigation, Bluetooth, backup camera, and other media functionality work well. My only nit picks are: 1. The pre-sets for Sirius XM are difficult to get to. It would be nice if there was a way to see a screen of all the preset buttons by default. 2. All audio cuts out when the backup camera goes on. Probably good for safety, but I'd prefer it didn't.

This is an initial review. I will start with the bad. Naviextras.com sucks in supporting the Navi software included with the radio, and Jensen and Crutchfield can't or won't do anything to help with getting the Navi software resolved. I specifically bought this since it was CarPlay, Navi and DVD receiver. Everything I wanted, best price online, but I guess you get what you pay for. I was assured by NaviExtras and Crutchfield and specifically was told I could update to Europe maps no problem and now I am going on vacation with no Europe maps. Will probably return this after return. Good news I highly recommend Crutchfield and there sales people and tech support are great people. Wish they could fix this though. About the product, takes 20-30 seconds to boot on car start. Screen goes pretty light during day if you turn on lights. Touch screen is ok, takes a little pressure with choices. Sound is great, apple car play is good, a little less than expected for the interface. Does not show as many apps as I thought it would. It would be good to know what you see prior to buying. Works wells if only in the US.
Pros: -Great price for the features -has all features you can need with Car Play/Andriod, NAVI and DVD receiver
Cons: -Navi software impossible to update and Naviextras impossible to get help through email and Chat only -Could not use as intended since maps could not be updated

iGO Primo Next Gen & TomTom Navigation: The Jensen VX7024 contains map coverage of the United States (all 50 states), Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands with over 10,000,000 points-of-interests from TomTom; all stored on the pre-installed 8GB microSD card (the microSD card must remain installed at all times). The map database was created using high-resolution aerial and land based data collection. The VX7024 employs iGO Primo Next Gen navigation software for turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to your selected destination. The software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included on-screen navigation map.
Note: While the receiver's map database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release (2017), a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.
Map Updates: iGO offers periodic updates (purchase fees will apply) for data such as roads, new addresses, and other navigational information that will keep the Jensen navigation system up to date and provide the best possible experience. For updates and add-on options, please visit www.naviextras.com (requires Windows XP or newer; not compatible with Mac). A free program called "Toolbox" can be downloaded from this website so you can create a copy of your map as a backup, as well as assist in easily checking for updates and optional features that are available.
Note: You have 30 days from purchase to download the latest available map free of charge.
GPS Receiver & Antenna: The Jensen VX7024 features a built-in GPS receiver and includes an external GPS antenna which determines vehicle speed and heading changes, along with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on the system's digital map. The GPS antenna is designed to be mounted on top of your dash inside the vehicle or on the roof outside of the vehicle.
- Start-Up Time: The Jensen VX7024 will turn on to the last source selected. The unit has start-up time of approximately 15.7 seconds from OFF to the last Source selected. You can then press the front-panel rotary-knob and then tap the on-screen navigation icon to go immediately to the map screen.
- Calculation Time: The navigation receiver took approximately 12.3 seconds to calculate directions from Charlottesville, Virginia to Los Angeles, California. It only took 5.1 seconds to calculate directions from Charlottesville, Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland. These tests were done inside the Crutchfield Lab of the Crutchfield Head Quarters. Results will vary based on length of calculated route and your surrounding area.
On-Screen Map: The unit's on-screen map shows your vehicle's current position (a blue arrow by default), the recommended route (an orange line), the surrounding map area, and your destination as a checkered flag. The on-screen map shows streets, roads, and highways in a way that is similar to how a paper road map show them. A road's width and colors corresponds to their importance, so you can easily tell a freeway from a small street. When navigating a route, the top section of the map screen shows information about your next route maneuver and the next street or the next city/town. When approaching a turn, the map screen will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. If the next turn is at a distance, it will zoom out and lower the view angle to be flat so you can see the road in front of you. The map also displays data; such as the posted speed limit, your current speed, current time, distance to your destination, time left before you reach your destination, and your arrival time.
- 3D/2D Map View: Switch between a 3D or 2D map view. The 3D map view provides three-dimensional terrain (including hills & mountains), elevated roads (like overpasses or bridges), plus three-dimensional landmarks and buildings. Similar to paper road maps, the 2D mode, shows you streets, roads, and elevation by color.
- Color Mode: The navigation map screen uses different color themes (Day/Night) during the day and during the night for both the map and the menu screen. Daytime colors are similar to paper road maps, and the menus are bright. The nigh color themes use dark colors for large objects to keep the average brightness of the screen low. You can also set the navigation unit to switch between daytime and night color modes automatically based on the current time and GPS position.
Note: You can continue to listen to a selected source while viewing the on-screen navigation map.
Lane Information & Signposts: The Jensen VX7024's navigation map offers helpful lane information and signpost guidance, along with junction & tunnel view, plus freeway services.
- Lane Information: When navigation on multilane roads, it is important to take the appropriate lane in order to follow the recommended route. If lane information is available in the map data, the map screen will display the lanes and their directions using small arrows at the bottom of the map. High lighted arrows represent the lanes you need to take.
- Signposts: Where additional information is available, signposts substitute arrows. Signposts are displayed at the top of the map. The color and style of the signposts are similar to the real ones you can see above the road or by the roadside, They show the available destinations and the number of the road the lane leads to.
- Junction View: If you are approaching a freeway exit or a complex intersection and the needed information exists, the map is replaced with a 3D view of the junction. The lanes you need to take are displayed with arrows. Signposts can also be present, if information is available.
- Tunnel View: When entering a tunnel, the map is replaced with a generic tunnel image so that surface roads and buildings will not distract you.
- Freeway Services: When you are driving on a freeway, the map will display the next few service stations and restaurants available at the upcoming exits.
Audible Alerts: The Jensen VX7024 offers various audible alerts and functions to help you get to your destination safely.
- Voice Guidance w/ TTS: In addition to graphic directions, the VX7024 provides voice guidance with turn-by-turn, TTS (text-to-speech) instructions with the announcement of street and road names. You can select from English, French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese audible languages. The volume of the voice prompts can be increased with increases in speed to overcome road noise. Voice guidance can be turned off if you prefer.
- Safety Alert: This function can warn you when you approach road safety cameras, school zones, or railroad crossings (if available). You can also add your own alert points. Beeps or the spoken type of alert will be heard when you are approaching of these points.
- Speed Limit Warning: Some maps may contain information about the speed limits of certain road segments. The VX7024 provides an audible warning if you exceed the recommended speed limit.
Note: While navigating, other sources may be selected and listened to; such as AM/FM Tuner, CD, USB, iPod, & Bluetooth. The unit will mute the audio of the other source during navigation voice-prompts.
Destinations & Location: The Jensen VX7024 provides you with your location status, as well as offers you a variety of ways to search for a destination.
- Where Am I?: This screen contains information about the current position (or approximately the last known position if GPS reception is not available) and a button to search for Car Repair, Health Agencies, Police, and Gas Stations around your area.
- Find Destination: From the "Find" menu, you can select
your destination by entering an address or selecting a place of interest
(10,000,000 POIs), a location on the map or one of your Favorite
destinations. You can also look up your recent destinations from Smart
History, enter a coordinate, or use the location saved in a photo. iGO primo
offers you several ways of choosing your destination:
- Browse Map: Select a point on the map for your destination by touching the screen.
- Address: Enter a full address or a part of an address; for example a street name without a house number or the names of two intersecting streets. Or enter ZIP code only; this way you do not need to select the name of the city and the search for street names might be faster as well.
- POIs: Search over 10 million POIs (points-of interest) by name, near you current location, along route, near your destination, or around a city. Quick Search POI categories make it easier to search for Gas Stations, Accommodations, Restaurants, and Parking.
- Favorites: You can save your favorite addresses (like home & work) and POIs for quicker access the next time you are traveling.
- History: The places that you have set as destinations in the past are automatically stored for easier access. Smart History suggests these previously used locations as destinations based on your navigation habits, using parameters like the current time of day, the day of week, and the current location.
- Search In All: You can enter a destination by simply typing in a "keyword" and the unit will search for Addresses, POIs, Favorites, and History.
- Coordinates: Allows you to search your destination by longitude and latitude values.
Route Calculation: The Jensen VX7024 calculates your route based on your Vehicle Type, Route Method, and Avoidances.
- Vehicle Type: You select what type of vehicle you are driving, so the navigation unit can determine the best route based on your vehicle type (Car, Emergency, Bus, or Taxi).
- Route Method: You can choose which route method
(Fastest, Shortest, Green, Economical, or Easy) the navigation unit should
use when calculating your route.
- Fastest: gives a quick route, if you can travel at or near the speed limit on all roads. Usually the best section for fast and normal cars
- Shortest: gives a route that has the smallest total distance of all possible routes. It can be practical for slow vehicles
- Green: gives a quick, but full efficient route based on the fuel consumption data you provide
- Easy: results in a route with fewer turns and no difficult maneuvers
- Avoidances: You can tell the navigation unit to avoid certain types of roads along your calculated route, such as - Highways, Tolls, Carpool/HOV, Unpaved Roads, and/or Ferries.
Plan A Trip: Plan a trip with the VX7024 using Route Planner and preview your trip on the Itinerary page, plus get a simulated look at your pre-calculated route.
- Route Planner: The Route Planner feature lets you built your route using the list of destinations you have chosen. You can modify the list as you like (adding or removing a destination (waypoint), changing a final destination, or setting a new starting position.
- Itinerary Page: The Itinerary page displays turn-by-turn instructions for your entire route and the distance between turns.
- Route Simulation: You can preview all the route information and simulate travel along a projected route.
Modify Your Route: Modify your route before you get started or while in route to your destination.
- Route Alternatives: You can select "Route Alternative" to see the turn-list and map screen of four routes (Fastest/Shortest/Economical/Easy) with the selected route planning parameters, giving you the option to select which route to take.
- Detour: You can also choose to Detour around the road ahead, avoid a specific road, or around a section of the route.
- Automatic Route Recalculation: The unit will automatically recalculate your route if you stray from the navigation unit's previously calculated route.
Trip Monitor & Logs: The Trip Monitor contains useful information about your trip. Trip Logs can be saved manually when you reach your destination or automatically along your route. Trip log data includes; Start/End Time, Avg./Max. Speed, Total/Driving/Stopped Time, Total Distance, and Min./Max. Altitude.
Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running latest iOS version) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Jensen VX7024. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the VX7024 in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the Jensen receiver's touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction. Your iPhone with Lightning connector will plug into the VX7024 front-panel USB port and an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not included).
- Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze (coming soon), you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have there own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
- Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the VX7024's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply press the "Siri" button and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via the touchscreen or Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
- Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Jensen receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel.
